Ezra, a guy who exiled himself to ANOTHER GALAXY with no hope of return to take out a critical enemy, and has been isolated for years, potentially without any human contact... Sees his friend who just found him and eagerly asks : How did you find me? How did you get here??
Sabine, supposedly a good person, who got here by betraying her master's will and last orders and siding with the villains without any backup plan or even a wish to betray or manipulate them : (deep sigh) Let's not talk about that. Not right now.
Ezra, very much entitled to having his most basic concerns answered : Sabine...
Sabine, a manipulative bitch now too, apparently, cutting him off : Hey! I just wanna be happy that I found you. After all this time, can I have that?
Ezra, cucked by the script writers because they can't have the dialogue conflict happen until next episode : Of course.
And you, Ezra, you get nothing. You just get to catter to the selfish desire of the person who didn't come here with a rescue plan for you.

I am surprised you didn't expect the flattening, considering what the show is doing to every character.
I'd point to Sabine in particular, but Ahsoka and Hera also suffer from it. It's not even a regression, I fear, but a sort of character impermanence.
Sabine is smart, until she's not and acts like a doofus. Ahsoka is characterised like she hasn't moved or changed since TCW, but the moment she has her scene with Anakin, she turns into Gandalf the White (literally, she's dressed all in white, it's not subtle), and is radiant, despite none of her worries and issues being addressed.
Even Hera does nothing but try to justify and enable the worst of Sabine's character (because the tension they manufactured between Ahsoka and Sabine would be too much otherwise and Ahsoka has literally no reason to stick around after the plan is stolen), and when Jacen, son of a Jedi, displays incredible powers, she doesn't discuss it or consider training. Hera is a cardboard cutout here to justify people being in the same room.
Sabine is the worst though, with her childish displays and bratty behaviour that are just foreign to the character.
It feels like a sitcom arc. The characters are directionless, reduced to vague archetypes and pulled one way or another as the plot demands it.
The plot, I suspect, is going to demand inflexible cult leader Thrawn who made deals with the local witches and wants everything going according to keikaku and get upset when it doesn't.
Thrawn isn't Filoni's OC, so I highly doubt he'll receive much love (that being said, there's been so much character assassination in recent shows that IDK what qualifies anymore).
I am concerned about Thrawn's characterization.
A key part of why Thrawn is somewhat likeable is how he always encourages independent thinking and dislikes blind obedience. Everything Thrawn does is a calculated choice and he encourages that thoughtfulness in all his subordinates.
He would not want an army chanting his name.
His motivations don't add up. Thrawn always said his loyalty was first to his people and the Empire second. He always said that using the Empire was a means to an end.
If the Empire collapsed, he would not build it up again. He would abandon it. He would start over somewhere else and find a different resource. After all, Thawn steals art. He does not make it.
Thrawn is not a good guy. He outright says he ignores his conscience to accomplish his goals and abandoned the same people he claimed to protect for 20 years. But he was a truly complex villain in Rebels and an anti-hero in the books.
Ahsoka, so far, has flattened one of the most compelling Star Wars characters and I am greatly disappointed.

We Missed THIS in Ahsoka Part 6! Filoni Revealed It a Year Ago!
My God!!!
This is the fucking rant against Star Wars Meg and Anti Wolfwren shippers
(You people supported Reylo, Maulsoka but can't stand Wolfwren. Such hypocrisy !!)
Star Wars Meg is telling otherwise that Shin and Ezra will be proxy Mara Jade and Luke for Filoniverse. They can be romantically involved.
I am shooketh to the core by seeing this video. What weed is she smoking?
If Filoni really goes this way , then why so many scenes between Shin and Sabine in the show?
Then he would have just omitted the staring scenes and the hand holding scene . Dave should have just done the almost killing part and shoot the fighting scenes without intense stare as he did before in his animated shows .
If Filoni goes that way that will be a big middle finger to all of Wolfwren shippers as well as Sabezra shippers too ( as they are pissed of us in regarding Wolfwren).
I know Disney won't allow Wolfwren to happen on screen and I don't have hope on them as they are homophobic.
P.S : Some of you people told me to have hope as we saw in Andor , Velcinta is canon and one WLW couple is canon in Lucasfilm's Willow. Thank you for giving me hope.
Uff... I have typed a lot 🤣🤣
That's my passion for Wolfwren

