So quick post since I just woke up- but this is a psa to everyone really (but especially to people outside Wales) to be careful about how you express support for Welsh language preservation. I've censored the name of the reblogger here (this is a screenshot of a reblog of my post about the petition to use only Ynys Môn for the island instead of Anglesey) and I will say, while I (and many others in Wales) appreciate the support from overseas, its important not to accidentally use white nationalist slogans in doing so!
No animosity directed at the commenter, I feel like it was an innocent mistake. But "Keep Wales Welsh" is a white nationalist slogan and we don't do that here.
I can see where the mistake has happened. In English there are no separate words for Welsh (language) and Welsh (person) while there is in Welsh- 'Cymreig' means Welsh in the sense of being of Wales (e.g. 'llaeth Cymreig' is Welsh milk), while 'Cymraeg' means Welsh in the sense of the Welsh language (e.g. 'Ydych chi'n siarad Cymraeg?' means do you speak Welsh?). The commenter probably intended to mean 'Keep Wales Welsh' in the sense of 'Keep Wales Welsh language'. However, white nationalists use that slogan to mean 'Keep Wales ethnically* Welsh'. Which is a big nono around here and on this blog. We don't do that here.
[* There is no such thing as ethnically Welsh either, but it's a line trotted out by white nationalists in Wales to justify their ethnonationalism.]
There are many non-white Welsh people and also many non-white Welsh speakers. Being Welsh and the ability to speak Welsh are not in any way connected to race or ethnicity. Welsh nationalism ≠ white nationalism - there's no justification for using racist, white nationalist arguments to secure Welsh independence. An independent Wales should be a diverse independent Wales - an independent Wales inclusive of all races, nationalities, disabilities, sexualities and genders.
Annibyniaeth Wrthffasgiaid.

I don't want to get too political on this blog but it is about my life and I wanted to share how the current state of things in Springfield, Ohio have impacted me.
I attend one of the two universities based in Springfield (Which I won't name for privacy and personal safety reasons) and we are currently on remote learning thanks to the shooting and bomb threats leveled against us and other schools in the city. These threats were made out of the xenophobic hatred for the Haitians in our community. Thanks to lies spread by Republican politicians schools are going under lockdowns, being evacuated or going remote to protect students, mostly children. These include elementary schools, one of which was evacuated today.
Even though I don't live on campus my parents made me come home (they don't live in Springfield) for my own safety. I'm lucky to have the privilege of that option but many people in Springfield and many of my fellow university students don't have the option to flee. Let me be clear--The politicians promoting racist and false rumors that Haitian immigrants are eating people's pets don't care about anyone in Springfield. They are doing it for their own political gain and don't care about the consequences these lies have on the average person. They have given motivation to, let's be honest, domestic terrorists who are willing to scare and hurt Haitians and everyone else caught in the crossfire just to fulfill their xenophobic and racist desire to 'protect' an idealized white America. But people won't call them terrorists because they're white Americans.
As someone who spends about eight months out of the year living in Springfield I have never heard of a Haitian stealing and eating people's pets. They are not a threat to the security of our community. That would be the KKK, who are currently handing out fliers in town by the way, and the white nationalists threatening people.

Palestinians and allies have been trying to warn people about the Stop Zionist Hate Twitter account. They followed white nationalists and although presented themselves as Muslim, Muslims were suspicious and skeptical. Today, they went mask off and tweeted "who killed Jesus?" at the Israel official account. The QTs immediately jumped on them faster than Zionists did. It was nearly all Muslims mass reporting them and spreading the word they were an antisemite, and arguing down other antisemites who said that the only thing that mattered was that they were against genocide.
Tumblr media
Palestinians and Muslims have been terrorized by the charge of antisemitism all this time. It's been used to dehumanize and punish them. Now that more and more people are being turned off by Israel, they could take the opportunity to fuel the hate or simply do nothing and let the western Jewish community deal with the fallout of Israel's actions. Never mind that this wouldn't even be such an issue if people just followed them instead of always gravitating to loud-mouthed white and western grifters and Tankies. But they didn't.
It's impossible to control such a massive movement, but at every point, all I've personally seen is Palestinians and the Muslim allies they interact with trying to keep anyone trying to exploit it to harm Jews out. I'm so proud of them, and of us. We don't need to be accused or punished to care about people. We don't need to center an issue to care about it as well. And we don't need the support of predators and exploiters. Palestinians deserve better and they know it. If you want to protect Jews then start centering and listening to them. The oppressed have only ever wanted liberation, not revenge.

