No because I very much agree with you. Crystalized, in my opinion, was one of the WORST seasons in the show. It had A LOT of potential to be so extraordinary but then they just ruined it…

When the season came out I was really excited in the beginning but when I finished it I just felt empty.

Also, Lloyd only staying in his oni form for like 30 seconds pissed me off so much. I think they should have kept his oni form till the end of the battle with the Overlord because it would have shown that two contrasting species, dragon (the ninja and their powers) and oni (Lloyd) can come together to defeat evil itself. That was a huge missed opportunity for me.

The more I think about Crystalized, the more all that wasted potential and all those missed opportunities and all those weird story choices actually kill me. Why did Zane still just... leave his emotion meter off after getting Nya back that always confused me. Why did Kai and Nya only interact TWICE in the entire fucking season??? Why didn't they like, add some cool new Overlord lore or. Give him a personality/actual motives! Also all the random bullshit they threw in is kinda weird. Why did we get to see the all-powerful Dragon Form, but barely any Oni Form??? WHY the FUCK can the ninja, with non-dragon heritage, become dragons ??????

every book you start, you have to let go of what you were used to in the previous one

nona's chakra thoughts align and she wants something

they all find out they're alive and well and gideon rises

nona has lost the ability to move and doesn't quite remember how she was able to do what she did

pyrrha proceeds to carry her around again

like the 0 years baby she actually is

and gideon goes "Home, sweet home"

nona asks about tsundere pash but she has to stay with angel teacher, who got scrambled around in the landing

gideon says that the entities use revenant magic and that they're waiting for crux to kick the bucket to use him as well, so they'll eventually get to him anyway

if they're waiting for crux to die, they can join the congregation of people who've been waiting, with gideon at the front of it

crux has time and energy to be rude af to everyone around him, especially gideon

nona interrupts the family reunion to announce that there's more of these guys coming soon, so they have to grab crux and move on

gideon is about to stay around and throw hands with a bunch of revenants but pyrrha tells her that "any kid in the Cohort knows the mission comes first"

since when is gideon's priority the Cohort, I asked myself at this point, but anyway

nona sees a figure with dark robes and a pale face swaying in the archway, which doesn't look good

crux tells her she's dead and gideon would have had a heart attack if that would still affect her body

they ask crux how long the thingies have been in town and he says he has to answer because they're holding "the Reverend Daughter"

which, they technically aren't, but anyway

says they've been there for about a day

they're looking for the youngest of them, which gideon thinks is tough luck for them

they use bodies but don't seem to be interested in bones

camolyctor paul is still trying to fix it but gideon says that, since it's "spirit shit" (technical term) the only thing you can do, if you're really good, is ward people so that they aren't taken

aiglamene passes a pike to sister berta, who nona says might be honesty's age, and I am reminded there were supposed to be new people in the ninth, according to dr reverend emperor john in book 2

I can't keep up with everything, so much happens at all times

aiglamene says they welcome back the reverend daughter and it's like that scene in mulan

gideon then reveals that she's very much not alive and goes "You always said I'd come back in a box"

so aiglamene goes all feral with nona, believing her to be harrowcita

which is a nice change of pace, I missed people getting angry on gideon's behalf

but gideon tells her that it isn't harrowcita in there, it's just her body

and what's left of it, because it's getting complicated to keep it alive

pyrrha starts flirting with aiglamene

(pyrrha has a type for women in command who get angry quickly)

and she calls her a "brandishment baby", which I felt like a generational name

the ninth also seems to not be in good terms with what the emperor might want and aiglamene says last time they dealt with that was thirty years before

nona is laid on the ground next to a heater to warm up a bit and someone kisses her shoe, which she thinks is very unhygienic, to the point that not even kevin would do it

yandere twin also thinks all of that is bs and she can't really believe that

idk if this is actually about that or about harrow, honestly

gideon says dr reverend emperor john is very depressed and yandere twin starts talking about who he's sleeping with, which I don't care to know

gideon also doesn't want to hear it, but she's ageist about it because he's allegedly sleeping with a sixty year old guy

that's the least of anyone's concerns

yandere twin is the one making more sense, which scares me tbh, and says she doesn't know what he'll become with ice cube barbie and asks what I'm also wondering: "Is this about Harry, after all?"

gideon gets all defensive without answering the question and tells yandere twin to leave with coronabeer and stop bothering her

gideon insists on dr reverend emperor john wanting to kill ice cube barbie and yandere twin slaps her

yandere twin says he loves ice cube barbie and needs her and without her he's nothing and they need to keep him that way

which again makes me feel like I've lost part of the narrative while looking through nona's perspective

and, at that, nona starts losing her nona-ness

she begins to fall apart, exploding from the inside out, and both yandere twin and gideon run to her

someone says "Keep it together. Wherever you are, idiot, I know you can hear me. Keep it together"

