Psychological Warfare of the Malayan Emergency by Herbert A. Friedman (Ret.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have you ever been taught a version of history at school that seems weirdly simplistic? And then years later, you find more evidence that shows the whole affair was a giant, complicated mess?
Guess what I learned over the past few months about the Malayan Emergency.
For context, the Malayan Emergency was a conflict that raged in the British colony of Malaya from 1948 until the 1960s between communist forces and the British government, later continued by the independent Malayan government. The government forces won, but any school teachings of the conflict was presented in a manner that simplified the complex (and often, grey) nature of the Emergency.
I knew since then that a lot of truths were hidden away, but I didn't realize that there was a psychological aspect to the Emergency until I stumbled upon this webpage by a retired military officer about it. Given the length of the information provided and that it's the only one of it's kind — and therefore at risk of information loss if deleted, I sought to bookbind it. Pictures and all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given the amount of information contained and the sheer number of images, this project took about a month!
I had to divide the continuous stream of information in the webpage into readable chapters.
Then, I had to layout the images with the text, which was actually harder than expected — the size of the image could shift relevant text into the following pages, so it was a process of balancing image size to textual placement.
In-between that was the regular work of typesetting, but also of formatting quotes and examples, of which there were a lot.
And then there were pages that required special attention. For example, these pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pages on the right was relatively simple — a double-sided leaflet that could be showcased in a double-page spread, with contextual information in the following pages.
On the left however, to create the list of dead / living people, I had to finagle a table in Microsoft Word and constantly adjust the cell size to make the long names and positions fit. The whole endeavor was an exercise in patience.
Leafing through the pages, there are some parts I am annoyed with, such as pictures on the right page with their annotated message in the following left page. But as it is, I'm just glad this is done.
Special thanks to SGM Herbert A. Friedman (Ret.) for compiling this information that astonished me to create this bookbind.

Since sharing this post about a usful AI used to compile and graph research papers, I've realised I have a few other resources I can share with people!
Note: I haven't had a chance to use every single one of these. A group of post-grad students has been slowly compiling an online list, and these are some I've picked out that are free (or should be free and also have paid versions). However, other students using them have all verified them as safe.
Inciteful (Using Citations to Explore Academic Literature | Inciteful.xyz) – similar to connectedpapers + researchrabbit. Also allows you to connect two papers and see how they are linked. Currently free.
Spinbot (Spinbot - Article Spinning, Text Rewriting, Content Creation Tool.) – article spinner + paraphraser. Useful for difficult articles/papers. Currently free (ad version).
Elicit (Elicit: The AI Research Assistant)  – AI research assistant, creates workflow. Mainly for lit reviews. Finds relevant papers, summarises + analyses them, finds criticism of them. Free (?)
Natural Reader (AI Voices - NaturalReader Home (naturalreaders.com)) – text to speech. Native speakers. Usually pretty reliable, grain of salt. Free + paid versions.
Otter AI (Otter.ai - Voice Meeting Notes & Real-time Transcription) – takes notes and transcribes video calls. Pretty accurate. Warn people Otter is entering call or it is terrifying. Free + paid versions.
Paper Panda (🐼 PaperPanda — Access millions of research papers in one click) – get research papers free. Chrome extension. Free.
Docsity (About us - Docsity Corporate) – get documents from university students globally. Useful for notes.
Desmos (Desmos | Let's learn together.) – online free graphing calculator. Free (?)
Core (CORE – Aggregating the world’s open access research papers) – open access research paper aggregation.
Writefull (Writefull X: AI applied to academic writing) – Academic AI. Paraphrasing, title generator, abstract generator, apparently ChatGPT detector now. Free.
Photopea (Photopea | Online Photo Editor) – Photoshop copy but run free and online. Same tools. Free.
Draw IO (Flowchart Maker & Online Diagram Software) – Flowchart/diagram maker. Free + paid versions.
Weava (Weava Highlighter - Free Research Tool for PDFs & Webpages (weavatools.com)) – Highlight + annotate webpages and pdfs. Free + paid versions.
Unsplash (Beautiful Free Images & Pictures | Unsplash) – free to use images.
Storyset (Storyset | Customize, animate and download illustration for free) – open source illustrations. Free.
Undraw (unDraw - Open source illustrations for any idea) – open source illustrations. Free.
8mb Video (8mb.video: online compressor FREE) – video compression (to under 8mb). Free.
Just Beam It (JustBeamIt - file transfer made easy) – basically airdrop files quickly and easily between devices. Free.
Jimpl (Online photo metadata and EXIF data viewer | Jimpl) – upload photos to see metadata. Can also remove metadata from images to obscure sensitive information. Free.
TL Draw (tldraw) – web drawing application. Free.
Have I Been Pwned (Have I Been Pwned: Check if your email has been compromised in a data breach) – lets you know if information has been taken in a data breach. If so, change passwords. Free.
If you guys have any feedback about these sites (good or bad), feel free to add on in reblogs or flick me a message and I can add! Same thing with any broken links or additions.

