One of the funniest moments of Anna Bolena is Henry VIII complaining that women love him only for the throne. Yes Henry; this is because your personality sucks.

OTD in Music History: Gaetano Donizetti’s (1797 – 1848) dramatic opera “Anna Bolena” premieres at the Teatro Carcano in Milan in 1830. “Anna Bolena” was Donizetti’s first international smash success, and it continued to enjoy regular revivals throughout the 19th Century before falling into obscurity in the early 20th Century (it has become increasingly common to see it presented on the stage once again in recent decades). Donizetti proved to be an incredibly prolific composer – he ultimately penned more than 60 operas before tragically dying of syphilis at the age of just 50 – and although much of this work was churned out rather hastily and now languishes on the pages of dusty old scores, he nevertheless still secured for himself a place in the history books as one of the greatest exponents of the “bel canto” style of Italian opera (alongside Giachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini). Several of Donizetti’s mature works still continue to hold the modern opera stage. PICTURED: A short untranslated autograph note written by Donizetti and addressed to a “Monsieur Duclot” at the “Theater Italien” (a Parisian opera house that specialized in presenting Italian operatic fare).

Went on Youtube looking for Vivi tu te ne scongiuro etc. It is like Don Carlo cage in here. At least two productions cut the scene entirely as far as I could tell; several others are just not gay enough; shockingly, none look like the beautiful production in my head. Not to mention the jumpscare n*tr*bk* in search results.
