BEAST MODE 2.0
.
This is a single redraw what I wanted to do and see the comparison with the old drawing style that I have been working on over the years, the truth is I am happy to have a characteristic style for this feral boy itself, making it more brutal and epic! 👀
.
ENJOY!!!

Would you describe the Warners' relationship as an enmeshed relationship/an example of enmeshment? I assume you're not a psychologist (or maybe you are, in which case sorry for the false assumption 😅) but I love your analyses of the Warners and am interested in hearing your thoughts.
If I was a psychologist, I likely wouldn't have had to look up what enmeshment is! I won't dig too deeply into it because this is an issue that affects real people and I am obviously not educated on it.
From my surface level understanding, enmeshment seems to be a toxic family relationship where individuality is discouraged in favor of prioritizing the family unit or the familial figures of authority. There are some characteristics of enmeshment that the Warners share. They're always together, they usually act as a unit, and they don't have strong boundaries.
However, it seems to me that a key part of enmeshment is that it's enforced by a family culture that expects you to be less individual and more just a part of the family unit. The Warners don't enforce conformity between each other. They support each other in every way and they celebrate their differences. Something that comes to mind is Wakko's burping concerts, where his siblings happily take on a supporting role, even though gross out humor isn't their thing. They don't expect Wakko to be just like them. They don't enforce unanimity or conformist thought. They're allowed to disagree with each other and say no to things. In fact, they do so quite often.
What the Warners have going on might not be entirely healthy, but I don't think it's enmeshment. I think it's more a bond formed through trauma and mutual protectiveness. They're always together because they all don't like being apart, possibly driven by separation anxiety or anxiety in general. The younger siblings look up to Yakko so much that they tend to agree with him and go along with his ideas without much thought. However, if they disagreed with something he said or refused to go along with a plan, he absolutely wouldn't punish them or make them feel like they're going against the family culture. He's very supportive of their individual wants and needs.
There definitely might be some psychiatric term for what the Warners have going on. They definitely seem much closer than just regular loving siblings. I've described them before as three cells of a single organism. Not being a psychologist though, I wouldn't even know where to start.
It's super flattering to hear your thoughts on my analyses! I love getting a chance to dig into their minds :D

How do you torment your favs (aka how have you traumatized some of your favourite characters)?
Well, if we're talking broadly here I mostly give them mommy issues, but lets go character by character here for the nitty gritty/true pattern examination
TW for mentions of miscarriages, abusive parents, and just a lot of trauma
Apple White-- Mommy issues, internalized homophobia that she does mostly get over but it doesn't help when a lot of the world is homophobic to her, body image issues, and a possible eating disorder
Darling Charming-- mommy issues, daddy issues, experiences a lot of homophobia and misogyny
Louie Duck-- Just. Just the worst mommy issues. Wants Della to love him so bad but feels like it's literally impossible because of their differences and his "glaring" flaws and selfishness
Yakko, Wakko, and Dot (Long Live the Queen) (idk how to write normal universe whoopsies)-- Abusive grandmother who actively tries to (and nearly accomplishes) murdering their parents making their parents have to abandon them for a year, Yakko has parentification trauma from that, Wakko gets literally starved and locked in a tower on multiple occassions, and Dot feels like it's all her fault whenever Wakko gets hurt because she's supposed to be the perfect princess. It gets fixed but it do be a lot
Lena Warner (my oc from Long Live the Queen)-- Abusive mother who literally attempted to kill her. Wants very badly to be a proper mother to her children and keep them safe, but her mother has far too much control and power over her for that to be truly possible. Had a runaway marriage in her late teens in order to avoid being married off to some old guy. Her mother's murder attempt caused a miscarriage and robbed her of a year with her children while she had to physically recover from her injuries. Ended up killing her in the end though, so that's good.
MK (dadsy of two)-- dead parents that were incredibly abusive (especially his "mother"), a burning desire for closeness to his guardian that he feels he can't access out of fear of attachment + Pigsy's own distant behavior at unpredictable moments. Desperately wants Pigsy to be his dad and nothing hurts more than when Pigsy actively denies it. Craves affection and praise more than anything in the whole wide world but doesn't know how to accept it/how to react when it happens.