Would you be willing to talk about the inspiration for you sinti, shunti, kanunuk, & nunni designs? They're really cool!
absolutely !!! :D i usually have pretty explicit stuff that im referencing or am inspired by so im always happy to share <3
*ramble incoming*
Tumblr media
[the dr pepper cans are how you know im a real southern usa babe. earlier today there was 5 empty cans in a row until i put them in the recycle bin]
i take a Lot out of the book "sun circles and human hands: the southeastern indians - art and industry" (2001 edition, not the 1957 one) which i have a physical copy of and i have sticky notes tabbing out out and also annotated highlighting every mention of the chickasaw and of sites where i know the chickasaw [or our ancestors, like the chicaza and other early mississippian/SE ntv cultures] so i can reference stuff i know would be from us, but i also take inspiration from all the designs in it because we were all a part of an interconnected cultural network of art
if you are from a tribe that would be from mississippian culture or the southeastern ceremonial complex/southeastern cult as it used to be called, or you know your people wouldve come from places within that like spiro or moundville, and you want to bring more native styling into your art this is THEEE book i would recommend. it is insanely useful. i cant vouch 100% for the text of it, and the second half is mostly kinda grainy b&w scanned photos of pottery and other items lmao, but the first half has lineart depictions OF designs found, with the attribution for the site they were found at. it is a Massive wealth of symbols and style and has been the best thing for wanting to study and emulate SE ndn art. for real i lent a copy to my grandma and then couldnt find where it was and i had to just order a new copy bc i use it so damn much
like i would post pages of it, and before i bought it i survived off the pinterest pics of scanned pages, but i cannot say enough just buy the book and look through it bc its just perfect its so useful. just posting a few pages doesnt do any justice to the wealth of style and art in it. ive tried to make myself some mock style/symbol guides from it, but even those fail to capture the variety of stuff in there and its why i still have it on hand for reference bc every time i get stumped theres so many ideas in there
but ok . book rec rant over (partly.)
i had done sinti homma, the red snake earlier, and i wanted to do a little motley of other simple transparent animals to go with it. so i did! ive got a few different animals that i played with doing, but a lot of them ended up veering too much off of the more hardline ntv style i wanted to do, and the others didnt fit the guideline i had made - i wanted them all to have a pointed tail that pointed to some corner of the frame, and curl around in the square a bit to have more of a sense of motion. i was thinking deer, turtle, spider... but none of those really fit that. so i flipped thru SC&HH for some ideas and came up with some :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the bottom left one on the first pic there gave me a good idea of what to do with a rat tail, and on the bottom right of that same pic is the Fattest fucking fish and i lifted a lot of that design to use for my fish (and while we're here, the rattler tails on the top right of that pic were what i used for sinti hommas tail), and the bottom left on the second pic gave me the idea for the lizards legs/feet shape, and then i used the chickasaw vocab flashcards of animals to think of animal ideas and so i used the pinti from there to jump me off into doing a rat
theyre all named after the chickasaw words - sinti (snake), shunti (rat/rodent), kanunuk (lizard, specifically green striped lizard, which is why i made it green with stripes lol), nunni (fish) . i use the chickasaw dictionary webpage a lot these days though i should use my dictionary copies more bc they use the spelling style i dont prefer lol
i also want to do maybe a sort of pop art style big print of them, like repeated with different colors behind them? and/or them in a medicine wheel? but those are still wip so we shall see!