I thought that was gideon talking to harrow, but I'm not sure

camolyctor paul tells pyrrha to "go" and pyrrha shoots yandere twin with a magic bullet

a magic bullet which isn't the blender they made harrow in, another magic bullet

pyrrha says she was saving the bullet for dr reverend emperor john, which would have been a much better use for it, but anyway

gideon and pyrrha carry nona while camolyctor paul instructs to "open the door"

nona, who starts talking more like ice cube barbie, refers to harrowcita as "the baby", which is funny but also accurate since she was The Baby, you know, the Ninth Blender Baby

she starts remembering when she was there before, with dr reverend emperor john, who took her there saying he wanted to show her something

I WOULDN'T PUT IT PAST HIM TO HAVE GOTTEN INSPIRATION FROM IT, TBH

the corridor has things that were disabled and others that are yet to be disabled, but pyrrha says they need fresh thanergy for it

gideon says they should kill her but, since she's already dead, it won't work

pyrrha goes all mushy for wake again and says they should kill her, that if wake had asked her she would have died with her for this

pyrrha always gets very emotional in stressful moments

meanwhile, ice cube barbie no longer nona keeps remembering that she was dr reverend emperor john's cavalier and that she loved him and he loved her because he loved "the world"

idk about that tbh but ok

ice cube barbie no longer nona says she hadn't come on purpose, she was brought by harrow, the kiss and the tear

lots of fairy tale kissing in this book series

crux says they should kill him instead

everyone wants to die suddenly

except for nona, which is ironic

crux and gideon keep arguing and gideon starts reading her pedigree receipts

she says "I want you to know who I am!" and crux goes "You died as you lived, Gideon Nav—a disappointment to me—and to God"

idk if he was being an asshole on purpose so she'd kill him already or if he just wanted to be a nasty bastard until the very end

also, I don't know if gideon really believes all this, because we haven't seen her perspective in this book, but it'd be sad if she does

I mean, I get it, she lived without an identity and being naruto-ed in the ninth for it, and suddenly she's princess amelia mignonette thermopolis renaldi

but it'd be very sad if she thinks that what makes her worthy is who she was born as or who her father is and not who she actually is

we love you for you, gideon sweetie

more so in spite of your dad than because of him, actually

you're worthy just for existing and you've done good and brave things just being you, before you knew of your background

skeletons start coming up but when ice cube barbie lifts the sword, they all go like "better not"

now we're stating to call ice cube barbie "alecto", which I'm not gonna do, because that nickname was signaled upon me by apollo himself

and, now that I think about it, if this book was gonna be part 1 of alecto and then author got carried away, makes sense that it's the same bitch

anyway, pyrrha calls to ice cube barbie and she goes "he has never appeased me, and now all he has done was teach me how to die"

ice cube barbie remembers "the vow" and turns to harrowcita

she raises her sword, but then remembers her from her dreams and doesn't strike her

harrowcita tells her she's loved her all her life and that she can kill her if she wants

which would make this a very very bad day for gideon

ice cube barbie is angry but lifts her up and kisses her and draws blood, because she can't be not feral about anything

ice cube barbie is confused of why harrow isn't appeased by this because that's "how meat loves meat"

gotta teach this earth entity about different kinds of love

through harrow's blood, ice cube barbie understands what she is

at this point I went "a blender baby?"

but she says she's "the blood of the tomb keeper"

so then I got that she meant anastasia lol

ice cube barbie apologises for dr reverend emperor john killing anastasia's cav

testing my memory, these people, had to double check who samael was

she swears to harrowcita the way she swore to anastasia and says "I am in your service until you bid me the favour, and whatsoever you appoint I shall perform, and consider the vow rendered. This is what I promised, until such a time as you deal with me as you see fit"

harrow thinks she's not worthy of the vow

and then gideon, very angrily, shouts from the shore "Get in line, thou big slut"

there's a time skip then and ice cube barbie ends up in dr reverend emperor john's ship

she says she still finds the river dead

dr reverend emperor john is butt naked, drunk and looking a mess

ice cube barbie seems to be carrying an unconscious harrow around in one arm

which means we keep separating gideon and harrow and this is the slowest burn ever

I don't even know if they're endgame, at this point

that tagline I really have issues with, the one about the "lesbian necromancers in space", made me expect something entirely different by this point in time

ANYWAY

ice cube barbie is carrying the sword in her other hand

she uses it to stab dr reverend emperor john in the heart

but that just wakes him up and he says "Annabel, good morning"

Are SJM fans not aware of the world of a song of ice and fire? It's not only game of thrones?? GOT comes from A song of ice and fire (the main series) and House of the Dragon comes from Fire and Blood (basically a history book).

