This beautiful gown, dyed with a gradient of white to red ending in a lightly feathered skirt, was first worn by Ann Miller as Nadine Hale in the 1948 classic film 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒆.   Shockingly, this immediately identifiable costume was worn again in the 1950s 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒅��, where Gale Robbins wore it as Terry Lordel.   This piece, designed by Irene, was one of the many costumes purchased by Debbie Reynolds at the MGM auction of 1970. After failing to find a permanent home where the costumes could be on display, Reynolds ultimately sold her collection in three separate auctions through Profiles in History (now @heritageauctions).   I’ve written a little bit more about the costume collection and the sales on our auctions at Bit.ly/PostEd086

Musical Monday

Hello, hello, hellooooooooo. It's Monday and have I got a musical for YOU! This week's highlighted musical is the final one of 1980 to be highlighted. I saved this for last because it is a show I have performed in! It was a winter in Fresno, I was at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater where Good Company Players put on the production. I tell you a lot of my comedic instincts were challenged and enhanced by doing this form of comedy for six weeks of rehearsal and nine weeks of performances. The tunes are catchy, the jokes are funny, and the girls are dazzling. Enjoy!

Other: Sugar Babies served as Mickey Rooney's Broadway debut. He received one of the production's eight nominations, which was for Best Actor in a Musical.  

Fun Fact: Sugar Babies enjoyed three separate national tours with such stars as Carol Channing, Robert Morse, Ann Miller (also Broadway), and Mickey Rooney (also Broadway) featured.

Sugar Babies is just an all-around delightful, hilarious, and energetic show. It's a kiss to the 'ole Vaudevillian days of comedy and shtick. Join me next week as I jump over to 1981, bringing you another awards season of Best Musical losers. Ta-ta for now and go see a show!
