3. “we really shouldn’t” “so?” with anthony stolarz
he def seems like the type of guy who’d be ur brothers teammate and you’d sleep with him behind ur brothers back 😶
prompt no.3: “we really shouldn’t.” “so?”
your brother mitch has always been protective. you’re his younger sister, two years younger than him, and have always been super kind and naive. from a young age, he saw the way people took advantage of you and felt that it was his responsibility to keep you safe.
when you got a bit older and started dating, mitch’s protectiveness got worse. no boy was good enough, even when they were. mitch would drive boys away with menacing looks and what he called ‘stern talkings’ which are also known as threats.
eventually when you convinced your brother to chill the fuck out a little bit and let you work things out on your own, he surprisingly agreed.
under one circumstance.
you can’t date his friends, and you certainly can’t date his teammates. ever.
and you could live with that. most of mitch’s friends where your friends, and you didn’t see them that way. and when mitch started getting more serious about hockey, he barley went out or had his teammates come over, so you never even met them. steph would ask all the time if you wanted to come to games, but you weren’t really interested.
“maybe you’ll find a guy,” she used to tease, winking at you discreetly in the dim light of the living room.
you always responded the same way, “im not into hockey players.”
when mitch made it to the nhl, you started going to games more often. you got to drink beers that mitch was paying for, and chat with steph about school and boys without the prying ears of your brother and your family.
as the years passed, mitch never strayed from his dating rule or protectiveness over you.
you never planned on rebuking mitch’s dating rule until anthony stolarz waltzed into toronto with a summer tan and a perfect smile. he’s older than you, mature but doesn’t take himself too seriously. anthony introduced himself to you with a playful and intriguing gleam, and it instantly has you feeling things.
and your sister-in-law knows it too, because anytime mitch brings up anthony or the net minder is in the same room as you, she’s wiggling her brows at you and grinning. you hate her.
and it’s fine, you think. it’s just a stupid crush on a new, older man. you’ll get over it. it’s not reciprocated.
expect it’s totally reciprocated, and after too many glasses of wine and a private bathroom at some bar after a win, you and anthony begin hook up. and it doesn’t just end there. you have sex often, and kiss and go on dates even more frequently.
you find yourself in a secret relationship, and at the same time, betraying your older brother. slowly it becomes harder to keep a secret, and the people in your life start noticing.
it starts with steph who just knows you too well. she straight up just asks you, and you blurt it out like you physically can’t hold it in any longer. steph smirked and said, ‘I fucking knew it.’
next came auston matthews, one of mitch’s closest friends and teammates, walks in on your and anthony making out like teenagers in a guest bathroom. to be fair, you didn’t look the door. and it was also auston’s house. you rushed out after the goal scorer, lips glistening and eyes frantic, begging him not to say anything.
auston just laughed and said, ‘don’t worry kid, your secret is safe with me.’
your parents knew, and your closest friends knew (mostly leaf wags who you sworn to secrecy). it started to feel more real, and you certainly got more comfortable.
so yeah you may of had four too many beers at the game. and yeah, when you see your boyfriend walking out of the leafs dressing room, looking divine after a win, you just want to normal and go up to your boyfriend.
it wasn’t uncommon for you to wait in the tunnels with steph for mitch after games, especially when you’ve all driven to the rink together. anthony would always smile at you, a little too sexy for trying to be discrete, but you never pushed those boundaries. not when mitch could walk out.
but once again, you’re well passed tipsy and you just want to live up on your man like all the other wags get to. before you can think about it, you’re walking up to anthony, heels clicking on the floor as you make your way through the crowd.
anthony’s talking to morgan, completely unaware of the way your striding towards him until you’re right in front of him. you wrap your hand around his bicep, blinking up at him with a glossed over expression.
“hi,” you beam, glossy lips tempting.
anthony swallows, eyes squinting in amusement. he shoots a glance at morgan, who is just stifling laughter like he knows—god damn it tessa. “hi,” he parrots.
“missed you,” you whine, pushing up onto the toe of your heeled boots and pucker your lips, “can I have a kiss?”
anthony laughs, rubbing the back of his neck and subtly scanning the room—checking if anyone was watching. morgan has slipped away now, and there’s only a few lingering people left in the tunnel. he sees steph, eyeing you both sneakily. which means mitch is still here.
“we really shouldn’t.” he mumbles. despite his words, anthony lets his hand wrap around your waist, keeping you against his chest to steady your drink sway. he licks along his bottom lip, “your brother could catch us.”
“so?” you huff, pushing even further up his body. “just a quick kiss.” you say. you’re too happy on wine and in love to think about your brothers stupid rule right now. you couldn’t care less about anything besides your gigantic boyfriend—who is grinning down at you like you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to him.
and you are. more than the nhl. more than the stanley cup. more than breathing.
quickly, anthony leans down, free hand enclosing on the side of your face as he tilts your head up, connecting your lips together.
the kiss doesn’t last nearly as long as you need it to, and you whine when anthony pulls off of you. you’re not caught, thankfully, and that only makes you want to kiss him over and over again.
“i’ll see you later, kay?” anthony whispers softly, talking his hand off your hips.
you nod, taking your bottom lip between your teeth and dropping back down to your heels. “love you.”
“love you too.”

Merry Christmas, honey - Anthony Stolarz
summary: you and Anthony celebrate Christmas a special way
pairing: Anthony Stolarz x female!reader
word count: 2.3k
warnings: fight, mentions of hospitals, mentions of injuries, mention of accident and injury of a family member (not in detail)
authors notes:
Is it Christmas right now? no, but in honor of Stolies amazing comeback yesterday I thought I´d publish this, I hope you enjoy it anyways
I woke up at 4 am for that game and I didn´t regret it one bit
---------------------------------------------------------
The fire crackled lightly coasting your dimly lit living room in a soft glow when you leaned against the doorframe to take in the picture in front of you. The dog was laying on the couch next to the man who you looked forward to coming home to since the beginning of your shift many hours ago.
It was Christmas Eve; you didn’t expect to work today when you woke up, but a sudden sickness of a coworker left you with no choice. You fought about it before you left.
“You promised me no work today.” He had yelled into the silence of the condo earlier. You knew he was disappointed; this was the only break you had together until February, he had looked forward to actually spending time with you ever since the move.
Now, with him being injured he was home more often but your shifts were already scheduled, mostly to accompany his busy hockey calendar. That left him alone most days while you were rushing around at the hospital.
Silence filled the space even with the TV playing. You tuned it out, focusing on how to make things right. “Hey.” Your voice merely a whisper. You weren’t even sure he heard you but when he turned his head and locked his eyes with yours you knew he did.
“Hey.” He mumbled in return. “Merry Christmas Eve.” It was a way to deflect from the actual conversation you should have and at the same time tried to make up for forgetting all about it because of your fight earlier. He sighed. His shoulders sacking alongside it. “Merry Christmas Eve.” He returned regardless.
“I´m sorry.”
His bright blue eyes locked with yours. “I know.” His expression almost indifferent but his large hand cupped your cheek in a soft comfort. You leaned into his touch, the warmth something you had been craving in the chaos of the ER earlier.
“I´m sorry too. I know how important work is to you and that you wouldn’t have gone if it wouldn’t have been an emergency. I overreacted.” Putting your hand on the one he was still holding on your cheek, softly brushing over it, you sighed out loud.
“I promised you no work today and I broke the promise.” Your hand began to tremble as the many emotions of the day crashed down on you. Tears spilled over the rim of your eyes and your voice began to shake.
His face frowned in worry. “It´s not a big deal, honey, I promise, I overreacted.” His voice carried over to you, but you didn’t quite register what he actually said. It was like you were in a bubble and he was outside, trying to talk to you.
“I´m so sorry.” You sobbed. At this point your entire body was shaking and you were crying uncontrollably, unable to hold your emotions any longer.