George has written one of the best worldbuilding I've seen in books, Sarah wish she could come up with that. It's so damn beautiful, I could shed a tear. Sarah's worldbuilding got some plot holes, confusing magic systems, and other stuff that don't make sense if you think into it.

Both got weird things in their stories, I can't lie. But George somehow finds a way to mostly have a reason for it (Not all of it though, not all of it. Targs gonna Targ with the inbreeding.) In A Court of Wings and Ruin, there are twins named Dagdan and Brannagh which are incestuous for no reason at all. It says they're sexual partners on the wiki page. Knock off Jaime and Cersei? Wait, that goes to Mor and Cassian. She had no reason for them to be partners like what the hell??

The amount of stories that could be turned into shows (small edit because I fucked up and put stories again)from George's work? That's much more than SJM's. Like we got another show coming out about King Aegon V and Duncan the tall (A knight of the seven kingdoms), one about Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys and the conquest for Westeros, Corlys and his nine voyages (The sea snake). The entirety of Fire and Blood could get adapted on screen.

We could still get shows adapted to the big screen even after George leaves this earth (peepaw is old, I'm worried and hoping he's staying healthy.)

DU drow asks time

Lore questions/sweet messages/stuff that made me laugh that's about DU drow specifically that I decided to compile in a single post!

First of all, "outraged to be used as a medium for old man gay divorce" is a hysterical sentence LOL

As for his thoughts on the Ansur debacle? Negative ones. He hates the emperor, he doesn't care about his third-time-twist real identity, he doesn't particularly care about Wyll either (well - he kind of finds him entertaining, he's kind of really frustrated by him, it's complicated) but he saved his dad on a whim to spite Mizora anyway. BUT HEY, all that trouble would have been worthwhile if he's about to get an ancient dragon fighting alongside him - this old duke sounds a little too confident in this fairy tale, but stranger things have happened, right?

Then the situation unfolds as it does, and if he wasn't eager enough to use that orphic hammer before, he certainly is now. There is very little that the Emperor does past Act 3 that DU drow doesn't find a way to twist into something that confirms his resolve against him. If he could have taken Ansur's side in that fight, he would have - not that he shed any tears over killing him either.

Sick sword though, that helped soothe his nerves a bit and I'm sure spared everyone a little bit of a tantrum at camp later.

HAHAHAHA I can't confirm nor deny because I see so few large body-type elves as it is (which is fair, elves aren't usually... That massive). I did set age to 50% because it does look a little weird when it's all smooth. Maybe that's the trick?

Though I guess if you find it unsettling, then... No wonder it suits him! however this just looks like an impressively handsome fella to me, to be honest. I insist on fucking him up further whenever I draw him for that reason.

I do actually have a couple of very short comics planned that take place pre-tadpole, but my backlog of WIPs is... Massive. Not to mention the commission work I do (currently not taking any more). I have one that's about his first interaction with Orin and another about a business dinner with Gortash gone-wrong, but I have no clue when I'll be able to work on them. Hopefully soon though!

Recurring ritual between himself and Orin that served to replace normal intimacy, pretty much.

EEEEHEHEH OKAYYY SO (keep in mind I have NOT read the book of bill yet due to not being able to easily get it in my country, I'll be getting it around december possibly?? So Bill 2nd dimension lore may be a bit off, not sure tho!!)

Also this will probably be a bit of a long rant, and possibly a bit messy and I have no idea if it'll make sense to anyone other than me..

Also Bill would have a nickname for Zane but I'm still brainstorming one so I guess he's just..Zane for now(/ref)

The basic idea is that Bill replaces Vex. We're gonna think about Bill's ability to see the 3rd dimension and how he's 'outcasted' like Vex's formlessness. Instead of him destroying his dimension, he travels away from everyone in a corner of the 2nd dimension and develops a personality quite similar to how he is in GF canon. (with a bit of Vex dropped in there but they're incredibly similar anyways).

Zane gets blasted by Aspheera but instead of ending up in the Never Realm, he ends up in the 2nd dimension, quite close to where Bill was at the time. Much like Zane and Vex, Bill saw Zane, Zane didn't see Bill. (I'll probably draw a visual on what Zane and Bill would look like in the 2 dimension compared to 2nd dimensional beings some time in the future).

Bill discovers another 3rd dimensional being! Yay!! (Bill pressures Zane into a deal by saying he can help him find home. (Play on words - Zane's new home is a mix between the Emperor's Castle and the Fearamid). Bill possesses Zane, navigates his robo brain, sees a whole thing in Zane's mind about his fear of memory erasure, ignores it, finds a way to erase his memories, and pulls a Vex.)

Bill possesses Zane in a way that Zane is still consciously inside of his body, but kind of shares it with Bill?? If this makes sense. So it's like a split personality sort of cliché thing between person and demon. Zane is still there so he can still power the scroll of forbidden spinjitzu, but Bill can project his own 3 dimensional 'powers' on it too.