Do you have sources for any of the things you've been talking about lately (the different programming types, hc-did, basically all of it)? I'd really like to do some more reading on this stuff but I've found a grand total of One book and most of the rest of the stuff is social media posts with no references, or references to other social media posts :(
Our top three “sources” are usually our system, late night conversations with irl friends, and social media.
The biggest issue isn’t actually a lack of resources, but a lack of good resources. Survivors put out material before they realize they got something wrong. The clinicians that work with us are the same, and the first generation of papers were shots in the dark and fear of lies that hadn’t been exposed yet.
There’ll be a lot about a big, networked Cult, usually either the Illuminati or Luciferians. Plenty of government conspiracy theories, references to projects that sometimes do get evidence. Then there’s the regular racism and Christian lens.
If you’re looking for overviews and definitions, they got taken down here are some good websites:
https://www.ra-free.org/complexities-of-identifying-ritual-abuse - not a lot of information, lists studies and professionals
https://endritualabuse.org/full-article-index/ - lots of good articles, some really helpful, others had me cocking my head
https://www.cherylrainfield.com/articles-cult-abuse/ - more about the author than the issue, some useful links on that page
There used to be more. Two others, one about spin programming and one about colors, are still up, but a little out there. You’ll know if you see them
Some books with more details. Not good books, just books:
https://ia803208.us.archive.org/34/items/BecomingYourself.Miller/BecomingYourself.Miller.pdf - the single best thing I’ve found and I still have complaints, this version is unformatted but free
https://ia803400.us.archive.org/28/items/chainless-slaves-annotated/Chainless%20Slaves%20-%20Annotated.pdf - I didn’t like it, lots of certain language for iffy concepts, has a list of programs and alter roles
https://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/document?repid=rep1&type=pdf&doi=89e823aedc9c69ffd8d715757c86878af27c37c9 - not a fan, also lots of funky ideas and hate-based rhetoric, has lists of programs and cues
There are lots of survivor autobiographies and outsider opinions, but I don’t have free links to those
Keep in mind that getting out of a high control group sucks ass, and most accounts (even if they claim to have healed) have the remnants of the abusive ideologies.
I still prefer hearing from other survivors what happened, and I find it easier to validate people I can easily contact. I’ll keep the webpage if I find anything I can’t just Google, but this is what I can pull right now.
It’s not great, buddy, but it’s something.

genius lyrics dot com is a disease. the annotations are so bland and ineffectual, the color scheme wounds me, and I hate that clicking on an annotation and then out of the sidebar counts as visiting two separate webpages. why am I hitting the back button twenty times to get out of this shitty website??? who designed that shit!
par exemple:

(all time low by jon bellion)
did we really need an annotation on this? do we as readers and listeners really need linked surveys and numbers quantifying something as common as masturbation among two genders just because a song mentions it?? even when it's a really goddamn straightforward line????? (and listen I love this song but there's no fucking need to explain that people masturbate and sometimes they do it when they're sad and lonely)