Anthony wrapped his strong arms around you and pulled you against his chest as tight as he could. The comfort of his embrace usually something that calmed you down. Not today. “What happened at work?” He whispered as he gave you more comforting rubs on your back.
He knew you better than believing this was about just the fight.
“I don’t believe this is all because of the little fight we had earlier.” You took in a deep breath while trying to calm yourself down but the pictures of the scenes you had experienced earlier still flashed through your head. Strong arms grabbing under your knees made you snap out of it.
He had picked you up and was carrying you to the couch where he put you down and wrapped you in one of the cozy blankets you bought earlier this month because he was complaining that you didn’t have any big enough for the both of you.
The memory should’ve brought a smile to your face but today it didn’t. It was Christmas you should not feel this overwhelming sadness.
Anthony pulled you into his chest again and let you cry for a few more minutes before he spoke up quietly. “What´s going on, honey.” He asked again, his voice softer this time but still filled with worry.
“There was this little girl in the ER today, she fell off her sled and now has a concussion and a broken arm because she crashed into a tree. It reminded me of my brother.”
He knew your brother had a similar but much worse ending incident when you were children. It left him in the hospital for weeks, he eventually recovered but Christmas that year was ruined for you and your family.
“She will be fine, but you should have seen these poor parents, the husband could barely calm his wife down, she was so worried about her little girl. And then there was the woman who came with her boyfriend that fell off a ladder while putting up Christmas lights. He was unconscious when they arrived, and she cried so much we had to give her a sedative to calm her down. I spiraled and thought about what I would do if that man would be you and…and with our fight this morning.” a heartbreaking sob ripped through you. Anthony was quick to pull you against his chest again after you moved away while you spoke.
“Hey, hey…” He softly began to rub your back in smooth circles with one hand while whipping away the tears under your eyes with the other. “I´m here, I´m okay. I´m tall enough to put up Christmas lights without a ladder.” That made you let out a soft chuckle.
“And I´m not mad at you for this morning. I overreacted massively, because I was looking forward to spending some time with you were neither of us had to run to our jobs for a while.”
You snuggled back into his side while he went back to rubbing you back.  “You job means everything to you and look, if you wouldn’t have been there today the little girl or the guy wouldn’t have gotten the best care I can imagine. I´m sorry for yelling earlier. Never forget that I love you, sweetheart.” He placed a soft kiss to your head.
Your sobs had gotten quieter while he was speaking, and you were not shaking as hard anymore. His strong arms the shield you needed in this time, his words warming your heart. Coming home to him was the best part of your day, no matter how you left in the morning.
For a second you let your thoughts wander to a forever. Waking up next to him for the rest of your life something that made your heart beat faster in excitement.
You had talked about it before but with the stress of moving and getting comfortable in a whole new country it hasn´t come up in a while. Neither of you feeling any pressure to take the next step though.
You were content with how your life was.
“I love you.” He smiled down at you. His soft grin caught in the warmth of the fire cracking besides you, his usually icy blue eyes cast in a soft glow, wrinkles at the side from squinting them with his smile.
Anthony leaned down and pressed a kiss as light as a feather to your lips. “Let´s go to bed, it´s Christmas tomorrow and you definitely need some rest before the craziness of being around my teammates.”
------------------------
The soft glow of the sun peeking through the blinds of the bedroom woke you up. The heartbreaking evening long forgotten after you and your boyfriend spend hours cuddled up in bed talking about old memories and a future you wanted to build.
The same boyfriend who was now missing from the other side of your shared bed. “Babe?” You asked into the quiet of the room, your voice still filled with sleepiness. You got no response, but your puppy jumped up on the bed at the sound of his mom being awake. “Where´s dad?” you asked the golden retriever but he just looked at you with curious eyes and snuggled closer to your side.
You spent 10 more minutes in bed with him before getting up. When you made your way down the hall towards the kitchen and living room you heard the sizzling of something frying in a pan and the coffee maker rumbling.
The scene that you took in when you stepped into the kitchen was a sight for sore eyes. Anthony, in his plaid Christmas pajamas, in front of the stove while singing along to Christmas music that was quietly playing over the surround system he had installed when you moved in.
“Good morning.” You greeted him as you wrapped your arms around his torso. “Good morning, sweetheart, merry Christmas.” He turned around and placed a quick kiss on your lips before quickly facing the stove again. “Merry Christmas.”
While preparing breakfast you fell into comfortable conversation about the dinner you would attend later tonight. Some of Anthony´s teammates who also didn’t have any family coming to town or celebrated with them earlier because of European traditions were getting together at Morgan Rielly and Tessa Virtues house for a casual Christmas dinner before the craziness would pick back up two days from now.
While eating you discussed the new year’s party Steph and Mitch would be hosting after the team played their afternoon game on the 31st. Sharing laughter over things you expected to happen when the entirety of the Toronto Maple Leafs came together to party.
-------------------------
“Time for presents?” Anthony asked after finishing to clear the table. “Oh, you think there is any for you?” Raising your eyebrow at him, which made him laugh and wrap his arms around you before plastering kisses all over your face. The anxious and sad atmosphere from the night before replaced by warmth, coziness and laughter.
The number of presents accumulated under your Christmas tree was almost overwhelming but since neither of your families would be visited or visiting this year everyone sent their presents per mail.
Anthony was ecstatic over the photo book you created from his Stanley Cup victory last season filled with memories from the first round all the way until the three-week tropical vacation you took right after his day with the cup and before you had moved to Toronto. Placing multiple soft kisses on your lips when he finished flipping through it.
You freaked when you unwrapped the LV handbag he got you, but only after you complained that it was way too expensive which he only shrugged off. "I saw you stare at the website every other day, and who would I be if I wouldn´t spoil my girlfriend."
Something was off about him, but he kept rubbing his hands together and brushing them over his hair as if he was nervous. Maybe it was still some lingering tension from yesterday or nerves about the dinner? Regardless of what it was you put it aside to focus on the adorable picture Anthony and the dog playing with his newly acquired toys.
“I love you, thank you for all of this.” You gestured towards the pile of gifts he gave you. Much more than you expected and so much more than you wanted. You knew he loved spoiling you, but this was excessive even for him. Warmth spread through you when he grabbed your hand and placed a soft kiss to it before looking at you with the sweetest smile. “I love you.”
----------------------------
“Hey, looks like there is one more!” He pointed at a small square package that apparently slipped a little far under the tree so neither of you really acknowledged it being there until now.
Anthony laid flat on the floor and reached out his long arm to grab it from all the way in the back. It was a subtly wrapped present compared to the colorful wrapping paper the both of you and your family and friends had chosen for the rest. A sleek name tag was added to it, and it revealed your name. “Looks like it´s for you.”
Confusion was written all over your face. “Who is this from?” Your boyfriend shrugged, appearing equally as confused as you. You shot him an odd look at his reaction but shook your head to shrug it off. You were probably just imagining things.
“Just open it, maybe there is a note or something.” He began kneading his hands as you unwrapped which you acknowledged with a confused look but put it off as something normal.
Under the sleek dark red wrapping paper was a black velvet box. “No note and no name. someone wanted to be mysterious.” You giggled. Anthony nodded along as he once again brushed his hands over his tussled hair, again.
Your breath was taken away as you opened the box. The gorgeous diamond ring sparkled in the soft light of the Christmas tree. It was a silver band adorned with a few smaller diamonds to the side of a bigger but still relatively subtle diamond on top. The confusion on your face turned into pure shock as you looked at your boyfriend.
“Anthony…” you whispered.
He took the box out of your hand and stood up. “I didn’t plan on doing this today, but I could not wait any longer. I had this ring stashed in my rink bag ever since you agreed to move to another country with me without hesitation. I waited for a long time to find the right moment to do this and after yesterday I could not imagine a more perfect morning to ask you the probably most important question, I will ever ask you.” He got down on one knee right as you slapped your hands over your mouth.
“I love you. I don’t want to ever spend another day without you by my side. I want to go through all the highs and lows of life with you, travel the world and have a family. Would you do the honor of becoming my wife and marry me?”
