‘SNL 1975’ Finds Its Garrett Morris, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase And John Belushi

EXCLUSIVE: Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith and Matt Wood have joined the cast of Sony Pictures’ SNL 1975 that will be directed by Jason Reitman and based on the real-life behind the scenes accounts of the opening night of Saturday Night Live. Morris will play Garrett Morris, O’Brien will play Dan Aykroyd, Smith will play Chevy Chase, and Wood will play Belushi. The original screenplay is written by Reitman and Gil Kenan.

On October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. SNL 1975 is the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of NBC’s SNL. It depicts the chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, counting down the minutes in real time to the infamous words, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”

The screenplay is based on an extensive series of interviews conducted by Reitman and Kenan with all the living cast members, writers and crew. Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills and Peter Rice are producing.

Morris can currently be seen in FX’s fifth season of Noah Hawley’s hit drama series Fargo as North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr. He joined the cast of Netflix’s Unstable for season two opposite Rob Lowe. Prior to this, he starred as the titular lead in the hybrid live-action/animated Hulu series Woke, inspired by the life and art of cartoonist Keith Knight.

O’Brien was most recently starring in Ponyboi, which premiered as one of ten films in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Up next, he will be seen in the feature films Caddo Lake, from the writing-directing team of Logan George and Celine Held and producer M. Night Shyamalan, and Anniversary, a thriller co-starring Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch and Phoebe Dynevor. His other credits include Searchlight feature Not Okay from writer-director Quinn Shephard, the critically-acclaimed crime drama The Outfit, opposite Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, and Johnny Flynn; Paramount’s Love and Monsters and the popular Maze Runner franchise

Best known for his role on as the Riddler on the popular Fox series Gotham, Smith can currently be seen as Julianne Moore’s son in Todd Haynes’ May December. He most recently starred as Varian Fry in Anna Winger’s limited series Transatlantic opposite Gillian Jacobs and Corey Stoll for Netflix. Smith has also worked with Todd Haynes in both Carol (as private investigator Tommy Tucker) and Wonderstruck.

Wood has appeared in the original Broadway cast of Spongebob Squarepants and as husky kid icon Augustus Gloop in the Broadway First National Tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Television credits include Law and Order: SVU, Instinct and Difficult People.

TELL ME ALL ABOUT THE WORSE BOOKS YOU HAD READ!

Did you… just… awaken my deepest rage?

(forgive me for being a bit ooc, but I simply must for things like this)

A LIST OF TERRIBLE BOOKS I READ:

Handbook for Mortals by Lani Sarem was one of the first bad books I wanted to read so long ago simply because it was the number one thing people in the book community were talking about. It got taken off the Bestsellers list within 24 hours because the company behind the book was buying bulk copies to make it number one. The writing is cheesy, and there are too many characters you will not care about, plus the protagonist is unrelatable and annoying.

All of the Onision books. Well, specifically, I heard someone read them since I did not want to actually own those dreaded books. I cannot fathom how these three books of his clearly reflect the twisted author. They all boil down to being about a male character believing the world is out to get them when, in actuality, it is just the author’s strange power fantasy ranging from beating up and/or killing characters who wronged him to having sex with women because it is a man’s human nature to breed? It’s all very strange and it’s only scratching the surface.

The “poetry books” of Gabbie Hanna. Critiques of the author aside, her poetry is essentially the equivalent of what I would have written at the age of 12. I bought used versions of the books because my brother and I wanted to read, laugh, and cry at just how unfinished and empty the poetry is. I remade two of them, and maybe someday I want to recreate all of them as a little writing challenge, hehe. Not to say these books were bad, but they were such wasted potential of what could have been.

Lastly, The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku, a light novel adaptation of an iconic Hatsune Miku song…

I CANNOT FATHOM THE DISAPPOINTMENT AND BITTER HATRED I HAVE WITH HIS BOOK! This needs to be a separate post because THIS BOOK is why look at reviews before buying them now. Long story short, it is a strange “love story” with unlikable and boring characters and a very broken plot, and the only one you will care for is Miku, who doesn't deserve to be in this story.

I even made annotations on it. I only do that with books I need to write an essay on…

Tent Girl

In May 1968, a man named Wilbur Riddle happened to be collecting gold glass telephone-pole insulators from the roadside of I-75 near Georgetown and, in so doing, made a ghoulish discovery.