This natural breed of Israel dates back to pre-Biblical times and was the guard and herding dog of the ancient Israelites. As the Hebrew population was dispersed, many Canaans took up residence in the Negev Desert and remained mostly undomesticated except for some that attached themselves to the Bedouin and earned their keep as herders. Bold title: What is a Canaan Dog?
The Canaan Dog, also known as Kelev K'naani, is a recent breed out of ancient Pariah Dog stock, and is the unique project of a pair of scientists, Drs. Rudolph and Rudolphina Menzel, dog experts and world authorities on Pariah Dogs, who loved Pariah Dogs and considered them worthy progenitors of what would become the modern Canaan Dog.
The Canaan Dog was begin yellow highlight annotation developed from redomesticated Pariah Dog stock capitured in the Palestine end yellow highlight annotation, where they were first used for guarding and tending cattle and sheep. The Israelis have since used the Canaan Dog for guard duties, as mine detectors during war times, as messengers, and as Red Cross helpers. The Canaan Dog possesses extremely keen senses of hearing and smell, and he can detect approaching intruders from a considerable distance, becoming instantly alert. He is an intelligent, trainable breed whose tracking ability is excellent. He shows definite talent as a stock dog and is able to compete in herding events. However, he does not perform as does a Border Collie or Kelpie with that degree of "eye". When raised with children and other pets, he becomes a devoted family companion and natural watchdog. He is aloof with strangers, inquisitive, loyla, and loving with his family. Because of the strong "denning" instinct of their recent semi-wild past, the Canaan Dog is naturally clean and easily housebroken. He does not require an excessive amount of exercise. End ID.

Bottom, smaller text: Founded 1884.
At their luxurious villa in the 1920s, the Menzels founded a dog training school. There, the two conduct research and wrote books on canine behavior and scenting ability. Rudolphina taught then-popular military breeds like German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, and Boxers – the latter of which she also bred – to guard, attack, and track. Though Austrian born, the Menzels were an ardent Zionists, and the dogs they trained for the German and Austrian armies were taught to obey commands only in Hebrew, a bitter irony considering how they were used as the Nazi regime progressed.
For more than a decade before she fled Austria, Rudolphina Menzel had been working with Zionists in Palestine, selling them trained dogs; hosting members of the Haganah, the precursor to the Israel Defense Forces, so they could learn her training methods, and giving courses at kibbutzes on training guard dogs. End ID.
ID. Screenshot of continued article text: With their arrival in Palestine on the eve of World War II, the Menzels began training service and guard dogs for the Haganah. As she did in Austria, Rudolphina Menzel established an institute to train and study dogs for military and later agricultural purposes. The dogs she trained searched for wounded soldiers, detected and transported ammunition, picked up on radio communications, and carried messages across kilometers. One of her greatest achievements was training dogs to locate land mines by identifying the scent of the loose, different-smelling soil that covered them.
As her training progressed, Rudolphina Menzel found that traditional guarding breeds struggled in the harsh desert climate. The solution, she decided, were the local, semi-wild pariah dogs that lived on the outskirts of human settlements and with the nomadic Bedouins of the desert. End ID.

Colonialism is an ongoing problem in the purebred dog world and i just wanna take as second to talk about the national dog breed of Israel, the Canaan dog. Because here's the CKC's blurb on them
Tumblr media
I have no doubt and am not denying ancient Hebrews lived with these dogs, but the Canaan comes from a stock of landrace breed native across the Levant and it has also gone by names such as Bedouin Sheepdog or Palestinian Pariah Dog.
Tumblr media
Organized breeding of the Canaan began in the 20th century from captured Palestinian dogs (i would also point to the wording of 'redomesticating' used here, implying the feral pariah dogs were in some way not domesticated, which i think is disingenuous phrasing.). If you look up the Canaan, most sources you see on them explicitly brand Canaans as an Israeli breed, neglecting or downplaying any history they have with any of the other countless peoples or cultures in the region this breed has coexisted with across millenia. There's even an archeological site with ancient remains of canaan-like dogs was found in Ashkelon, located just 13 miles from the Gaza strip.
The developer of the 'modern' purebred Canaan was "ardent zionist" Rudolphina Menzel, who trained attack dogs for the IDF:
Tumblr media
What really gets me about this story is how this native landrace breed was taken and trained to guard colonial settlements from the very people they lived alongside, there is something so twisted about it..
Tumblr media
This is unfortunately nothing new in the world of dog fancy. There are many instances of explorers and settlers importing exotic new dogs from their travels, establishing a breed club, and then claiming stewardship over said breed without any involvement from the local peoples they took or bought them from. I'm not sure what to leave this on, i just think more people should be aware of these 'softer' forms of colonialism and how domestic animals can play a part in colonialism and nationalist narratives.
Anyway, long live the Palestinian pariah dog/ Bedouin sheepdog!