A sob teared through you but this time it wasn’t a sad one. The warm eyes of the man you wanted to go through life with on you, him down on one knee holding a beautiful diamond ring asking you to be his forever. “Of course I will marry you.”
------------------------
When you showed off your ring to the other wives and girlfriends that evening, got high pitched screams and big hugs as congratulations you looked over to the group of Leafs players who gathered and patted your fiancé on his back in congratulations you smiled remembering that the man over there was the one who would be your forever.

more tat news! and yes confirmed benny does have it on his leg just like ekky!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think a lot about ekky actually inviting tattoo artists to his house the day after after the club eleven adventures (27th) and before they went to beergarden (29th)
Tumblr media
and from goldies tweet we can pinpoint the exact day it happened on the 28th
Tumblr media
and that very much explains why when stevie shows off his tat at beergarden it does have a wrap over it
"[My Dad, Brother and I] all got matching Stanley Cup tattoos on our quads!" "Let's see it! Let's see it! Stand up real quick! Let me see you!" "'Let's see it!' Look at that." "It's just a little guy! It's just a little guy!" "I love it!" "It's just a little guy, but yeah, no...Sam Bennett, Anthony Stolarz, Monty, and Steve Lorentz—we all got em like 2 days later. It was fun! We were all—you know, no sleep, straight into the tattoo estab—" "Oh sure! You woke up and you were like, 'Huh, I got something on—" "Oskar Sundqvist did the same thing, man!" "I like it! I'm a fan of it! I really like it! And the fact that we all have the same one is pretty cool!" "Let's see that hair real quick! What do you got going? Let's see what you got going—Oh, God! Andy!" "What?" "Geez, he's got that Swede in you!"

Ramblings: Canes Celebrating, Players Returning From Injury (Feb 17)
I wonder if Don Cherry and Brian Burke realize that the more they criticize the Hurricanes’ post-game victory celebrations, the more it will inspire the Canes to get to the next one. Okay, I’m sure that doesn’t directly motivate the Canes, but the words of old-school hockey types won’t change what the Canes have started. To me, the celebrations seem childlike and a bit goofy and definitely fun, but not insulting or disrespectful or like "jerks" toward an opponent. In addition, if these celebrations generate hockey interest in Carolina, they can’t be that bad.
Life is enjoyable for the Hurricanes right now, as they sit one point ahead of Pittsburgh for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference (Pens have one game in hand, though, but why spoil the fun with that fact?)
{youtube}UJAZr5OeMUU{/youtube}
Petr Mrazek ensured that his team was able to limbo after the game, stopping all 33 shots he faced in a 3-0 win. Mrazek has pitched shutouts in two of his last three starts. Overall, the Canes have had great goaltending from the Mrazek/Curtis McElhinney tandem recently, allowing just five goals over their last five games. Mrazek and McElhinney are both in the top 15 in goals-against average among goalies that have played at least 20 games, so maybe they could even be considered a poor man’s Islanders’ tandem (as weird as that may sound).
If you’re the Hurricanes and you’re in this spot, should you really trade Micheal Ferland? Isn’t he the kind of player that you need down the stretch and into the playoffs, should you make it there? With a goal on Saturday, Ferland has five points in his last three games.
*
Tyler Bertuzzi returned to the Wings’ lineup on Saturday, scoring a goal and adding an assist while logging 19 minutes of icetime alongside pre-injury linemates Dylan Larkin and Gustav Nyquist. This has been interrupted by his upper-body injury, but Bertuzzi has eight points (4g-4a) in his last six games. Even though he plays on the Wings’ top line, Bertuzzi is just 6 percent owned in Yahoo leagues.
Claude Giroux left the game briefly after this hit, but fortunately, he was able to return. Anthony Mantha might receive a call from NHL Player Safety for this hit.
Dangerous play by Anthony Mantha on Claude Giroux goes unpenalized pic.twitter.com/x3oIlGzqAh
— Brady Trettenero (@BradyTrett) February 16, 2019
Much to the chagrin of Flyers’ fans, Mantha scored two third-period goals, including the tying goal with seven seconds left in regulation.
*
Justin Schultz returned to the Penguins’ lineup on Saturday after being out of the lineup since mid-October with a broken leg. He recorded an assist while playing on the Pens’ second-unit power play. Take away the four-month gap and Schultz has five points in five games. He had a dud of a 2017-18 season (27 points in 63 games), but remember that he’s only two years removed from a 51-point campaign. Even though he won’t get a sniff of the Pens’ first-unit power play barring a Kris Letang injury, the offensive-minded Schultz is worth a flier in mid-sized fantasy leagues.
Evgeni Malkin returned from his one-game suspension, scoring two power-play goals and adding an assist. Even though he has a six-game point streak, Malkin had been held without a goal in his previous seven games.
With three assists in the Flames’ win on Saturday, Derek Ryan now has seven points in his last seven games.
*
Shots on goal update for Brayden Schenn: After he failed to record a shot for four consecutive games, Schenn took three shots on Saturday. And he recorded another assist on another Vladimir Tarasenko goal. After an ice-cold first half, Tarasenko is one of the league’s hottest players with 14 goals and 12 assists in his last 19 games, and he is riding an 11-game point streak. And the Blues’ win streak is now at nine games.
This time, though, it was Jake Allen’s turn to ride the Blues’ wave. Allen stopped all 32 shots he faced in the 3-0 win. The Blues were playing their first of back-to-backs, so the red-hot Jordan Binnington should be back between the pipes on Sunday against Minnesota. Imagine that: The Blues are playing so well that you’re safe to start Jake Allen.
*
The Oilers have been busy making trades. Here are our fantasy takes on each trade:
Talbot/Stolarz trade
Spooner/Gagner trade
Sam Gagner got to Brooklyn in time for Saturday’s game against the Islanders. In case you were wondering if he would immediately be placed on the McDavid line, there was no such luck. He started the game on a line with Tobias Rieder and Colby Cave but later Cave was swapped for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Gagner played just under ten minutes while receiving second-unit power-play time.
By the way, Jesse Puljujarvi was a healthy scratch for this game. Get him to the AHL.
*
Yesterday I mentioned my strategy about starting both of my goalies whenever they face each other. It didn’t go so well on Friday, but Saturday provided an example of why I use it. Most fantasy owners would normally start Frederik Andersen over Darcy Kuemper. Yet on Saturday it was Kuemper earning the win and shutout with a 4-0 victory over the Andersen and the Leafs. The backup-turned-starter for the Desert Dogs has now earned wins in three of his past four games and continues to be a reasonable option in fantasy leagues.
With his goal on Saturday, Alex Galchenyuk now has four goals in his last four games.
*
Dustin Byfuglien was out of the Jets’ lineup on Saturday because of a lower-body injury.  Even though Big Buff is still a beast out there, I’ve predicted over the last couple seasons that the wear and tear of his physical game would catch up to him. Now we’re seeing signs of that, as the now 33-year-old blueliner has already missed 22 games and counting this season.
Whenever Byfuglien has been out of the lineup, Josh Morrissey has been considered the Jets’ defenseman to start in your lineup. Morrissey logged nearly 25 minutes on Saturday, but Tyler Myers did the damage from the Jets’ blueline, scoring two goals. Myers now has four points in his last four games and seems to be a decent pickup while Byfuglien is out.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Senators have made the decision to trade Matt Duchene. Hey, it would be better than losing him for nothing, considering the price that they paid for him. It sounds like the Sens are trying to re-sign Mark Stone, however. Don’t forget to check out our Trade Tracker for a list of trades made over the past month.
*
Andrei Vasilevskiy earned a relatively easy 20-save shutout against the Habs, giving him shutouts in back-to-back games and four consecutive wins. He should be a frontrunner for the Vezina Trophy.
Nikita Kucherov continues to do his thing. He now has at least one goal and two points in four consecutive games with 13 points over that span. He now has a seven-point lead in the scoring race. He should be a frontrunner for the Hart Trophy.