Mei (dadsy of two)-- dead parents who gave her severe perfectionism but died before they could ever apologize/acknowledge/realize any damage done. Blames herself for starting the fire because she knocked over an ancestral artifact (that fire was actually fixed, the fire that killed them is unrelated but she'll never believe that). Wants to be the perfect daughter for Pigsy while also not feeling like she's actually his daughter because of the distance + complicated grief related feelings.
Pigsy (dadsy of two)-- tbh what haven't I done to him? Gave him guilt over the death of Sandy's ex fiancee due to "causing" Sandy's trauma that lead to the incident, gave him mommy and even worse daddy issues, deals with fantasy racism on such a regular basis he believes being distant with MK and Mei (ala saying he isn't their father/he's only their legal guardian) is the only way to really protect them from it (and even that backfires on more than one occasion). Internalized fatphobia. PTSD. Smoker. Severe lack of self esteem. Couldn't give less of a shit about himself and his own health (ESPECIALLY mental) while worrying endlessly about everyone else. Just. just so much trauma for one man. what the fuck.
Tang (all fanfics)-- Abusive, severely homophobic parents who cut him off when he was 19 due to finding out about his homosexuality. Could barely afford food for a year until he met Pigsy and basically relied on his charity in order to not starve to death/suffer the effects of severe malnutrition and still continue his education. Loves Pigsy endlessly and hates watching him torture himself over the littlest things (knows he does the same and feels so helpless every time it happens). Wants to be a dad to MK (and Mei) desperately but worries he's nothing compared to Pigsy. Has constantly had his passions belittled and mocked to the point it's genuinely surprising to him that MK actually likes his stories and the way he does things.
Sandy (all fanfics)-- PTSD, guilt over having missed 20+ years of his best friend's life. In Dadsy of Two he killed his fiancee after a nightmare about the war he and Pigsy had fought. Wanted to be a parent but after that accident, he can't trust himself with another human life like that. Has a hard time trying not to be "the therapist friend" and poking where he shouldn't when it comes to his friend's emotional issues (especially Pigsy's). Had just the worst toxic romance with Pigsy ever that was just the hottest of messes before it all fell apart but they tried to be friends (until his fiance's death) (the time away was very much needed for them both to heal and grow so they could actually be good friends again but it still hurts it took that long).
Pigsy (Li Na AU)-- most of the above but even more trauma around fatherhood, only made worse by the fact he had five miscarriages in the past (only three Tang knows about). Buries that pain instead of talking about it and believes that because Li Na is alive and well the pain is gone (it's not. it lives within him in every waking moment and is why he's so fucking terrified at the thought of losing her or MK).
....So yeah! Just--.... Just so much man, damn wtf someone needs to take them away from me I keep hurting them, wtf---

anyone remember these two characters that legit mean nothing and only showed up once and never again in the pink and the brain spin off?
I love them gfdjnkgfd I’ve unironically been doodling them interreacting normal patb or dark pinky, I’m gen debating iff I wanna digitalize some of the concepts and comics have because it gen makes me happy
I think one of the reasons why I grew so attached is they really give me that Mlp gen 1 stank and Mlp is a big interest of mine and a big comfort, and knowing patb are a big comfort too, see what I’m saying?

Meeting Goofy
Summary: Yakko meets Goofy for the first time at Christmas and Max spends more time worrying about his dad embarrassing him than he does celebrating the holiday. Ao3 Link: [ link ] Pairings: Yakko Warner/Max Goof Words: 5,324 A/N: A secret Santa gift I made for @animaniacssecretsanta and @theonethatyaks93 ! Fic:
Yakko gathers things out of the wardrobe he keeps his belongings in, grabbing a few things here and there. A couple of sweaters, some undershirts, thicker socks in case it’s colder than he expects. They’re going further north, so he’ll have to actually wear shoes which will be weird, but Max says it actually snows quite a bit in his hometown.
