#moonearthandskychallenge (@themidnight_novelist): #SnippetSaturday- Earth No better time to revisit some snippets from my novel, Be, and it's upcoming (somewhat) prequel, An Impossible Dream, along with a new snippet of the same setting (different time) from book 3 (another somewhat prequel), Where the Heart Is! In my Be Series, there's some overlap when and where the books take place, due to the shape of the series versus the timeline. The third book, Where the Heart Is, takes place over about 17 years, overlapping in the final 5 years with book two. The second book, An Impossible Dream, takes place over the course of 6 years, overlapping in terms of the timeline for the very last year with the first book, Be. The places the characters visit, also have some overlap, such as with the town surrounding the castle. The first quote is part of Clary's perspective on that town. The second is Sare's perspective of that same town about a decade later. And the last is Ari's perspective on that town about five years after Sare. "Gracelynn stood at the foot of the bed, one hand on her hip, the other tapping the handle of the scissors to her mouth. #WriterFriendsChallenge- If my book was a candle, it would smell like... Scent plays such an important role in my WIP, An Impossible Dream. There are so many to choose from and I'd rather do a collection of candles than a single one! I also make handmade scented bookmarks in my handmade business, @acorn_tops, and have plans for a set of scented bookmarks for a few of the characters. #FantasyIndiesSeptember- MC's skills @intothewickedwoods @chesneyinfalt Sare from my WIP, An Impossible Dream, has a great many skills. She can read, which is unusual for someone of her background. Her half-truths are unparalleled. She's good at sneaking around when she needs to be. And she can "play the game," as many character put it. One of my favorite moments that showcase some of her other skills, though, is the card game between her and Elsbie. #TheMoonStardustandSkychallenge @themidnight_novelist #TransformationTuesday It's sometimes hard to keep track of drafts while I write because of the way I write. Be, the first book in the series, had more than two banker boxes full of drafts for that novel. Mostly, though, I write what comes, a lot of times by hand in my notebooks. Then, I transfer that into the manuscript on my laptop, editing and shifting things as I go. When I feel I have most of it down, I begin quilting the different parts together, again editing and shifting. I read through with more edits once it is complete. Then it's off to beta readers and editors, and another read through for me. Constantly my stories evolve and transform. #WriterFriendsChallenge- The information I need ahead of time when writing depends greatly on the book I'm working on. For Sare's story, I knew her name and her relation to one of the MC's in the first book. Sometimes, though, I start a story with even less information. I'm a pantser, so I learn about the characters and I research as the story unravels.