*
Erik Karlsson returned to the Sharks’ lineup on Saturday after missing the past nine games, posting an assist in nearly 25 minutes of icetime. He had been playing extremely well before his injury, scoring 28 points over his previous 20 games. Of course you’ll want to get him back in your lineup.
*
Artemi Panarin’s name continues to be discussed in trade rumors, and someone here might be writing a fantasy impact piece of his trade in the next week or so. In the meantime he is a Blue Jacket and he continues to score. The Bread Man scored two goals and added an assist with a plus-4 rating in the Jackets’ 5-2 win. Yep, it’s going to be an interesting week and a bit to find out if he goes anywhere. The Jackets are in a playoff spot but are by no means secure. An idea making the rounds would see the Jackets trade Panarin to one team for picks and/or prospects, then trade picks and/or prospects to a second team for something that could help the Blue Jackets right away.
*
Max Pacioretty entered Saturday’s game without a goal and with just one assist in his past five games. He broke that slide with two goals on nine shots in the Golden Knights’ 5-1 win over Nashville. Patches may not reach 30 goals again, but with 16 goals he’s just one shy of his season total from all last season while playing in 18 fewer games. So the move to Vegas has helped his fantasy value overall, even if he doesn’t reach the heights he did in Montreal.
*
Jeff Carter returned to the Kings’ lineup on Saturday, but he was held without a point in 18 minutes of icetime. He was placed on a line with Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Leipsic.
Jonathan Quick fell ill on Saturday, so Jack Campbell started for the Kings, allowing four goals on 24 shots in the loss. So it was the Kings’ turn to start an emergency goalie. Steve Jakiel, a former college goalie who is now a finance manager, was the emergency backup. I can’t recall an emergency backup ever being pressed into action, but I can remember years ago in Vancouver when a University of British Columbia goalie waited nervously on the bench while Johan Hedberg, the Canucks’ only healthy NHL goalie, was on the ice injured.
With a goal and an assist on Saturday, Jake DeBrusk now has six points (3g-3a) over his last three games.
*
Looking ahead to Sunday, Alexandar Georgiev will be starting for the Rangers in Pittsburgh. This will be Georgiev’s second consecutive start after stopping 31 of 33 shots he faced in win on Friday. Georgiev has reeled off three consecutive wins while allowing six goals over that span, so he has earned the opportunity for more starts. Meanwhile, Henrik Lundqvist has lost four consecutive games. It’s been awhile since there’s truly been a battle between the pipes for the Rangers, but we could be looking at one now as King Henrik is on the downside of his career.
For more starting goalie information, be sure to check Goalie Post.

Potential Trade Targets in Net for the Flyers
From the moment Chuck Fletcher took over as general manager for the ousted Ron Hextall – even earlier for some – fans clamored for a new netminder. Alex Lyon and Anthony Stolarz were likely AHL-level talent, with the latter potentially capable of stepping into the role of a backup at the NHL level. Brian Elliott was good, but coming off a core muscle injury in 2017-18, he’d become a bit of an injury concern. Michael Neuvirth was a mediocre goalie who could put up a gem from time-to-time, but was an average at best goaltender in the NHL. Cal Pickard? No thanks.
With the NHL’s roster freeze set to thaw out as of 12:00 AM December 28th, it’s entirely conceivable that the Flyers, led by Fletcher, could announce a deal to provide some cover for 20-year-old prodigy Carter Hart. I believe if Fletcher had his druthers, he’d send Hart back down to the Phantoms ASAP, not because Hart’s a bad player, but because he’s gained some useful experience and could build on it at the speed of the AHL game.
The Flyers have been rumored to have interest in three goalies in particular over the past few weeks: Craig Anderson (Ottawa Senators), Corey Crawford (Chicago Blackhawks), and Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings). Unfortunately for the Flyers, the former two have suffered concussions with the Anderson likely to return to the ice sooner even though his injury was sustained more recently (December 21st vs. New Jersey) than Crawford’s (December 16th vs. San Jose). The most recent trade buzz picked up via Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos’ assertion that the Flyers have spoken with the LA Kings regarding Jonathan Quick.
Let’s take a look at how they stack up comparatively, keeping in mind that Anderson’s numbers reflect 31 games played and 30 games started, while Crawford and Quicks’ represent a data set of 23/23 and 14/14 respectively:
Each player’s save percentage is virtually identical at just at or slightly over 90%, while their goals against average hover in the mid-to-low threes. Their Goals Saved Above Average numbers are troubling in the case of Crawford and Quick compared to last year’s numbers (+13.9 & +16.86 respectively), but a real gain in Anderson’s case (-24.83 in 2017-18). Each goalie’s quality starts percentage is decent, though Crawford trails by a bit. Real Bad Starts is a funny stat, but what’s not funny is the 16.7-21.4% of games these guys have put up.
The next consideration – possibly even more important – is the remaining salary on each player’s contract as well as their age:
In terms of compensation on the Flyers’ side of things? There’s really no consensus. Quick is probably the best of the three, but he’s had hip issues and a $5.8m cap hit for four more seasons after this one could be brutal. If the Flyers believe Carter Hart could be ready to assume the role of starter in the next year or two, there could be a market for Quick if he were to stay healthy and prove effective. If not, he’d be an expensive backup for a couple of years. Corey Crawford would be an attractive option due to his consistently stellar play on a Stanley Cup winner over the past eight seasons specifically. He might cost you a pick or two and a decent roster player, but I can’t imagine Chicago requiring someone like Shayne Gostisbehere. Craig Anderson isn’t my cup of tea as a full-time starter. If the Flyers are looking for someone to split time with Hart, he’d be a much more attractive option.
The roster freeze ends in a few hours. Let’s see if Chuck Fletcher is ready to play.

Fantasy hockey - Leading 250 rankings for the rest of the 2016-seventeen season

Fantasy hockey - Leading 250 rankings for the rest of the 2016-seventeen season
More than a several goaltending conditions have introduced on their own as tricky to rank this season. The entrepreneurs of Sergei Bobrovsky, Devan Dubnyk, Braden Holtby or other these kinds of dependable stalwarts really should be thanking their fortunate stars that they never have to offer with any of the a lot of tough circumstances in NHL creases.
Anecdotally, it certainly feels like a exceptional season for goaltender benefit, with less players featuring consistency and reliability — even if it was only for modest fantasy benefit. Let’s get a speedy spin by means of all thirty nets for just a speedy thought or two on the present problem all over the league.
Anaheim Ducks: Affected person John Gibson entrepreneurs have been rewarded right after a slow start off with the 23-calendar year-outdated rounding into kind as a very clear No. 1 fantasy goaltender. Sizzling off the press: Gibson suffered an higher-physique injuries Saturday and left the game, however the injuries is just not major, for every the L.A. Day-to-day News. Nonetheless, Jonathan Bernier, as always, is a passable handcuff in Gibson’s absence.
Arizona Coyotes: Mike Smith is a single of those people rare commodities we stated in the opening: dependable, if unspectacular. He is a solid goaltender enjoying for a sub-par group, but the effects are at the very least predictable. It can be probable he could be a really solid No. two fantasy goaltender if your No. 1 is Holtby, Dubnyk or Bobrovsky, but his fantasy companion on your group demands to be elite.
Boston Bruins: Tuukka Rask is quietly turning in an additional elite season involving the pipes. He has the stamina and experience to press by means of and end as a No. 1 fantasy goalie.
Buffalo Sabres: Robin Lehner could be a No. 1 fantasy goaltender if he could get some separation on Anders Nilsson — and some offensive guidance. With the Sabres’ offense rounding into kind, it is really not a extend to imagine Lehner closing the season within the top 20 goaltenders.
