~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     “Thanks again for agreeing to be my plus one to this thing,” Tommy said to you as you both walked from his car towards the house ahead.
     “Anytime,” you answered, “But you have to promise not to leave me.”
     You had been hesitant at first when Tommy asked you to attend a Smosh party with him, in lieu of his boyfriend who was away for the week.
     Not because you didn’t want to help Tommy out. He was your best friend and you’d known him since you were both in diapers.
     But because you didn’t no anyone here. Not a single person. And you’d be lying if you said that didn’t scare you just a little bit.
     You’d heard stories from Tommy about his coworkers of course— Amanda this and Shayne that—but that didn’t mean you actually knew any of them.
     “Are you kidding?” Tommy let out a laugh, “Leave you? And have to socialize with people alone? I think not.”
     That might have been why you were such good friends.
     You smiled at him as you drew closer to the home, a sign that read ‘Welcome, Smosh’ greeting you at the entryway.
     According to Tommy, this party was thrown to celebrate Ian and Anthony’s ownership of Smosh. You hoped you dressed right for that occasion. You weren’t sure what outfits said congratulations YouTuber businessmen!
      Tommy knocked on the door and the man who must’ve been Ian—he was hosting the event—answered.
      “Hey, Tommy! Glad you could make it,” he said.
      “As if I would miss a chance to see if Anthony was actually real,” Tommy joked.
     “Heard that,” the man who you guessed was Anthony peeked out from behind Ian, stirring a drink.
     “He’s not a myth!” Tommy exclaimed.
     You cleared your throat not-so-subtly.
     “Right,” Tommy started, “Ian, Anthony, this is my friend (Y/n).”
     You shook both of their hands in turn. “It’s nice to meet you. Congratulations on the whole buying Smosh thing.”
     “Wait, we bought Smosh?” Ian joked, “Anthony, can I talk to you for a minute?”
     “Wasn’t me,” Anthony teased, “I thought you must’ve.”
     You decided you liked both of them as Tommy led you through the doorway.
      You were met with a large, spacious living room with decorations and tables dedicated to drinks and refreshments.
     You were surprised to see that you were some of the first people to arrived. You’d figured you’d be somewhat late—because Tommy had spent an hour making you rate each of his outfit options before finally selecting one.
     Then again, you weren’t exactly surprised you were early—Tommy’s driving still scared you a little bit, but, hey, at least you got places quicker.
     “Tommy!” You heard a voice call, and you turned to find a woman standing by the refreshment table and waving your friend over.
     “Hey Angela,” he called back, walking towards her. You followed.
     “Angela,” Tommy started, “This is—”
     “(Y/n)?” She interrupted. “Yeah, seen her on your instagram. Do you know if there’s gonna be a cake?”
     “Stalker,” Tommy coughed into his hand and you just laughed.
     At least someone here knew who you were.
      “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Angela,” you told her.
      “Ditto,” she shot back. “Nice shirt.”
      “Thanks,” you beamed. Maybe your outfit choice had been a win after all.
      “Hey, are you good if I see if there’s a little boys room around here?” Tommy asked you. “I’ll just be a minute.”
      “Go for it,” you told him, “Have fun.”
      “I’ll try,” he said, walking down the hall.
      You were left with Angela. She was currently eating an olive off of a stick. You were pretty sure those were supposed to go in drinks, but who were you to stop her fun.
     You turned your attention to the front door where more people were starting to file in now.
     “So,” Angela began, “You wanna see if there’s a cake here?”
     But you were distracted by the man who had just entered the house.
     He was wearing a blue-and-white striped button down tucked into dark jeans, a black blazer overtop it. You watched as he greeted the hosts and began talking to other partygoers.
     “Hey,” you asked Angela, “Who’s that?”
     You tried to point out the man as discreetly as you could.
     “Spencer?” She said loudly. You winced, glad the party had gotten louder. “What about him? You know him?”
     “No, I just—He’s cute,” you confessed, blushing.
     She smiled knowingly. “Oh, got it. Want me to call him over here? Spencer!”
     “No!” You interrupted her. “No, don’t do that.”
     But it was too late. The man—Spencer—must've heard Angela, because he smiled and waved before heading in your direction.
     “Hey Ange, what’s up?” He asked her.
     “Nothing much,” she rocked back and forth on her feet. “Hey! Have you met (Y/n)?”
     Spencer turned to you, his gaze landing on first your face and then your outfit and then back to your face.
     You willed yourself not to blush. He was even more attractive up close and the way his eyes bore into yours didn’t exactly do anything to make him less appealing.
     “It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance,” Spencer said, “Do you work at Smosh?”
     “No,” you answered, “I’m just a plus one.”
      “I knew I would’ve remembered you,” he said, picking up on of Angela’s olives.
      Now you could do nothing to stop the heat rushing to your cheeks.
     “I—” you got out, “I’m just here with Tommy.”
     “What about me?” Tommy asked, coming up behind you. “Oh, hey Spencer.”
     “Sup man,” Spencer addressed Tommy. “I was just meeting your girlfriend.”
     Angela snorted.
     “Not my girlfriend,” Tommy rolled his eyes at Spencer.
     “His loss,” Spencer turned to you, mock whispering, “You could do better anyway.”
     “I’m going to pretend that wasn’t offensive,” Tommy said, picking up one of Angela’s olives before gagging and spitting it out.
     “I forgot I hate olives,” he said through coughs.
     “Well,” Spencer said, “I can’t be near someone with such bad taste in—vegetables? fruits? whatever the hell olives are—so I’m going to bounce. It was nice meeting you (Y/n). Congratulations on the breakup.”
     Spencer gestured between you and Tommy before walking away. You let out a breath.
     “Ok, is it just me or was he totally flirting with you?” Angela whispered.
     “What?” You raised an eyebrow.
     “That was flirting if I’ve ever seen it. Tommy, back me up.”
     “As far as straight people flirting goes…yeah. I’d say he was,” Tommy said, considering.
     You blushed again. Had he been flirting with you? He had seemed…friendly, at least. You were already sad that he was gone. You liked his quick wit and easy conversation skills.
     And the whole finding him really attractive thing didn’t hurt.
     “Is it warm in here or is it just me?” You asked them.
     “I think it’s Spencer,” Angela sing-songed.
     “Very funny,” you crossed your arms. “But actually, I think I’m going to see if there’s a coat closet or something.”
     You took off your jacket and headed down the hall. You stopped at the first door you found—it looked closet-like enough.
     Judging from the row of sweaters and coats that greeted you, your guess had been correct.
     You began to hang your jacket, stopping when you spotted the blazer Spencer had been wearing.
     You imagined what it would be like to wear it. Not now, of course—you swore it was like a hundred degrees in there—but you pictured yourself as Spencer’s girlfriend, sharing clothes, his scent engulfing you.
     You snapped yourself out of your fantasy. You had just met this man. You hardly knew him.
     You quickly hung up your coat, closing the door and taking a minute to collect yourself before heading back out into the party.
     Definitely not thinking about seeing Spencer again.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     You had come to the conclusion that a small army must’ve arrived in the short time it took you to discard your layers.
     Apparently it was the style to arrive fashionably late, because the party had almost doubled.
     Someone had begun blasting music and it was now so crowded that you couldn’t find Tommy amongst the partygoers.
     “(Y/n)!” You heard someone call.
     After a few seconds of scanning the room, you found Angela waving her arms to get your attention.
     You squeezed through people to get to her.
     “Are you looking for Tommy?” She had to yell to be heard over the music and chatter.
     “Yes!” You shouted back.
     “I think I saw him over by the appetizers! Don’t bother looking for a cake though, there isn’t a single slice in this place!” She pointed in the direction she was indicating and you began to make your way over there, bumping into people on your way.
      You had just spotted Tommy a few yards away when you saw a flash of movement and suddenly red liquid dripped down your front.
     You looked up in confusion to find Spencer directly in front of you, a look of shock on his face as he tried to figure out how he had been pushed forwards.
     “My bad,” he shouted, looking down at the now-mostly-empty cup in his hand. “Don’t suppose we could blame this on whoever shoved me?”
     You looked down at the dark liquid already forming stains on your light blue top, the fabric clinging to your body.
     You shrugged. “What they don’t know can’t hurt them. I’ll transfer my grudge—and the 40 dollars this shirt cost—to whoever shoved you.”
     Spencer smiled. “Phew. Glad we got that figured out—I almost had to pay 40 bucks for a shirt.”
     “Bold for someone who technically still owes me,” you put your hands on your hips.
     “Sorry,” he put his hands in his pockets, looking at the ground. “Believe it or not I’ve  actually never spilled punch on a pretty girl before, so I’m kinda playing this by ear.”
     You tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, feeling the room get warmer at his use of the word ‘pretty’.
     “I should probably go change out of this,” you gestured to the material hugging your torso. “Good thing I brought a jacket.”
     “I’d feel like a jerk if I didn’t offer to come with you,” he said.
     “Oh, um, thanks for the offer but—”
     “No, I insist,” Spencer cut you off, leaning closer and saying quieter, “Don’t tell anyone, but in not a huge party person.”
     “Neither am I,” you confided back. “After you.”
     You filed in behind Spencer as you made your way to the hall. It got gradually quieter as you walked farther and farther away from the center of the gathering.
     You became aware of the fact that you and Spencer were going somewhere together. Alone.
     Your pulse picked up and you told yourself the dampness though felt was just the punch soaking through your shirt.
     Once you reached the closet, Spencer hung back and let you open the door.
     “How many coats can one party have,” Spencer eyed the row, shaking his head.
     “Don’t act like you didn’t contribute,” you said, looking for your jean jacket.
     “Technically—” He stopped abruptly, looking at you with a smirk. “How did you know I have a jacket in here? Creep.”
     You blushed for the millionth time that night. You’d forgotten when you said it that he didn’t exactly know you’d been eyeing his coat earlier.
     “More like observant. You were wearing it when Angela introduced us,” you covered.
     “But you don’t know I put it in here,” he raised an eyebrow.
     “Where else would you have put it? The bathroom?”
     “This coming from the girl wearing punch for a shirt,” Spencer gestured to your top.
     “And who’s fault is that?”
     “Random party-shover, remember? I thought we agreed that’s where the fault lies.”
     “How could I forget,” you stepped into the small room, still digging for your jacket. Was it possible someone had moved it in the short time you’d left it alone?
     “Wow, it’s so much quieter in here,” you said, ducking underneath the long shawls and sport coats.
     Spencer stepped in with you, and you realized how close you were to him.
     “Watch this,” he said, shutting the door  and drowning out all noise.
     It was calming, the break from the loud chaos. Unfortunately, you couldn’t fully enjoy the calm because the whole being in a tiny closet with Spencer thing didn’t exactly put your nerves at ease.
     You turned around, still searching for your new shirt.
     “Found it,” Spencer said, and you turned to find him standing next to you and skimming through the rack.
     “My jacket?”
     “No, the one I’m going to take home!” He pulled out a long, orange-and-purple shawl that looked like something your great-aunt would have worn.