Mastering Language Models: AI Conversation Building Block
Tumblr media
What are language Models?
One kind of machine learning model that has been taught to perform a probability distribution over words is called a language models. In short, a model uses the context of the provided text to forecast the next best word to fill in a blank space in a sentence or phrase.
Since language models enable computers to comprehend, produce, and analyze human language, they are an essential part of natural language processing (NLP). A large text dataset, such a library of books or articles, is mostly used to train them. The next word in a phrase or the creation of fresh, grammatically and semantically coherent material are then predicted by models using the patterns they have learned from this training data.
The Capabilities of language models
Have you ever noticed how the Microsoft SwiftKey and Google Gboard keyboards have clever capabilities that automatically suggest whole phrases while you’re composing text messages? Among the many applications of language models is this one.
Many NLP activities, including text summarization, machine translation, and voice recognition, require it.
Creation of content: Content creation is one of the domains where language models excel. This involves using the information and terms supplied by people to generate whole texts or portions of them. Press releases, blog entries, product descriptions for online stores, poetry, and guitar tabs are just a few examples of the kind of content that may be found there.
POS (part-of-speech) labeling: World-class POS tagging performance is achieved by extensive use of this model. POS tagging assigns a noun, verb, adjective, or other part of speech to each document word. The models can estimate a word’s POS based on its context and the words that surround it in a phrase since they have been trained on vast volumes of annotated text data.
Addressing questions: It is possible to train language models to comprehend and respond to queries both with and without the provided context. They may respond in a variety of ways, such by selecting from a list of possibilities, paraphrasing the response, or extracting certain words.
Summary of a text: Documents, articles, podcasts, movies, and more may all be automatically condensed into their most essential chunks using language models. Models may be used to either summarize the material without using the original language or to extract the most significant information from the original text.
Examination of sentiment: Because it can capture the tone of voice and semantic orientation of texts, the language modeling technique is a strong choice for sentiment analysis applications.
AI that can converse: Voice-enabled apps that need to translate voice to text and voice versa inevitably include language models. This may respond to inputs with relevant text as part of conversational AI systems.
Translation by machine: Machine translation has been improved by ML-powered language models’ capacity to generalize well to lengthy contexts. It may learn the representations of input and output sequences and provide reliable results rather than translating text word for word.
Finishing the code: The capacity of recent large-scale language models to produce, modify, and explain code has been outstanding. They can only, however, translate instructions into code and verify it for mistakes to finish basic programming jobs.
Key aspects of language models
1. Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Language models use NLP approaches to analyze human language and extract meaningful components from words, phrases, and paragraphs.
2. Training
The models are trained on large datasets of text sources such as books, webpages, papers, and more. Training helps them anticipate the next word in a phrase and write like humans by teaching grammar, context, and word connections.
3. Deep Learning
Most recent language models, such as GPT and BERT, rely on deep learning, particularly transformer topologies, to effectively interpret language patterns. Transformers are effective at addressing long-term text dependencies.
4. Applications
It may be used for different activities, such as:
Text creation: Writing tales, poetry, and essays.
Translation: Language translation.
Natural discussion with chatbots.
Summarization: Shortening lengthy articles.
Answering questions with knowledge.
5. Examples
Famous language models include:
GPT-3 by OpenAI generates human-like writing and powers AI apps.
BERT by Google: Useful for search and sentiment analysis, optimized for linguistic context.
The Text-to-Text Transfer Transformer (T5) treats all NLP issues as text production problems and is used for many purposes.
It can allow robots to read, write, and speak like humans.
The Future of language models
Historically, AI business applications concentrated on predictive activities including forecasting, fraud detection, click-through rates, conversions, and low-skill job automation. These restricted uses took great effort to execute and interpret, and were only practical at large scale. However, massive language models altered this.
Large language models like GPT-3 and generative models like Midjouney and DALL-E are transforming the sector, and AI will likely touch practically every part of business in the next years.
Top language model trends are listed below.
Scale and intricacy: The quantity of data and parameters learned on language models will certainly scale.
Multimodality: Integration of language models with visuals, video, and music is intended to enhance their worldview and allow new applications.
Explaining and showing: With more AI in decision-making, ML models must be explainable and transparent. Researchers are trying to make language models more understandable and explain their predictions.
Conversation: It will be utilized increasingly in chatbots, virtual assistants, and customer service to interpret and react to user inputs more naturally.
Language models are projected to improve and be utilized in more applications across fields.

