Peggy Carter (Captain America/Agent Carter/MCU)

Peggy my darling angel, she was one of my first, like, fave characters/role models ever and remains so to this day! She is a strong, independent woman who can kick some butt and knows exactly what she wants. Also like- the hair and the lipstick?? Iconic.

The Lorax (The Lorax)

I hope it is well known that I love a kids movie and The Lorax is one of my favorites ever! He speaks for the trees! 🥲 It literally makes me cry when he has the little funeral for the first tree I love him so much.

Jane Eyre (Jane Eyre)

Obviously the title character is the best one. Um what more could you want than poor, plain, and simple Jane. I don’t really know- this book was so insanely wild like what? but also like I feel so sad for Jane in so much of the beginning- my precious baby. But I love how she realizes her worth and value and makes a life for herself and finds family and like yes, is it insane that Mr. Rochester kept his wife in the attic and then that wife later jumped off the top of his burning mansion to her death and Jane later marries that man? Absolutely of course but it’s all part of the drama and the intrigue that is Jane Eyre.

Cher Horowitz (Clueless)

Yes, she is the worst ever, but also if you think about it…I love her. The audacity. The style. The story. I love her. I love that she has some real character growth and learns the value of friendship and like giving a little and I think it’s a really fun adaptation of Emma and the cultural impact? I mean come on!

Ted Lasso (Ted Lasso)

Okay like yes, is every character in this show somehow insanely amazing? Yes. But Ted just has this energy and joy that I want so badly to have in my life! I feel like I’m a pretty positive person, but he just absolutely outshines everyone and like how do I be like that? He is so good.

Edmund Hewlett (TURN)

But also Anna Strong, you know what I mean?? How can I choose between them! I love them both so much- Anna is our queen honestly and just who is doing it like her?? Nobody, that’s who! But Edmund is my skrunkly little baby and I love him too much he is too precious and too pure for this world he deserved to live happily ever after with Anna. 😭

Effie Trinket (The Hunger Games)

Okay, like, yes, obviously Katniss is our queen and we love her endlessly, BUT I have an undying love for Effie!! She is way superficial at the beginning of the series and so wrapped up in Capital culture, but I love the way she starts to see through the mask of the Games even in the first book/movie and especially through the second and third. I think she really understands the depth of evil that the Games perpetuate and I really liked watching her transformation. Plus like who can ignore her insane style and over-the-top aesthetic? Iconic.

Janet Wood (Three’s Company)

My queen angel Janet. She’s the rock of the apartment- the rest of them are literally insane and she holds them all together with logic and intelligence and steadfastness. She is also so cool and amazing and what a sweet baby I just want her to be happy.

EM, your app was so much fun to read! the format you used to tell jude’s story was so original and fresh and it fit perfectly with what we think of the explorer. also, jude is such a fun character! reading about her lovers, her relationship with her dad and her concept of home, it was just so fun to read. and we love how she feels about the society, it’s def inch-resting and we can’t wait to see how that plays out!

LISSA, when i was writing up the skeleton i imagined someone exactly like wolfgang, who despite everything, pushes through. his rebellion is one stemming from something and it makes his fight all the more glorious. thank you for sharing him with us and i have to say the line “but stories have always been the only thing the rebel has ever had, and he will protect them with his life, if need be.” was the cherry on top of the delicious cake! he’ll fit right in at harcourt!

EMILY, there’s no doubt about it, danielle is our seducer skeleton through and through. she is aphrodite reincarnated, she is the girl who steals all the attention in the room and the breath from your lungs. we loved the format of your app with the rumors, it was incredibly original and fun to read. what you did with the moment on the page was also so clever and everything about danielle’s relationship with the society makes us just wants to see more of her in this setting! can’t wait to see what she’ll do next!

LOGAN, ewan is chaos personified, a rich boy with destructive tendencies? more like our perfect hotshot! we loved the way you presented his bio through key words, and the moment on the page?! the fates?! you got to greek mythos hearts. we are sure ewan will bring lots of drama and chaos to the group and we can’t wait for it!

DANIEL ITO in PAGE 57: THE INGENUE.

ANNIE, the idea that the ingenue is not someone who has to be soft but rather can use that as protection or as a facade was a welcomed one and you portrayed it so beautifully through danny. he is soft despite how he feels about the word, not because he chooses to be but rather circumstances made him this way for survival and i adore that interpretation. we can’t wait to see how he grows within harcourt’s walls! also, the two leo admins understand danny’s need for attention and hate for lion tamers very well! 

LYSANDER “LYE” BELLO VASSILIS in PAGE 74: THE KNIGHT.

ALEXA, lye is the prince charming of our dreams! we love that he is not what we would usually expect from the knight, but still, he fits so well into the role. a knight in shining armor to his sister. we’re in love with him! his whole ass natal chart in there was not our favorite bit, but we forgive you because we know lye will bring the drama and the sexy!

BEATRICE “BEA” ANDERSON-YAMADA in PAGE 75: THE LOVER.