     “Good call, brings out your eyes,” you teased. “Oh, here’s my coat!”
     You pulled it off the hanger, pausing.
     “Spencer?”
     “Yeah?”
     “I kind of need to change,” you said.
     “Oh, right,” he looked vaguely embarrassed. “I’ll just—”
     He tried to turn around but got caught in the slew of coats. You giggled as a large sleeve landed on his head.
     “New plan,” he finished, closing his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest. “My lids are sealed.”
     You smiled, even though he couldn’t actually see you, pulling your shirt off and dropping it to the ground.
     It was odd, changing in front of him. Even though you knew his eyes were closed, it still felt like he was watching you and you hurried to put the jacket on, buttoning it up quickly.
     You looked at Spencer, who was rocking back and forth on his heels. He looked so vulnerable and respectful—and mildly uncomfortable.
     Even though you hardly knew him, it felt like you had been acquainted longer. You couldn't attempt to deny your attraction to him. Just in the couple hours you had known him, you already thought he was kind and funny and charming and—
     You watched him standing there, eyes still closed. You took a step closer to him, almost involuntarily.
     “(Y/n)? Are you trying on all the coats?” His voice brought you back to reality.
     “Just the old lady shawl,” you said.
     “Well, in that case, you have to let me open my eyes.”
     “I already took it off, you’re too late,” you teased. “It was too sexy to be seen by any eyes other than my own.”
     Spencer ran his tongue over his bottom lip. You watched his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed.
     “That I believe,” he almost whispered.
     You were silent for a moment, before taking another small step towards Spencer.
     You took a deep breath.
     “(Y/n)? Can I open my eyes now?”
     You didn’t answer him, closing the distance between you until you were inches apart.
     You took in his features and before you could talk yourself out of it you leaned towards him and placed your lips on his. You felt him tense up.
     “You can open them now,” you whispered.
     Spencer’s stunned expression lasted only a moment before a heat filled his eyes and suddenly he was kissing you back.
     He grabbed your waist with one hand, the other going to rest in your hair as he kissed you harder.
     You wrapped your arms around his neck as your back found the wall, engulfing you in the sea of coats.
     “God, (Y/n),” Spencer mumbled against your lips.
     You gripped him harder. This moment was everything you imagined it would be. This was so much better than the party.
     You felt like you could do this for the rest of the night. Because, damn Spencer was a good kisser.
     You pressed up against him, deepening the kiss as your nails dug into his shoulder.
     Neither one of you noticed the closet door opening.
     “(Y/n) was right, it is hot in here,” a voice was saying, but you and Spencer were too wrapped up in each other to notice.
     “They can afford an indoor fountain but not a air cond—”
     You heard a cry of surprise as the closet door opened fully. You and Spencer pulled apart, gasping as you looked up at Tommy, who looked just as horrified to see you as you were to see him.
     “Well,” Tommy started, “I was just saying how hot it was out there, but it seems it’s much hotter in here.”
     You and Spencer looked at each other, grinning sheepishly. You were still breathless. You noticed you were standing on a coat that must’ve been knocked from its hanger.
     “It’s kind of a long story,” you started.
     “Basically there’s some guy out there attacking people with punch,” Spencer finished, looking at you, eyes sparkling.
     “I’ll be on the lookout,” Tommy said, a confused look on his features.
     You couldn’t stop smiling at Spencer.
     “Well,” Tommy clapped his hands together, “I guess I’ll—leave you to it. Have fun.”
     “And tell me all about it later,” he mock-whispered to you.
     He started to shut the closet door before turning around.
     “Oh and (Y/n)?”
     “Yeah?”
     “Can you toss me my coat?” He gestured to the one that was currently under your foot. You hadn’t even recognized it as his in the dim lighting of the room.
     That, and you’d been a bit distracted. Your heart leapt just thinking about what Tommy had interrupted. Your hand found Spencer’s in the dark
     “I thought you said it was hot out there?” You asked, throwing his sweater to him.
     “It is,” he sighed, “But my keys are in the pocket.”
     You raised an eyebrow.
     “Angela and I are going to go buy a cake.”
     “Does that woman think of anything else?” You laughed
     “Pick us up some olives,” Spencer threw in, blinking up at him.
     “Why not,” Tommy shrugged, “let’s hit all the stores in California.”
     “You sure you won’t miss the party?” You asked him.
     “Nah, I was gonna bounce anyway. I accidentally shoved some guy pretty hard in the back earlier, but I don’t think he knows it was me. I don’t want to test my luck.”
Six months later
It had been six months of bliss, and you were happy to report to anyone who asked that there was no end in sight. You and Spencer weren’t going to have a ‘honeymoon phase’, because you were so blatantly in love with each other it just wasn’t going to end. There was no getting complacent, no getting bored. You loved it.
However, you both agreed that it was time to start being little shits on camera and on social media. Ian and Anthony didn’t care, because realistically what you did on social media was never a big deal to them. You were both freelancing anyway, technically speaking. On camera, they just asked that you didn’t rile the fans up too, too much.
Amanda was on vacation, and Shayne asked if you both wanted to be the special guests on an upcoming Smosh Mouth while she was out. This was the perfect start to your plan.
“Hello, I’m Shayne and welcome back to Smosh Mouth. Today I have two of the most troublesome Smosh members with me, since Amanda is still on vacation. How are you doing today, guys?” Shayne introduced the both of you.
“Troublesome? I don’t know about all that, Shayne. I’m doing good, though! How are you, Shayne?” You started.
“Yeah –” Spencer began, but you cut him off.
“No, I didn’t ask you, I asked Shayne. You can wait your turn, Spence.” Your feet were touching under the table, a silent game of footsie like you were in middle school again. And if it was making your heart and stomach do flips so loudly you thought it would catch on the mic, that’s for you to know and the fans to eventually find out.
“Damn, Y/N,” Shayne said between laughs. Spencer was playing along with your bit and waiting his turn, so Shayne continued on. “I’m doing pretty good today, Y/N. I must say, you’ve trained Spencer so well. He never listens when we tell him to shut up.”
“Hey!” Spencer erupted into laughter, so of course you followed.
“He’s a good boy, isn’t he?” You said, ruffling his hair and making it arguably sexier.
“Don’t.” He choked out, but he was still playing footsie with you. You still knew you were getting in trouble for that one later.
“Okay, so, how are you, Spinner?” You asked, head cocked to the side.
He was blushing beautifully, and you really, really hoped that was picking up on camera. You loved making him blush, but seeing it on camera always made it even better. You might even have a few screen recordings in your hidden folder of times you made him blush on set. But he doesn’t need to know that. (He has a similar folder, but not even hidden. You’ve seen it several times. It has over 100 clips in it.)
“Well, I’m –” You cut him off again.
“Oh, Shayne, you said you wanted to do album tier lists today, right?”
“Y/N!” Spencer whined, not entirely on purpose.
“Yeah?”
“Can I talk please?” He asked, left hand reaching for your right under the table, his way of silently asking you to pull back.
“Sure, Spin. Go off, king, speak your truth.” You smiled widely at him, knowing what he was going to say.
He rolled his eyes at you, lovingly, and let your hand go so he could gesture while he spoke. “Anyway! I’m doing good today too, Shayne. I got some pretty sick news this weekend.”
You played up your surprise for the camera. Eyes wide, you asked, “Oh?”
Shayne also knew, because of course he did, but you let him ask anyway, “Yeah? What’s up, man?”
“I finally found a bigger apartment and I’ll be moving in in about a month,” Spencer started, “It’s closer to the office and right around the corner from one of my favorite coffee shops. I’m pretty stoked, honestly.”
That was your favorite coffee shop first, but now he loved it just as much as you did. Mainly because you took him there on one of your first dates, and now he insisted on getting coffee there at least once a week.
In his defense, their lattes were incredible. And their cinnamon buns.
“Oh, sick, dude! More room for your cats, too.” Shayne knew that you were also moving in, hence the ‘bigger apartment’, but you and Spencer both agreed that should be kept under wraps for now. You were giving the fans little crumbs of the gigantic sourdough loaf that was your love.
“Yeah, they’re more excited than I am! Oh, ouch,” Spencer yelped at the end, and forced himself to cover up the fact that you had just playfully kicked his shin. Little shit, I didn’t even kick him that hard.
“Sorry, I kicked the table by accident, which is genuinely the first time that has ever happened.”
Shayne was doing his best to hide his giggles, but he was failing massively. “How many times have you sat at this table, Spencer? That’s crazy, I have never done that.”
You were so thankful Shayne loves to ‘yes, and’ shit because he was making this so much easier. And funnier.
Spencer tried to glare at him, but he was laughing too, so he looked entirely unserious. “I do not know how I managed to do that, to be quite honest.”
“Album tier list though?” You asked, excited to talk about music.
You and Spencer had extremely similar tastes, but Shayne was still ‘discovering music’ so he didn’t know a few of the albums you mentioned. Spencer agreed with all of your choices but one. You ranked the Blue Album by Weezer at an A tier instead of an S (which was done simply to rile him up, and it worked).
After you had all gone through your little TierMaker lists and agreed upon the ending rankings (yes, you moved the Blue Album to S), Spencer decided to throw a wrench in everyone’s plans.
“Oh, Peach, when we get back to the apartment we have to call maintenance again,” He said casually, while you were supposed to be getting ready for the next segment. “Shit, can you make sure someone cuts that?” He turned to Alex, who gave back a thumbs up.
“Wait, no, keep it in. Cut this though,” you laughed, deciding to play into it, “If we keep it in, they’ll all assume we have a place together. Then we can go to Twitter to ‘clarify’ that I was just coming to your place to work on a Games video. Give them crumbs, yes, but we can maybe drop a crouton here and there.” You smiled, proud of your improv skills showing their face.
“You two are diabolical, the actual reveal is going to be April First all over again,” Shayne said, a genuine smile on his face.
You returned it tenfold, so lucky to have such loving and supportive coworkers who doubled as friends. “I don’t think we will ever reach April First heights, but I appreciate the enthusiasm.”
Spencer sat up, suddenly locked in, “Wait, Alex?”
“Yeah?” They called from behind the monitors.
“Cut that, but keep the footage. We can use it later. You can just send it to me after?”
“I’ll let Rock know!” Alex replied, excitement in their voice.
“Demons, both of you!” Shayne was in a fit of laughter, again. It felt so good being able to make your friends smile so easily.
//
The next week, the Smosh Mouth episode drops. Normally there’s a two-to-three week turnaround for the SmoshCast videos, but since you and Spencer had begun dropping hints in videos, the viewership on videos with both of you in it had skyrocketed. You were both thoroughly surprised (and pleased) that your plan was going so well.
You both had a notes app check-list in your phone of silly bits to pull. So far, you had checked off: hugging more than three times in one video (Challenge Pit); you blowing Spencer a kiss (TNTL); Spencer blowing you a kiss (background of a Bit City ad-sketch); the entire Smosh Mouth episode, basically; shadow boxing, then pretending you were going to make out (Bit City); more romantic compliments, even more romantic bullying (Dread, Smosh Mouth, Culinary Crimes).