What’s new Chrome 128 update?
The latest Chrome release brings, several new features and bug fixes to enhance the browsing experience.
The Chrome 128 release brings several key features and improvements aimed at enhancing both security and usability. A notable addition is Isolated Web Apps, which strengthen protection against tampering and web server compromises, though this feature is currently limited to enterprise-managed ChromeOS devices. This builds on previous work with Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and Web Packaging, offering a more secure browsing experience.
Another significant update is the standardization of the CSS zoom property. Previously, this property was non-standard, leading to inconsistent behaviour across different browsers. Chrome 128 now fully supports it, making it easier for developers to control the scaling of elements on a webpage. This update is part of Chrome’s broader effort to align with modern web standards.
The release also introduces enhancements to the Attribution Reporting API, which aids in measuring online ad effectiveness while respecting user privacy. Additionally, support for the ruby-align property and line-breakable Ruby annotations improve the presentation of East Asian typography on the web, making it easier to create accessible and visually appealing content.
For developers, Chrome 128 adds features like Promise.try, which simplifies asynchronous operations in JavaScript, and WebAuthn hints, which enhance the user experience during authentication. Additionally, support for WebGPU HDR has been introduced under a developer trial flag, enabling richer graphics for web applications.
Security remains a priority, with Chrome 128 addressing several vulnerabilities by fixing seven high-priority Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs). These updates highlight Chrome’s commitment to maintaining a secure browsing environment.

Since I am working on my undergrad thesis right now, I have this blog and I need some accountability over the summer months — I figure I might start posting my thesis progress and stuff here.
For my thesis, I am studying how the media rhetoric from conservative parental rights orgs has pushed legislation and voters in Florida in alignment with a privatized K12 education model. I will be researching and writing about campaigns around things like The Don’t Say Gay Bill, The Stop WOKE Act and other Florida Education Bills. This includes digging into the deeper goal of legislation and rhetoric around this topic.
To me, the goals seem to be clearly pointing towards decreasing access to education through privatization, teacher shortages, book bans and a lack of robust curricula. However, I also want to examine how the parental rights movement is a critical arm of authoritarianism/fascism and why targeting public schools/parents is such an effective means for this practice. Other questions I have are: who do these movements seek to recruit, and why do individuals get involved? Who ultimately benefits and who suffers?
One of the most significant parts of this is ultimately how it affects youth, those in the public schools. While parental rights are often sold as something which increases liberty, it ultimately inhibits the freedom of the children it claims to protect. Additionally, increased “parental rights” and the legislation that goes along with it limits children's agency over their own identity, education, and freedom of speech.
In my thesis I would like to show how the media from these organizations, documentation, speeches, and other rhetoric is pushing forward this agenda.
This is particularly significant to me as someone who has been negatively impacted by this conservative movement in education. In 2023, the college I was attending faced a hostile takeover with the intent of completely overhauling the curriculum and academic systems because it was seen as too left leaning. Here are a few articles if you are interested in reading about it [1. 2. 3.]
Currently, I am at the stage of researching and drafting. Right now, my days consist of reading a lot of documentation, ads, social media posts, webpages and transcripts from organizations like Moms 4 Liberty.
So, for my personal accountability and perhaps as a way to compile my research in a way that will actually make some sense, I plan to provide regular updates here on what I have been reading about, my analysis, and how it connects to my larger project. A bit of a live annotated bibliography I suppose.
Hopefully it's engaging to an extent! Either way, I will be postin.  If you have any avenues for me to follow — reach out!