Bill uses the scroll to turn the 2nd dimension 3 dimensional more intricately, unlike in GF canon where it just destroyed the entire thing.

And, due to time moving differently in Bill's perspective.. uhh Zane is there for a bit longer than 60 years 😁😁😁😁🤣🤣!!! (millennia)

Since the dimension is now 3D, 2D beings, (eg. Bill's family, diff shapes,) they have to try their best to navigate a 3D plane as 2D shapes. Basically moving across walls and some of the weird shit Bill and Zane make during this like, slightly ice oriented weirdmageddon.

Over these millennia, there would be times where Bill would go and explore other dimensions and bring back the henchmaniacs and all that, leaving Zane to just go insane and with all the weirdness around him, not knowing who he really is other than what Bill tells him. He tries his very damn well best to make sense of everything but just can't even though it's all he remembers.

Zane and Bill also form a close relationship that's kinda like a mix of Zane and Vex's relationship (power imbalance, and in the sense of how Vex manipulated Zane and would probably scold him for not doing stuff) and Bill and Ford's (In how they interact. Acting as if an idea was their own, praise, false sense of equality in their relationship).

(Also when I say 'relationship' I'm not necessarily saying I ship any of these characters romantically.)

There's probably so much more I could say, ESPECIALLY to do with the angst aspects, and I probably will rant more about this some time, but that's basically the big idea. But things may also change because I'm still building the AU up because it is actually quite a big thing to me :33

I was rewatching Crystalized with a friend recently and I was reminded just how much I HATE Return of the Ice Emperor

LIKE HOW DID THEY MANAGE TO GET HIS CHARACTER COMPLETELY WRONG IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE?????

I am actually so pissed at the way they handled his entire introduction and like, what, five minutes of screen time total?? He’s treated like a total joke, and to me, the guy who ruled as a dictator for sixty years and LITERALLY COMMITTED GENOCIDE shouldn’t be a joke just for the sake of being a joke.

I get that it’s a kids show and they can’t really delve into that too much, and making jokes in what should be serious situations is just par for the course, and I normally really like that, but there was not a single moment in that entire episode where he was treated seriously at all. Even the situation itself wasn’t treated seriously either?? Like it was essentially Pixal going “yeah this guy is really annoying” and everyone else going “yeah you’re right I hope you fix your boyfriend I guess” LIKE ACTUALLY SHUT UP.

His entire character, which I view to be a pretty serious villain [not making a bunch of jokes, treated kinda seriously by the plot, etc.] was thrown out the window because they needed a quick reference to Season 11 and this was the only way they could do that easily. [this leads into my larger issue that Crystalized’s plot was secondary to making the fans happy in the “final” season, but that is for another time] Like genuinely where did they get that guy that is not the Ice Emperor that is a whole different character. I might’ve been more chill with the jokes thing and character change if he at least acted a little bit like that during Season 11, but he didn’t. AT. ALL.

They even retcon this weird personality change in Quest for the Lost Powers too??? So like what was the point??!?

Also why was the whole episode named after him when he barely does anything or gets any screentime????? When I heard that episode title I was expecting some cool stuff that would have repercussions for episodes to come, but nooooo, the entire thing is wrapped up by the end of the episode and is never spoken of again. [just like the rest of Season 11, which I hate]

They could have easily done something so much cooler with him too?? Like didn’t the Overlord directly state that he was trying to corrupt the elements of creation??? And who’s right there?? The corrupted element of ice!!! In an incredibly weak state too so it’s not like he could have put up a fight if they tried to take him?? ITS LITERALLY PERFECT WHY DID THAT PLOTLINE GO NOWHERE??

Like I guess I can understand why they didn’t make him returning into a big plot point [it would have added wayy to much to an already convoluted plot] BUT THEN WHY BRING HIM BACK AT ALL???

I HATE THAT THAT WAS HIS LAST APPEARANCE IN THE SERIES LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!?!??!?!???

4. You Owe Me a Drink (Trans F!Bounty Hunter x Shae Vizla) This is a fic that holds a very special place in my heart. Star Wars: The Old Republic is responsible for some of my best fandom experiences, and I met most of my dearest friends through SWTOR. Ysaine Pierce, buff and sweet and accidentally a bounty hunter, falls in love with one of the fiercest Mandalorians in the galaxy. 3. Grief (F!Bounty Hunter x Arcann) Kol'aya was never supposed to be an important character for me, she was just one of my test characters that I used to run new content before I sent my mains in so that I knew what options to choose for them for perfect cut scene photo opportunities. And then she had to choose between saving her husband and saving another character, and I made her a widow... and the game never acknowledged her grief or the horror of what had happened. So I wrote about the fact that everyone of her companions ignored her pain, and realised that actually, she was an important character to me after all, and an emperor had fallen in love with her quietly in the background [click here for AO3]