Next up, a Twitter crumb.
Once the link to the episode was tweeted, Spencer quote tweeted it: “y/n thinks their the coolest person ever”
He deleted, then tried again: “y/n thinks they're the coolest person ever”
And then, you simply tweeted a screenshot of the lyrics to Slim Pickins by Sabrina Carpenter: “This boy doesn't even know the difference between there, their, and they are.”
This was perfect, because in a matter of moments everyone was talking about the next line of that song. “Yet he’s naked in my room.”
//
After the Twitter Crumb, you both decided to slow down on the hints. This backfired, however, when everyone then thought you were fighting. You went back to being mostly normal, which was still physical and affectionate, but now the fans were so used to the new levels of it that they went 0 to 60 on “oh my god are y/n and spencer fighting what happened btwn them :(“
Angela stopped you at lunch to let you know. You were halfway through a burrito bowl, sad to have to stop. “Hey, Y/N? Have you looked at the comments on videos lately?”
You wiped your mouth and made sure you were finished chewing before responding, which took longer than you wanted it to. You had just taken a fairly large bite when she rounded the corner. “No, why? Is everything okay?”
“Well, everyone thinks you and Spence are fighting,” she snickered, sitting down and taking a sip of her drink.
“Fighting? Why, because I’m not calling him a good boy on camera anymore?” You laughed, then lowered your voice, “He won't let me anyway, he said he got ‘dangerously’ hard.”
Angela choked a bit at that, fully used to you and Spencer being overly vulgar, but not in regards to each other.
“Oh! Okay! Well, I’m gonna go find Chanse so I can throw up with him about that! Bye!” And she was gone.
“It’s the truth,” you whispered to no one, before getting back to your food.
//
After a month of going back to ‘normal’ you decided to stop torturing everyone. You decided since the last Sabrina stunt sent fans into a tizzy, you posted a photo of you and Spencer building legos together. Then two hours later, you posted ‘Juno’ to your story, specifically the part where she sings “Adore me / hold me and explore me / I’m so fucking horny / Tell me I’m the only, only, only, only one”.
Yeah, that did the trick. Ian and Anthony did give you a light reprimanding for that one, considering the firestorm that happened on Twitter, Reddit, and your Instagram comments. Whoops?
You decided to talk to Spencer afterwards, to see what his timeline on this was. If you were being honest, you were ready to kill the charade at this point. For one thing, your one year anniversary was five months away, and you weren’t sure you could even last that long. But also, while Spencer was definitely enjoying the game you two had built, he had never wanted to hide you. And maybe that was an enticing concept.
“Hey, baby?” You called, tapping your boyfriend on the shoulder.
“Hey, honey, what's up?” He slid his headphones off and grabbed your hand. Some things never change, huh?
You kissed his forehead, grabbing a chair and sitting with him. “I was wondering. It’s still a little far away, if I’m being honest, but our one year anniversary is soon. Did you want to maybe do the reveal that day?”
He was blushing again, and you would never get tired of that. He was still blushing at you like he was two, four, six, eight years ago. “I think I’d like that.”
“Okay! I love you so much, Spence.”
“I love you more, Peach.”
//
Five months later, your one year anniversary ♡
Spencer had had Ian pull some strings and rent out Buca Di Beppo for your anniversary. Normally, Smosh rented one out for VidCon, but they were doing Smosh Summer Games again this year, and decided to not do VidCon this time around. So they rented it out just for you and Spencer.
Your life had changed so much over the course of a year, and you couldn’t be more grateful for it all. You were in such a better place now than you were then. In so many ways, financially, mentally, physically, romantically, sexually.
Spencer was the best partner you had ever had, by a fucking long shot. Honestly, in your youth you picked pretty bad ones. Repeatedly. You only had one serious relationship as an adult, and you were locked in for good on your second one. Well, in your opinion, you were locked in for good.
Spencer hadn’t proposed yet, which was fine. Your birthday was coming up, so you were really hoping he would pop the question then. Whenever you ranted to Ang about this, she would promptly remind you how young your actual relationship is. Amanda, however, encouraged you fully. She had always wanted you two to date, so you getting married would send her into orbit.
Arasha also wanted him to ask you. She had actually started pestering you about your dream ring, your ring size, along with your dream venue and outfit. Chanse had taken you to brunch a few times to ask how the “Plan with a Capital P” was going, because he refused to be serious about it. You kind of liked that, though, because it took some pressure off.
Because you did want it. Badly. Angela, Tommy, and Damien thought you should wait. Chanse, Amanda, and Arasha thought it was time. Courtney and Shayne refused to take sides, same with Ian and Anthony. Typical couples.
The crew had also decided not to weigh in, minus Erin, Kiana, and Alex. Who were all on your side, for the record.
And what side was Spencer on?
Well, he wasn't on anyone’s side.
He was on one knee, in Buca di Beppo of all places, proposing to you.
And you fucking loved it.
//
“What, did you seriously expect us to have a serious proposal? We’re too funny for boring proposals.”
You were doing a Q&A Smosh Mouth episode about your relationship. After he proposed, and got some gorgeous candids taken by Courtney, you both hard launched on Instagram (and Twitter, and Reddit, and Tumblr. So on and so forth. It really was April First again.)
“Yeah, but Buca?” Shayne was laughing his ass off again, as he did every time either of you told the story to someone. “I mean, it’s a sacred place to us here at Smosh. I get it, I do. It’s just so fucking funny.” Back to his laughter fit.
“I mean, I still remember the first Buca trip I went on with Smosh. I actually sat next to Spence, and I didn't like the pasta I ordered. He gave me his.” You smiled fondly to yourself, feeling sentimental. It was one of your favorite memories. “It’s one of the first times I remember thinking, like, fuck, I like this dude a whole lot. And he’s my best friend. And, like, out of my league.”
“Whoa, what?” Spencer asked, eyes wide. “Me?”
“Yeah?” You blinked at him, confused.
“No, dude, you're way out of my league, what the fuck are you talking about? Shayne, what the fuck is Y/N talking about?”
Shayne threw his hands up in surrender, entirely not speaking on this.
“Are we having our first fight on Smosh Mouth right now?” Spencer asked, rubbing his thumb on your hand, which had been laced with his under the table the whole time. He was making a joke, and wanted to make sure you knew he wasn't serious. What a fucking angel.
“It seems so because I think you were out of my league, one hundred percent. But let’s agree to disagree and move on, okay?” You decided not to really ‘yes, and’ that one.
Shayne jumped in, eager to change the topic, even though he knows you two are joking. “Well, the reactions have been stellar. You really pulled it off so well, especially by posting that ‘blooper reel’ of all the times you both messed up on camera!”
You had secretly been a little worried people would be upset. Amanda and Angela assured you anyone who was upset wasn't a real fan. Which was fair.
Speaking of Angela, you came to find out in the following month that everyone ‘taking sides’ was actually just moving parts in a huge Rube Goldberg machine of a proposal plan by Spencer.
Your fiancé. God, it was still crazy to think about.
But while you ran around trying to get people on your side, everyone had already been given guidelines by Spencer on how to react. And Arasha and Angela were his number one operatives.
Angela, your best friend, seemingly not on your side about wanting to get married, planting a seed of doubt in your mind.
(Spencer apologized for the mind games that everyone played, but it all ended so perfectly that you couldn’t stay mad at anyone. Angela would be walking you down the aisle.)
Arasha, your number one wedding supporter, asking wedding-related questions, then feeding the info back to Spencer.
(He had your dream ring handcrafted. Your dream venue was already booked. You weren’t going to say no, anyway. Arasha was helping with planning.)
Damien and Tommy siding with Angela. Damien, a romantic at heart. And Tommy, one of Spencer’s closest friends.
(Damien was in charge of misdirecting you around the office, Tommy is going to be the officiant at your wedding.)
Amanda and Chanse siding with you. Encouraging you that everything was going to be okay, whether he proposed or not.
(Amanda is the ringbearer, Chanse is in charge of music, thank god.)
Courtney, Shayne, Ian, and Anthony not taking sides at all, showing you partners shouldn't take sides.
(And they did. And do. And so do you. But they did remind you to be more mature about it.)
You were marrying Spencer. Your Spencer. Spinner. Spence. Fucking Charles. After nearly ten years, you were finally marrying the dude you fell for the moment you met his eyes in that office lobby. When he shook your hand, there were sparks. You both knew from that moment it was over.
And yet it still took so long. And even despite that, you’d do it all again, because it leads to Spencer. The road might have been bumpy, and the weather wasn't always sunny, and you might have broken down a few times along the way, but it led to Spencer. And you’d drive, run, walk, skip, hop on one leg the whole way down that road, as long as he was on the other side.
And now, he would be.
Always, and forever.
Rushing towards the kitchen you waved hello to Ian and Anthony quickly before standing in line for a cup of coffee, staring at your phone as you checked your messages a tap on your shoulder had you looking up to see Spencer, with multiple coffee's in hand.
"Pour Moi?" you joked in a poor French accent, raising a brow. "Qui, c'est pour toi," Spencer replied in equally broken French, handing you the coffee before moving to an open table with your stocked plates. "How are you finding things in front of camera?" Spencer asked after swallowing down a bite as you held up your hand to swallow and replied, "Its... different." Struggling to find the right expression.
"Like I mean, it's fun but i'm nervous people won't like me in the video whenever this'll come out. My character kinda is... well a bit naïve in some ways and what if they-"
Spencer reached over the table, grabbing your hand as your sentence gradually slowed to a halt. "I think people are going to love your character and not to brag or anything but our dynamic? perfect concept and execution and something they have not really seen a lot of before. And hell, if they hate it then they hate it but you are having fun right?"
"Yes, a load of fun actually," you smile, nodding your head along to his words, your heart having yet to slow as he gives your hand once last squeeze, "good, that's all that matters," before letting go.
─────── · ·
Back in front of the cameras and bright lights, you turned surprised to see Shayne sitting back across from you as you took to your seats. "And here I was thinking you were dead as dust?" you commented with a sarcastic tone, squinting your eyes as you examined Shaynes outfit yet finding no clues.
"Save it for when the cameras start rolling, I have something good planned," he replies before going to find Courtney so that the shoot can start. "Cast to positions," Alex calls from behind a monitor, observing the various camera angels for any faults before counting you all in for an introduction that Spencer takes.
"Hello and welcome back to Smosh Dread or Smosh Verses Zombies, I don't know what title we are calling this just yet. And here I am joined by both some familiar faces..." his arm drapes across the back of your chair with a smug expression and you can't help but stare at the reflection in his glasses and the freckles underneath his eye- "and a new one as well it seems..."
