You don't have to draw him, but some friends and I were wondering if we were on the right track with shade the changing man being a mantis shrimp

I love you coming to me as the expert on this like it's a court case, I'm so honored. I looked up this guy, and then because the DC wiki is useless I read a smattering of issues from his runs over the years. It looks like this is a guy who got the Animal Man treatment and became real screwy and cerebral in the post-Watchmen era. I can REALLY feel the influence of Sandman allll over this. Hm, I do like mantis shrimp a lot... I can definitely see where you're coming from.

The rainbow coloring matches his rainbow coat/vest very nicely

The peacock mantis shrimp's most famous ability is the "punch" it can create by producing a kinetic wave in water, and I like how that aligns with his ability to create an invisible forcefield

I'm still on the fence about aliens in the Supercritters AU since I haven't had to tackle many yet, but I do like him being a very strange-looking critter

If I had to tackle this character from the start, I probably would've gone along similar themes. He does give me something invertebrate, something "weird in the ocean". I think I'd have landed on a species of octopus - blanket octopus or mimic octopus maybe - as it seems like more of his later character revolves around a fluidity of self and state, and a mind-bending reality-warping vibe that goes well with their symbolism.

All in all I like it and I approve. I'll add him to my list so I don't forget, and I'll get you a shimp in the future.

If I know art (which I do☝️🤓) I know that Ponyboy's art book(s) aren't all aesthetic drawings of plants or the sunsets. That's in his 'safe' book, his more 💥unsafe💥book has more risky sketches. Like anatomy of humans and animals, occasionally an oc of his. BUT I think, he likes drawing the stupidest animals he can find, then putting someone's head on it. Especially when he's mad. He has a page dedicated to Steve as a mosquito or Dally as a bald rat. But his favourite, Curry's face on a shrimp. He finds it so funny because as an artist, he can do this and nobody will know he's putting Curly Shepherd's (who's ego can be bigger than his muscles) face onto the body of a shrimp. A damn shimp. All because he didn't share a blunt or smth 🤦‍♂️

Minawii redesign :3 Original Concept by Skyeruu_art (I still regret not reaching out to them to ask about the redesign process. I only realized that was an option after I submitted them :c ) But I still really like how they turned out!

Yeah it's them sniffl The concept that got me back into the rec/novice team after a big purge of them (I mean you could still resubmit an application but I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that at the time) But look where I am now because of it!

They were scrapped because the anatomy was too weird (which is fair), and I forgot to specify that it would float off the ground for almost all of it's animations (that's on me)

I did try sketching out a few redesigns over the years to see if there were any I liked, but I realized that the roblox limitations would make it really hard to actually have the wings look good when they moved (I wanted the ends of the wings to move like dragontailed butterflies!)

Keeping shrimp is a bit straight forward but like every animal needs their own specifics.

My last tank all died but after a lot of research I think this new setup is gonna work,,, I'd look into some basics before buying any!! And also make sure to not dump a lot of money into the expensive morphs until you got the hang of it down with some more basic neocaridina :>

I hesitated to even post about this but I got laid off from my beloved office manager position at my kennel this last wednesday :( (more under the cut, but it’s long)

i’d been there as a kennel tech and then office manager for four years, and it was unexpected and I didn’t get to say goodbye to any of the dogs (we have about 95% regulars at any given time, i’ve helped raised some of the dogs and i’ve seen some of them almost every shift for the last 4 years too so ive been heartbroken.) They had to lay me off because after i got sick a few years ago i’ve had heart issues that have gotten worse and worse and left me unable to work in the heat or be on my feet too long, both of which would cause my heart rate to skyrocket (POTS-ish, if you are familiar with POTS) They have restructured the business to be less stressful with less dogs/capacity but as a result they only can feasibly employ kennel techs who can work the dogs and the office, which used to be not an issue for me. I was underpaid as an office manager but i told myself it was worth it because after i got sick they were so accommodating and supportive over the years. I thought that my health issues would “get better” cause i truly believed it but i had a cardiologist appointment this week too where my third cardiologist told me there was nothing more they could do for me (i hadn’t told my bosses about this appointment)

That job helped me through a tough time and supported me and i learned so much and I loved my bosses and my coworkers and my dogs. I don’t hold it against them, I just wish they had let me know sooner instead of keeping me in the dark. I still care for the people there. Thank you for reading if you did! I’m starting to feel better but job searching is a daunting task! It’s hard to find animal office related jobs that don’t require you to be on your feet for long periods of time with no breaks

I didn’t want to post about it until i had already sold some of the plush cause I didn’t want that to be a factor in people choosing to purchase them from me 😅 but yeah i’ve been down about this for almost a week now which is why i have been slower at posting.

Mermay Twisted Wonderland Fan Event

All right, since a lot of you seem to enjoy me last Fan Event, I decided to make one of Mermay. The story? While on a school trip to the Atlantica Memorial in the Coral Sea a rouge transformation potion ends up turning several of the students, including Yuu and Grim, into merfolk. Now, the student must find a way to reverse the effects before the transformation becomes permanent.

Yuu: It was really nice of Crowley to make this trip happen.