"Neither of those phrases [Free Palestine or From the River to the Sea] are anti-Jewish. Any sentiment against Jewish people is coming from the fascists, White nationalists, and other bigoted reactionaries out there, not the those in favor of Palestine. The Zionists are the ones with blood of dead Palestinians on their hands. They are the ones committing genocide. They are the ones maintaining the apartheid state. If anything, social media has bent over backwards for Zionists, not the other way around!”- Ashi

A former FBI counterterrorism agent, Dave Gomez, told The Washington Post he thought that a fear of being seen as targeting President Donald Trump's base was muting the agency's response to violence by white nationalists."There's some reluctance among agents to bring forth an investigation that targets what the president perceives as his base," Gomez told the publication. The comments followed an attack on Saturday by a gunman at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, that the FBI is treating as a domestic terrorism incident.Investigators have said the gunman left a racist manifesto on the messaging board 8chan ahead of the attack.
Tumblr media
FBI agents are hesitant to investigate white nationalist extremists because they don't want to be seen as pursuing investigations against President Donald Trump's base, a former FBI counterterrorism agent told The Washington Post.
The former agent, Dave Gomez, said he believes that FBI Director Christopher Wray "is an honorable man, but I think in many ways the FBI is hamstrung in trying to investigate the white supremacist movement like the old FBI would."
"There's some reluctance among agents to bring forth an investigation that targets what the president perceives as his base," Gomez said. "It's a no-win situation for the FBI agent or supervisor."
He said that Trump's repeated criticism of the FBI and its investigation into Russian election interference and collusion were likely factors as well.
The FBI declined to comment to Business Insider on Gomez's claims. An FBI representative told The Post that the comments were not accurate and that the agency distributes resources according to its assessment of the threat posed by domestic terrorism.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the FBI says about 40% of the domestic terrorism cases it is investigating involve racism.
Gomez's comments followed Saturday's shooting in a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, that killed 20 people. Investigators have told media outlets that shortly before the shooting, the gunman posted a racist and anti-immigrant screed on the messaging board 8chan, known as a hub for white nationalists. Authorities have identified Patrick Crusius as the suspect in the shooting.
That shooting was followed hours later by another mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, that investigators have not tied to racist ideology. Authorities have not publicly identified a motive in that shooting.
Saturday's shooting was the latest in a long series of deadly attacks by white nationalist extremists in the US and abroad. In March, a gunman killed 51 people in mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and livestreamed the attack on social media.
At a Senate hearing in July, Wray said an increasing number of domestic terrorism incidents were motivated by white supremacist and white nationalist ideologies.
Law-enforcement responses to violence by white nationalists have long been the focus of fierce bipartisan disputes. Republicans in 2009 reacted furiously to a Department of Homeland Security report that described right-wing extremist violence as a rising threat. They accused the agency of a bid to smear conservatives.
Trump's political opponents have accused him of deliberately stoking racist divisions in the US and actively courting the support of white nationalists during his 2016 presidential campaign.
In a March op-ed article for Time, the director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University linked a rise in white nationalism to "a coarsening of mainstream politics, where debates on national security and immigration have become rabbit holes for the exploitation of fear and bigotry."
The president last week claimed he is "the least racist person anywhere in the world" and on Sunday linked the El Paso attack to a "mental-illness problem." In the wake of the New Zealand attack, he said he didn't see white nationalism as a growing global threat.
Under US law, while it is a crime to provide support for foreign terror groups like ISIS, there is no equivalent for domestic terrorism organizations, The Post said.
The FBI is investigating the El Paso attack as a domestic terrorism incident and possible hate crime. In a statement on Sunday, it warned that Saturday's attack could inspire copycats.