ASH, you didn’t have to go so hard with your app, pheeww! it was such a ride. there were some amazing apps for the lover but we just couldn’t look away from bea. she was the one for us. the way she shines warmth and love reached us through the screen. bea is such a beautiful character, to us, she is a lover of life and the people around her, she is light and poetry and we can’t wait to see more of her!

JULIAN ROMERO in PAGE 88: THE UNDERDOG.

ELIZABETH, julian is such a sweet boy, i just want him to succeed in everything he does and i truly am rooting for him. his story was refreshing and the idea that despite him having a harder time than most, he can still do the things they can just in his own way was really wonderful. we are so excited to see him interact with the rest of the society members and be the resident historian! we hope he has the round-frame glasses to match the look!

DOROTHEA “THEA” MARQUIS in PAGE 93: THE WILDCARD.

ELLIE, we both agree that thea is our perfect wildcard! everything about her, from her backstory with her parents, to living with her brother, to her own fall from grace make her an incredibly fascinating character. you just never know what to expect with her, as is only right for the wildcard and we can’t wait to see how she fits into the society and interacts with everyone else!

PHOEBE-MAY LANGDON in PAGE 95: THE CORRUPTER.

S, you probably already suspect it but this was one of the skeletons we struggled the most with as all of the apps were beautiful and each character had such a wonderful take on the corrupter. but phoebe. PHOEBE! we love the way she is lowkey a psychopath and goes through life as if it’s the most normal thing in the world. we have a feeling that she is so completely out of touch with reality, on her own goddess fantasy, that we can’t wait to see how she mingles with the rest of the group! also... did she ever serve time for... you know? 

EDISON “EDI” BLAIR in PAGE 103: THE INDIFFERENT.

JAX, edi’s story is so heartbreaking. the way you played with this idea of the controlling parents, doing exactly what they’d done in life in death as well. having the guilt controlling her now and that being the cause of her indifference, a shield of sorts was truly compelling. we’re incredibly excited to see how this will work within the group and what other sides of edi it will bring out!

1. Favourite fantasy book? Or favourite book if fantasy is not your kind of thing? Oh mannnn... the books of my childhood ^^; I mean... yes? All of them? As a standalone, Beauty by Robin McKinley is one of my favorites and my favorite retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

2. Where do you most want to travel to? In general? A lot of places. There’s a lot of beauty in the world, it would be a precious treasure to see it. Specifically? House on the Rock, Wisconsin. Looks FABULOUS. MUST SEE.

3. A fic or story that impressed you deeply and why? Uhhhhh... fuck me. 

Reaching DEEP into my past Odalisque by Bailey was probably one of the most influential fics of my coming of age. Not the first slash fic I ever read, but one of the best. I learned new words from it! Hell, this fic single-handedly created Faramir/Eomer as my favorite LOTR crackship. And it STUNNINGLY, ABSURDLY WORKS. (Yeah, this is SO OLD, I originally read it on a geocities website. YEAH. Yeah. Let that just... sink in.)

My Fine Feathered Friend by Lixxle is still one of my all time favorite comfort fics in the whole goddamn world. I don’t think I can go more than a year without rereading it. It’s just so pure and good and gives me the warm feels. And, you know, it’s impressive on its own to have a fic who can do that for you perpetually, no matter what happens to you. That’s impressive. (Also presented to you in its original deviantART format. I have stared into the abyss, friends. And the abyss stared back.)

Speaking of fics I will never get over and always return to, The Crane Wife by x! Not only did this fic introduce me to the beauty that is Five/Ainley, it introduced me to The Decemberists, which was life changing, and it has forever embedded in my mind how EXCELLENT a slave trope can be. I mean... this fic changed me. And in my opinion, it is x’s best work, which is no small feat as one of the greatest Best Enemies writers I’ve ever read. (Also also presented in its original livejournal format. I’ve been doing this a LONG fucking time friends. A long. long. fucking time.)

Honorable Mentions: A BloodRed Rose for Legolas (long... long embarrassing story from the bad old days of FF.net when I was about 13. It has since been taken down, I’m sure, for similar embarrassment on the part of the author. Although I distantly remember the title being changed... but no, I am not spending my evening tracking it down, sorry ^^;)

Alis Grave Nil by ombredelarue (even unfinished, it stands as a tremendous work. Before I had Hannibal, I had Doctor Who. And I had Doctor/Master. And I had TenSimms. And, let me tell you, Hannibal is not the first fandom nor will it be the last to ship the actor’s characters from other fandoms. Before I had Spacedogs, I had this. And it’s beautiful.)

The Pull of One Magnet to Another by ellie_hell (I’m no longer in the Sherlock fandom for Every Possible Reason. But, this is a very sweet, very well-written fic that if you ever cared for the character of John and Sherlock, I’d recommend reading. It can’t be any worse than the show at any rate)

4. Favourite show character? I mean... j-just one? You’re... you’re kidding right. You’re kidding.

There’s... Hannibal and Mad Sweeney and Frank Castle and Count Olaf. There’s Garnet and Annie Edison and Jane Eyre and Martha Jones. To name a few.