"Whassap???" Shayne strains his voice, it cracking yet sounding like he is higher than any plane in the sky. "My names Ronnie and I-ah, I don't actually remember why the fuck i'm here but this is chill, i guess-"
"We almost got mauled by zombies and took you off the side of the street just in time and all you have to say about this all is that its chill?" Courtney asks, tone raising to an accusatory one as she places her hands on her hips, eyebrows furrowed. "Uhhh, well... yeahhh, I guess?"
"You guess?"
"Yeah... I gue-"
"Alrightly!" you clap your hands bringing everyones eyes to you, "I say we keep heading towards the bay, thats were they are housing the cure and everyone else thats safe... right?" You look into everyones eyes at the table before holding Spencer- Brody's gaze.
"Sounds right to me babe, now lets get our asses back into the truck and make a move," Spencer rallies, sending you a wink that has your cheeks warming, your hands rushing to cover them in time as his hand falls to your shoulder, rubbing small circles of encouragement for you to show your face once again. "Wait... what direction are we heading in again, babe?"
And all romance was lost once more, shooting your head up to glare at your... boyfriend? Are we canonically dating now, or? You shake your head to get rid of the thoughts, already forgetting the context of the situation you are in as Brody groans beside you. "I'm just double checking, sheesh. No need to get all moody on me-"
"You like me when I'm moody, it's why we got together in the first place," you retort with a bite, you both seemingly have forgotten the other two players and Dungeon Master at the table as they all look back and fourth between one another, allowing the scene to play out in front of them live. "You're right," Brody said back, tone noticeably a lot softer and so was your gaze.
"This is like the first time you have agreed with me openly!" you announce, eyes pressing into a toothy grin watching his eyes roll and cheeks paint themselves pink as well. What I wouldn't give to kiss you on the cheek right now, is all you can think to yourself, mindlessly nodding along to what George Primavera, the Dungeon Master had been saying as you sneak looks at Spencer- Brody.
And seemingly knowing what you were thinking in that exact moment, your eyes meet before Spencers are dropping to your lips with a shake of his head that has you pinching yourself.
─────── · ·
The game continues and so does your's and Spencers small touches that have you questioning when the acting stopped, or at least on your behalf as you allow your cheeks to consistently warm and your head to drop to his shoulder as you observed Courtney pull a brick from the tower. Your hand gripping his fore arm anxiously, his fingertips from his other hand grazing the back of your hand gently.
There is no way he is this good, right? You question to yourself, breath hitching as Spencers hand moves to interlace with your own as the tower shakes you press something up into the sleeve of Brody's shirt. "Please, be careful!" you call out, eyes blinking rapidly as you will yourself to tears.
"Zombies are banging on the door, if you do not successfully pull in the next 10 seconds Savanah, I will be counting it as an automatic loss," George announces and you choke back a sob. "Savanah, please, I believe in you!"
"Shut up babe, let her focus. She dosen't need to hear you yelling her name but you can scream-" you place your hand overtop of Brodys mouth with a glare before he kisses the inside of your hand that has you shaking the "germs" away with mock disgust.
Once Savanah had successfully pulled to all of the tables cheers you turned to Spencer as Savanah and Ronnie held their own conversation, you both trying to find the next best past forwards as the roads were completely ruined up ahead.
"I thought you were not into all the physical lovey-dovey stuff, Brody?" you teased, interlacing your fingers will fighting off a school-girl like giggle that had your company gagging obnoxiously from across the table as you both moved to flip them the bird.
"Eh, erm-" Brody struggled for words, starting to pull away from your touch, starting to feel small before you yanked him closer than before, your noses brushing up against one another. Spencers mouth proceeds to open and close like a fish out of water as you cup his cheek, enjoying the corse texture of his stubble against your palm.
"I-uh, only like it with you I guess, and only you..." Brody mumbles the end of his sentence, seemingly unsure of himself as he does his best to look anywhere but your eyes, catching your lips consistently.
"Sorry, I didn't manage that last part, what did you say about me in particular?" you push that bit forward, loving the way his glasses start to tip forwards, the perfect blend of hazel, green, and blue mixing into your own.
"Can we drop this, please?" Brody asks, feeling himself begin to sweat more as he forces his eyes closed, feeling the stares from everyone in the room including your own. "Okay," you add sweetly and in an understanding tone, dropping the questioning and his face before taking back to the game.
"I've got it!" Savanah then quickly details the rest of plan and to the Dungeon Masters approval, you all are making your way to the docks.
─────── · ·
Once arriving at the docks a small boat rocks back and fourth, unsteady in the rigid waters as rain splatters against your cheeks, the slight acidity of the water burning your skin as you press the neckline of your jacket closer to your face. Spencer moves his baseball cap to your head as you smile in thanks before taking his hand and guiding yourself onto the abandoned boat.
"We sure this won't sink?" you question, knees suddenly feeling weak as Brody fixes his hair out of his face and the boat starts to rock more violently against the dock, water splashing up and inside.
"That's why we have you going on first-"
"Oh wow, thanks honey, really feeling the love right now," you say back, not bothering to tone down your irritation as Brody steps in sitting across from you and by one of the paddles, Samantha beside him taking the other and Ronnie joining you by your side.
"Look, she's-a-holdin'" Ronnie comments, tipping up a fictional drink to Spencer before calling out random commands. "Mush, mush, brush, brush, uh? push push- wait not. ROW motherfuckers ROW!" Ronnie begins to stand with newfound enthusiasm before you are reaching over the table and pressing his shoulders down and back into his seat.
─────── · ·
A few life or death experiences later as Brody solved them all with you a step protectively behind him and the new shotgun he discovered. The pursuit to the base was easier as ever... a bit too easy as you typed in the code you found within Benardos pockets and viola!
The doors steamed and hissed opened before slamming with a heavy roar behind your small group. The lights then appeared on with every step you took, the past off just a second later. There was a faint humming that you couldn't pin point as the seemingly endless hallway of grey concrete walls, floors, and ceilings made the perception of time nearly impossible if it not for Ronnie complaining about having the munchies every five minutes.
"I think this is where we need..." your sentence came to falling halt. The boulder of momentum you all had been forcing up this stories hill now coming crashing down and chasing back after you. Its engagement only in a moments matter of time and it was ever approach as a figure emerged from the dark expanse of the room, a singular toarch they carried a glock in the other as the metal came in between your eyes. The features of this person coming into light and... your stomache dropped, you heard the safety of someones gun flick off and the sound of a pin could drop in that moment.
"You're dead, was all you could formulate to say..." an overwhelming feeling of nauseau tore its way through your system with vengence. "Then I wouldn't be here right? Just like you wouldn't be, is that not right? As you can see I am perfectly alive, child of mine. Now what friends have you brought to me today-"
"No." you put down your foot even when still at the barrels end, the smirk they sent, pushing your forehead to have you staggering back and into the awaiting arms of Brody behind you before being pulled back by the lapels of your jacket with great force. "No?" they mock.
"No?" they say as a state rather than a question. "No?" they chuckle to your horror. And "No." you confirm.
"You do know regardless if they make it out of here or not, they all will hate you in some degree by the end of this, child. They do not understand the cure that is us as you are undeserving of anyones love but my own-"
"You disgust me, father/mother," you bite back, hands shaking as a thousand memories come back to you being strapped to various informal medical technologies. Your skin bruised by the needles of a thousand experiments, some faulting to the plague you all knew todays as the zombies and yet you managed to healthy take the dose, take in the ability to evolve.
The idea that got forced down not spewing up new red hot tears from the corners of your eyes. "And you are to disgust them, do you know, companions of my child that your friend... or I see lover that they are exhibit A, the core and centre to all this destruction? And isn't it glorious, through a singular serum- nobody shall every become someone like us if we do not choose to, impenetrable to any human disease, sickness, or... death. The world shall rot at our feet so that we can rebuild it a better new!"
You refuse to look back on what you assume to be eyes of disgust landing on you as you fall to your knees, sobbing at your parents feet. The gun stays at your head, caressing the hair from out of your face as you wince at the cold metal greeting your features. BANG BANG
The bullets echo across the man-made landscape and disappear. You hear a groan and a stumble before metal is pressed to your forehead again, "nice try, but you seemed to have already forgotten my speech and have so rudely interrupted. You see, to end this all, YES! the cruelest trick of them all, you must kill us both at the same time. How joyous is that! And now you all must decide, its either you take us both, or I take all of you... its up to you~" your parent cackles as Brody grunts out in displeasure, barrels ready to shoot once more at your parental figure before Savanah is pulling him back once more.
"there has to be another way-" Savanah begins to ramble and rattle off an endless stream of ideas that are met with no answers or explanations.
"there is no other way..." you announce, eyes still kept to your ground yet head tilting to your left side praying they catch on. "do it, please," you ask, watching as your parent grins with glee. "yes, do it!" they copy your tone with an additional theatrical performance. Brody contemplates, eyes taking in to observe your form for what could be the last time... but after all this time you both have spent together through countless arguments, play fights and near kisses. He knew they could not have all been for nothing...
serum... if only we decide... evolve... zombies... dread... and with a sharp intake of breath BANG BANG, it echos in a silent scream.
─────── · ·
And that scream follows you as you awaken, not a singular syllable falling from your lips before arms are being wrapped around your frame and that familiar scent of aftershave, cigerettes, and motor oil have your eyes welling up with tears of relief.
"I knew you would catch on," you manage to croak out as Spencer had yet to speak, he just holds you tightly, shaking slightly ebfore whispering in your ear, "never to that again, that was so not cool, babe." Right before Savanah and Ronnie both burst into the room. "Science fucking Rules!" Ronnie cheers as you all burst out in laughter. Savanah still looks around confused, "so like... what actually happened? I still don't get the whole picture of how we all are like alive?"
"Well, if that serum can prevent you from somehow dying... why couldn't it also bring you back to life?" Brody explains as if it were the sky being blue as you shake your head. "Well I actually pressed the serum into his sleeve before we all entered the truck again, I was planning on telling him and asking him to be my... boyfriend before all of literal hell broke lose," you end your sentence with a laugh leading into a cough as Spencer reaches down below the table, pressing a water bottle into your face as you offer him a smile in thanks.
You all sit there in the silence and protection of the bunker. Allowing yourselves to relax for the first time in what felt like forever go by. "So how're we going to solve this Zombie issue?" Savanah perks up once more to everyones shrugs.
"Well, that was the last of the serum I know of... how does space sound?" you ask in a half joking half not tone as Spencer pulls you that bit closer, his eyes holding a lightness to them you had never seen before George was outroing and the moment was broken.
"Thank you all for joining us on this epically wild adventure, and I hope you all will join us again from when Smosh Dread returns- this time to outer space! Like, Subscribe, Share this Video with your Friends and remember friends... to drink water!"
"And thats a wrap!" Alex yelled out from behind camera as everyone clapped and cheered. You shook hands with George and sent smiles to your fellow cast mates Shayne and Courtney before your gaze casted down realizing that Spencer had already left.
─────── · ·
When finally out of costumer, make-up, and packing up the last things at your desk for the day, you were startled to find Spencer still in the office. You both seemingly the last to leave. "Hey, do you have a moment?" Spencer asks you, waving you down as you pick up your pace and meet him by the door. "What's up?"