Maria Castle (and Jason Aaron) officially declare: "The Punisher No More"... while gloriously pissing off right-wing chuds in the process!
Tumblr media
I just read the final issue of Jason Aaron's 12-issue Punisher maxiseries, and here it is at long last! The scene in which Frank Castle's entire career of mass-murder and fascistic vigilantism is openly denounced by his now ex-wife, Maria!
Tumblr media
This scene alone is what officially piqued my interest in wanting to read this book! Although Aaron is one of my personal Top 5 favorite comic book writers, I was initially uninterested in reading his recent Punisher run despite hearing critical praise for it due to both my personal overall lack of interest in Frank's solo-titles (my past exposure to him has mostly been through uneasy team-ups and/or rivalries with other characters like Spider-Man & Daredevil...), as well as the real-life controversy surrounding the Punisher's signature skull logo being co-opted by police officers and white nationalists (even though Aaron's run changed the logo in-response to said-controversy by having him join forces with The Hand ninja-cult). But when I heard about this scene on the day the final issue of the maxiseries dropped, it alone convinced me to want to actually read this series for myself, as it demonstrated Aaron's commitment to actively deconstructing the Punisher as a character while refuting his toxic & harmful ideology!
After being interrogated by the likes of Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Black Widow, and Moon Knight, Frank receives judgment from one final figure in the form of his former wife, Maria. Now able to fully announce her intentions to divorce her husband without a mob shoot-out to tragically interrupt her this time, Maria openly condemns all of the murders that Frank committed in both her and their dead children's names whilst revealing that she arranged for all of Frank's numerous weapons safe-houses to be confiscated. Half of the monetary real-estate from which would go to herself so that she could start a fresh new life, while the other half would be donated to charities in their children's names. As Maria herself states, "That's how you honor your dead family, Frank. Not by using them as an excuse for slaughter," before saying goodbye to her ex-husband for good as he awaits judgment for his crimes from Earth's Mightiest Heroes...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holy FREAKING crap! This is the literal embodiment of giving the "reason you suck" speech if ever I've seen one! Not only does Maria freely express all of her personal justified grievances with her sadistic ex-husband, but she completely refutes his murderous & fascistic "might-makes-right" beliefs, and punishes him for his crimes by financially defanging him whilst simultaneously donating half of said-money & resources to worthwhile causes that ACTUALLY contribute to helping individuals hurt by corrupt societal systems, rather than further perpetuating said-corruption like Frank's murders have done.
And what makes Maria's berating of Frank Castle even more satisfying to read is that it ultimately managed to royally piss-off the far-right fascist scumbags who glorify & appropriate the Punisher's iconography in real-life. Seriously, when Punisher (2022) #12 was first released I witnessed several Comicsgater chuds whining and complaining about Marvel "ruining the Punisher's character forever" and Jason Aaron "emasculating Frank Castle." Additionally, said-CGers argued that Maria Castle was "unlikable" for robbing Frank of all his weapons and safehouses (except... I can honestly sympathize with Maria here since if I was also resurrected from the dead and found out that one of my relatives committed multiple mass-murders "in honor of my legacy," then I'd be pretty pissed off about it as well...).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And all I have to say in response to these bigoted manbabies' complaints about Aaron "ruining Punisher" is this:
GOOD!
If Aaron's Punisher maxiseries, and specifically the scene of Maria Castle condemning Frank, managed to anger the very same fascist rightwingers who blindly idolize the Punisher (despite his original creator Gerry Conway intending the character to be a cautionary figure about the failures of the justice system), then that fact alone makes this deconstruction of both the character & concept of Frank Castle a truly worthwhile endeavor! While the series ends with Frank using the last of the demonic magical powers granted to him by The Beast to escape the Avengers' captivity, along with the Archpriestess of the Hand trying to indoctrinate another troubled American youth similar into becoming her cult’s next "Fist of the Beast" (reflecting the sad reality of how fascist systems can continue to exist in society even when notable individuals are defeated), it appears that Marvel is officially retiring Frank Castle for good. Even though just last month Marvel released a new Punisher miniseries written by David Pepose which stars an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Joe Garrison adopting the mantle, the epilogue of Aaron's maxiseries reveals that Frank had permanently banished himself to the Weirdworld alternate dimension, intentionally avoids fighting in local conflicts but instead provides shelter for war orphans (indicating that he might have actually taken his Maria's words to heart).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my opinion, this is a far more satisfying conclusion than the alternative of having Frank killed off at the end of the series. This means that he actually has to put in ACTUAL effort to find some form of atonement or rehabilitation, rather than simply evading punishment for his crimes through death.
Overall, Jason Aaron's 12-issue Punisher maxiseries was a phenomenally inventive and thought-provoking character analysis and deconstruction of the truly violent & unstable individual that Frank Castle is (even long before he officially adopted the skull logo), whilst simultaneously analyzing and critiquing the circumstances that contributed to Frank's fascistic and murderous beliefs, as well as their negative impacts on his interpersonal relationships with individuals such as his wife Maria Castle. Although sadly, the way Aaron brilliantly ended Frank Castle's career as the Punisher in Issue #12 was sadly overshadowed by the controversy generated by a certain OTHER comic that Marvel released the exact same week... namely the publicity-stunt shock-death of Ms. Marvel (aka, Kamala Khan… aka, my all-time favorite superhero) in Zeb Wells' Amazing Spider-Man (2019) #26...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sigh... at least Kamala was fortunately later resurrected over in the X-Men titles and was given the awesome Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant miniseries written by her MCU actress, Iman Vellani (which I've read and absolutely loved)!
But aside from that, the Punisher by Jason Aaron is easily one of the best modern comics that I read in 2023, with Issue #12 being the absolute thesis statement of what this series is truly about! I highly recommend it to anyone who desires a complete refutation & condemnation of the murderous scumbag that Frank Castle is and always has been.
From Punisher (2022) #12 by Jason Aaron, Jesús Saiz & Paul Azaceta.