5. If you could only save one book in the apocalypse, what would it be? I’m gonna play by Fahrenheit 451 rules and assume that EVERYONE gets to pick one book to memorize. And I would take Moby Dick and the reason I would take Moby Dick is because 1) now no one else has to suffer trying to memorize it, 2) if you forget the past, you’re doomed to repeat it and I AIN’T DOING THIS WHITE WHALE BULLSHIT TWICE, and 3) it’s a genuinely good book about the impetuous folly and tragic pride of humanity. And given this is the apocalypse, I feel like humility is a lesson humanity could stand to remember : |

6. If you could change one thing about yourself or the world what would it be? Clean energy. Instantly. If there was one thing I could fix today, overnight, that’s what I would do.

7. What do you do for inspiration if you’re feeling blocked or low? I get some musics. Musics is good for my mental state, especially new stuff. I find radio stations imperative for this because I don’t know what I’ll get. And even if I hate it, that will give me inspiration, something to think about, a new stimulus.

8. What would be your patronus / dæmon / spirit animal? I always like to think of something perfectly harmless that just wants to make its way in the world. Like a whale or a butterfly or a pangolin. I’m extremely protective of creatures who are uniquely ill-equipped to defend themselves against humans. And the whale is fantastically intelligent and develops strong familial bonds, they are long-lived and sing to each other, they’re just majestic ocean giants who do their best to regulate their home. Or butterflies, who are beautiful at no cost to anyone and are vital to the continued existence of pretty much everything on the planet. Or pangolins, who just want to be left alone to eat bugs at night and otherwise hide in trees. All precious sweethearts who are just doing their best. I’d like to be one of them.

9. What trait to you value in a friend more than any other? Understanding is a pretty good answer, really, I’m gonna steal it.

1.      1. What was the first fandom you were aware you were a part of?

Oh, easy peasy. The X-Files. In the hey-days of the internet, in all its HTML glory. I was OBSESSED with that show and worshipped Scully (who, let’s face it, is a kickass role model for teenage girls). Wrote my only other fanfics then. DISCLAIMER: I don’t know what the actual definition of fandom is. For the purpose of this exercise, I take it to mean “loving something so much you seek out extra material and fellow fans online”.  That may be the Level 10 definition, but so be it.

 2.      2. What’s your current favorite fandom?

Mercy Street, God rest its beautiful soul *giant sob* *pours glass 2/?*

3.      3. What is your secret favorite fandom?

Probably Mercy Street, because Mercy Street is like a secret show nobody’s ever heard of, and people think I’m a hopeless nerd when I mention I like Civil War, hoop-skirted medical-ish dramas.

4.      4. What fandom do/would people think you ought to like that just leaves you flat?

Hmmm…I haven’t gotten a lot of recommendations. Outlander, maybe? I’m reading the books, have watched some of the show: it’s good, but doesn’t come and grab me like the others do.

5.      4. What attracts you to a fandom?

I’ve honestly been asking myself that question for a while: what makes me fangirl-obsess over one thing, yet leaves me at the “I really enjoy this, but don’t need anything more” stage for another? I think it comes down to loving a show in its whole + off-the-charts chemistry between characters I adore and deeply connect with.

I’ll plug Community here because it’s the only other show I’ve fangirled over and own all DVDs of. I was pretty much exactly Annie Edison in my college years, and watching her in the super fun and crazy meta Greendale universe with her hot chemistry with Jeff (yet-somewhat-age-inapropriate, damn the writers) was pure gold.

6.      5. What aspect of fandom makes you squee or the modern-day equivalent of squee-ing?

Despite my everyday cynical, rational, evidence-based brain, I am a hopeless romantic grown on Disney movies. So I would say unresolved sexual tension/ romantic moments/hurt-comfort between two characters with tons of chemistry.

My tolerance for melodrama is directly proportional to the previously-mentioned criteria. That typhoid, bathtub, ice-picking-like-a-maniac, “let me feel your pulse while you beam that radiant smile at me” Mercy Street episode messed me up and led me here. Nothing they did in Season 1 managed that (although the last 2 episodes almost did, but then the show was over for a WHOLE FRICKIN’ YEAR and I forgot all about it).

7.      7. Which character from which fandom do you think would most appreciate you as a fangirl/boy?

Dr Hale from Mercy Street, or Jeff Winger from Community, because these two would appreciate ALL the fangirls and boys they could get.

8.      8. What was the first fandom you were in before you were aware of fandom?

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: I was 7-8 when it came out. To have a brown-haired, French-speaking, book-loving, adventure-seeking Disney Princess like me was an absolute revelation.

Also Hocus Pocus. My 10-year-old pre-semi-Goth self LOOOVED them Anderson sisters and Salem setting. Wrote stuff about that too.