Ace: Really, cause the last time we were here we had to "borrow" a picture because a certain octopus tricked some of us into a losing contract.

Azul: My contract was fair, you just didn't consider the fact that only at maximum, 50 people would actually pas.

Deuce: He does have a point there.

Grim: Besides, Yuu was able to free us.

Yuu: But I almost lost the dorm because of you three!

Floyd: Aww, little shrimp is being all defensive. Trying to seem big and strong right?

Yuu: *shrieks of terror*

Jade: Little shrimp is so cute when they are scared.

Floyd: Right!? I just wanna give them a nice squeeze!

Grim: I think this is our cue to go!

Ace: Don't need to tell twice!

*Later*

Yuu: So Jack, I didn't expect you to be here. What, with the fluffy ears you have.

Jack: It is a bother sometimes, but I got used to it.

Grim: Hey, where's Epel?

Jack: Most, if not all the Pomfiore students were not allowed to go.

Yuu: Bummer, I bet Epel would have loved this.

???: WATCH OUT!!

*CRASH*

Yuu: What happened?! Is everyone all right?!

When the cloud clears, everyone seems all right. But they know something is not right.

Jack: Wait. When did Yuu have a shrimp tail.

Yuu: WHAT!?

Grim: Yeah, and look. Ace is a crab!

Ace: This can't be true.

Azul: What happened, we heard an explosion.

Floyd: Look, little shrimp is now a real shrimp. Come here so I can squeeze you.

*When Yuu said that there was a sudden blast of hot air, and no not a fart. Cause as it turns out, Yuu is no ordinary shimp, Yuu is a pistol shrimp*

Jade: That was suprising.

Azul: Indeed, the potion not only turned them into merfolk, but also gave them certain abilities depending on what animal they are.

???: I AM SO SORRY! THIS IS MY FAULT!

Ace: Who are you?

Alex: Oh, my name is Alex, I am an axolotl mer and I am studying to be a potion maker or at least a chemist. (Don't worry I will make a post to properly introduce this shy child soon)

Azul: So you made a transformation potion, and it must have gotten out of your hand right?

Alex: Yeah, I can make something to reverse the effects but I am missing a few ingredients. We also might have to hurry.

Yuu: Let me guess, the potions effects will become permanent if we don't reverse the effects in time right?

Alex: Right, so if, I'm sorry what are your names?

Yuu: I'm Yuu, this is Ace, Grim, Deuce, Jack, Azul, and Jade and Floyd.

Alex: Wait, you all are from Night Raven Collage right?

Yuu: Yeah. Is there something wrong with that?

Alex: NO! It's just that I really hope to get into NRC one day.

Yuu: I am sure you will. Now, Azul, Jade, and Floyd, you three help Alex while the rest of us look for those missing ingredients all right.

Everyone: Right!

Alex: Here's the list and where to find them.

Yuu: Thanks, all right team. Let's move out!

And so, the team must beat the clock to reverse the effects before it is to late. As usual I invite any one to try write there own version of these events and for artists to draw basically anything about this. Just let your imagination run wild!

waffles has her big monster form but she calls it her “protection self” because it has a built in safe room, sorta like a cozy space she can tuck people away in that has sorta soft low colorful lights and pink plush walls

sheldon is made of warm semisolid goo so he gives good hugs. don’t hug him too long though cuz u might get your arms sucked in accidentally. it’s not harmful but y’know just nip that in the bud

Lockdown paved the way for many of us to spend an ungodly amount of time researching something previously non-existent in and unessential to our lives. Closed eco-spheres and fancy goldfish are the gateway drugs of this story. 

I had fish growing up, but I think the tank was gone before high school. My father liked to keep all sorts of critters without any real regard for their needs or quality of life. I’m quite surprised anything I kept ever lived considering he passed on that blasé, careless style of fish keeping and animal care to young me. As a fisherman himself, and someone who frequently missed out on emotional growth opportunities and failed trials of judgement due to pharmaceutical malpractice, animal lives didn’t mean much to him. The most consistent recurring dream I have (or had, as it seems) is “remembering” after apparent weeks of having forgotten, that I have fish and a fish room. Half empty, murky tanks with fish that haven't been fed in ages. Yet they are all alive, always. I panic and clean and feed and add water and everything is back to normal, but animals go weeks without care in my dreams and I’m not sure why this is. Lingering guilt of being unable to take care of creatures while you’re too sick to care for yourself is my guess. 

Obvious and relevant psychological distress aside, I spent weeks in quarantine consuming endless fish content. A betta tank was the initial intention, just something little with frilly dragon decorations. A fully planted, naturally scaped 10 gallon tank later (with a quarantine tank in progress) I went a little off track. So here is what I’m rocking now.

Plants: -Mayaca fluviatilis which is growing SO WELL for me. 

-Marimo moss balls

-Monte Carlo that I still do not know how to plant properly, yes I know they look like weird little bushes but they pearl for me so they are at least surviving !?!

-Anubias Nana Petite that is just chillin’ in the flow because I initially tied it to the largest piece of driftwood as the white bacterial slime started engulfing it, and the slime rotted out the roots. I’ll tie it to something eventually but it’s sprouting new leaves being untethered so I’m letting little dude do its thing. 