Hype levels for new Star Wars projects
So everyone who follows the Galaxy Far Far Away is probably aware that certain announcements were made at the Star Wars Celebration; we got some new project announcements, new info about those already announced, and since I need to vent my thoughts a little, here are some of my rambles:
Rey's Jedi Order Even though I do acknowledge their flaws, I'm a very sequel trilogy-positive guy. And this is exactly what I wanted. It gives us another chance to see things the new trilogy didn't deliver - I'm especially hoping to see Finn as a Jedi. The choice of director is already sparking outrage among anti-sjw fanboys, which is a good sign. Hype level: 9
Ahsoka I just don't fucking know. It was originally supposed to be a sequel to Rebels, but every new info makes it look more like a convoluted clusterfuck of half a dozen stories loosely connected by Ahsoka's character. Are those like... Dark Jedi or wtf? Are they trying to somewhat revive old Legends? I'd love to be wrong but every new info makes me more worried. At least Sabine looks great. Hype level: 5
The First Jedi Now this is interesting. We're finally leaving the Skywalker timeline into a very distant past. This has a potential to be VERY good, seeing the day one of the Jedi order. I just hope they won't cling to old Legends much and bring something new to the table. Hype level: 7
Filoni's Mandoverse movie The heroes of the Filoniverse join forces to defeat the Imperial remnant once for all. IMO, Filoni grew too complacent and dependant on the fact his fanboys will worship him and kiss his ass no matter how mediocre his content is. So I have no reason to think it'll be anything different than Infinity War-style playground for Filoni's pet characters. Hype level: 3
Acolyte Another thing I'm very much looking forward to. The cast looks awesome, and so do the story snippets we got so far. And it's the High Republic era! Plus points for another Wookiee Jedi joining Gungi and Burryaga. Also, I'm a devout Light-sider, but I'll gladly watch a thing from the bad guys' POV. Hype level: 8
Skeleton Crew Frankly, I have no idea what to expect here. Some sources claim it's for younger audience, but so were Rebels and look how awesome they were. I'll just form no opinions until more info comes to hand. Hype level: 4
Andor season 2 NOW WE'RE TALKING. Give me Andor or give me death. All our beloveds are there. Space incel & his fasho GF, space lesbians, Mon Mothma, Cassian and also the biggest Queen of them all which is Bix Caleen. If it's even half as good as S1, we're in for a RIDE. I'd gladly postpone any of the above to have Andor sooner. One way out. Fuck the Empire. Hype level: 10
Feel free to discuss or add your own ranking!

Sabine Wren, the "smart" member of the crew, after openly betraying her "master" and siding with the vilains for personal gains, is looking for Ezra.
Cute alien, points excitedly at the design on her pauldron
Sabine : Aw, you like it? (critical perception check failure #1)
Cute alien, now bending backward to make their point, shows off necklace pendant that's a wood carving of the same design
Sabine (critical failure #2) : WOW, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!

