URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP: LGBTQ+ Refugees Stuck in South Sudan
We are a group of LGBTQ+ Ugandans who fled persecution in our home country, seeking safety and a better future. After being denied assistance in Kenya, we came to South Sudan in hopes of finding refuge. Unfortunately, life here in Gorom Refugee Camp is extremely difficult. South Sudan is a war-torn and highly homophobic country, and we are struggling to survive.
We lack access to basic necessities like food, clean water, medication, clothes, and sanitary items. The UNHCR in South Sudan has been working hard to advocate for us, and we were on track to be resettled in the United States this year. However, with former President Donald Trump now holding a leadership role and his well-known anti-LGBTQ+ stance, our resettlement process has been delayed indefinitely.
This setback has left us stranded in a dangerous environment with no clear way forward. We are calling on the global community for urgent help. We need:
Basic supplies to meet our immediate needs
Advocacy to push for faster resettlement to a safer country
Support from LGBTQ+ organizations and allies worldwide
Our lives are at risk every day in this hostile environment. Please share our story widely and reach out if you can help in any way. Connect with organizations like Rainbow Railroad, OutRight Action International, or other humanitarian groups to amplify our voices and help us find safety.
We refuse to give up, but we need your support to survive and thrive.

VOICES FOR TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS IN SUDAN .
Thesituation for transgender individuals in Sudan is particularly dire due to the intersection of cultural, legal, and social challenges. Sudanese society is predominantly conservative, influenced by strict cultural norms and interpretations of religious values that do not accept gender diversity. Here are some key challenges they face:
Legal Persecution
Sudanese laws criminalize behaviors considered "indecent" or "immoral," often targeting LGBTQ+ individuals, including transgender people. This puts them at risk of arrest, harassment, and severe punishments.
Changes in legal frameworks since the 2019 revolution have shown some progress, but protections for transgender individuals are largely absent.
Social Stigma
Transgender individuals face extreme social ostracization, discrimination, and violence from their communities, families, and society at large. Many are forced to suppress their identity to avoid conflict or harm.
Misunderstandings and lack of awareness about gender identity exacerbate prejudice.
Healthcare Barriers
Access to gender-affirming healthcare is virtually nonexistent. Transgender people are often denied basic medical care due to stigma or the lack of trained professionals who understand their needs.
Mental health services, already scarce in Sudan, are even less accessible to transgender individuals, leading to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide.
Economic Exclusion
Employment discrimination forces many transgender people into precarious and informal jobs, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and poverty.
Being open about their identity can result in job loss or difficulty finding work.
Physical and Emotional Violence
Transgender individuals are at high risk of physical and emotional abuse, both in public spaces and within their homes. Violence is often underreported due to fear of retaliation or further discrimination.
Hate crimes against transgender individuals often go unpunished due to societal indifference and institutional bias.
. Lack of Advocacy and Representation
Activism for transgender rights is limited and often suppressed by authorities. Many activists fear for their safety and operate underground.
The broader LGBTQ+ movement in Sudan is underdeveloped, and transgender issues are frequently sidelined even within these spaces.
The Way Forward
While the challenges are immense, advocacy, education, and international support can play a role in improving the situation for transgender individuals in Sudan. Initiatives to raise awareness about gender diversity, provide safe spaces, and push for legal reform are essential to ensuring their rights and dignity are upheld.

THIS is the sign I was told to be ashamed of, that I shouldn't have "embarrassed myself" by being in public with these opinions. My mother gave me this voice the day she pushed me into the world and she expects me to use it. #FreePalestine, #FreeSudan 🇸🇩 and #FreeUkraine and fuck anyone who disagrees.

VOICES OF SUDAN'S LGBTQ STRUGGLE..
LGBTQ individuals facing these challenges .
Lack of food and basic needs, due to struggles to find meals relying on community support or scavenging for survival
, No access to Healthcare or medication, due to luck of funds to buy medicine and other health needs for LGBTQ individuals even if we try government hospitals we get no treatment they say that they don't have our treatment the only way we can get treatment is to go to pravite hospitals of which no funds to pay..
Homophobic attacks ,where we face violence or threats, showcasing the emotional and physical toll..
Homelessness due to our lives on the streets, constantly moving to avoid being targeted..
Joblessness: due to how stigma and fear of exposure cost us into extreme poverty..
Conflict and Government Hostility: the role of the government in perpetuating their misery through laws, police ,raids, or neglect for example of how LGBTQ individuals we live in fear of being arrested, exposed, or betrayed by neighbors and authorities..
Moments of Resilience: Highlight small victories, like finding allies or forming underground support groups..
Show case their strength in the face of adversity , such as protecting each other or dreaming of a better future..
Climax: create a pivotal moment where the characters face a critical challenge eviction, a violent mob , or the need to flee the country.
This moment could reveal the depth of their struggles while highlighting our courage and humanity..
Note : we can show the characters finding a temporary safe haven, connecting with international organizations or dreaming of a brighter tomorrow..

To Understand what life is you must visit three locations. The hospital, the prison, the cemetery. At the hospital you will understand that nothing is more beautiful than health, in prison you’ll see that freedom is the most precious thing, at the cemetery you will realize that life is worth nothing. The ground we walk on today will be our roof tomorrow. Live life to the fullest you never know what tomorrow holds