Calgary Flames: Both of those goaltenders gave up a few plans on Saturday evening, offering us a pleasant reminder that this crease continues to be a mess for fantasy entrepreneurs. It can be regrettable, simply because there is enormous possible listed here for Brian Elliott or Chad Johnson to be elite, but neither has been equipped to maintain constant for more time than a month. We are nonetheless stashing Elliott and crossing our fingers, but that really should only be a System C at this position.
Carolina Hurricanes: Cam Ward, like Mike Smith, has available muted but constant fantasy benefit. There is benefit in consistency this season, but Ward is not going to get it done for you by yourself.
Chicago Blackhawks: Corey Crawford has not been as unbeatable as he was prior to an injuries in December, but he has a very clear starter’s mantle and the keep track of file to get back into kind. He is a tier down from the elite, but a No. 1 fantasy goaltender even so.
Colorado Avalanche: A tire hearth burning out of regulate, the Avalanche crease is definitely the last location to look for fantasy assist. Semyon Varlamov is a mess this season and Calvin Pickard can only do so significantly with no defense. Prospect Spencer Martin is the hottest to get tossed in the frying pan. He is a talented child, but this is no location for a 21-calendar year-outdated netminder.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Sergei Bobrovsky is in a race with Devan Dubnyk to be the greatest fantasy goaltender in the NHL this season. Lock him into your roster as a legitimate No. 1.
Looking in advance to the long term? In this article are the greatest drafted players at present exterior the NHL, led by Clayton Keller and Mathew Barzal.
We check out in with scouts and executives on each individual team’s prospective customers, such as those people closest to the NHL and those people who’ve manufactured the most development.
Entry-stage contracts are both equally an opportunity and a challenge for NHL entrance offices. Here is a look at the groups creating the most of their youthful talent and the pitfalls in advance.
two Similar
Dallas Stars: The actuality that Antti Niemi can give up six plans, get pulled for Kari Lehtonen and nonetheless get a acquire is quite indicative of the kind of game the Stars play. Even if this tandem were being lowered to a very clear starter, the group performs much too fast and loose for fantasy benefit in the crease.
Detroit Red Wings: Jimmy Howard was getting a renaissance campaign before finding harm, when Petr Mrazek has not been equipped to get his game heading. Rookie Jared Coreau has shown flashes, but his over-all ratios are nonetheless in line with what Mrazek has done in the course of the season. Whilst Howard was moved to prolonged-term hurt reserve, he is nonetheless predicted back in February. Stash him 1st and then, in a desperate problem, stash Mrazek, much too. He was a single of the NHL’s greatest netminders for the next half last season.
Edmonton Oilers: The wins are there and the ratios are just a shade guiding the elite goaltenders of the NHL … sure, welcome to the No. 1 fantasy goalie realm, Cam Talbot! This was not always predicted of the former Rangers backup, but he finished up in the correct location at the correct time for Oilers rebuild to ultimately get root.
Florida Panthers: Surprisingly, Roberto Luongo‘s physique of do the job this season has been a lot more in line with a No. two fantasy goaltender — probably a solution of the injuries woes for the Panthers, or probably a solution of his advancing age. Either way, he is finding enough rest thanks to backup James Reimer and really should operate out the season as a solid No. two.
Los Angeles Kings: Poor Peter Budaj. He is been definitely brilliant stepping into the crease when Jonathan Rapid was harm in the 1st game of the season. But with a return of Jonathan Rapid predicted in a little a lot more than a month, there continues to be a business sunset scheduled on Budaj’s fantasy relevance. Get pleasure from the journey right until then.
Minnesota Wild: Practically nothing to see listed here other than the class of the NHL this season involving the pipes. Only Holtby and Bobrovsky can challenge Dubnyk as your most secure bet to shut out the season as the greatest fantasy goaltender at this position.
Montreal Canadiens: Carey Price tag is much too fantastic not to do the job by means of his present challenges and really should be back in kind sooner than afterwards. That kind, of course, is elite for fantasy uses. It almost certainly is not going to get you any place, but go in advance and concentrate on a hurting Price tag owner for a trade correct now. You never know, as his quantities have been quite poor for a month now.
Nashville Predators: The over-all consequence has been solid, but it has not been pleasurable getting a Pekka Rinne owner this season. Up a single month and down the subsequent, Rinne entrepreneurs could want to batten down the hatches as February ways. That explained, he really should be high-quality. We proceed to advocate for handcuffing Jusse Saros as a precaution.
New Jersey Devils: Cory Schneider entrepreneurs suffered by means of some poor moments before this season, but he is rounded into kind in 2017. Logic and keep track of file suggest he’ll be a No. 1 fantasy goaltender for the duration of the season.
New York Islanders: Parting techniques with Jaroslav Halak and mentor Jack Capuano has left Thomas Greiss in a really fantastic location for the rest of the campaign. One particular a two-game shutout streak and enjoying like a No. 1 fantasy netminder, Greiss could appear shut to that benefit if the group continues to convert all over its fortunes in 2017. He is obtainable in half of ESPN leagues, and is a excellent pickup for the extend operate.
New York Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist is in the midst of the worst statistical season of his job, only manufactured a lot more about by the exceptional ratios supplied by Antti Raanta in aid. Raanta is on the mend correct now, which buys Lundqvist some time, but you greater think the Rangers will start off whomever gives them the greatest shot at a acquire down the extend. Lundqvist entrepreneurs really should be handcuffing Raanta anywhere they can obtain him.
Ottawa Senators: This has been a weird problem, with starter Craig Anderson off for the bulk of the season to be with his ailing wife. Mike Condon has done a excellent task of holding down the fort, but like Budaj with the Kings, there nonetheless seems to be a very clear sunset on his benefit. Anderson is predicted back before the end of the month and to stay with the group for the rest of the season at that position. The intelligent move is to scoop up Anderson now, who really should give No. two fantasy goaltender quantities at a bare minimum.
Philadelphia Flyers: Exterior of a extend of good results before this season by Steve Mason, the Flyers’ crease has not been a location of fantasy goodness. Desperate entrepreneurs could want to stash prospect Anthony Stolarz, who could wind up starting up a bunch of games late this season right after the group ultimately pulls the chute on both Mason or Michal Neuvirth, as both equally sport a sub-.900 preserve proportion this season.
Pittsburgh Penguins: Marc-Andrey Fleury has been brilliant when Matt Murray is not all over, and dreadful when he is. Murray has regained the starting up part and it appears to be like increasingly like he’ll only cede it by means of injuries. Fleury is nonetheless well worth stashing in leagues in advance of the trade deadline he could wind up elsewhere, with a even larger part, and also simply because Murray has a troubling injuries record in his quick NHL job.
San Jose Sharks: A marvelous plans-from regular (two.24) to go with a significantly less impressive preserve proportion (.917), but a ton of wins (24) that is Martin Jones in a nutshell. The end consequence is a single of our several steady No. 1 fantasy goaltenders. He is only a action or two down from the elite.
St. Louis Blues: Remaining guiding by his group on a road vacation in order to hit the reset button, Jake Allen demands to do just that. Neither Carter Hutton nor Pheonix Copley are the answer listed here, so the group demands Allen to get his head straight. He went eleven-3-3 with a two.39 plans-from regular for the duration of the 1st two months of the season, so there’s nonetheless a No. 1 fantasy goaltender in listed here someplace. Do not abandon ship yet.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Andrei Vasilevskiy is the anti-Marc-Andre Fleury. When Ben Bishop has been healthy, Vasilevskiy has looked like he really should be the starter. When Bishop was harm and Vasilevskiy became the starter, he is looked like he really should be in the AHL. Exterior of a hole in his quick aspect from the Coyotes on Saturday, Bishop has looked solid considering the fact that returning from the hurt reserve, and is the a single to individual heading ahead, but Vasilevskiy helps make a intelligent handcuff.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Frederik Andersen is a lot more probably to let a few plans than two most nights, but his group has been finding him wins. The sum has been a minimal-end No. two fantasy goaltender, just barely in competition for a starting up part in most leagues. There are no signs that problem will modify in the subsequent two and half months.