His home town. Where Yakko will finally be meeting Max’s dad. A year and a half into their relationship. Well after Max had met both of his siblings. But it makes sense, Goofy live a three hour car ride away.
“Are ya’ bringin’ the gifts that Dot an’ I got ya’?” Wakko asks, bringing Yakko out of his brief moment of thought. He looks at his little sibling, no longer very little at all. Wakko has been taller than him since he turned 14, and now at 18 he’s both taller and wider.
“No, I’m not bringing them. I  told you, I’ll be back on the 24th. I’m not missing Christmas with you guys.” He smiles like it’s obvious, but the hint of real worry shows at its edges. Worry that his siblings will think he’s abandoning him.
They’ve never spent a Christmas apart, not for as long as they can remember. And they still won’t, but they’ve never been away from one another this long before. Only two nights, but still…
He looks up at Wakko, frowning. “Are you sure you guys are okay with me going?” He asks for what feels like the hundredth time since the plans were suggested, and Wakko rolls his eyes.
“Yes, ’m sure that Dot an’ I will be fine for the barely 48 hours that ya’ will be gone for, Yakko,” he tells him as he sits on the couch and shrugs his shoulders. “Ya better jus’ hope that the apartment survives the party I plan t’throw,” he jokes.
Yakko smirks at him, crossing his arms playfully. “Well, you better tell your party goers that they’re not allowed in my room.”
“Ya’ sleep in the livin’ room!” Wakko tells him with a faux indignation.
“Exactly.” Yakko lets out a laugh as Wakko sticks his tongue out at him before his smile fades into something softer. “But you two will really be okay?” He asks, and Wakko’s own smile shifts as well.
“‘Course we will, Yakko. We’re your lil’ siblings. We can handle the world.” He pulls him in for a tight embrace before Dot calls out from the kitchen;
“Max is here!” She turns around, moving back into the living room.
Wakko pulls out of the hug as she comes over, a smile on his face.
“We’ll be fine, Yakko. Really.” He tells him again. “Go have fun meetin’  your boyfriend’s dad. We’ll be here when ya’ get back Chris’mas Eve.”
Yakko smiles, hugging Wakko again before pulling Dot into an equally tight embrace. There’s a knock on the door a few seconds later.
Yakko takes a breath, giving his siblings one last look, and Dot takes it as her cue to roll her eyes this time.
“We’ll be fine, really. Go have fun, Yakko, yeesh.” Her smile is well-meaning though, and just on this side of sweet.
“Yeah, right, okay.” He nods before walking over to the door and pulling it open.
On the other side Max stands there smiling.
“Hey, Ko, you ready to go?” He says with the lopsided grin that Yakko adores. And he nods.
“Yeah, I’m ready.” He tells him, before once again turning to his siblings. “If you two need me for absolutely anything-”
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll give ya’ a ring, we get it, go on, Yakko, have fun!” Wakko calls back, shooing him towards the door and Yakko sighs.
“Okay. I’ll see you on Christmas Eve.” He says before looking back at Max with a sheepish smile. “Okay, ready.”
Max only rolls his eyes with a well-meaning smile. “They’ll be fine, Yakko, c’mon.Your chariot awaits.”
“Is that what we’re calling your old beater now?”
The drive is relatively uneventful. It’s three hours up to the northern part of the state, and it mostly consists of highways. Save for the 20 minutes that they had pulled off to get a snack.
They play car games, courtesy of Yakko, and talk about everything and nothing. Regular activities for when they’re sitting on his or Max’s couch.
It’s not until they’re about 5 minutes out from Max’s childhood home does the older boy start to get antsy.
Yakko looks over with a raised eyebrow as the dog starts tapping his fingers against the steering wheel. His head tilts at the action before he looks up at Max’s face.
“Are… you alright…?” He asks, and Max sighs a little too quickly to not know that the question had been coming.