"I really meant that you were a good actor by the way..."
"I stopped acting a long time ago, actually," you reply, shuffling your feet and Spencer drags a hand through his hair, an awkward tension only growing as the seconds tick by into minutes and you both start speaking at once.
"You go first," Spencer says, taking a half step closer to you as you lean your face in intently, as if to tell a secret. "I really like you, Spencer more so than Brody, more so than anyone I've known."
"I like you too, more than any character you could play, more than... yeah" Spencer agrees with wide eyes, seemingly as in disbelief of this moment as you were taking your face into his hands as you wrap your arms over his shoulders, checking if one another were tangible. And with one last look, your lips fell to one another in a delicate dance, your breath hitching as your gripped the fabric of his hoodie, sighing into his moan before backing away and gasping for air.
"See you tomorrow?" you say yet it rather comes out like a question. "Would you... want to come over to my place?"
"Yes, actually."
Anthony Complimenting Ian ☀️🔍
“I think that’s a big difference in us reuniting, is I am so willing to praise you and mention your strengths.”
Hey guys! Been working on this post for a while and so happy to finally share!
Before we knew of their reunion, there was this window of time where Anthony kept complimenting Ian on social media. That stood out to me then, especially after having very little interaction between them in so long. But now having the context that they were actually hanging out again behind the scenes, and that Anthony now makes a conscious effort to compliment/praise Ian makes it all the more sweeter. The said compliments I mentioned were posted at the time but the fandom wasn’t as active as it now is again so I wanted to compile a list of all the moments of Anthony complimenting Ian from their reunion to present for anyone who might’ve missed it. Enjoy!
Pre-Reunion
Okay so this first post is actually from before they reconnected. We know from the Smosh Reunion t-shirt that they reconnected in November 2022 and this post is from July 2022.
Tumblr media
I like to think Anthony was in a better place with his emotions towards Smosh/Ian by this point, and that Ian had been on his mind and so a nice little compliment was to be had.
Post-Reunion
April 2023
Tumblr media
5 months post-reunion and Anthony’s feeling more confident to joke around whilst still complimenting Ian. You love to see it! And Ian’s reply, him getting all embarrassed is cute 🤭
It also reminded me of these tweets from back in September 2017 :-
Tumblr media
Confirmed: Anthony has a thing for calling Ian ‘daddy’. Noted. 👀
May 2023
Less than a month later and Anthony was back at it again with the compliments
Tumblr media
Ian looks good and Anthony is determined to tell him at every opportunity!
And then…
June 2023
THE (PUBLIC) REUNION
And so ensued an abundance of compliments.
Anthony’s Interview
First lot of praise we saw from Anthony to Ian was in his interview with him. Tumblr sadly doesn’t allow you to add more than one video to a post so these are all quotes from said interview.
Like the tweet above of Ian getting his first chain necklace, they reference it once again. Ian is talking about how even though they’ve grown as people they haven’t changed that much, he references the fact Anthony has “more bling and tattoos” now, Anthony then interjects with :-
“Hey, you got a little bling too, let’s not discount it.”
Ian then shows the jewellery off and Anthony comes in saying “Baby’s first chain.” I like to think he was the first one to say that when Ian got the chain and where Ian got the inspo for his Twitter caption. Anthony then finishes this topic of conversation off by adding on that Ian also got “face bling too” in reference to his glasses. I know this isn’t really a full-out compliment and they’re just kinda messing about, but I think it still stands with Anthony saying that’s something that’s changed between them now is that he’s willing to compliment him, and I love how when Ian tries to downplay something about himself, Anthony jumps straight in there to lift him up too.
Another complimentary moment from the interview was when Anthony was talking about when he was 15 and came down with an autoimmune disease resulting in him missing half a year of school and Ian got a bunch of people to sign a ‘Get Well Soon’ card to give to Anthony to make him feel better.
“There is one moment, one thing that you did for me, when we were younger that really stood out to me that I never mentioned to you and I never thanked you for. I’ve been holding it in and I have never expressed it…. I don’t know how you got it to me, but somehow you got a ‘get well soon’ card that you gave to me - Okay, I don’t know if it was you who came up with the idea or your mom, or if like your mom told you, you had to do it. And a whole a bunch of people signed it and you wrote a message like ‘get well soon, we can’t wait to see you again’. And that, it really meant a lot to me, and yeah, it kinda kept me motivated and focused, and I don’t know why but for some reason it motived me to learn how to program a website, program a game, and I feel like because of that in some ways I was able to channel all my energy into creating the things that eventually culminated in what the foundation of Smosh was.”
I really love this moment, and I think it really shows Anthony’s growth. As was revealed in his letter to Ian, there was a period of time in which he felt he had more of a hand in creating Smosh in the early days, but the fact he can now acknowledge and recognise Ian’s input in it all, even before Smosh was a thing, and thank him for it really shows how far Anthony has come.
The last lot of praise from the interview is actually something Anthony has mentioned multiple times as you will see later on in this post and that is about their dynamic and how they work together.
“I think the fact we work in such different ways, like I’m able to really hyper-focus on something and put all my energy, just like back-to-back constantly in one chunk, I think that works really well when compared against the way that you work, where you are super creative and..”
Ian interjects by saying his head is “up in the clouds” when he works. Anthony continues by saying that Ian needs to be there to come up with the ideas that he does and then praises him once more :-
“I could never come up with most of the ideas that you come up with, but I feel I know how to formulate it and put it together.”
Next lot of praise for the month was this tweet :-
Tumblr media
Anthony praising Ian, along with everyone else who had a hand in keeping Smosh going all these years. Similar to something he said at Vidcon when he interviewed Ian once again :-
“I just want to say huge, huge respect to you for staying with Smosh. For having that faith in it that it could continue to grow and be something bigger…” [audience cheers and Anthony points to Ian] “So huge, huge respect to Ian. That took a lot of tenacity - the tenacity you said I had, that’s where you really showed up. And Ian had to learn how to be a leader, Ian had to learn how to do all these things where he was just thrown into that because I made the decision to leave because Smosh, what it had become, was eating a hole in me and I felt I needed to walk away to figure myself out, to just grow on my own and I’m so thankful that you stuck around to keep it going so that we could do this [own Smosh again].”
And there was more where that came from and leads me onto the next lot of compliments :-
Vidcon 2023
“When Ian came over to my place to write… I remember I was sitting on the coffee table writing these jokes and you would say something and it would totally catch me off guard just like you used to do.”
Anthony said this so fondly to Ian, the “just like you used to do.” It goes back to what he said during his interview with Ian, which he got emotional about, that during the lunch where they reconnected properly for the first time, he saw his childhood friend in that moment. That despite how much they had both changed, the Ian he knew, the only one who can make him laugh like he does, was and is still there.
Anthony goes on to bring up their working dynamic again as he did in his interview :-
“While we were writing that sketch, while we were shooting it, there was this feeling - I didn’t realise it, but there was something missing from my creative process. Especially in creating comedy, that Ian just perfectly… I don’t know if I want to say yin and yang - I don’t know what I want to say about it. But it was just this perfect balance, that feels like in order for us to reach our fullest potential creatively, us working together is, in my heart, the only way for that to really reach its fullest capacity.”
Ian then responds in his usual way, trying to downplay his efforts by agreeing that their dynamic works well that way because he’s, in his own words, “kind of lazy.”
Anthony is quick to jump in though :-
“I think that’s a misconception, you’re not lazy.”
I love how he just outright refuses to let Ian talk down about himself nowadays. He will absolutely not have it!
Ian continues on and compliments Anthony in return by saying he is very ‘tenacious’ and ‘focused’, and ‘particular about things.’ Whereas Ian’s way of working, as Anthony goes on to say, is “throwing stuff out” and Anthony likes to pick out the best of the best from those ideas. And this is when we got the first of the ☀️🔍 analogies :-
“It feels almost like Ian is the sun radiating all these ideas in every direction, and then I’m the magnifying glass that’s like ‘let’s focus on this one, let’s make this one fire. This one’s amazing.’ And something about just the way that we work together just meshes so perfectly, and I think that’s how we became best friends in sixth grade, that’s how we established our sense of humour and why the Smosh videos that we created resonated with so many people, is because there is that perfect dichotomy between us.”
Do you think Anthony thinks their dynamic is perfect? I don’t know 🤔 I don’t think he mentioned it enough.
Jokes aside, it is very sweet. And I love how much he loves their connection.
The next lot of compliments come straight after the quote of Anthony praising Ian for sticking with Smosh whilst he was gone :-
“I’m super thankful - you know for the past six years it just felt like there was a hole in there [in his heart]. You know I’ve been creating my own interview series and it’s felt like this is a great way for me to be able to express a part of me, but not all of me. And that other part of me that wasn’t being expressed is that part of me that I now get to experience with you, and working with you, my childhood best friend, in creating something and being able to capture that magic and express it, and be able to present it for all of you [the audience], it’s a really, really great feeling.”
Ian then responds with another little compliment of his own :-
“I think on my side, you know when you left I was still making sketch comedy, I was still writing, but I never found the same kind of writing partner that I did after you. It was never the same. The way that we work together, I never quite found that kind of person to easily bounce ideas off to, so I kind of stepped back a little bit from the writing.”
It also reminds me of something Ian said during Anthony’s interview, about how they have this level of ‘trust’ between them, that Ian never found again with anyone else after Anthony left. Makes me so soft, they feel so lucky to have each other again. No one quite gets them like the other does and they can never replace what they have. Their connection truly is special.
This is more of a silly one and just them joking around but I’m including it anyways! They had a Q&A session with the audience after the interview and the person asking the question starts off by introducing themselves and saying how they met Ian the other day and apologises for calling him “old.”
They both laugh and Ian pretends to begin to walk off stage. And then, you guessed it, Anthony swoops in with a retort :-
“Hey! He’s 35 years young.”
Moving on to later the same day, after playing a live version of TNTL with the cast, they all had a sit-down Q&A :-
Q: “What inspires you? What made you who you are?”
And of course, as if he hadn’t already killed us enough, Anthony has to go and say this :-
“I’m about to say something totally whack. I’d say, Ian and my friendship when we first started really connecting. I feel like Ian taught me to not take myself too seriously and his sense of humour is just all over the place and I eat that shit up, I think it’s so funny.”
Like wtf. WHAT THE FUCK.
Tumblr media
Ian’s reaction to him saying that pretty much sums up my emotions.
And that was it for Vidcon!
Except if you count this little cherry on top and the perfect closing to June as the picture is from Vidcon :-
Tumblr media
Anthony being obsessed with Ian on main! You love to see it!
July 2023
Started off July with a bang and the ☀️🔍 article :-
Tumblr media
Never getting over this! Anthony just loves the sun and magnifying glass analogy and I couldn’t be more here for it. Ian is the sun in his life 💛🖤
Ian Reads Anthony’s Angry Letter
And then came the infamous letter video. Which even though there were a few hurtful things revealed, there still managed to be a few nods of acknowledgment towards Ian even in that hurt Anthony felt.
