cain breathes in, back out, flexes his fingers into his palm. the gloves are thick, grounding, rough fabric pushing against the uneven lines crossing over his hands. the gear is telling, just like their decision to lurk through the shadows between streetlights instead of simply strolling down the sidewalk confesses a secret. their mask is heavy in their backpack, but not visible - they can salvage this.

one side of his mouth pulls outward in a crooked grin. cain rocks back on his heels, shoulders lifting in a shrug.

“ not as long as you fear, ” they answer cryptically. he tugs a hand through his own hair, disheveling the strands that have fallen to stick to the sweat on his forehead. “ but longer than you hope. ”

ϟ Oh, absolutely. Clark doesn't resort to personalized violence often. He's one to react more than be the first to make a move. But if you've put him in a position that he has to retaliate or make moves he wouldn't have otherwise made, he'd going to enjoy whatever strife he causes.

That aside, I've talk a bit about his views on bullies and egocentric people and predators and blah blah. There's def' a certain pleasure he reaps from towering over and harming those that felt so confident in their position to harm others.

✦ I don't think he has one? If he HAD to pick one, maybe any sort of 'wronged and kinda sorta justified' villain like Maleficent, ig. I think he also just sort of respects Ursula's hustle lmao.

standard theme: ozar midrashim by information society. i am pretty sure holly showed me this one forever ago back before ardaka was even an oc yet but it's still on all his playlists. here's another one with a different vibe that i also find pretty fitting: wolf drawn by emancipator.

battle theme: escape from midwich valley by carpenter brut. the sort of thing that would play when talon is hunting / attacking people.

boss battle theme: dark prince by atrey. i put this one on all his playlists but i can't help it. like the last song, it's the sort of synth-y music i associate with him the most.

emotion theme: the way by zack hemsey. there's one with lyrics that is also pretty fitting but for the sake of keeping the theme i used the instrumental version here. alternatively: reflections by jack wall.

     the moon hangs low and orange in the sky, baleful where it watches them, and vex's words slice through their ribs like a blade. their heart lurches, squeezing painfully; for half a second, they could believe it's been rent in two.

     they know he doesn't mean anything by it. not directly. he's always been curious about everything theo is and the memories they hold between the plates of their skull. it was only a matter of time before he stumbled upon the memories that keep theo awake at night, tossing and turning and wishing with every fiber of their being that they could change the past.

     he thinks of tertia's fingers carding through his hair, gentle and stained with ink from her stories. they think of volesus curled up in the cradle of their arms, dark eyelashes aflutter as he dreamed.

     “ maybe i'm not afraid of being in love, ” they begin quietly, gaze on their own knuckles. they trace the blemishes there without really seeing them, smoothing over a particularly large scar with a thumb. “ maybe, instead, i am afraid of falling love again. ” his smile is shaky, bittersweet, like the last leaf desperately holding on as winter begins. vex's head nudges against their shoulder, cheek leaned to the meat of it, and theo sighs wistfully. “ historically, it hasn't gone very well for me. ”