“Yeah, yeah I’m good. Totally good. I’m just… you know… You’re about to meet my dad for the first time.” He shrugs, then gives a nervous smile like he’s joking but not quite. “Our relationship is practically over.”
Yakko finds the tension he’s holding at his boyfriend’s nervousness to drop from his shoulders immediately.
“Oh come on, Max. Your dad is not that bad.” He tells him, and before Max can try and prove him wrong, he keeps speaking. “You’ve told me about him. He sounds great. It’s going to be fine.”
Max only sighs again, sinking in his seat as they pull up onto a quiet, residential street.
“Whatever you say…” He mutters under his breath, but before Yakko can comment on it, he’s distracted by what is clearly Max’s childhood home. Made evident by the large ‘Welcome Home Maxie and Yakko’ sign hanging on the front of it.
“Here we go,” Max mutters as they pull into the driveway.
As soon as the car is put in park, a whole lightshow turns on; Christmas lights and blown up figures come to life as if it had been timed perfectly. And by the figure in the window now scrambling for the front door, Yakko assumes that it had been.
“Oh, this was a mistake,” Max says again as the front door is thrown open and an older dog with a striking resemblance to Max steps out.
“Welcome Home, Maxie!” Goody calls out from across the lawn. Max opens the car door, starting to pull himself out as he waves.
“Hey dad,” he says as Goofy makes his way over. “Man, you really went all out, hu-ugh-” His word cuts off in a grunt as Goofy wraps his arms around him and pulls him into a hug.
“Of course I did, Maxie! It’s just my specialist little guy coming back for Christmas,” he says as he backs off and ruffles Max’s hair.
“Oh, c’mon, dad,” Max gripes, but Goofy isn’t paying attention anymore as Yakko gets out of the other side of the car.
“And you must be Yakko,” Goofy says as he walks over to greet him.
Yakko offers a hand out, “It’s nice to meet you-” And he’s cut off just as Max had been as Goofy pulls him up into a hug, spinning him around once just for good measure.
“I’m just tickled to finally meet you, Yakko. My Maxie has told me all about you,” he gushes before setting Yakko back down on the ground.
His cheeks are a bit pink, reaching up to scratch the back of his head. “Y-yeah, it’s nice to meet you too, Mr. Goof,” he finishes his prior sentence as Goofy waves him off.
“Aw, c’mon now, none of that. Call me Goofy! I know it’s a bit odd, but everyone does.” He beams down at Yakko and he offers a smile and a shrug.
“I’m not exactly a stranger to weird names.” He tells him, and Goofy lets out a loud hyuck.
“Quick as a whip, just like my Maxie said you were!” There’s nothing but pride in his voice as he steps between the two boys and leads them into the house.
“Come right on it, I’ve got some food all whipped up and ready after a drive like that.”
As they’re walking up to the front door Yakko gets a better look at all the decorations.
“I love what you’ve done with the decor. Real’ festive.” He smiles up at Goofy and Max just rolls his eyes.
“The sign is a bit overboard,” he comments, and Goofy just lets out another laugh.
“Well, I had to let everyone know that my Maxie was coming home for Christmas. All the way back from the big city where he’s getting himself a good education. And with his boyfriend, too!” Goofy continues to gush, Max’s face turning a bit red.
“I am sure the neighbours didn’t need a sign proclaiming that I’m visiting,” Max retorts but they’re going inside and Goofy is immediately side tracked.
“Okay boys, right this way!”
They get into the kitchen, and on the table is an abundance of food all laid out. Yakko lets out a low whistle as he gets sight of it.
“Wow, you went all out in all regards,” he comments as Goofy continues to lead them into the dining area.
“Right-O! Now, of course, we’ll be having the real main course tomorrow for an early Christmas dinner while we’ve got ya’ here, Yakko, but I figured after a long drive all the way from the big ol’ city you two boys would be famished!”
Max moves forward, sitting down at the table. “You got that right, dad,” he says with a smile as he starts grabbing dishes of food.
Yakko sits down next to him, leaning on the table with a smirk. “Never mind the pitstop for dinner we had not an hour ago,” he tells him, and Max meets him with a playful smirk of his own.