2. A Heart As Cold As Ice (F!Drow Tav x Gale) I know it's only got 3 chapters so far but I'm so proud of this one. I love world-building, and the lack of anything resembling coherent world-building for drow means I can go crazy. The most recent chapter has the best fight scene I've ever written, and I'm just starting to get into the religious stuff now in upcoming chapters which I'm excited about [click here for AO3]

1.An Empire's Ransom (F!Jedi Knight x Thexan) This is THE fic. The one that changed everything for me. A silly whim, what if Thexan survived the SWTOR: Destiny trailer in 2015, and then suddenly I've written over a million words across 5 fics. It changed how I write fic, how I approach crafting a storyline and how I work on character growth. Looking at it almost 10 years later, there's a lot of things I'd change, but that's the nature of growth isn't it? It helped me to grow as a writer, and I'll always love it. I was actually thinking of posting like a layout, how I came to write this, the lore, the powers and stuff but since you asked, here it is.

Is it a genetic thing? Since both Kael and Zayne have ice.

Magic in this world isn’t taught through spells or rituals. It’s something you’re born with and is deeply connected to who you are inside. And yes genetics play a part, not all nobles or commoners have this gene. Not mentioned but i’d like to think their powers came from their mother who died giving birth to them, while the emperor has no real powers himself.

Bonus:

Each person’s power reflects their emotions, personality, and the things they struggle with. To truly use your magic, you have to accept yourself, flaws and all.

This is shown through the flashbacks where zayne tells reader not to control her fire, and that he doesn’t fear it, but respects it. This allows reader (not mentioned in the fic) to be able to wield it so easily.

And weakness is shown when kael tries to attack zayne, but reader easily melts his. Reason? Because he’s insecure, ignorant and cannot keep his emotions in check, a direct effect to his magic.

OK! to recap Ninjago! In a decently non-spoilerish way

Season 11, pt 1: The fire chapter. The gang get bored after saying the world from the oni so they set out on an adventure for some fun only along the way they accidentally free and accident Serpentine named Aspheera from her pyramid. Kai’s powers get stolen and Aspheera sets out to get Revenge on Wu. The ninja manage to beat her by finding a second version of her staff, which contains a special scroll called the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu, but only after Aspheera ends up sending Zane to another realm. Aspheera is then imprisoned in Kryptarium Prison

Season 11, pt 2: The ice chapter. Wu plans to travel to realm Zane was sent to alone but the ninja steal his travelers tea behind his back and end up stranded in the Never Realm; a realm trapped in an internal Winter. The ninja then loose their travelers tea to get back to Ninjago which causes Cole to feel a lot of guilt. They then meet the people of the realm and start to learn more about the Never Realm and the infamous Ice Emperor. Some stuff with Lloyd, Nya, Kai, and Cole happen but in the end they manage to find Zane and return back to Ninjago once they clean up the mess involving the Ice Emperor. (note; Kai gets his powers back in this half of the season)

Season 12: Prime Empire! Jay gets sucked into a video game along with many citizens of Ninjago City and to free him and the others the ninja look into the mysterious Milton Dyer but when that turns out to be a dead end the ninja hope into the video game as well where they find themselves in a battle against the villainous; Unagami

Season 13: Master of the Mountain. The ninja get an invitation to the majestic kingdom of Shintaro where they meet the wonderful Princess Vania and quickly find the villainous Skull Sorcerer forcinf members of the species of Geckles and Munce being forced to work in the mines below the Kingdom. When the ninja try to stage a jail break to free they get captured as well except for Cole. Cole, Vania, and Wu then end up falling to the bottom of kingdom’s mines while the Ninja escape and end up meeting the current leaders of the Geckles and Munce and find out why the two species hate each other. Cole meanwhile finds out more about his powers just in time to defeat the Skull Sorcerer in an epic final battle

Season 14 Special: The Island. The Ninja go looking for a misding Master Wu and Misako on an island surrounded by a violent storm only to meet the tribe on said island and find out that they are guarding an accident Storm Amulet. Jay almost gets sacrificed.

Season 14: Seabound. Nya’s powers start going haywire so Kai calls his parents so his mom can maybe come help Nya to figure out her powers. PIXAL and Zane however quickly find out that the thing causing Nya’s powers to go haywire might be coming from a pulse emanating out from sea so Nya, Jay, Lloyd, Zane, and PIXAL take a submarine out to check this pulse. The ninja then uncover the pulse is coming from the villain Kalmaar who is trying to unleash an ancient undersea evil on to land above.

Season 15: Crystalized. To fix a horrible event that happened in Seabound the ninja free Aspheera from prison only for the villainess to join a handful of other villains under the Crystal King who plans to exact his proper revenge against the ninja. Also Lloyd thinks he gets replaced by a plant.