-Java Moss newly tied to a rock that was also rotting on white slime driftwood initially. 

Red root floaters & Salvinia Cucullata suffering from too much flow and no protective barrier from it hehe. The Fogbit is doing well, though. 

The tank is stocked with corydoras pygmaeus, amano shrimp, nerite snails, and boraras brigittae. Next post I’ll go into the journey that adding fish was, and screwing up the nitrogen cycle with the shimp… 

Unlike past fish keeping as I was taught, I am obsessed and devoted to my emotional support tank. I’m very proud of myself for being able to take care of such a diverse variety of life, regardless of the setbacks from real time learning.

America's national bird is threatened by hunters. Not that hunters are taking aim at the iconic bald eagle, but bald eagles are dying after eating lead bullets, as CNN reported.

The Cape Fear Raptor Center, North Carolina's largest eagle rehab facility, has recently treated seven eagles for lead poisoning, executive director Dr. Joni Shimp told CNN. The center also said that 80 percent of the eagles it has had to euthanize since November were because of lead poisoning.

Similarly, officials from the Hatteras Island Wildlife Rehabilitation in North Carolina said that 70 to 80 percent of the eagles they treat have high levels of lead in their system, and the effects are devastating, according to WTKR in North Carolina and coastal Virginia.

"The bird is lethargic, it's limp, it may have vision problems, staggering, legs not working correctly," explained Lou Browning of Hatteras Island Wildlife Rehabilitation to WTKR.

As CNN explained, hunters use lead bullets to kill deer and other animals. When the eagles feast upon the dead animals, they are indirectly exposed to toxic levels of lead.

"Hunters in no way, shape or form intentionally try to kill an eagle, vulture or any other species," Shimp said to CNN. "If the deer isn't killed immediately and runs and the hunter can't find the deer, the eagles and vultures find it and ingest the lead."

Shimp also explained some of the neurological problems that result from lead exposure to eagles. She told CNN that the eagles will show a "lack of judgment when flying across roadways, the inability to take flight quickly resulting in being hit by cars, seizures and death."

The bullets hunters use often scatter into tiny fragments that travel through an animal's body.

Studies Supporting the use of Animation in Advertising.

Peripheral route of processing according to the Elaboration Likelihood Model uses different types of affective stimuli (e.g., background music, pleasant visual scenes, characters, and images), as these elements require less cognitive effort on the viewer’s part. Because animated stimuli rely heavily on these more aesthetic factors, research on animated ads should note the influence of lower-level peripheral processing routes on viewer persuasion.

Classical conditioning suggests that positive attitudes towards an advertised product (conditioned stimulus) might develop through the product’s association with other stimuli that consumers relate to positively (unconditioned stimuli). Attractive colours, pleasant music, and humour act as the potential unconditioned stimuli in commercials (Gorn 1982, p.94).

Addition of sound and motion in TV commercials not only affect the executional features of ads but these elements also increase its nature. TV commercial is also can be defined as an unbroken flow of sounds, video and graphical effects. As a result, television commercials have a spontaneous attention grabbing aspect (Shimp, 1997).  

Baylor, Ryu and Shen (2003) examine the effects of voice and animation on learning and motivation. The findings of the research reveal that people tend to learn more notably when the agent is animated. Another interesting fact found in this study is that although animation helps in learning still it reduces the motivation level of participants about the topic. Effects of voice on motivation also found that participants tend to feel more motivated when human voice is used on agents as compared to machine generated voice.  

Fangfang and Sundar (2004) examine how pop-up windows and online animated ads can influence memory and favorable response on those who work online. Four online portals websites are selected for study and experimental research. Each websites contain a banner ad and it’s either animated or static and a pop up that falls under the same criteria. The response of participants is recorded through a post exposure paper and a paper based questionnaire. They report that pop up adds bring out orienting responses, and compared to banner ads, the pop up ads resulted in lower ad recognition but higher recall.

If animation is employed in an electronic presentation then it may result in better recalling as compared to no animation use (Park, 2006). Further he argued that continuous display of animation might have a better effect on students recall than no display of animation graphics. But there observed no positive effect on student’s recall after a simultaneous display of animated graphics as matched up to no display of animated graphics, although it did contain animation.  

Yoo and Patricia (2008), attempt to examine, the effects of animated banner ads through an online experiment. The findings bring quite expected results as it was observed that banners ads which used animations are more effective on consumers as compared to the static ones. Similarly they are capable of catching more attention and are remembered by consumers at a higher level when compared to static category. Moreover, an individual’s product involvement moderates the effects of animated banner advertising on recall, and clickthrough intention.

The use of animation in websites has been multiplied over a few years by a substantial number of firms. Although the expenditure spent on animated sites are far more as compared to what it costs in the making of static web sites, still its usage in online media is at its peak at present. Animation effects in changing consumers’ behavior and action towards a particular product was studied by Kai Lung, findings revealed that usage of animation in ads make it easy to recall, however still it does not guarantee that consumers will change their production loyalty which they found more “utilitarian” in nature (Kai Lung HUI et al., 2009).