He came upon a large bundle wrapped in green tent tarpaulins. Curious, he gave me it a kick, and sent it rolling down the roadside embankment. As it went, the other tarp came off and revealed a second tarp-shaped like a human body.

Riddle rushed to a nearby gas station and called the sheriff, who came out and cut away the tarp. Inside was a badly decomposing female body stiffened into a position seemingly of escape from the wrappings. She was white, sixteen to nineteen years old, with short, reddish brown hair, and no identifying scars, tattoos, or marks of any kind.

Because the Jane Doe was wrapped in tent tarpaulins, the press dubbed her Tent Girl. The police waited for someone to come forward to identify her, but no one did. False hopes were raised when a mother of a missing teen thought the body might be that of her daughter, but it wasn't.

Tent Girl was buried in Georgetown Cemetery in 1971 and received a headstone etched with the police sketch and description, in hopes that someone still might step forward to identify her. Months turned to years. Years turned to decades. All hope was lost of determining the identity of the girl who had become something of an icon as one of America's most troubling unsolved mysteries. Her grave site and the location in which her body was found both became part of something called "legend tripping"-destinations for curiosity seekers.

Then along came private detective Todd Matthews, who became fascinated with the story when he began dating Wilbur Riddle's daughter. He threw himself headlong into the case, devoting thousands of hours of research and travel to finding more information about Tent Girl. In 1998, his efforts paid off. Using the Internet, he met a woman who was seeking the whereabouts of her sister, Barbara Anna Hackmann-Taylor, who had been missing since 1967. Because Barbara was thought to have been living in Florida at the time of her disappearance, no one had connected her to Tent Girl until Matthews put the pieces of the story together and had the body exhumed. Sure enough, DNA evidence indicated that Tent Girl was indeed Barbara Ann Hackmann-Taylor, and the decades-long mystery was put to rest. A second grave marker, this one bearing her name, was place underneath the original Tent Girl headstone.

But the mystery of what happened to her still remains, and we may never know the true circumstances of her death. Barbara's family last knew her to be in the company of husband, a traveling carnival worker named George Earl Taylor. Prior to Tent Girl's identification, Mr. Taylor insisted that he hadn't seen Barbara in years, and that she had simply left him for another man without seeking a divorce. By the time Tent Girl was discovered to be his wife, he had long since died of cancer.

1.rogue (X-MEN) - my first fave character and still one of my faves. i know most people seem to think anna paquin was miscast and/or the filmmakers didn't make the character as badass, i guess, as she's in the comics, but i like this take on her plus nostalgia def factors in (and it rarely does w me). she's just a scared teenager who wants to fit in; it's a great take on the character imo.

2. helen prins (MANHATTAN) - my girl, my number one girl. a genius who i badly wish i knew what sam shaw had planned for her in the cancelled four seasons (her role in JUPITER is kinda small, but significant). only person who could take a jab at robert oppenheimer AND impress him. AN ICON. SAM, PLEASE ANSWER MY TEXTS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER!!!

3. peggy olson (MAD MEN) - i mean. do i need to explain her? i could go on forever about how great she is. no one will ever do it like she did.

4. tess ocean (OCEAN'S trilogy) - i hate it when people say she's the worst character in the franchise because she actually rules and w/o her, we wouldn't have the trilogy. the ~~julia roberts~~ scene in TWELVE is iconic, i do NOT accept criticism of it or its meta nature.

5. sarah pierce (LITTLE CHILDREN) - i love all of future oscar winner nominee todd field's female leads, but i'm giving the edge to sarah because she's the lead in my fave film of his and i love the book, too. it's funny cause i think kate winslet gives my least fave performance of his female leads (tho i still love her performance and i think she should have won the oscar for it), but i love the settings of the suburbs, the unhappiness she feels in the position she's in her life, the way she pines for brad, the book club scene. just a great, great character.

6. selina meyer (VEEP) - i mean, fuck the last two seasons. it's very much fuck the last two seasons. but selina was great even in them (which is more than i can say for literally every other character). i hate the phrase 'no one else could play this character but x' cause it's overused, but it does apply her. no one else could have played selina meyer but julia louis-dreyfus.

9. addison montgomery (GREY'S ANATOMY) - i rewatched the first eight seasons late last year/earlier this year and whenever she popped up, i'd practically cheer. how can you not lover her?

10. lucy moderatz (WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING) - i never wanted to see a character be happy more than her. this is sandra bullock's best role and one of the best characters in a romcom and you can quote me on that!
