#another goddamn yanmullet au

thinking about stan going back in time peggy sue-style pre-portal incident and him becoming more of a yandere BECAUSE of it

ok i know i’ve already got like one and a half of these but here me out

the distinction with the standere time travel au is that in this, when stan goes back, he hasn’t completely falled off his rocker yet. but he — eventually — does.

he’d start out doing normal “prevent what will happen from happening” things. making sure ford doesn’t start working on the portal, stuff like that. but he progressively gets more and more paranoid.

in this au i’m imagining stan gets sent back when the wound is still fresh. he’s still struggling to sleep because of it. and he can’t risk ford ending up… there. whatever “there” is. he can’t risk it again. he just… can’t. he has to keep an eye out on ford, he has to watch him, even if it’s from afar, to make sure he’s okay, that he doesn’t get hurt like that ever again.

but then stan starts freaking out MORE. he doesn’t really understand the paranormal that well. ford’s line of work is pretty dangerous, regardless — every minor scrape sends stan into a hypochondria-by-proxy panic about what could happen to ford. he has to keep watching keep protecting it’s the only thing he can do to make up for the ways he fucked up ford’s life

stan’s good at stalking protecting him, too. ford gets suspicious when things start going too well for him — he always happens to have what he needs. ford assumes it’s of supernatural origin. ford tries to track whatever’s causing this down…

only to find a disheveled, exhausted, deranged version of his estranged twin brother.

(talk about a role reversal, huh?)