“I’m a growing boy, Yakko,” he says in a deadpanned voice, and Yakko can only roll his eyes before getting a small plate of food himself.
Goofy sits down at the table across from them and serves himself a good helping of food.
“So, Yakko, tell me about yourself. I’ve gotten the odds and ends from Max, but I feel like I barely know ya’!”
“Dad, don’t bug him, I’m sure he doesn’t want to answer a bunch of questions,” Max tells him around a mouthful of food.
“Awe, c’mon, Maxie, I’m just getting to know him,” Goofy pleads with his son, before looking back at Yakko. “Maxie was telling me that ya’ got a couple of little siblings?” He asks trying to start off small, and Yakko smiles.
“Yeah, Wakko, my younger sibling, he’s 18. He started college this year, full ride scholarship in an engineering program. And Dot, our little sister. She’s 16, and I’m pretty sure she’s going to end up being president or something.” Yakko tells him, pushing food around his plate with his fork. “They had to convince me to let them stay home alone this weekend. Wakko is technically old enough to watch Dot for a couple of nights, but what can I say? I worry. ” He shrugs a bit, humour in his voice as he admits his over-protective nature, but Goofy only raises an eyebrow.
“Where are your parents at, then?” Goofy asks, and Max frowns.
“Dad.” The word comes out in a hiss as Yakko flusters.
“It’s okay, Max,” Yakko tells him, resting a hand on his wrist before looking back at Goofy. “Our parents passed away a while back. It’s just us now.” He doesn’t speak as much as he usually would, but it’s not exactly a topic he enjoys speaking about.
Goofy seems to read his reluctance to speak about it, though, and offers him a smile.
“Well, if I had known that I would’ve had Maxie invite the whole lot of ya’ down. Least I know for next time though. That siblin’ of yours seems awful smart to get a full ride scholarship, though!” He keeps his voice cheery, and Yakko smiles, glad to move on from the subject quickly enough.
It’s later on that evening, after dinner is done and everything has been tidied up, including the few dishes that Goofy managed to break before Max took over washing, that Yakko finds himself being led up to Max’s childhood bedroom.
He looks around as the door opens, eyes wandering from all of the little trinkets that hadn’t made it to college with Max. Pictures, posters, knicknacks. Anything deemed inconsequential, or too juvenile.
“I’m really sorry about my dad, Yakko,” Max tells him as he pulls their luggage into the room, insisting on carrying it for his smaller boyfriend. “He can be insensitive sometimes. Just a real’ goof.”
Yakko looks over his shoulder, away from the photographs that line Max’s mirror, raising an eyebrow. “It’s not a big deal, Max. Anyone would have questions.” As to why a 21 year old is in charge of their younger siblings. It’s only logical to ask, even if it brings up less than stellar feelings.
Max sighs, making his way over. “I’m still sorry. I should have, I don’t know, told him in advance or something.”
Yakko only smiles, shrugging him off as he turns. “It’s fine, really Max,” he tells him, smiling up at him. Then, before Max can say anything else, Yakko nods to the pictures. “Who’s she?”
Max looks over just to see his prom picture. Him and Roxanne.
“Oh! Um, oh, y’know-” He moves to grab the picture and pull it down. “Just um, a friend. From highschool. No one, really.” He says, moving to tuck the picture away in a drawer. He doesn’t move fast enough, Yakko reaches over and plucks it out of his hand.
“Oh, she’s pretty.” He teases, a smile on his face as he does. “What’s her name?”
“Awe, c’mon, Yakko.” Max says reaching to take the picture back, but he can’t help but smile. “Roxanne, okay? We dated for a couple years, went to prom, split up before we actually got to the dance though. Figured we were heading in different directions, y’know?” He stops trying to wrestle for the picture, holding his hand out for it.
Yakko takes one more look, first at the picture, then at Max standing in front of him and smiles as he hands the picture back. “She should have held out. I got you fully cooked.” He teases, poking his boyfriend in the chest, now much broader than it had been in the picture.
