12. Does Rook have any family? Do they keep in touch?

He does have the people that raised him in Necropolis + he considers teachers also to be family bc they Did act as parental figures and stand in family members for him growing up … did drop out of contact post having to Leave Necropolis . Because a) fuck you guys and b) he Knows that sending letters and whatnot could get the others looked into bc hey …. Why is That Guy still in constant communication ….. we banished him ….. he was a group effort LMFAO most of the senior members of the Mourn Watch probably had a hand in his upbringing

I do think he feels a sort of familiar attachment to wisps as well like not really family in the traditional sense but still . They were with him when no one else was …. Also he liked to cup them in his hands and whisper talk to them . His closest confidants are floating orbs

Now that he can travel to the necropolis Easy keeping in touch is way easier . He likes it

20. What’s it like to see them smile? Their laugh?

His laugh is very wheezy … think of wind in the trees sort of sound . Quiet . You can miss it if you’ re not waiting to hear it or if the world around is louder than him . His smile is lopsided bc he has lost some feeling in the right side of his face so the left side is doing more work , so he’ ll turn his head to show more of his left side . And he will brush the hair out of his face so that it Is visible . It’ s a very quiet and soft thing … it isn’ t loud or bright but it’ s mellow and easy . His happiness is just like that

Okay . His issue is he has a sort of disconnect in his head for what trust means . If you can be in a room alone with him then … that’ s trust . Right ? Like he must trust you because he can handle you being around him alone . He thinks he trusts Varric because he passes that test and the fact they get along a bit . But he really doesn’ t trust him in the sense he could talk to him , or be open about things other than the mission

To Actually get his trust is like dropping marbles into a plinko machine and waiting for it to take the right path . Like there is the basics of ‘ be normal about the necromancy thing ‘ ‘ be normal about elves ‘ but sometimes it really is catching him at the right time and asking the right question for him to genuinely start to trust subconsciously . You have to catch him by the fire and offer him a warm drink . Or bring up the right story during dinner while traveling .

Right place right time is so important . It’s also not gradual at all it goes from “ trust “ to Trust like a flip of a coin . He is not fucking around

13. Did Rook bring any trinkets/sentimental items to The Lighthouse?

Hms …. I dont think he’ s in the habit of keeping sentimental things on his person actually .. the most is like . Old pocket book about the practices from Nevarra . The decor he sets up in his room I like to believe it the Fade meshing with his memories and isn’ t the actually objects he’ s remembering . The real things is the pocket book and like . An old necklace he cannot wear at risk of breaking it but it was a parting gift he was given when he was young by a spirit . Thats kinda it …

16. Got any tattoos? What’s the story behind them?

Really he just has them bc he likes the designs . Genuinely no other deeper reason behind it besides he wants to look nice like painted pottery . Vaguely connected to his studies but not deeply meaningful in any way . He’ s a details kinda guy and hoooly shit tattoos are sooo good to do that with . QUICK DOODLE UPON ME

26. Rook is in charge of the grocery list. What’s on it?

A lot of preserved foods . Pickled whatever , jams and spreads , preserved meats … he’ s getting things that don’ t run a high risk of spoiling even if they … might not spoil at all in the fade . Besides that , probably sweets ? Like sweet bread and fruit danishes , things that are like grab - and - go . rip anobiidae you would have loved high sugar content cereal and 5 dollar beef jerky packets

Always … the Wisps . They ‘ play ‘ with each other ( float by each other and vaguely orbit each other and brush against each other ) and . Well . Also the little bits of mischief they do get up to … Sorry Neve but Anobiidae is endlessly amused by them taking her things and constantly bugging her a little bit . Its sweet to him , in a comedic way

17. How’d Rook get those scars?

All magics related .. the one of his face is from necrotic magic gone wrong . The touch to his face was brief but the damage was done , he’ s learned to live with it . He has a webbing of thin scars on his body and that is ! Also ! The magics … his palms and tips of his fingers too are scarred .. listen . He was a bit too eager to show off how well he was at necrotic and ice magic and he ended up paying for it . He was a good mage but an Awful Student

Most of them ( aside from the face ) are hidden under body paint ( or gloves ) 9 / 10 so most don’ t even notice them at all

38. Did Rook have any relationships before Veilguard?

Not really … ? He never had anything develop outside looking at each other for too long and maybe brushing hands when we walk beside each other .. + when he was peak getting Good Grade at Mourn Watch he was like “ a relationship might distract me … plus thats like dating a coworker I wont do that . “ then post having to gtfo his reasoning was “ I am SOOO not stable enough if someone looks at me for a second too long I might imprint or get fucking mean “ . So yeah he has relationship experience and its all . Um . Well

Dust …. I think a general scent of old parchment is kinda stuck to him . Along with the scent of pressed flowers . Vaguely sweet but definitely earthy and definitely the lingering traces of Necropolis just always There