So yeah. That’s what’s been happening. After Season 15 though Ninjago kinda got like, i wanna say a soft reboot and Lego came out with a new show; Dragons Rising which follow two new characters, Arin and Sora, after the events of the Merge which was basically this massive event which caused all of the 16 realms in the ninjago universe to crash/smash into each other and create and entirely new world.

And. Yup. have fun with that lore dump ig lol

So... My AU, which is basically just, this would be cool, and, The Owl House is cool. Meaning a lot of stuff does not make sense, and will probably be changed, also, I don't actually.. have much. But I do have the basic setup!

Belos finds King at some point, but not The Collector. With access to Titan's Blood Belos, at some point during being the emperor ends up creating a rift, this rift ends up bring Luz through, who is at this point much younger, and has lost her dad fairly recently, but does have the Azura book, and has enjoyed it. Belos uses this to get her to his side, being both a "Good Witch" and a parental male figure. He makes Luz believe she and him are better than everybody else, still not revealing he's human just incase, but making sure to emotionally separate her from others. He already had a Grimwalker at this point, young, but no longer needed with another human here. And it may be detrimental to have the two together, he decides to exterminate this Grimwalker for now. After failing to find the Grimwalker, makes a point to have lookouts for it so it can be brought to him. He claims it is a rogue witch gone mad with Wild Magic, the same that killed his family. At some point, Eda while trying to find a safe place to stay, finds The Collector, a kid with fuzzy memories, that claims not to be a living shadow despite definitely being a living shadow. She accepts it, and takes the Glass they're attached to with her, at the request of The Collector.

During the time the rift was open, Hunter ended up going through it. After a while of straight up just starving, is found by Camilla Noceda, who has basically just lost her entire family. She found him while searching for Luz. And gets him to come to her house with her to call about, where is this kid from. With maroon eyes, long ears, and looking like he came right out of a fantasy book, she has a lot of questions, barely any of them get answered. She ends up taking in Hunter for until his actual family is found, which is apparently made up of just his uncle. She assumes a lot of it is just a child's loose understanding of big scary concepts, since apparently his entire family other than his uncle, is dead. Of course, she never finds her daughter, or Hunter's Uncle.

Hunter Noceda ends up being bullied, because yeah he looks different, maroon eyes and long ears don't make you popular. He ends up being a bit of a loner and kinda edgy. These traits are kinda because he was bullied, but end up making him even more a target of bullying... Not great. He ends up being sent to a summer camp to hopefully make some actual friends. Not Reality Check of course. But a Summer Camp. He ends up throwing away the pamphlet, but feels bad and goes back to grab it.. Until he sees that an OWL is carrying their trash away. And he is PRETTY sure Owl's cannot hold that much weight! Things happen, plot stuff I haven't written, plans I have for cool stuff. Yeah. Another change that was purely because I thought it'd be cool, Glyphs! I changed the Glyphs, purely because it'd be cool, nothing to explain why just because it's an AU, maybe it's why certain things happened different butterfly effect and all. Electricity, Crystal, Air, Liquid. Electricity creating sparks of lightning, a big flash of light and shower of sparks, as well as being able to charge things. Crystal, basically Ice, but not as cold, and will probably be used as a shank or direct weapon more, and can creep up things, encase stuff, yeah. Air, usually just a really strong gust of wind, but can turn liquids to steam or vapor... Which will probably be the first clue to try Glyph combos! Liquid, the second component to that, can create a splash of boiling sea by default, I'm thinking soaked in specific liquids can recreate them. But boiling.

As I said earlier at the top, this was made because I thought it'd be cool, and then did it, and because I think The Owl House is cool.

tbh I do *kinda* ship Ice Emperor and Vex but only in certain scenarios.

Medium length ramblings below.

A key element in Bitter Cold is the massive separation between the Ice Emperor and Zane. At this point in the story the Ice Emperor isn't just a "fucked up Zane", he is his own person completely who just so happens to be sharing a body with someone else.

I can't imagine a situation in which Zane would have remotely positive feelings towards Vex after everything that happened (unless it takes place in a happy au were Vex is a good guy or some messed up Stockholm Syndrome thing???). Only the Ice Emperor feels closely bonded towards Vex. No one else sees him the way the Ice Emperor sees him. In Bitter Cold its entirely queerplatonic between them and they are very attached to each other.

In earlier chapters I was still unsure of how I wanted to cement their relationship but I think that the best way to handle it is making it vague and interpretative to the audience. Maybe at one point they did harbor some unspoken romantic feelings towards each other, but it had gotten buried underneath years of distrust and isolation. Vex especially has some major internalized homophobia that he is dealing with that his father imposed on him.