As mentioned earlier in this post, in part of the letter Anthony writes that in the early days of Smosh he wanted it to be something ‘he’ made with Ian’s help, and that he considered Ian to only be “tagging along”. He goes on to apologise [in the letter] for if he ever made Ian feel like he didn’t deserve as much credit as he did.
“You may not have done some of the heavy lifting I did in the early days, but definitely encouraged us to keep going and you kept things light and full of laughs as we did it. We accomplished so much and I am just now realising how important you were in making that happen.”
Anthony then brings up something that happened recently between them :-
“But that thing that you read there - you did, and this was actually really nice for me to hear from you. It was a few days after we had confirmation that we had bought Smosh, you came over to my place, we had a little celebratory hang; very luxurious. We chilled with cigars and some whiskey, and we just bro-ed it up, and you said that to me. That exact thing - you said, “hey, I don’t think I ever really acknowledged the heavy lifting that you did in the early days” and you said that you “felt really lucky to be there at that time and that I included you in that.” And that was really nice to hear, even though I know.”
So I know technically this compliment/praise/acknowledgment isn’t new as the letter was written in 2017, but it’s ‘new’ to us. But I’m glad to hear that Anthony does acknowledge Ian’s involvement in Smosh’s success, even in the early days when Anthony was doing more of the technical things. He acknowledges that Ian still had a role to play in it all being what it was.
Ian agrees with what Anthony is saying, and that he always felt ‘guilt’ over the fact Anthony had to do the things he didn’t have the skillset to do, but recognises that he didn’t acknowledge or thank Anthony enough for it because he was ‘afraid’ that he might have to do more when their whole thing was about doing “equal work” because they felt as a duo they had to, and that if the other felt they were doing more work then there was some resentment there. Ian tries to downplay himself by joking “In most cases you were doing more work than me…” but Anthony is quick to jump in again and not allow it.
“I was doing more hours, but I think you were doing more of the creative heavy-lifting which is more taxing in many ways. So I think that you needed your time to recoup your energy, cause you’re coming up with funny stuff, and at that time I was like ‘I’m doing so much work’.”
Also another mention of Ian’s creativity and humour when it comes to writing, that Anthony acknowledges he wouldn’t be able come up with. But you can see where the ‘resentment’ they talked of came from, and why Anthony felt he was doing more. When in reality it’s just that’s their strengths lie in different areas, but that doesn’t make the work they both do individually any less important. So I am happy they can see that now and praise each other for the unique ways in which they shine which compliments their own strengths in their own special ways.
WE WERE ROBBED! Watch Party
It happened again. Anthony calling Ian ‘daddy’. Can we just all agree that he has a thing for it? Okay. Good.
They’re discussing how everyone in chat is poking fun at Ian for saying “you guys are a fun bunch” to the rest of the group during the ‘Do Men Know Reproductive Anatomy?’ Smosh Pit video and how it was a ‘dad’ comment. Ian reads out a comment talking about how Arasha called him ‘dad’ and he says “[she] can because she’s my son”. And then Mr ‘Ian is Daddy’ Padilla jumps in with the correction once again :-
Anthony: “I think you’re becoming ‘daddy’.”
Ian: [asks if it’s when he puts his glasses on]
Anthony: “Especially.”
Ian: [puts glasses on]
Anthony: “Oh damn, daddy.”
Like why is this Anthony’s thing now? Whatever the reason - I’m here for it.
Also, Ian doesn’t like to be referred to as ‘pops’ but Anthony’s into it. So, Daddy and Pops. It’s settled. Love our parents 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦
Smosh Mouth
And just like we started July, we ended it the same - with a bang!
I urge you if you haven’t seen it yet (or even if you have), to go watch this video. It may as well have been named ‘Praise Ian Hour’. Not only have we got Anthony, but also Shayne and Amanda coming in to add to the many compliments.
I know all these compliments the others were giving Ian were probably making Anthony’s heart swell with pride. To know that not only himself, but everyone else also recognises Ian’s strengths. To know that these things he loves about Ian, others see in him too.
So a lot of the video was the others complimenting Ian rather than from Anthony himself, but he agreed with everything they were saying and added a few little tidbits. So this next lot of compliments will be what Shayne and Amanda said, along with Anthony’s comments :-
Amanda: [talking about when she first auditioned for Smosh] “And I’ll never forget after I did that [read the script], it was really fun - they asked me a question, and I was in a really interesting place in my life… And they were like “If you could have one superpower, what would it be?” and I just said “Vulnerability.”… And I’ll never forget, Ian stood up and went “Do you write comedy also?” and I said “Yeah!”, and he went [nods] and he shook my hand.”
Anthony: [grinning ear to ear] “He knew. He knew.”
Tumblr media
Happy boy loving hearing people praise his bff 🥰
“I think honestly that statement alone is exactly why you’re doing a podcast. I think Ian was able, if he really did know in that moment, I think it probably was seeing that there was more to you than just the comedy, there’s more depth there, there’s multiple layers, and you can build on that a lot more than just somebody who can only do one type of thing.”
A very sweet comment. How Ian recognised the talent in Amanda from that one thing she said, and also cute how well Anthony knows Ian so can see exactly where he was coming from in seeing that talent in her and why she ended up at Smosh.
Shayne: “…I’m curious how you [Anthony] think things were going in the years you were gone? It’s been fun to see this arc of Ian. And being honest I’ve gotten to know Ian so well over the course of 6 years and that’s what’s so interesting about you coming back. You know Ian better than any of us-”
Anthony: “But I don’t know the Ian from the past 6 years as well as well as you guys do.”
Shayne: “…But you haven’t seen president Ian.” [talks about how when Anthony was still there both him and Ian were so busy under Defy that they weren’t around much to act as leaders]
Anthony: “Yeah, there was no leadership really coming from Ian and I, except that I think we showed excitement and passion… We showed that, and I think that’s where we kinda led, but it wasn’t really ‘we’re the leaders’ and when I left, and especially when Defy collapsed and Ian was left there making a lot of those decisions, he had to be the leader that had to lead by example and get everyone onboard with his ideas, and that was a really unique role for him because he was kinda forced into that position, and he was forced to get really good at it. And I think, over the 6 year time period that I was gone, I’ve seen him, observing from the outside, I’ve seen him get better and better at that role. Even though I know he doesn’t ‘love’ it, he’s not like ‘I can’t wait to go and be a leader when I go to work’, and he’s told me that he feels like he thrives most when we have the dynamic between us where I can pick up when he’s not really-”
“observing from the outside” 🥺 the fact he was still checking up on Ian even when they weren’t close anymore, it shows that the care was still there despite the strain on the relationship. It also reminds me of what Ian said during Anthony’s interview, that he could tell Anthony was floundering when he first left :-
Ian: “I could see very clearly what you were doing and what was going on. It was very clear that you were trying to find your individual creative voice. And with the types of videos you were putting out it felt very much like you’d throw this out and see if that would stick, you’d throw that out and see if that would stick. You’d get excited about something - I could tell there was a time when I think you were watching Nathan For You, and you were getting excited about this one kind of style.”
Anthony: “Damn, you read me like a book.”
It’s just like Shayne said - they know each other better than anyone. And that extends to even when they weren’t speaking, they still knew the other inside and out.
Amanda: “He’s glowing right now.”
Shayne: “He’s been so happy.”
Anthony: “It’s really, really cool to see because you know watching from the outside, I was able to observe his mannerisms and kind of get a general idea of where his headspace was at, but even then I wasn’t able to fully understand him because I didn’t fully understand him for so many years leading up to it, so I was just an outside observer trying to just keep tabs. But I do notice a stark difference, ever since Ian and I had that discussion, and were like ‘you know what, let’s buy Smosh and anything we can do to make that happen, let’s do it’. And after that conversation I’ve been keeping up-to-date with the content a lot more and I’ve seen Ian shine in such an interesting way, where I don’t even know if you guys felt it - like before the announcement, you felt something good was coming?”
Is everyone sufficiently in tears? Good, because me too. This isn’t even the end of this convo, I just had the pause to go over all of what was just said. Both Amanda and Shayne saying how happy Ian is now, I don’t know how Anthony didn’t cry on the spot! I did and it’s not even about me! Like hearing that, knowing it’s because of him that Ian is so happy 😭 and I think the same can be said for Anthony. They’re both so happy to have each other again ❤️
Shayne: “I did start to notice a change these past few months. I started to notice - this dude, there’s something about him, like the ‘cool’ factor started to change. He started wearing a chain! He started tucking shirts in.”
Amanda: “Oh yeah! He tucked in every shirt. He wore a chain. He was glowing. And our conversations were about life and joy and not really what he was reading on the internet.”
Shayne: “His confidence level has changed this year. When you guys announced the whole thing [buying Smosh], you walked into the building and I was like ‘Okay this makes sense!’ He’s feeling a lot more confident because things are feeling more certain and this place is going to turn into more of what he wants.”
Anthony: [agrees, and talks about how he thinks the confidence comes from a place of Ian now knowing the future of Smosh is secure under them after not knowing for a long time] “And I think for some reason, just naturally his confidence started growing as - I don’t know if this is related, but he is so good at writing and coming up with jokes, and I think for a long time he got the impression in his head that he wasn’t good at that anymore. And I think the Smosh channel moving away from written stuff, which I feel like he just really shines at - these absurd ideas, and when they come to life on screen maybe I’m able to help keep them a little bit more focused. But I really love that, cause he has so many great ideas and I started noticing just how many good ideas - he would throw out like 30 ideas and 20 of them were brilliant. But I feel like he started to gain confidence too in our writing sessions where he realised, ‘oh this isn’t a fluke, I wasn’t just funny in the past’ - I don’t know if this was the worry that was going on in his head, but it certainly was in mine. I was like, ‘was I only good at this in the past? can I be good at this now?’ and we both discovered together that what we were good at in the past, was more of a representation of our innate abilities and personality on our own but also the dynamic between us, and it seems like his confidence was growing there, and on camera when I would watch him from the outside, even hosting ‘Let’s Do This’ - when I saw him hosting these things it seemed like he was much more confident and he was able to take initiative.”
I love how much Anthony talks about how good Ian is at writing and coming up with jokes, and how much he reiterates that nowadays. I love that he recognises that talent in him and acknowledges how his own abilities complement Ian’s so well and why their dynamic is so special and works so well.
Shayne: “Ian is so much funnier than he realises. And maybe he’s realising it now-“
Anthony: “Yeah, I hope so.”
Aw Anthony 🥺 well if he doesn’t, you’re there to remind him tenfold.
Shayne: “But over these past years, I think the thing that has always frustrated me is - as you said [Anthony], he’ll throw out ideas but he’ll be like ‘oh this one’s dumb’ and I’m like ‘no that’s really funny, man’…. But whenever he goes 100% and he commits fully it’s always great.”
Anthony: “Always great.”
