silly crackship post for the mceleni au that me and @kindheartedgummybears are making because we're unhinged and treating these characters like barbie dolls.
these are just the current ones we've jokingly brought up and mentioned. no doubt more will pop up the more we develop this au. uh... idk friendly reminder these are all crackships and aren't meant to be taken seriously this is just a fun lil thing i made w kearney idkidk felt like i needed to say tht bc ive seen people get Weird about crackships sometimes.
tabitha x belial. aka tabilial.
god-fearing puritan x demon? hell yeah brother sign me up. there's just something about them that's scratching that itch in my brain in all the right ways.
i. already got a fanfic idea for them. idk why im treating these two so seriously but i am.
jenny x anna. aka janna.
got this picture in my mind of jenny being the only one anna listens to when anna is like. this close to eating someone.
'keep your dog on a leash' trope.
tanya x michelle. aka tanchelle.
tanya and michelle are basically the mediators of this whole horrific mess of a group, so.
tanya is always stressed and very overworked and refuses to relax and michelle is just trying to get the poor girl to pause and sit back for a moment to take a breather.
'go on break.' 'no.' 'c'mon, at least step outside for five minutes to get some fresh air.' 'i will not.'
tabitha x taylor. aka tabylor.
i'm sure you've all seen the propaganda in the ship tournament so there's that.
the inherent horror of meeting your demon while trapped in purgatory is real, taylor's dealt with it. honestly, she totally avoided tabitha for a while thinking she'd just metamorph into the demon again but after a while she realizes that tabitha is just. a person. at least, one conjured up in the same way she was conjured up.
jenny x tabitha. aka mayton.
idkidk i just think it's an interesting concept that i kinda wanna explore a bit in this au. it's existing in my mind.
jenny x taylor. aka jenlor.
neither of them exist!! one is a hallucination thanks to chemical bio-weapon and the other is a hallucination thanks to grief and trauma!
clarice x belial. aka clelial (but also berice).
smth smth they first meet in switchback vr idk i think clarice is in that game smth smth and then they meet in purgatory and belial is like 'damn you were a lot cooler as a murderous alien-possessed husk' and clarice is like 'who the fuck are you'
they co-parent greg. greg is the alien parasite that infected and took over clarice.
daniella x belial. aka danibel.
for reasons unknown the two have beef in this au and therefore provide the classic and beloved enemies to lovers trope.
toma x clarice. aka cloma.
another ship that popped randomly into mind, and one that's equally as intriguing to me and something i would like to explore a bit as well.
honestly i just felt bad for not including toma fhdjskfhd

For as long as people have been promoting marriage, they have also been observing that a good man is hard to find (see: William Julius Wilson, or early Nora Ephron). But what was once dismissed as the complaint of “picky” women is now supported by a raft of data. The same pundits plugging marriage also bemoan the crisis among men and boys, what has come to be known as “male drift” — men turning away from college, dropping out of the work force, or failing to look after their health. Ms. Kearney, for example, acknowledges that improving men’s economic position, especially men without college degrees, is an important step toward making them more attractive partners. But even this nod ignores the qualitative aspect of the dating experience — the part that’s hard to cover in surveys, or address with policy. Daniel Cox, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute who recently surveyed more than 5,000 Americans about dating and relationships, found that nearly half of college-educated women said they were single because they had trouble finding someone who meets their expectations, versus one-third of men. The in-depth interviews, he said, “were even more dispiriting.” For a variety of reasons — mixed messages from the broader culture about toughness and vulnerability, the activity-oriented nature of male friendships — it seems that by the time men begin dating, they are relatively “limited in their ability and willingness to be fully emotionally present and available,” he said. Navigating interpersonal relationships in a time of evolving gender norms and expectations “requires a level of emotional sensitivity that I think some men probably just lack, or they don’t have the experience,” he added. He had recently read about a high school creative writing assignment in which boys and girls were asked to imagine a day from the perspective of the opposite sex. While girls wrote detailed essays showing they had already spent significant time thinking about the subject, many boys simply refused to do the exercise, or did so resentfully. Mr. Cox likened that to heterosexual relationships today: “The girls do extra and the boys do little or nothing.”
–Anna Louie Sussman, "Why Aren't More People Getting Married? Ask Women What Dating Is Like." The New York Times, November 11, 2023

You know what is missing on Eurovision for me? Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Just think of a banger in Scottish Gaelic, perhaps with bagpipes and kilts (but that's optional). A beautiful showcase of culture, in an ancient native language, possibly prompting foreigners to learn and promoting it in general.
The closest to this that we got is Banshee by Anna Kearney (Ireland 2019 on JESC) and I WANT MORE!!!

This Irish entry is one of my top 3 favorite songs from Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019, also featuring Linda Martin, the winner of Eurovision Song Contest of 1992. No one can do Eurovision like Ireland (it’s not for nothing that they won the most times).