Vancouver Canucks: After on the lookout like neither goaltender would have any benefit early this season, the Canucks discovered a way to play group defense. The consequence has been a impressive turnaround and resurgence in benefit for Ryan Miller. Since Dec. 13, Miller is 8-1-3 with a two.31 plans-from regular, which is bordering on No. 1 fantasy goaltender territory. He is obtainable in fifty % of ESPN leagues, and is a smart pickup to shut out the season.
Washington Capitals: Braden Holtby is as Braden Holtby does. Whilst an additional file-location season for wins is heading to be rough, it is really not out of the realm of likelihood. If Holtby is just not the top fantasy netminder at the end of the season, it is really only simply because Dunbyk a bit edged him out.
Winnipeg Jets: Last in the alphabet, and probably most messed up from a fantasy perspective. After Ondrej Pavelec was banished to the AHL to start off the campaign, he is back and profitable games for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck is just not fairly prepared for the frequent starting up gig, and Michael Hutchinson is significantly greater suited as a backup, so Pavelec could just be the answer listed here for the Jets. As prolonged as they can rating four plans for every game, they really should be high-quality. As for fantasy usage, Pavelec, as he has in the previous, will be a location starter at greatest.
Forwards mounting and slipping
John Tavares, C, New York Islanders (up six spots to No. 27): How the elite players can modify their season on a dime. On Jan. eleven, Tavares was on tempo for 23 plans and fifty nine details this season, which would have been an enormous disappointment from the consensus superstar centre. Exactly 12 days afterwards, Tavares is now on tempo for 35 plans and sixty seven details thanks to an eight-plans-in-5-games outburst. He could not climb back to top-20 standing devoid of greater wingers, but Tavares already appears to be like like he is prepared to have the Isles on his shoulders again.
Aleksander Barkov, C, Florida Panthers (down eleven spots to No. 99): Whilst we consider mentor Tom Rowe’s “down for the season” opinions were being taken a bit out of context, it is really nonetheless scary to hear a mentor muse on the possible for no a lot more Barkov — nor Johnathan Huberdeau — for the remainder of the campaign. Until eventually we get a thing concrete, there’s no reason to jump ship totally. That explained, the ominous experiences really should have fantasy entrepreneurs discovering solutions.
Jordan Eberle, RW, Edmonton Oilers (up sixteen spots to No. 132): This is just not all from Eberle’s four-position Saturday evening. In actuality, his Saturday evening was a solution of what Eberle has been doing currently. Eberle’s been flashing his breakaway pace again of late, whether scoring on the odds or not. Despite the fact that, for the file, he has been scoring on the odds with six details in his previous four games. Irrespective of whether this signals a significant modify to his season-prolonged pattern of fringe benefit continues to be to be found, but when Eberle is on his game, he is about as harmful as wingers appear. We consider it is really well worth using a nearer look at him for the duration of the coming days.
Evander Kane, LW, Buffalo Sabres (up 34 spots to No. 147): On the entire, Kane has of course been greater currently, but nonetheless won’t look like a fantasy stalwart on the area. Just for pleasurable, toss out his 1st 5 games of the season and look at what he is done considering the fact that finding his 1st position of the campaign on Nov. seventeen. In that time, Kane has all 12 of his plans and 19 details in thirty games. In an eighty two-game season, that is a tempo for 33 plans and fifty two details. Toss in his 103 shots and forty five penalty minutes in that span, and all of a sudden you’ve acquired on your own a tidy little fantasy participant. Kane’s obtainable in sixty % of ESPN leagues.
Defensemen mounting and slipping
P.K. Subban, D, Nashville Predators (up two spots to No. 65): Again in action on Saturday, Subban won’t quickly rocket back to his lofty standing in the rankings. We require to see a lot more shots, a lot more minutes and a lot more scoring out of Subban before he can get back into the No. 1 fantasy defensemen tier again. We anticipate him to get there, but it could get a several games right after the All-Star break and finding Roman Josi back into the lineup.
Rapid hits
Whilst Tyler Bozak certainly justifies to be picked up on his present scorching streak, he is scored on 36 % of his shots for the duration of the previous 7 games. He’ll cool off shortly, so it could already be much too late to appreciate him.
Conor Sheary‘s precise position tempo this season, with zero changes, is 61 details in 75 games. Why in the earth is he only owned in forty six % of leagues? We get it, he is a star by affiliation with Sidney Crosby. But that is not modifying.
Jason Zucker is now a in addition-27 on the season. Even if you have some players on your roster who are probably to get a lot more details than him this season, never low cost the benefit he’ll convey to that class for you.
Andrew Ladd has further time to return from an undisclosed injuries for the duration of the All-Star break. When he is back, it will be his 1st games underneath new mentor Doug Weight. There could be a mandate for Weight to consider Ladd on the top line again. With the way Tavares is enjoying currently, the effects could be distinct.
We explained before the season started out that Ivan Provorov may end up getting ranked in advance of Shayne Gostisbehere by the end of the season. Whilst we are not prepared to replicate that in the rankings right until both participant is scoring at a greater tempo, Provorov is now foremost Gostisbehere 21 details to just 19.
Patrik Laine is using get hold of at follow, and hopes to get a game in with the Jets before the All-Star break.
Leading 250 rankings
In this article are the up-to-date rest-of-season top-250 rankings of forwards, defensemen and goalies, such as situation ranks.
Take note: Sean Allen’s top 250 players are ranked for their predicted effectiveness in ESPN common leagues from this position on. ESPN common stats consist of plans, assists, energy-play details, shots on intention, in addition/minus, penalty minutes and regular time on ice for skaters, and wins, plans-from regular and preserve proportion for goalies.

Ramblings: Marchand, Kucherov, Zibanejad, Scheduling The Fantasy Playoffs, and Primary Apples (Feb 13)
Two of the top squads in the league battled on Tuesday when Calgary visited Tampa Bay. As per usual, the Kucherov-train would not be slowed. A goal and three helpers from the Russian phenom pushed the Bolts past the Flames 6-3.
Nikita Kucherov is up to 88 points in just 57 games. He’s clicking away at a 1.54 point-per-game pace. No one has achieved that feat in a full season since Joe Thornton threw down a 125 pointer in 2005-06.
  Kuch is a monster.
  **
Brayden Point chipped in with a goal and two helpers to propel his season total to 72 points in 56 games. Thank goodness Tampa is a no-tax state. That’s the only reason the Bolts will keep him at a reasonable number as an RFA this summer.
  **
Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan busted out of their mini-slump in the loss. They each had just two assists in their last five games coming into the evening.
  **
A couple of shutouts were sprinkled amongst the early games on Tuesday evening. The Stars blanked the Panthers 3-0 on the back of a two-goal performance by Tyler Seguin.
It was Anton Khudobin who stopped 30 on the evening. The Stars backup has played admirably this season and while Ben Bishop has been on the shelf of late. Bishop appears to be close as he’s been practicing hard for three straight days.
  **
Sergei Bobrovsky and Blue Jackets shutout were also on the fun end of a 3-0 victory, this time against the Caps. That’s four straight wins for the two-time Vezina winner. His owners have desperately needed this run.
As does Columbus if they hope to pull a ransom out of some team at the deadline.
CBJ continued to roll out a four-forward top power-play unit with Nick Foligno living in the net front. That has blasted Seth Jones to the second unit that is lucky to get the final 10 seconds of a man-advantage. It hasn’t slowed the 24-year-old down one iota though.
Jones tallied an even-strength assist in the victory to extend his point streak to four games and four points. He’s on pace to match his 57 points from a season ago despite seeing his PPTOI dip from three minutes a night during the first dozen games to under a minute the past month.
Jones is a horse and has proven capable of generating at five-on-five, but as Artemi Panarin's departure date looms, it’ll be difficult to bet on too many Blue Jackets that don’t see prime deployment.
On the bright side, perhaps Panarin leaving will facilitate Jones’ return to the top unit.