Shayne: “And I think he really does that in your guy’s sketches, there’s no doubt - the Ian that people know and love is that guy. And I think when he’s able to write and know what it is, he goes full force. But I will say even with the improvised stuff he held himself back - he’s so good, but he just needs to allow himself go full force.”
Anthony: “I think he would second guess.”
Shayne: “He second guesses. And I feel bad talking about him without him here, but it’s all good things. Cause reality is he’s really, really talented.”
Anthony: “The truth is he was doubting himself, but the less he’s doubting himself [he’s able to go full force].”
Shayne: [talks about how Ian has said 2019 was one of the hardest years after Defy collapsed and he had to step up as a leader and figure things out on his own] “So suddenly one day Smosh is gone and all these people are just gone, they don’t care. And I remember talking to Ian and being like “hey, so what are we gonna do?” and I remember this look of just - it’s still Ian where everything’s very casual and just kinda shrugged off almost, but I remember him just being like “We’re gonna figure it out. I’m gonna get this together”, and I was just like “That’s the most confident you’ve ever sounded about anything.”
Amanda: “It’s cause he was a single dad, he had to figure it out.”
Shayne: “But Ian’s always like ‘yeah, I dunno’ but this was the first time he was like ‘we’re gonna - I’m gonna - we’re gonna have it.’
Anthony: “And I feel like we see that [confidence] a lot more from him now.”
Shayne: “Yeah, and that was the first time that I was like ‘Dude, this Ian’s crazy. This guy’s not fucking around.’ and he had to do so much behind the scenes that I didn’t see, but he was making business deals and he was working all day, every day to get that shit together. And you know people say Rhett and Link saved Smosh, it’s like Ian saved Smosh. Rhett and Link were there to make that deal happen, but Ian was the one who put that shit together.”
Anthony: “For sure.”
Loved this from Shayne! Because it’s so true, yes R&L were there when Smosh needed a home, but Ian was the one who put in the hard work to make that happen. None of it could have happened without him. And I’m glad Anthony agrees, and as his comments at Vidcon suggest, he’s very thankful that Ian was there to save Smosh so he could come back and they could rightfully own what is their’s, doing what they love, together again.
Shayne: [talking about how Ian and Anthony going their separate ways needed to happen] “You started this thing forever ago when you were kids and it’s completely overshadowed your own lives and your friendship. To be able to take a step away and figure out who you guys are on your own and then come back - you guys at a certain point were forced to be best friends on camera and that’s tough and it becomes a product more than an actual friendship, so to be able to walk away and leave that alone and then choose to be best friends again.”
Not so much a compliment, just loved this. It’s the choice to be best friends again that gets me. Something they’re actively choosing and put above everything else, they’re never going to let anything get in the way of their friendship again and that is so special.
The famous quote comes to mind :-
“If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours.”
Shayne: “I said it to Ian when he was on the podcast - I really respect both of you for your both individual journeys in all this. Like your choice to leave the thing you made forever ago as a kid, that meant everything to you, that’s an insane choice. And you made it for your own good, and you recognised your own happiness and that was gigantic. And Ian, I think really was scared to be a leader here, he was scared to be on his own, like president, and he really did it and he’s stuck with it through crazy [times] - not only the shutdown where he stepped up, but the pandemic as well, where we were all filming stuff on our own by ourselves, and he stuck with it, man. That dude, he’s had some endurance with all of this and so to see you guys back together, I know for him there’s pressure taken off because he has you, and I can see there’s so many aspects of the job that he questions himself - I think he’s great at it, but he questions himself and I think you can fill in that part for him where he’s like ‘oh sweet, I know I can rely on you’.”
Anthony looks like he’s about ready to cry when Shayne said that and I don’t blame him because I could too.
Tumblr media
Knowing just how important he is to Ian. That he is the only person Ian can rely on when it comes the leadership side of the business, an area where he’s been alone in for so long, doubting himself, I’m sure it makes Anthony want to hype him up and reassure him even more that he’s doing a good job.
Shayne: “And I said this to you, I think the day you first came back, but I’m like - you both together is one of the greatest YouTubers ever.”
Anthony: “I appreciate that.”
Shayne: “You individually - super successful. Like you went and you were successful on your own. Ian maintained Smosh on his own. That’s really cool to see that there was success from both of you individually, but together - I mean when we’re at Vidcon and we’re talking to other YouTubers, Smosh has, there’s something to it right? Like other YouTubers go ‘Oh! Smosh!’ that’s a big deal.”
It’s so emotional how this thing that Ian and Anthony created together as teenagers is what it is now 🥲 and it’s so true - together, they’re something special.
Anthony: [discussing how he discovered his interview format for his videos after trying lots of different kinds of content after leaving Smosh] “I thought that my lane was making sketch comedy so I was writing out some stuff. But I realised that on my own, without Ian, I am not a very strong writer. I do not have the funniest jokes.”
Again, Anthony recognising Ian’s talent when it comes to writing and the Yin and Yang of their dynamic, and how they need each other to really be at their best.
[Amanda says how Anthony seems like an extrovert in his interviews. He says it’s an illusion and that he’s really introverted - Shayne agrees that he is]
Shayne: “I mean I’m just now hanging out with you again recently, but I always got the sense, and I get the sense still, that Ian is the outgoing one.”
Anthony: “Yeah.”
Shayne: “Ian’s super outgoing, and people maybe don’t clock that… At parties, Ian will walk up to any group of people and he’ll just join the conversation.”
Anthony: “For sure.”
Amanda: “You’re right, he does.”
Shayne: “It is shocking to me. And he’s so chill about it.”
I know this was mainly just Anthony agreeing, but I found it interesting and it made me wonder if that is another reason their dynamic works so well and if it’s maybe also a comfort for Anthony? As a fellow introvert, I know how much easier it makes things when you have an extroverted person with you in social situations that you feel uncomfortable with. So I wonder if it’s the same for Anthony with Ian, that he has him there to lean on, knowing he’ll take the forefront in those types of situations if he needs it.
And that was it for the podcast and for the month of July.
And so draws to a close the first instalment of this compliments series. I plan to continue this month to month, or every few depending on how much content there is - you’ll be able to find all parts in the Compliments Masterlist.
Thank you for reading and catching up with the world of the Anthony Padilla Ian Hecox Fanclub with me. Hope you enjoyed and I shall see you next time!
Hey lilac!
About the previous ask about Olivia and the Airbnb. From what I saw on the tiktok , I'm afraid to say that is not the Airbnb from the wedding, but the Pressalike/Smosh house. You can tell by the kitchen 'Chandelier' and the Ianthony vidcon pic on the fridge. And if you are wondering as to why it seems in a different side, it is most probably because the video is 'mirrored' which is common in iphones.
So we still don't have solid proof that Ian was at the wedding party. Sorry folks!
Ah, that's what I was thinking! It was still a cute tik tok because they were all hanging out at the New Smosh House!
Lunchtime with Smosh podcast LORE
so i've done the liberty of listening to the first episode of the Lunchtime with Smosh podcast and compiling all the "lore" we've learned during this episode. i watched it a total of three times bc i loved it so much and i was bored so i decided to do this.
(i did not include lore that they have already previously talked about in other videos.)
ANTHONY:
has never had a deviled egg
would ask if he could come with ian on his walks
has not used shampoo in 4 years but will use it if his hair gets actually dirty; his dandruff decreased when he stopped using shampoo and his hair used to be really dry
lately has been washing his foot first bc of a new tattoo
washes his pits and bits first in the shower (after conditioning his hair)
wishes chester bennington from linkin park didn't die
thinks ian would stop world war ii soon after it started (the invasion of poland)
likes socializing only if it's one on one where they can have deeper conversations
doesn't like small talk, thinks it's peaceful when no one sits next to him at lunch
was the most angry with ian when they were coming back from their high school grad night. they were on a bus while anthony was sleeping and ian clapped and screamed in his face. anthony yelled "WHAT THE FUCK! STOP!" and was aggressive to ian. he later felt bad about it but was too embarrassed to admit it to ian.
would tell a friend if they had bad breath but not an acquaintance
one of his icks is when he's hanging out with someone and the person is uncomfortable with silence so they try and force small talk with him
likes being alone with someone else's presence; if he can sit in silence with them that's how he knows they can vibe together
starts an internal clock and waits 5 minutes before eating the last piece of food
another ick is when people gossip; his brain shuts down and he goes quiet; feels like gossip is judging other people for no reason (however he will occasionally join in and laugh at what other people are gossiping about)
his top four favorite movies are arrival, home alone, home alone 2, and our universe on netflix, which is not a movie
IAN:
thinks running so much back then made him stupid. he'd be at anthony's house while they were writing smosh sketches and be tired all the time. he'd pace around anthony's room being restless and would say "i didn't run today, i got too much energy"
loves taking walks around his neighborhood and look at flowers; is a power-walker and thinks his gait is "off" when he walks slowly
washes his feet in the shower bc his feet are gross
thinks anthony has a "hot cousin"
wishes anthony bourdain didn't die
farts freely at disneyland and will not blame someone else if they fart bc it's part of life
would cheer anthony up with a long hug; doesn't think complimenting him on his posture or telling him a cum joke would cheer him up
would stop the challenger explosion so that there'd be another one where big bird can be in and there's a chance the second one could explode
makes coffee and talks to six people first thing in the morning (according to anthony)
"i like people"; thinks people hate him if he doesn't talk to them; thinks people don't sit next to him on planes bc he looks like a shooter
people didn't sit next to him at school and people don't sit next to him at lunch at smosh unless he's the one that joins them at the table
worst fear is having bad breath; only acquaintances have had bad breath and wonders if that's the reason they never became friends
is uncomfortable with silence and will talk to avoid it during dates
one of his icks is when he goes out to eat with someone and they don't venmo him for the food; the person has been demoted to acquaintance and that them not venmoing for food has been a pattern; the dishonesty bothers him more than the money
another ick is when people leave the last piece of food on the plate bc they're too polite to be the one to finish it
another ick is when anthony doesn't want to gossip
letterboxd top four is city of god, spaceballs, RRR, and they came together; has rated 988 movies on letterboxd
THE INTERN | Chapter One
Spencer Agnew x Younger!Intern!Reader
Tumblr media
TW: None
Word Count: 1.9k
Description: Y/N has been a fan of Smosh since they could remember. Now about to enter their senior year of college, they get an opportunity to be an intern at the Smosh Office and their first day has arrived.
Every new job comes with stress. You never know what is going to happen. You could have awful co-workers, creepy or mean bosses, and horrible workloads pushed onto you by lazy co-workers, the list is infinite.
The stress comes even more when it’s something that could become your first job in the real world. Internships are a major stepping stone in any college kid’s career, it’s the start of being over with college and being a person in society.
That’s all that is racing through Y/N’s head as they look at the studio in front of them. Many people would consider them lucky with their internship. You see, Y/N is a long-time fan of Smosh, a very popular YouTube channel, and was somehow able to get an internship with the company for the summer.
