On TV Tropes, we call this the "Rage Breaking Point". But who could inspire such frothing fury from this samurai wabbit?

I feel like I'm the minority here, but I don't think trimming branches off trees and bushes or cutting the grass is actually spiritually significant to them.
Lots of folk like to ask permission of a tree's spirit before taking a limb. Which is good, being polite is always a plus. But I genuinely don't think they care. I feel like they have a relationship to branches and leaves like we do to hair or nails - a part of you that grows but doesn't actually hurt to remove.
I think it comes down to scale as well. Taking a 3in thick limb from an ancient Oak tree is going to be irksome but not detrimental, because it has 15 more. Taking a single leaf from a sapling could kill it.
Idk where I was headed with these thoughts. Concluding sentence.

people constantly talk about making a little middle age peasant boy try a can of monster or whatever to give them cultural shock but one thing i genuenly wonder about is how they would have reacted to modern artstyles, particularly cartoon and anime ones.
like, we can see anime girls or random fanart on tumblr and think nothing of it because we grew up in a cultural context where they were either the norm or we saw the artistic evolution from the style we grew up with into the current styles. but like imagine presenting a victorian child (whose only exposure to comics might have been the yellow kid and hasnt gotten to see the creation of the rubberhose style which would evolve into the disney style which would later inspire osamu tezuka who would set the foundations for the anime style that would evolve across half a century into moeblobs or whatever) to an image of panty and stocking or dragon maid.
would he be able to parse that this is supposed to depict people? would he think they look attractive or that they look like deformed homunculi. would this little german boy, fresh off the coal mines, be able to appreciate that characters like the powerpuff girls are supposed to look cute? that the designs of the characters in arcane are meant to be compelling and aspirational? would hans who is two months away from dying from tuberculosis, think that the simpsons look like incoherent doodles from someone who has no idea how to draw? would he understand the stylization in the way that lisa's and bart's hairline fades into their heads or think they are disturbingly mishappen? would he be able to understand that bugs bunny is supposed to be a rabbit or would the proportions of his limbs throw him for a loop? he would probably be able to understand furries, after all anthropomophized animals are something that human culture has had since the very beggining, but would he have it within himself the capacity to get as obsessed as kids today get over them? we have to remember we grew up in a culture where humanized animals, specifically depicted in a semi disney-cartoonish style, has been the main component in a little kid's media diet, but would this kid, who at 12 years of age has never seen a sparkle dog, be capable of being as enchanted by this as kids today?
these questions keep me up at night.

i think at the end of the day its in a furry's nature to strive for appeal. the phenomenon of shark furries with fur and cute ears comes from the fact that a lot of the times people just throw shit they find appealing together even when it doesnt make any sense. so they combine the traits they like in sharks (fat tails, shiny skin, fins, sharp teeth) and combine it with stuff they already find appealing (cute expressive ears and fluffy fur)
and also.. its the front facing eyes man. creatures with front facing eyes are easier to understand/draw at different angles for Most people. my fursona is a goat and i still struggle with drawing a realistic goat head facing forward or like 3/4. sometimes you just want to draw a simple cute face that's easy to stylize and emote with. so basically kemonomimis. kemonomimis are cute and easy to draw but they are in essence literally just the same face/head structure and you only really recognize the species if it has very specific recognizable traits (so a goat will have horns and horizontal pupils, sheep will have fleece, cats will have triangle ears and so on)
a lot of this also comes from the fact people mostly get inspired from other modern furry art online instead of looking to other places. i Personally dont agree with this but what a lot of people think when they think 'furries' is a very specific subset of furry art. instead of the full spectrum of how Anthropomophic Animals can be portrayed

Last night, my Eldest Child was looking up a voice actor's work to see what else he'd been in.
"OMG!! Lackadaisy! You don't know this one Mum, but it's this really cool cartoon about cats but like anthropomophic ones, and it's set in the olden days, and...Mum. Mum. Why are you smiling at me like that?"
"My darling," I replied "I have been reading it since shortly after you were born. It is a little bit older than you are, and it helped me stay sane when you would feed and feed and feed and just wouldn't sleep."
"...it's a comic too?!!"

I think people hear something like "cats pupils dilate when they're exited" and then think that means every instance of a cat with its pupils dilated means it's happy.
They'll hear that cats roll onto their back when they're calm and trusting or playful, and then think that a cat rolling onto its back defensively is the same thing and means the fact, who is displaying all the signs of legitimate terror, is actually just playful and happy.
and then they'll anthropomophize them and say that cats hiss when they're angry (because the person would want to be able to hiss when they're angry), even though cats hiss when they're extremely fucking afraid.
"Cats will roll onto their back to show they're calm" does not equal "every time a cat rolls onto its back it's calm".
If you don't actually know the full scope of cat body language and how to interpret it, don't reblog videos of cats without checking the notes first to see if anyone's fucking explained all the signs of terror that "Super cute funny cat" is displaying like a human screaming at the top of their lungs.

Charles the Dewgong
I also met Charles while cruising out to the Bahamas, and really liked how anthropomophizing Dewgongs and Primarinas could make for some excellent macro scenes!