You know what really weirds me out??? A lot of fans who hate the Filoniverse seem absolutely entranced by this show, which they view as a fix-it fic of sorts for the sequel trilogy, and along with Andor see it as a return to Star Wars having 'real' storytelling.... but this show has many of, if not the same, writing issues as a lot of the Filoniverse stuff like Mando or Boba Fett or Ahsoka.
They just let it all slide on this one, and I seriously think it's because they don't want to critique a queer-led project and lose their ally credentials.
And worse, they are CHEERING ON Leslye's blatant misunderstanding of the mythology, because it just caters to their preexisting anti-Jedi opinions.
This just feeds into something that I quickly began to notice with the die-hard Last Jedi fans, that they took Luke's negative statements on the Jedi entirely at face value, and think Kylo's 'let the past die' rhetoric was the actual theme of the movie.
This segment of the fandom is so enamored with the idea of burning down all status quo, that any SW media that just embraces the original messages gets smeared as 'a regression' (*cough* Rise of Skywalker) and its pretty irritating.
the entire leslye headland collider interview is a hot mess but this exchange especially is driving out of my mind. in what galaxy are these people living?? in any other work, someone forgiving you even as you kill them would be the ultimate expression of compassion and unconditional love. that is so, so good! it's delicious and heart-wrenching, i love it!
but to these people, it's... taking away the killer's agency?? what??? so now luke skywalker throwing away his lightsaber and telling darth vader that he won't fight him in return of the jedi (1983) is taking away vader's agency? adding insult to injury? and not, i don't know, the other third guy in the shadows making them fight in the first place?
also, IN WHAT UNIVERSE ARE KILLS SUPPOSED TO BE SATISFACTORY. THIS ISN'T A VIDEO GAME!!!
#star wars#the acolyte critical#leslye headland critical#the acolyte#star wars thoughts#star wars sequel trilogy#both the lovers and haters of the last jedi completely misunderstand it

and just to clarify my position... Sabine using emotional manipulation to avoid admitting to her faults and the betrayal that went into getting her here is NOT bad writing in itself.
It's bad writing for Sabine. It's bad writing in this show. Because this show has no interest in constructing on character flaws. It won't address that what Sabine is doing here is actually bad, the same way it glamorised and downplayed her fleeing her responsabilities and endangering herself and others for no reason in a speeder chase instead. It's cool girl sstuff, so it stays in.
Does it make a statement about the mental state of a 30 yo character? No.
You're not meant to think about it, because this entire show is written as if it were an animated rebel arc (except now they have to pad for time with long stretches of staring and empty dialogue).
I've already made a post about "A better Ahsoka series", keeping all of the major plot points but changing the characters motivations and dynamics to make the conflict more engaging, but this right here is another great example of wasted drama.
I think a better version of this would have Sabine deflect instead of manipulating Ezra. She literally guilt trips him into stopping with his basic questions!
How about instead she grabs him by the shoulders and says :
"Forget about me for a second, how are you... alive? What happened? How did you escape Thrawn? How have you... Were you all right? Were you... waiting for us? All this time?"
Because those are things that 1/she wants to know and 2/depending on Ezra's answer, maye triple her guild for not getting there sooner and start off the new guilt that she has no plan off planet.
But that shouldn't be her main issue!! She has a way off planet. We cut off in the show to her looking guilty, but ideally when Ezra says "I can't wait to go home!" she should grimace and open up: "look, the good news is that I found you. The bad news is that I hitched a ride here with the people rescuing Thrawn. So he's sort of our only ride back."
And when Ezra starts devising a plan to get aboard the ship, Sabine can cut him off and say sadly it's not just the witches who might sense them, but there are 2 fallen Jedi on world right now, and knowing Thrawn, they'll already be on their trail (remember how Sabine is supposed to be smart?)
THEN we can move into character conflict in which Ezra is upset at the amount of hopeless sacrifice Sabine put in to get to him, and Sabine upset that he got to sacrifice it all but when she does it it's not welcome? You know, idiot dialogue that needs to be vented.
And now Ahsoka's probable death comes into the conversation and changes the tone again. Imagine ending the happy reunion on a scared Ezra asking, "Sabine, what did you do?"
Of course all of this free time would be gained by nuking the Shin and Baylan roaming around aimlessly and discussing vapid stuff they should have covered years ago in their relationship. 5 whole minutes of saved screentime. Also no Ahsoka clip, not considering she makes excuses for Sabine with the concept of 'fate' (very poor taste), and Huyang tells a story of the creation of the galaxy by going "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away", because the only way to get approval for this show is by pressing all the SW buttons in our monkey brains.
5 more minutes unwasted from the shit show to make meaningful character interactions. To make Sabine do the same things but without being an empty sham of a character.
