Plus how she was during the first few years that we see of Anthony's reign as Lord Bridgerton. From him trying to ask her what should would want in the event she would need to be cut would they save her or the baby and she just went on a long rant about how his father already knew all of this and how much she misses his father and how he wasn't his father while he and the doctor stood there and watched her before Anthony just told the doctor to ask her opinion for anything and left. Her habit of going on rants about how he isn't his father and how much she misses his father and how much not like his father he is, he literally watched his father die, got all of the adult tasks dumped on him, became the parent to all of his siblings, had to be in charge of all of their holdings and couldn't deal with his grief due to just not having enough time in the day while having to help everyone else deal with theirs or them taking their grief out on him. It's insane.

no but i do actually think its a bit maddening how the Bridgerton matriarch falls into this deep depression and basically thrusts the entire workings of the family business and raising his siblings onto Anthony at the end of 19, apparently only seems to resurface to remind him of his “family duty to wed” and then proceeds to be obnoxiously disproving when he finally does decide to marry

like i know the intention is that Violet Bridgeton is supposed to be a caring and loving mother but she’s honestly a bit of a bitch who gives her children long lasting trauma. She’s literally like this with all of her kids, not just Anthony and its a bit exhausting I’m not gonna lie.

Saying Penelope saved the Bridgertons is sort of like saying you're saving someone if you hit them with a car, but call an ambulance. She caused so many of their problems. When it comes to Marina, in the time it took for her to get out an edition of Lady Whistledown, she could've walked across the street to the Bridgertons' house and told Eloise, Violet, or Anthony. If she didn't want to be known as the messenger she could've sent them a letter, but she didn't want Marina to "have" Colin so she chose to make it as public as possible.

She didn't have to make fun of Daphne for her lack of suitors and it was Violet, not Penelope who was smart enough to dig up dirt on Lord Rutledge with the help of her maids. Additionally, her taunting the queen as Lady Whistledown is what had Queen Charlotte angry enough to want to threaten Eloise when she thought it was her. There's no threat in a world where Penelope wasn't being the Regency version of the Daily Mail.

Penelope bashed Colin in Lady Whistledown instead of just saying, "hey, you really hurt my feelings," and then she comforted him when he was upset about it. How kind of her to offer her sympathy about the distress she causes.

And in a world where Penelope didn't love being Gossip Girl more than anything, she would've told Eloise the truth and worked with her to find a solution.

cressida's storyline was genuinely shameful tbhhh it's like they started rewriting it in the first half of the season then completely forgot about the changes they'd made to make it fit the book plot and it just ends up making everyone else look bad😐 every character in the second half got a "penelope did nothing wrong" lobotomy so we ended up with eloise completely ignoring cressida being sold off to an horrible man (when she made every effort to support her in the first half of the season) and for some reason resenting her for pretending to be lady whistledown? Then they somehow frame her ignoring colin's offensively bad pleas as it being her turning away from redemption when all she's trying to do is escape being trapped in the country with her likely abusive aunt... and it ends with her meeting her horrible fate and it still being framed as tragic only to immediately juxtapose it with the bridgerton family winning the idgaf war while gleefully seeing off francesca and her future dead husband. The bridgertons were the villains of the season frfr

Yep. I mean, something is not right when the man gets to blame his trauma for every shitty thing he does, but a woman doesn't. Violet also lost Edmund, she lost her husband and the father of her 8 children. She was 8 months pregnant. In the show, she almost died giving birth to Hyacinth and the doctor was ready to cut her open if Anthony wished to. And people still expected her to know everything about grief and how to support Anthony. She was going through her own mental health crisis!

Women don't get to do any wrong, even under extreme circumstances. But men? He humiliated an entire family who was already at a disadvantage, he almost broke them apart, and he didn't even apologize to Kate!

I unfortunately do not care for Penelope. A lot of the characters are either classist or sexist or even hypocrites (Eloise being anti institution but benefiting from it) however Penelope is the biggest hypocrite of them all because she’s not sharing the gossip in an effort to expose the ton and make them better people, she’s doing it because no one pays attention to her so she would rather they feel as small as she does 

I cannot like her as a protagonist, and the fact that the show keeps trying to force her to be one is not working. I am literally least excited to see her and Colins “love story“ during season three… Trust I will be skipping a lot of it, and just stopping for Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton, and Anthony and Kate. 