I do once in a while like to read or look at Ice Emperor x Vex stuff and its soooo good. Maybe one day I'll write fic of my own about it but not right now. Just another thing to add to my impossibly long list of fic ideas for Ninjago. (;_;)

AIIII OKIE buckle in it's a bit of a ride

(the second one of those is them as a little kid, the other two they're more grown up)

They're human, fully an ordinary human up until they're not. Ordinary, I mean

They realized at about 13 that they were queer, and absolutely did not tell anyone and also tried to repress it bc they were raised to believe queer was Bad and Evil and blah blah blah (this is the emperor's fault and one of many reasons to hate him. he likes conformity and everyone doing what he says). That secrecy led to them also keeping their magic very very secret when it came in at 14.

Four years later they met a pretty faerie and kissed her. She was the first queer person they'd met, and they promptly ran away with her (this is when they choose the name Destiny) and got adopted into the same werewolf pack that'd taken her in. They are still keeping their magic secret, but now that they're dating a girl they start slipping more into their true self-- first a haircut, then 'pretending' to be a boy, to actually being a boy for a bit...

...to meeting a crow with no concept of human gender and figuring out they like 'they' best

Also by then they've half-accidentally revealed their magic. which is like. really fuckin powerful and also super rare bc everyone else with it gets taken away by the Emperor of the world and no one ever hears from them again

also the werewolves who adopted Destiny? are working with a network of rebels who are trying to take down the emperor. and they want Destiny's help. Des agrees, mainly bc they don't want to live in a world where they can't be true to themself, and they can help make things better

Annyyyways there is now a song about them (which I had to write, help (and then my friend is writing music for bc aaaaaa)) (in-story Vida wrote it)

their powers include: teleportation, elemental control (mainly fire bc they have a fire demon teacher, but they've also done earth and ice), transformation (another of their teachers is a werewolf), illusion, communication with their familiar, Nayan (the aforementioned crow- whose concept of gender is 'some of us lay eggs idk'), healing people, magically cleaning things (they used to always do the dishes this way), and yelling at people in power (Nayan calls this a threat display. Destiny calls it stop screwing with me Nox).

Other fun little things!

-given the language that we use, Des would probably id as nonbinary and bi/pansexual (partly depends on When storywise bc rn they're the only enby they know). as is they id as "I'm not a boy or a girl I'm a they" and "idk there are pretty people but the prettiest is Vida"

-their newest nickname for their girlfriend, Vida, is "meri jaan", or "my life". the first time they call her that is after Vida gets arrested for singing about Destiny. bc singing about how the king of the world is "a coward and a fucking fraud" and is going to get beaten by a young upstart mage is treason, who knew

-(they're so absolutely furious about this btw. it's very sweet)

-Destiny keeps being impulsive but it keeps working out so

-I've said this before and I'll say it again: I love how Destiny was raised being told "don't give your name to strangers bc faeries can use it to steal you away" and then the first faerie they meet they try TWICE to give her their name and she says no (it's their deadname but it wasn't at that point)

-in a modern AU Des would be Indian or Indian-American and an activist, but I haven't figured out for exactly what. probably for queer rights, at least at first

-Destiny is 19 at the point I am in writing

-Nayan likes to call them "my Destiny" and when they speak out loud (as crows can do) they always choose Destiny's voice to speak with

-they like having long hair, but they do NOT like getting mistaken for a girl. After The Haircut that helps them realize some gendery stuff, they grow their hair out again even longer than before

Someday I'm gonna write a big thing about the relationship between Final Fantasy and theater, but if I do that I would have to tackle everything that is going on in FFXIV's Ivalice raids and I don't know if I'm strong enough to --

SO. The Ivalice raids series is based on the plot, characters, and situations of Final Fantasy Tactics, a game inspired by the historical War of the Roses, especially as told by Shakespeare.

In it, there is a popular, Shakespeare-ish play based on in-universe historical events that MIGHT be a canon AU of Final Fantasy Tactics. The play was beloved by (among other things) patron of the arts Emperor Solus zos Galvus, a creature who is heavily associated with The Tempest and Prospero via location names, song lyrics, and probably some other stuff I don't remember. The play is put on by a troupe of actors on a travelling theater/airship called the Prima Vista, which is also the name of another combination stage/airship of ANOTHER troupe of actors (and thieves) that put on Shakespeare-ish plays in Final Fantasy IX.

I have a decent enough knowledge of history and Shakespeare and FFXIV where I could fill in the gaps and explain all this where I need to. However, the knowledge of FF Tactics (and maybe FFXII) I would need to fully explain Everything That This Is Doing makes me want to gnash my teeth and pull out my hair.