The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017)
This is it. This is my last review for this Christmas season, and fittingly it is also the inspiration for my url. This has been a wonderful experience that I plan on continuing next year to the best of my ability. I will be making a separate account for reviews January through October, but this one will stay Christmas.
Ok, so this story is kind of another version of A Christmas Carol, but it's actually about how Charles Dickens created the story. It's considered a biography/drama/comedy.
Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) is the famous author of Oliver Twist in Europe and America but he has had three books flop in the year since. He refuses to tell his wife, Kate (Morfydd Clark) about the financial strain, even though she's been renovating their house. The only person he is honest with about his financial concerns is his good friend, John Forster (Justin Edwards). Charles and John try to get the situation resolved at the publishing house that has printed all of Charles's work so far, but after three flops, they're starting to withhold funds to make up for lost expenses. They won't grant an advance until they know they like the next book (a book Charles hasn't started yet, he just needs the advance money). Charles and John are at lunch after, where they see Thackery (Miles Jupp), another author who makes petty comments that are insults disguised as friendship. They also have a waiter (Pat Mooney) who is very clumsy and very old. Charles asks his name, and it's Marley. Charles writes "Marley" in a little notepad he carries with him. John explains to the waiter that "he collects names," obviously for potential future characters as we see throughout the movie.
Later that night, Charles is working in his study (no one is allowed to disturb him while he is working) when he overhears screaming. He finds the new housemaid Tara (Anna Murphy) telling the children a ghost story. He talks to her the next day and finds out it's a story she grew up hearing. She's an Irish orphan sent to London for work, but back in Ireland, her grandma always said that Christmas Eve was when the spirits could visit and walk among us. Tara continues to surprise Charles because she knows how to read without a formal education (her mom taught her) and she loves to read horror and fantasy books.
Shortly after, Charles's father, Mr. John Dickens (Jonathan Pryce), comes to visit. We learn fairly quickly that John Dickens is not good with money and has been poor for years, however he feels that he is a gentleman and entitled to everything that merits. You can see how someone who doesn't live within their means might run into problems, especially in the time of debtor's prisons and work houses. However, I'm not really sure why he's still so broke because Charles paid for his house outright and gives him a monthly allowance, so if he worked even part time, he would be comfortable. But no. Whatever. Charles is working and avoiding his father when he finally meets Scrooge (Christopher Plummer). And when I say meets, I mean that when he finds the right name for a character, the character physically manifests. Some of the characters look like people in his life: John is the Ghost of Christmas Present, Tara is the Ghost of Christmas Past, Mr. Haddock is the ghost of Jacob Marley, Charles's sister Fanny (Katie McGuinness) is Mrs. Cratchit, her husband Henry (Marcus Lamb) is Mr. Cratchit, and their son Henry Jr. (Pearse Kearney) is the famous Tiny Tim.
The next day, Charles goes to the publishers to pitch his story. They are less than enthusiastic about it; they have no Christmas spirit, thus no motivation to publish a Christmas story in six weeks to get it in stores before Christmas. Charles decides this story is too important, so he'll publish it himself. He needs funds for that, so he pays the aforementioned Mr. Haddock a visit. I don't understand the economics of the time well enough to know what Mr. Haddock's official title was, but it is some combination of lawyer and banker. John is there, appalled by how much Charles is sinking himself into debt, especially having the father he does. But Charles isn't going to be slowed down, so off to the illustrator! Mr. Leech (Simon Callow) is convinced it's not possible to finish in time, but after getting his ego stroked a bit, he agrees to the undertaking.
Things are going well, with Scrooge and Tara adding in their thoughts, until the last chapter. Charles gets a nasty writer's block. He has to resolve some issues with his past before he can figure out the end of the story. Kate is having trouble coping with all his mood swings.
This movie is true to the time period, true to the book with all the quotes being direct quotes, but most importantly, true to how a writer's brain works. There is also very interesting information given at the beginning and end of the film.
There's a reason it inspired my url. 5 stars.

Note
who is spreading the lie that white feminists gatekeep rights away from brown women? in america black men kept women from voting rights to begin with.
“White supremacy will be strengthened, not weakened, by women’s suffrage.” - Carrie Chapman Catt
“What will we and our daughters suffer if these degraded black men are allowed to have the rights that would make them even worse than our Saxon fathers?” - Elizabeth Cady Stanton
“You have put the ballot in the hands of your black men, thus making them political superiors of white women. Never before in the history of the world have men made former slaves the political masters of their former mistresses!” - Anna Howard Shaw
“I do not want to see a negro man walk to the polls and vote on who should handle my tax money, while I myself cannot vote at all…When there is not enough religion in the pulpit to organize a crusade against sin; nor justice in the court house to promptly punish crime; nor manhood enough in the nation to put a sheltering arm about innocence and virtue—-if it needs lynching to protect woman’s dearest possession from the ravening human beasts—-then I say lynch, a thousand times a week if necessary.” - Rebecca Ann Latimer Felton.
“The enfranchisement of women would insure immediate and durable white supremacy, honestly attained, for upon unquestioned authority it is stated that in every southern State but one there are more educated women than all the illiterate voters, white and black, native and foreign, combined. As you probably know, of all the women in the South who can read and write, ten out of every eleven are white. When it comes to the proportion of property between the races, that of the white outweighs that of the black immeasurably.” - Belle Kearney
“Alien illiterates rule our cities today; the saloon is their palace, and the toddy stick their scepter. The colored race multiplies like the locusts of Egypt.” - Carrie Chapman Catt
“It is positively unsafe to allow young white women to walk alone on the highway, or to be left at home without male protectors. The brutal lust of the half-civilized gorillas seems to be in-flamed to madness —for five lynchings took place in Georgia for the crime of rape in the week preceding my address at Tybee.” - Rebecca Ann Latimer Felton
yessss queen lets keep dismissing white women's racism as somehow on men of colour. men of colour aren't the only people who have oppressed woc, white women & white men were doing it too.