They didn’t know exactly where and who they would be working with, except for knowing that their main job would be helping with social media. Looking at their phone, it shows that they still have ten minutes until they should be there but the anxiety was killing them too much to be any later.
Taking a deep breath, they grip onto the bag on their shoulder and walk to the front door. Pushing the button, they wait until a voice comes over the speaker, “Hi, how can I help you?” They lean down to be face-level with the camera. “Umm, I-I-I’m Y/N L/N. I’m the new intern.” Their voice comes out nervous, hoping they didn’t get the days confused or anything. They read the email what felt like a million times to make sure they were right.
“Yes! Alright, come on in! I’ll meet you at the door.” They hear the door unlock and push it open. Walking into the cool space, the heat from the outside slowly starts to melt from them. Looking around, the office looks much cooler in person. A lot of it is familiar but some things are new or haven’t been shown in videos.
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you!” A gentle voice says, pulling them from their daydream to look at the woman in front of them. The short Filipino woman standing in front of her is smiling kindly, “I’m Selina. Welcome to Smosh.” The woman sticks her hand out for Y/N to shake.
“I’m Y/N, which you already knew, and I know who you are. I’ve been a fan of the channel for a long time. That sounds creepy though, I’m so sorry.” They say while shaking her hand, thankfully the woman has a good sense of humor and is laughing. “It’s not creepy at all. I knew it would come with being in some videos. It’s always cool to meet fans. This must be like a dream for you.”
“Yeah, honestly, the whole process felt like a major dream. I can’t believe I’m here. I had my friends dump cold water on me when I got the email about me getting the internship. It was dumb but helped make sure it was real.” They confess as they play with their hands. Nerves still being the main thing Y/N is feeling.
“I can tell you're nervous. Don’t be. I promise, this place is very chill and the people are amazing. As long as you are willing to work, you’ll fit in well here.” Selina says, comforting the nervous mess that is in front of her. “Thank you, so where do I go?” They ask after taking a deep breath.
“Well, I will give you a tour, and then when we get done with that we will go to the conference room and you will meet some of the people you’ll be working with and some of the higher-ups. That does include Ian and Anthony.” Y/N perks up a little, their mood becoming more optimistic by the second because if everyone is like Selina, then this will be the best time ever.
They follow Selina as she takes them around the office. It’s very empty because it’s a shooting week so most of the office is helping with filming stuff. She got to see all the different pods and meet some of the office-focused staff like Emily, Josh, Peter, and Marcus.
Once the tour is over, the two head back to the front so Y/N can go to the conference room. “And that over there is the conference room. That’s where we do most of our big meetings and important stuff. That concludes the tour, if you have any questions please don’t be afraid to ask.”
“Thank you so much, Selina. I will keep that in mind.” Y/N says, slightly laughing as the two walk to the conference room. “Now this is where I must leave you. I am very excited to be working with you.” She says, giving Y/N a comforting squeeze on the arm before walking away.
Turning to the door, they can see a few people in the conference room. All people They recognize. Tommy, Alé, and Zoe are the only ones in there so far. Taking a breath, they open the door with a kind smile, “Hello, I’m Y/N L/N. It’s nice to meet you.” They say as they walk in, catching the attention of the room.
“Oh, you scared me! I didn’t expect you already, it’s so nice to meet you. I’m Zoe.” Says the blonde woman, walking over to shake her hand. “Nice to meet you, as well.” They say as they walk to the table. “I’m Alé, welcome to Smosh. You impressed us with your interviews and work.” The CEO says and it makes their heart soar.
“That means a lot. Thank you.” Alé gives them a kind smile before they turn to Tommy. “Hello, it’s nice to meet you fellow social media person,” he says, a little hint of amusement in his voice. “It’s nice to meet you as well. I’m so excited to be here, honestly. This is a dream.”
“Okay, you don’t have to butt kiss anymore. You’re already in.” He jokes, making Y/N laugh. “It shouldn’t be too much longer until the rest are here. I think they’re finishing a shoot.” Alé says and Y/N sits down. They look around, not knowing where to sit. “I won’t bite, I swear,” Tommy says, patting the seat next to him.
They sit next to him and put their bag on the table. Pulling out their laptop and tablet, Y/N opens up the important stuff that holds their digital work, video ideas that her advisor said could come in handy, and some examples of videos she’s worked on for her classes.
A few minutes pass with the groups sharing small talk until the door opens. Looking over, Y/N feels nervous all over again as Ian and Anthony walk into the room with Erin D. walking in behind them. “So sorry, we’re late. The rest are coming in soon.” Anthony says before turning to Y/N.
Their eyes widen when he looks at them, not believing this is real again. “Well hello there, you must be Y/N. I’m Anthony.” He says, walking over with his hand stretched out. “I know, I’ve been a fan for a while. Thank you again for this, it’s a dream come true.” They say as they shake his hand. Ian chuckles while walking over, “We’re glad to have someone so talented on our team. Your work is amazing.” He says, shaking their hand as well.
“That means a lot. Y’all’s videos got me through years and years of homework and projects.” They say, laughing a bit. “Well, we’re glad to have helped,” Anthony says as the door opens again.
This time Shayne and Courtney walk in and behind them is someone who makes her heart race for a different reason. Her breath halts when Spencer walks into the room, dressed in a jean jacket, button-down, rolled jeans, and boots. His curly hair was held back by a cap on his head.
The three sit down together, across from Y/N and Tommy. “Okay, everyone is here. Thank you all for coming. Today we are welcoming a new addition to our office for the summer. Y/N L/N is coming to us from across the country and is currently in their senior year of college. Welcome, Y/N.” Alé says and the room claps.
Tommy motions for them to stand up, “Uh, hi. I didn’t expect to say anything but I’m Y/N, if that’s not obvious. I’m a social media management and multi-media production major. I’m a little nervous being so far from home but excited to be here for the summer.” They say, a shy smile on their face as they look around the room.
Their eyes stop on Spencer who is looking at them with a soft expression. The kind he has when he’s listening to people, the same one they’ve seen in many videos. “It’s very exciting to meet you, Y/N. Welcome to the team.” Courtney says, a kind smile on their face.
“Yeah, I’m excited to see what you can bring to the games channel,” Spencer says, keeping his eyes on them as they sit down. “Yes, thank you for bringing that up Spencer. Y/N, we have looked at the stuff you’ve done and from what you’ve told us plus input from your recommendations. You’ll be mainly helping with the gaming channel.” Alé says.
“Really? That’s so cool.” Y/N says, a smile bright on their face. “Yeah, so you will work with Tommy and me mostly to get things done,” Spencer says and they nod. “Okay, I think that’s all we have. This was just a meeting for you to get to know a few people, mostly the ones you will be working under.” Zoe says.
“Okay, sounds great.” Y/N says, an optimistic smile bright on their face. Everyone stands up, those who already met Y/N leave while Shayne, Courtney, and Spencer stay behind.
“So, Y/N, what have you done at college besides your degree stuff?” Courtney asks, wanting to get to know the newbie more. “Well, I am a part of my school’s esports team. We’re still kind of new but have done pretty well. I also was on the university paper but I stopped so I could do my internship.” They explain.
“That sounds super cool, you must be a good gamer to get on an esports team.” Shayne acknowledges. “I try, it’s not something I do all the time. Mostly for fun and I kinda joined because of my ex but that’s a long story.”
“Ah, the things we do for love.” Courtney reminisces, “I think you will fit in great here. I know Trevor will be happy to have someone close to his age.” Spencer jokes. “I’m super excited, this is honestly a dream. I’m not even sure I’m awake right now.” Y/N confesses.
“I think I know how we can break that. Since it’s your first day, you can sit back and watch how things go then we’ll throw you into the deep end tomorrow.” Spencer says, his eyes never leaving Y/N. “Ooo, that sounds scary. Fun, but scary. I like it.” They say, perking up and putting their bag on their shoulder.
Courtney laughs as they wrap their arm around them, “You are gonna be perfect here.” They say as they all walk out of the conference room.
Welcome to Smosh
Tumblr media
Summary: A salary increase isn't the only benefit when you leave your old job to work for Smosh.
Word Count: 663
AN: Wrote this a while ago and wasn't going to post but decided, why not? Enjoy a little Sunday night random blurb.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When your friend Mika said she was applying for a job at Smosh, you had to ask her what a “Smosh” was. After making fun of you for living under a rock, she explained the history of the youtube channel. She then told you there was another job opening on their social team and you should apply for it.
While you were nervous, you had to admit your current job was subpar at best, and really a shitshow if you told the truth. And working with your best friend? Well at least you’d have one person there you knew.
So, you submitted the application and the process began. And then it moved rapidly. So rapidly that you barely had any time to do research before the interview, leaving you feeling awkward and unprepared. You first meet with Lisa from HR, and are asked to stay once it’s over. You hope it’s a good sign.
You then meet with a few other staff members. You don’t recognize them from your quick study of the channel, but you figure the more corporate people don’t tend to be in videos frequently, if at all.
After that conversation is over, you’re asked to come back the next day.
You get there and find out your meeting is with Lisa, as well as Anthony, one of the owners of the channel. After a short conversation they offer you a job, surprising you with how quickly this whole process went.
After seeing the offer you immediately sign the contract and upon arriving home, send your resignation for your current job.
Two weeks fly by and it’s your first official day at Smosh. Though Mika also got hired in the editing department, that process took longer and she won’t be joining for a few more days. Leaving you to go and meet all these new people alone.
You still hadn’t had much time to watch many Smosh videos. So while you could put a face to a name, and knew cast versus crew, that was about the extent of your knowledge.
Lisa shows you around and introduces you to everyone, just quick introductions but even spending just a moment with everyone has you realizing a problem.
Everyone here is attractive.
Not just physically, but they seem kind, and friendly, and funny. All things that draw you to a person. A few of the guys stood out to you, but you try to ignore that and remain professional.
But they don’t exactly help. Because the three guys you were interested in, all seem to be constantly around you. Even though they really have nothing to do with your department.
Even worse, you are terrible at picking up when people are into you, constantly thinking they just want to be friends. So it takes the help of others for you to realize what is happening.
Ian often stops by your desk, but his pretense of “seeing how you’re settling in” gets a little less believable the longer you’re there. You’re confused when Erica starts giving you looks after his visits.
Damien is no better, asking you to join his table at lunch nearly every day, even when it’s been weeks and you’ve sat nowhere else. He’s always turning to you, getting your opinion and asking questions. You don’t think too much of it, not until Courtney pulls you aside and asks if you like him back.
And then there’s Spencer, bringing you tea multiple times a week, sometimes more than once a day, just so talk to you. Tommy’s the one giving looks and asking questions this time.
You brush off Erica, Courtney, and Tommy, saying that they’re just friends, nothing more. But then the pattern continues and you finally admit it may be something more.
And when all three boys ask you on a date, on the same day, you know you’ve gotten yourself into quite a predicament. This was definitely not how you imagined your Welcome to Smosh to go.