A footnote: Game of Thrones slash A Song of Ice and Fire is notably ALSO loosely inspired by the war of the roses and there is ANOTHER kinship there because translator Alexander O. Smith was using A Song of Ice and Fire as a style guide when he worked on the localizations of Vagrant Story (a game where Shakespeare references are added in the English that aren't there in the Japanese) and Final Fantasy XII, so this has come to be the English dialect of the Ivalice setting and other Final Fantasy settings that are mimicking it (XVI, parts of XIV and XI). Notably, the original English translation of FF Tactics is pretty bad to the point of being occasionally incomprehensible. The later "War of the Lions" ports of it are better, but imo they're going for Alexander O. Smith's style and missing the mark by a bit.

I said I was gonna respond to some, so well, here we are. I’ll just do a post per hot take, cause some of these I have way too much to say, and I want to shout out people who made these in the first place. (Please support these people, even if you don’t agree with what they said.)

I’m going to repeat this for every post: I’m going to approach these hot takes in two ways: How hot I think they are as takes, and whether or not I agree with the take. Know that I’m just using both of these to reflect on others opinions, which is always fun to see, and I will try to be as respectful as possible to the person. (You guys be respectful too) And as always reblog some of your hot takes in either this post or the other one, preferably the other one.

I don’t know if you follow my blog or not, but… I don’t think you were trying to win with Agreement points with me.

People who know me KNOW that’s my least favorite season. So tragically I personally do not agree with this at all.

There was just so SO so SO MUCH wrong with it for me. From the many filler episodes that were not justified in the narrative, to Aspheera just being a total cliche of a villain and an annoying character at that, (At least Crystalized mocked her), to the misuse of certain characters, to the length not being justified, to the use of the Ice Emperor…

I could be here all day. You get it.

I’ll admit there’s SOME stuff I like. Some good scenes, a good concept, the use of the Never Realm is pretty neat. But it’s not enough for me to put it higher.

So instead for this one, I’m gonna talk more about the Spiciness side of this.

Tbh, I don’t think it’s as Spicy as you think it is. I’ve actually seen multiple Tumblr Posts and YouTube videos defending this season and giving very persuasive arguments as to why it’s a good season.

I don’t agree with said arguments. But I have to confess it’s very neat to see people praise this season. I’m happy they enjoy a season of this show that I don’t as much. And I want to give more power towards that.

I don’t think it’s as unpopular as you think. I think you’ll find some pretty big Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitsu fans. Are there people like me who dont like it? Yes. But not as many as you think.

I feel like whenever this show has a season that’s not top tier, people REALLY love to point out the negative stuff in that season. And then other people just jump on the hate train cause it seemed like the objective take. And that’s true for any fanbase, not just Ninjago.

So when this season was being as experimental as it was, and people weren’t vibing it at first, they were quick to label it as one of the worst seasons. Which I dont think was entirely fair. The exact same thing can happen to overhyped things. Then people come back to it and realize it’s not as good as they thought it was.

That’s not entirely the case for me, as this is so far the ONLY season where I actually gave up 5 Episodes in.

Then I came back to the season next year, after the hate was died down because Master of the Mountain was airing and I needed to catch up. So I saw Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitsu and Prime Empire and… yeah. I didn’t like Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitsu. But at least I can safely say I formed my own opinion rather than rely on the Internet.

I tend to do that a lot for Ninjago. I started watching the show when Rebooted was coming out, got upset at the ending cause I was a kid and loved Zane, so I stopped watching it. Then I came back around Hands of Time airing, watched the other seasons. Then I was there when Sons of Garmadon came out.

You might be shocked to hear this, but when Sons of Garmadon first aired, I DID NOT LIKE IT. It was too different to my dumb early teen self, and I was just angry at the cliffhanger.

Do I stand by that now? No. I was an IDIOT back then. It’s one of the best seasons of the show ever.

So you kinda get a picture on what I’m trying to say.

I think some people have done the same for Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitsu as well.

I’ll give you a 5 for Spiciness for this reason.

But only a 2 for Agreement.

ALSO, does Jay learn ab Harumi and the Overlord and all that stuff or does Crystalized just never happen, giving him no reason to learn about all that?

OUGH honestly i'll let y'all in on a little secret this au isn't just my excuse to give Jay more Main Character Energy it's also an excuse to have fun with Zane huehue

the ice emperor stuff does happen, yes! it's after Prime Empire (PE in this AU takes place where Skybound was supposed to happen, and Skybound ends up taking place AFTER Secrets of the FS. bunch of wacky timeline stuff i'm still working out) i already have plans about i'm gonna handle that season because honestly the canon events were. hmm. not DISAPPOINTING but not as well paced as they could've been (also i love ice emperor so much so i will take Any Excuse to delve more into that concept)

Jay does know about Harumi cuz he's there for the events of the Oni Trilogy. As for how I'm doing Crystalized I'm honestly not sure yet bc i haven't finished. the season HGKJFDHSGKJDFSHGKJDFHSKJ but i do know things between Harumi and the Overlord happen... differently because of a certain other character

As for if Jay learns about the Overlord before that season happens...
