If I'm anything, it's easy to be influenced.

My professor drank from a small bowl during an online lecture, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for months! Why is that one (1) fucking lecture the reason I'm sitting here now drinking tea out of a bowl like that? What is this life? Why am I like this?

The Dragon Game

Pitaya and Anis were rarely competitive. They shared their living space and food, preferred wandering around and enjoying the scenery over flying races, and always encouraged each other to chase their dreams. Their only source of dispute was the card game. Oh, how they loved their illustrated cards!

They could bicker for hours, spinning stories of chickens, bears and unicorns. The chicken could easily fly around—of course it was not limited to just one hand! You might have a bear in your hand now, but surely it would wander off looking for honey; it couldn't possibly count for any points! And was that panda even awake?

At the end of the day, as Pitaya's queens took over the world, Anis sighed. A rematch seemed to be the only option.

Anna and Clara’s DIY Catalogue 2019 (I picked it up from Søstrene Grenes Handelskompagnie, Chester)

The catalogue uses a loose 3 column layout, with various sized images. The images are informative, visually describing the processes explained in the text.

The main bodies of texts use a san-serif font, but the headings are in a hand-written style script font. By using a script font, it compliments that the catalogue is for hand-made items - it suggests a level of authenticity and friendliness.

All pages have plenty of white space which stimulates readability.

Hej, wir bekommen einen Søstrene Grene Shop in Osnabrück – meiner Heimatstadt. Unglaublich! Seit dem 17. Mai 2019 befindet sich am Kamp ein kleines Stückchen Dänemark. Wie lange habe ich auf diesen Tag gewartet? Somit bekommen wir alle mehr vom dänischen Hygge-Lebensgefühl, denn Søstrene Grene bietet so viele tolle Sachen, die in Dänemark designt wurden, für einen kleinen Preis. Von Food, über Pflegeprodukte, DIY-Material, Deko, kleinen Möbeln, Küchen-Utensilien, Kinderspielzeug bis hin zu Schreibwaren findest Du dort Alles, was das Herz begehrt. Und natürlich ist alles im Skandi-Style und versprüht dänisches Design. Die Deko-Artikel sind minimalistisch, können im Store angefasst werden und sprechen eine gemeinsame Designsprache.

Einen Haken hat das Alles aber: Wenn Dir etwas gefällt, nimm es am besten sofort mit. Denn Nachbestellungen sind nicht möglich und das Sortiment ändert sich regelmäßig. Ich durfte schon vorab einen Blick in den Osnabrücker Shop werfen als die heiße Pre-Opening-Phase lief. Meine Eindrücke gibt es in diesem Blogpost. Søstrene Grene Shop in Osnabrück – mein erster Eindruck

Wer schon mal in einem Shop der dänischen Kette war, kennt dieses Gefühl. Man kommt in den Laden und ist sofort entspannt, es herrscht eine hyggelige Atmosphäre und man kommt runter. Der Alltag bleibt quasi draußen. Die Regale sind aus Holz, die Decke ist schwarz und die Produkte stehen im Fokus. Es fühlt sich natürlich an und im Hintergrund läuft leise klassische Musik. So ist es auch im Osnabrücker Store am Kamp, der knapp 200 Quadratmeter groß ist und sich auf der Erdgeschoss-Ebene befindet schräg gegenüber von Starbucks. Das gesamte Sortiment ist im Shop zu finden.

Du warst schon mal in einem Søstrene Grene Shop? Dann kennst Du die große Auswahl an Produkten. Im Eingangsbereich ist immer eine Auswahl an neuen Produkten zu sehen, auch saisonale Artikel zu Weihnachten und Ostern sind dort zu finden. Dann geht es weiter zu den Möbeln, Kinderspielzeugen und Vasen, Gläsern und Bechern aus dem Interieur-Bereich. Ein Stückchen weiter finden wir alles für den Schreibtisch und Büro: Stifte, Ordner und Blöcke und Mappen. Und schon geht es direkt weiter mit den DIY-Produkten und Party-Artikeln. Hier findet Ihr Alles, um Eurer Bastel-Leidenschaft nachzugehen. Dann geht es weiter mit Kissen, Kerzenständern und Badezimmer-Artikeln. Eine Ecke weiter entdeckt man noch mehr kleine Möbel, Vasen und Tassen. Hier findest Du auch viele Küchen-Utensilien.

Du brauchst Stauraum, um Kleinkram zu verstecken? Kein Problem, auch dafür gibt es Boxen, Schubladen-Elemente und Stoffsäcke. Du hast Hunger auf einen kleinen Snack? Strategisch gut positioniert vor den Kassen findest Du Süßigkeiten, Tee und Gewürze und etwas zu Trinken. Ich kann an dieser Stelle die Lakritzstangen mit Minze empfehlen. Sie sind die Besten! Sogar Muffin-Mischungen gibt es. Und keine Sorge: Es gibt auch Kerzen, Karten, Geschenkpapier und Servietten, die man eigentlich nicht immer braucht, aber trotzdem kaufen muss, weil sie so schön sind. Ich persönlich liebe die Post- und Geburtstagskarten. Sie sind nicht so kitschig und dafür aber schön gestaltet.

Søstrene Grene Shop in Osnabrück – Hygge Check

Ein Shop aus Dänemark, der mit Hygge wirbt, muss natürlich auch sein Hygge-Versprechen halten. Machen wir einen kleinen Hygge-Check: Was braucht man für eine hyggelige Zeit? Kissen! Die gibt es. Tee! Den findet man auch in vielen leckeren Sorten. Eine Tasse! Also bitte, davon gibt es wirklich genug bei Søstrene Grene. Kerzen? Da ist die Auswahl groß: ganz normal, als Teelicht oder Duftkerze. Jetzt fehlen nur noch ein paar Freunde, aber die musst Du selber einladen. 🙂 Und wenn noch noch was Backen oder Kochen willst, bekommst Du auch im Store die passenden Produkte. –

Ganz aktuell gibt es auch ein kleines Zelt, wo Kinder es sich gemütlich drin machen können oder eben hyggelig.

Ein kleiner Tipp: Wenn Du mal gestresst bist, kannst Du auch einfach mal so in den Shop gehen und Dich entspannen bzw. inspirieren lassen. Das geht auch.

Recycling old newspapers for Christmas wrapping paper

Sometimes the sweetest and simplest of ideas are born out of completely coincidental circumstances. A couple of weeks ago, when playing with air drying clay with the boys in preparation for a Christmas craft evening at mine, we mixed black and white clay together (an idea stolen from the wonderful world of Anna and Clara at Søstrene Grene) to make marble-effect decorations, and popped them on a piece of newspaper to dry.

The marble swirls of the decorations against the black and white print of the newspaper looked so nice. So chic. And then I accidentally dropped a length of black ribbon on them whilst I was unwrapping a parcel and it seemed to be the most perfect combination. That’s coming from someone who tends towards colour over monochrome any day of the week.

I rescued the remainder of the newspaper from the recycling bag, made a few more clay decorations and put in an order for a spool of rather luxurious black velvet ribbon. Here’s the result. Christmas wrapping from old newspapers, handmade tags and ribbon which can be reused. Here’s to more lucky accidents that turn out to be super stylish. What do you think?

The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence With its frank portrayal of human passion and sexual desire, the book was banned as 'obscene' in Britain shortly after first publication.