I know in the Bridgerton fandom it’s like speaking into the void but like.

If Anthony and Ben and Simon don’t have STDs or bastards, if the Bridgerton coffers are super deep and old money with a hand wave about good investments and a single song montage of Anthony signing papers, if the Featheringtons can bounce back from housing an unmarried pregnant woman and scheming to marry her to a Bridgerton, if Marina can be considered a respectable married woman despite the nature of her scandal, if Daphne wasn’t forced to marry Berbrooke despite him and Anthony coming to an agreement and Berbrooke loudly announcing said agreement in public, if Daphne was let out of her social obligation with the Prince who was loudly and proudly courting her, if Simon was able to forgive literally being assaulted, if Kate was able to survive a regency era comatose concussion after being tossed from a horse directly onto a rock, if Edwina is able to show her face again after the public humiliation and still be desirable, if Kate and Anthony could get their happily ever after after because the Queen smiled while they danced, if Eloise can still be considered a lady and her family gets invited to balls despite being a political radical, if Eloise managed to go to the lower income side of town wearing jewel encrusted tiaras without ever being noticed or ruined from meeting with a man unchaperoned…

why on earth does everyone demand realism and realistic punishment and societal reaction for Penelope?? None of our other characters ever have been truly impacted by realism. So why now? Why this season?

With her travels around the world, Flora finally travels to Mayfair London, in the hopes to inquire inspiration for yet another successful story, one in London, away from France and Italy with the aid of her pen pow. Eloise Bridgerton: A new and quite fond reader of Miss Flora Deluca's novels, poems and volumes. She always wrote but Flora only ever read her letters, too busy to answer all her fan mail, especially Miss Eloise, who writes so often, she simply could not read them all.

But tonight is different, it's stale, cold and without excitement. Once left in peace, she began to sift through each written text, enjoying the character of the writer. She found amusement in every letter, all with a different perspective on love, marriage and romance. To simply put it, Miss Eloise is anti-love, which is ironic given, the reminder that Flora's genre is predominantly romantic.

But Eloise doesn't seem to mind, enjoying star-cross lovers, unrequited love, right person wrong time and general adventure. Adventures throughout France and Italy, Flora's mother lands. By your letters, you seem to be a local, someone to show me around and help me to settle in.

Eloise cracks her gaze from her book, eyeing the parchment, snatching and ripping it open. "From Italy? From whom?" Hyacinth inquires, trying to see the letter.

Eloise scowls. "From no one, mind your own. It is not your business." Said Eloise, shooing her little sister away with Benedict slumping himself beside her, also very excited.

"Is it from Lady da Silva?" He questions in a hushed voice, wetting his lips.

The two share a love for the author and artist, who illustrates her own books and covers. Both, sending letters frequently, but only one receiving a reply.

With a gasp, Eloise clarifies their suspicions, her grin far too wide for a typical letter. "She likes my mind, she thinks it's rather fascinating," She gloats with a smirk. "And she's moving to London!" She screams, jumping for joy with Benedict, like fools, sharing an embrace.

"I am to write to her right away!" She runs up the main stairway, leaving her family in silent confusion.

Dear Lady da Silva,

I am greatly honored to receive word from you and to be given the opportunity to aid you in your next book. I have plenty of ideas, adventures, character personality and genres. How about a heroine? A woman hero, who embarks on a quest, an adventure.

I cannot wait to finally meet you, to brainstorm with you, to work with you! Your novels are legendary here, in the Ton, enjoyed by all— yes, even by men. Genevieve Delacroix, the modiste introduced me to your books— surprisingly we mingle a lot, discussing your books over tea and fittings. She too, is quite the literature, she adores your poems, always quoting those of affection, frequently, must I add.

She would love to meet you. Oh, and my brother, Benedict, who found himself looped into our little book club— if you can call it that— and writes to you as well, but it seems you have only replied to my letters, which I thank you greatly, truly. The two became pen pows, rather quickly, their letters becoming more intimate and personal, Flora was beginning to think she were already with her.

Sooner than she thought, she were in Mayfair London, unpacking her chambers, decorating and finding new furniture for her study. Once sat for the night, she wrote to Eloise, informing her of her arrival and her need for new garments. Marking a time to meet and unknowingly a new beginning.