  **
The Canucks had hoped they wouldn’t need to give up a draft pick to patch up their current goaltending situation. After trading Anders Nilsson, and losing Mike McKenna to the wire, the team had Jacob Markstrom, Thatcher Demko and…. well, that’s it for goaltenders on NHL deals.
When Demko went down with a sprained knee, the team was forced to recall 19-year-old, Michael DiPietro from the Ottawa 67s on an emergency basis. They then decided that Markstrom needed a rest and tossed DiPietro to the wolves – in this case, the San Jose Sharks.
The 2017 Memorial Cup Champion allowed seven goals on 24 shots and was hung out to dry by his skaters on more than a few occasions.
Tuesday saw the team rectify the matter by sending a 2020 7th round pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for Marek Mazanec. The 27-year-old has been… a warm body in the AHL this year. Posting a 0.903 save percentage in 20 games.
The team is rushing to get immigration papers filed to have the former Predator in Anaheim to start on Wednesday.
  **
The Leafs defeated the listless Avalanche 5-2. Toronto scored three second period goals in just 109 seconds to bust this one open. Nazem Kadri scored two. Auston Matthews added a goal and two helpers and Freddie Andersen stopped 34 of 36.
William Nylander recorded an assist and five shots in just 13 minutes of ice.
That’s lucky number eight in the L column for the Avs. Things are spiralling quickly. They find themselves four points out of the second wildcard spot and tied with the Blackhawks.
  **
The Jets scored two third period goals to defeat the Rangers 4-3 on Tuesday. Mika Zibanejad kept his torrid goal-scoring pace with two markers in this one. He has 13 goals in his last 11 games and 25 on the season – two shy of his career-high mark set last season. The shooting percentage (15.2%) is due for a slight dip, but his metrics appear stable.
The 25-year-old looks every bit the part of number one centre on Broadway. Will people believe it heading into drafts next season? I’m guessing no.
  **
The Flyers came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Wild 5-4. That’s 10 wins in the last 12 for Philly. This time it was Anthony Stolarz getting the victory. James van Riemsdyk tallied two – including the game winner on a powerplay with less than five minutes to play.
The highlight of the night came off the stick of Claude Giroux who also added an assist in this one.
  Clap. Clap. Boom.

  **
Many leagues have seen their trade deadline come and pass. Others are gearing up for theirs this weekend. For those using two-week playoff matchups, just a single week remains before the post-season begins.
Now may be the last opportunity you have to grab a player who will pay dividends for you when the games matter most.
The first thing you need to do is to isolate players with favourable schedules. Using the Frozen Pool Scheduling Planner is your first stop. For instance, in weeks 20-25 (where most two-week playoff matchup leagues are scheduled), Florida and CBJ have the most games with 22.
A team like Calgary has a league-high 13 home games and 21 overall – 13 of which are against teams outside of the playoffs as of today. That’s a juicy schedule.
Meanwhile, Nashville only has eight home games and 18 overall. Only six of those games are against non-playoff squads.
Finding favourable schedules is crucial in targeting players for your run. Perhaps take a swing at trading Roman Josi and a juicer for Mark Giordano in a one-year.
  **
The next street I like to walk is down is primary point alley. More specifically, from the last 4-6 weeks. Finding players who have been consistently driving offence – either by finishing or being the primary contributor on the assist is a great sign for potentially continued success. Goals are easy to identify, but those first assists are often squirrelled away but are juicy little nuggets.
Dating back to January 1, here are the players with the most primary assists:
  Patrick Kane – 14
Steven Stamkos – 11
Jakub Voracek – 10
Ryan O’Reilly – 10
Nikita Kucherov – 10
Torey Krug – 9
Sidney Crosby – 9
Brent Burns – 9
Mats Zuccarello – 9
Connor McDavid – 9
The obvious stars are expected to drive play and will be difficult to obtain. But not enough ink is being spilled over players like Voracek and O’Reilly. O’Reilly has 20 points in 18 games in 2019, while Voracek extended his point streak to eight games tonight and has points in 14 of his last 15 games.
Both are lining up for teams trying to push a hot run into a playoff berth and could be very useful in a fantasy playoff match. Additionally, their cost of acquisition is likely lower than more high-profile talents.
  **
Speaking of runs in 2019, the top two scorers from this calendar season met in Boston on Tuesday evening when Patty Kane and the Blackhawks hooked up with Brad Marchand and the Bruins.
Kane has been on another planet for months. After tonight he has 32 points in 16 games in 2019. He sits alone in second for NHL scoring and is just off pace to be just the sixth player in the last 20 years to record 120-plus points. With an assist on Tuesday Kane extended his point streak to 15 games and 32 points. He’s been held off the scoresheet just nine times this season and only once in back-to-back contests.
The hype around Marchand has been a touch more muted than his peer from the Windy City. But on Tuesday it was the Bs star who stole the show. After a goal and three assists in the 6-3 win, the 30-year-old has 10 goals and 28 points in 18 games since January 1, and 69 points in 56 games overall.
Over the last three seasons, Marchand’s 240 points in 204 games trials only Connor McDavid (289), Nikita Kucherov (269), Kane (246) and Sidney Crosby (243).
What an incredible asset he’s morphed into.
  **
Dylan Strome grabbed an assist in the loss to extend his point streak to five games and 10 points. He has 17 points in his last 10 games and his 31 points in 33 games since the trade sits amongst the top-45 in the league over that span.
Imagine my surprise when a 21-year-old with exceptional pedigree blossoms in a new environment with more exposure to talented players and offensive situations.
  Shocking stuff.

Ramblings: Dahlin Flirting With History, Post-All-Star Snoozers, Laine, Bergeron, and Bob (Jan 30)
The Jets and Bruins matched up in a marquee battle on Tuesday evening. It did not disappoint. In a game that featured back and forth action and no team ever leading by more than a goal, it was Kyle Connor who played the hero.
The 21-year-old tallied two third-period goals – his 20th and 21st of the season and buried the shootout winner as the Jets took this one 4-3 on the road.
  **
Patrik Laine skated just 10:55 in the affair – the second lowest total of his career. Things are not falling into favour for the 20-year-old winger. He has just two goals and four points in his last 17 games.
His 34 points in 50 contests put him far and away on pace for the lowest statistical output of his young career, and it’s not for a lack of trying. Laine has been firing pucks on net at a career-best 3.44 per game pace. However, both his five-on-five and personal shooting percentages have taken a hit.
Many, myself included, expected the former second overall selection to be able to live in the rare air of the high-teens when it came to conversion rate. He had done so through his first 150-plus games, but this season it’s shrunk to 14.5.
That mark still represents an impressive output, but the decrease illustrates the impact on a player who has become wholly one-dimensional on the scoresheet. Laine’s inability to find an apple or two lying around the yard is concerning, but his IPP is certainly due to come up from the 54.8 mark it sits at now.
If you’re asking yourself if this is a good buy-low window, the answer is yes. Both in one-year leagues and especially keepers.
Laine’s insolation from Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele at even-strength will undoubtedly continue to impact his high-end ceiling, but I trust in skill. Laine is due for a scoring bender and his assist rate should see an uptick as well. All that adds up to a decent bet for a strong back 30.
He'll need the ice time though.
  **
Patrice Bergeron tallied two goals, six shots, a hit, a takeaway and went 65 percent in the faceoff dot. Just another night at the Garden for one of the all-time greats.
Despite missing 16 games due to injury, the 33-year-old is still on pace to record 32 goals and 84 points in just 66 games.  The goal total would match his career-high, while the 84 points would demolish his previous best (68).
Like a good wine, Bergy keeps getting better with age.
The trio of Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand came together for seven points in this one. They remain right near the top of the heap when it comes to stacking full lines. As risky as that can be in head-to-head setups, it’s not too often those three are held to a quiet night.
  **
2016 first rounder, Trent Frederic suited up in his first NHL contest for the Bruins on Tuesday. He skated just nine minutes but managed to land himself a highlight by throwing some serious hands with Brandon Tanev.

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>{/source}
This news is unlikely to affect your fantasy squad much. But it’s noteworthy that Auston Watson gets the help he needs. This comes on the heels of the Domestic Abuse charge from last summer.
It’s clear this guy needs to get his head right.
  **
Buffalo pounced on a continually-shaky, Sergei Bobrovsky on Tuesday. They scored five goals on 34 shots to hand the 30-year-old, two-time Vezina winner a 5-4 loss. Bob has had just one quality start over the past month. He’s 3-5-0 with a 0.863 save percentage over that span. He's sporting a 0.902 overall on the campaign.
After word came down that Artemi Panarin wouldn’t talk contract with CBJ until the offseason and fans in Columbus booing him when he touched the puck (yes, that really happened tonight) the trade deadline is going to be very interesting in Columbus.
General Manager, Jarmo Kekäläinen has his plate overflowing. Despite the loss, the Blue Jackets still own a precarious divisional playoff spot. But do they believe they have the horses to get this thing over the finish line?
If not, it’s hard to imagine letting either or both of Bob and Panarin to reach unrestricted free agency and risk losing them for babkas.
Speaking of Panarin, he had a regular night at the office by chipping in a couple of assists in 22:12 of ice. He has 21 points in his last 15 games while being on pace for a tidy 96 points. His 1.17 point-per-game pace somehow sits outside of the top-15 this season.
What a time to be alive!
  **
On the positive side of the ledger, Rasmus Dahlin is really coming into his own. The 18-year-old assisted on two goals Tuesday while going +4 in 17:12 of action. That brings him up to 28 points in 49 games.
At this point, his 0.57 point-per-game output is bordering on the historical. From an ALL-TIME perspective, here are the top seasons from U19 defenders:
Phil Housley 66 points in 77 games (0.86)
Bobby Orr 41 points in 61 games (0.67)
Aaron Ekblad 39 points in 81 games (0.48)
Rasmus Dahlin 29 points in 49 games (0.57)
The 2018 first overall selection is tracking very well to finish third on that list, but don’t count out a late run to overtake Orr. Dahlin has eight points in his last seven games and is looking more comfortable with each passing contest.
With his sixth multi-point outing, he joins the aforementioned, Orr and Housley as the only other defenders to reach that mark before their 19th birthdays.
Oh, the numbers this kid is going to put up over his career. Here’s hoping you took him first overall in keeper drafts this summer (thanks for the gift, Patty).
  **
Anthony Stolarz and the Flyers shutout the Rangers 1-0 in the final game of the evening. Oskar Lindblom scored the only marker just 100 seconds into the game. Assists to Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek.
Couts is riding hot these days. After an icy four points in 12 games to begin his season, the 26-year-old has been playing at a point-per-game pace. He has 11 points in his last eight games and seems primed to keep that pace up – this despite being away from Claude Giroux at even-strength for the last little while.
  **
Following up on Ian’s Sunday night dig into players who have historically clicked on impressive second halves, I’m here to bring the dread. The Debbie Downer to his Positive Pete.
I’ve combed through far too many game logs since 2014-15 to discover some performers who have left their owners wanting more at the most inopportune time of the year – fantasy playoff season. These stats are taken from post-All-Star break until the completion of the regular season.
  First up, the Flyers’ captain.
  Claude Giroux
You might think this one seems strange considering that Giroux produced a whopping 45 points in 35 games down the stretch in 2017-18. It was the final touch on a career-best 101-point campaign. It also stands alone as his finest second-half performance sprinkled amongst several disappointing springs.
The first bracket will indicate the point-per-game output post-All-Star break. The second bolded bracket will represent the year-end point-per-game total.
  2014-15: 22 points in 34 games (0.65) (0.90)
2015-16: 28 points in 34 games (0.82) (0.86)
2016-17: 18 points in 32 games (0.56) (0.71)
2017-18: 45 points in 33 games (1.36) (1.23)
Even riding a five-game win streak, the Flyers remain 10 points out of a wild-card spot and are more likely to settle at the bottom of the standings than make a late charge. Thus, it’s more than conceivable to expect Giroux to see his production slide a bit. Heading out of the break, Giroux has just six points in his previous 10 contests.
The entire Flyers' squad being on a down season will likely affect the trade value even on a stud like Giroux, but it may not hurt to test the waters. Don’t be afraid to use the Schedule Planning feature on Frozen Tools to suss out a suitable trade target that may have some better matchups during the fantasy playoff weeks.
    Tyler Seguin
Seguin has been one of the most consistent producers over the last five seasons. He’s never played below a 72-point pace while clicking above a point-per-game on three occasions. However, he tends to do most of his damage on the front-nine.
  2014-15: 25 points in 25 games (1.00) (1.08)
2015-16: 20 points in 22 games (0.91) (1.01)
2016-17: 25 points in 32 games (0.78) (0.88)
2017-18: 35 points in 32 games (1.09) (0.95)
The good news here is that the 26-year-old bucked the back-half, downward trend last season. He’s been much better since his CEO embarrassed himself as well as Seguin and Jamie Benn a month ago. Dallas continues to be in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, and they’ll need their best player rolling.
This is one of the situations where I’d bank on the player, rather than the downside.
  John Klingberg
The All-Star blueliner has been one of the few bright spots in Big D these last few seasons. He’s consistently been among the top producing defenders since entering the league in 2014-15. He’s never played below a 50-point pace and is coming off a career-high 67 points a season ago.
But like those mentioned above him, he tends to see his production dip as the season wears on.
  2014-15: 22 points in 33 games (0.66) (0.62)
2015-16: 18 points in 26 games (0.69) (0.76)
2016-17: 22 points in 32 games (0.69) (0.61)
2017-18: 19 points in 32 games (0.59) (0.82)
Similar to teammate, Seguin, Klingberg is attempting to drag his squad into a much-needed post-season berth. He’s playing very well since returning from injury and has seven points in his last six contests. Despite seeing his numbers slide in back portions during three of his four full seasons, I’d be willing to bet the 26-year-old bucks that trend in 2018-19.

The Carter Hart Era is Beginning
Welcome to the mess, Carter Hart:
The #Flyers have recalled goaltender Carter Hart from the @LVPhantoms. In addition, the club has placed goaltender Anthony Stolarz on Injured Reserve. https://t.co/P6asgsZ9Xg
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) December 17, 2018
Anthony Stolarz is out 2-4 weeks with a lower body injury, because of course he is. Alex Lyon was loaned to Lehigh Valley, so it looks like Hart and Michael Neuvirth are the active goaltenders for tomorrow.
I imagine this news will deflect from the maybe-not-impending-but-ultimately-inevitable firing of Dave Hakstol. The Flyers return home to play the Red Wings tomorrow night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Here’s what Russ says about the move, since I know very little about ice hockey:
“Carter Hart is only 20 years old. Former GM Ron Hextall, current GM Chuck Fletcher, and team president Paul Holmgren have all intimated that it’s likely too early to bring up a kid with minimal pro experience this early in his career, but here we are. The team obviously has no faith in Neuvy’s ability in net or his ability to stay healthy. Alex Lyon hasn’t established himself in the few opportunities he’s been given. Brian Elliott might very well be having season-ending surgery. Anthony Stolarz is on IR. In a way, Hextall’s failure to acquire a legitimate goalie forced his successor’s hand.
I don’t think Hart’s ready, and bringing him into this toxic environment could have catastrophic ramifications. Add in the struggles of most defensemen, and a group of forwards with a propensity to cheat for a breakaway rather than get back to check in the defensive zone, and this is a recipe for failure. On a positive note, Hart posted his first professional shutout in a 1-0 win over Hershey on December 7th. He is on a four-game winning streak (1.25 GAA, .957 save percentage) and has a 9-4-2 record as the starter. We’ll have to see if he can transcend this team’s woeful start.”