Max rolls his eyes. “Alright, that’s enough, time for bed. No doubt we’ll be handed many more disasters as soon as the sun rises,” he says, piloting Yakko towards the bed.
“Whatever you say, Maximilian.”
The two boys wake up the next morning to the sound of a crash and a scream.
Yakko is instantly sitting up, eyes wide, hair tousled, looking around the room. “What was that?”
“I told you. Soon as the sun rises,” Max responds groggily as he pushes himself up.
“That’s your dad?” The other asks before he’s getting out of bed, grabbing a sweater on his way out the door to pull on over his head. Max only sighs.
“Told you,” he says again. He gets up with a groan, running a hand through his hair before grabbing his own hoodie and making his way downstairs a few steps behind Yakko. Once he gets there, he sees the remnants of a bowl scattered across the floor as Yakko tries to both keep his distance and pass Goofy a broom.
“Hey, woah, careful, ‘Ko,” Max says, moving towards the mess. He takes the broom from Yakko’s hand and pushes him back a step, much to Yakko’s surprise, before passing it to his dad with his longer reach. “What happened?”
“Oh, y’know how it is, Maxie. The old feet got from under me again.” Goofy waves off as he takes the broom. “I’ll have breakfast out and ready in no time. Most important meal of the day!”
“Yeah, okay. We’ll go wait in the dining room,” Max tells him, wrapping an arm around Yakko and beginning to lead him away.
“It’s okay, we can-” Yakko starts to say, only to get cut off by Max.
“No, I really don’t think we should. It’ll be safer in the dining room.” Yakko looks perplexed as he’s led away, frowning up at Max, though the older boy seems to not notice as he continues to pull him out.
About 15 minutes later, and much clinking and clanking throughout that time which only cemented Max’s desire to keep Yakko out of harm's way, Goofy is serving out a tray of food.
“There you go, boys! Eat up, we’ve got a big day ahead of us!” He smiles. “First we’re going to head over to go see some carollers in the town square, then help out at the food bank and serve up some lunch for the hungry, then we’re gonna head on over to the park. They’ve got ice skating!”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, dad?” He asks, and Goofy only smiles.
“Of course it is, Maxie! We help out at the food bank every year!”
“No, I meant the ice.. skating…” But it’s too late, Goofy is already making his way further into the house to get ready, Max’s worry falling on deaf ears.
Save for Yakko's.
He smiles up at him, soft and sweet and unlike his usual smirks. “I’m sure it’ll be fine, Max. What’s the worst thing that could happen?”
Max just groans. “If you have to ask, you don’t know.”
For the most part, the day goes well.
They go see some carollers, Goofy insisting on joining in but at least it doesn’t end in disaster. Just some mild embarrassment on Max’s part. Then, at the food bank, he lucks out. They have his dad seating people, having learned from experience that it’s best to keep him away from anything that he can spill or break, while Max and Yakko get to serve food.
Which also means he gets to see his cute boyfriend wearing a cute apron, but that’s neither here nor there.
Though, unfortunately, even with the pleasant distraction, he still finds himself constantly searching out his father in the hall, making sure he’s not doing anything to cause a scene.
By the time they get to the park, it’s getting dark, and the streetlamps are starting to light up.
“Wait, are you serious, you’ve never ice skated before?” Max asks incredulously.
Yakko shrugs, trying to not make a big deal out of it. “Not that I can remember. Maybe when I was little but, yeah, not really.”
“Wow, this is great. I finally get to teach you how to do something!” Max laughs, only for Yakko to shove his arm, playfully rolling his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. How hard could it even be? It’s just walking with extra steps,” Yakko tells him as Max leads him over to the stall to rent skates.
They get him a pair, and get them laced up over his feet before Max is carefully guiding him out onto the rink.
“We’ll be out on the ice, dad!” Max says, looking back at his dad only to see him tangled up in his own laces.
“I’ll meet you out there, kids! Just as soon as I figure out these gosh darn laces.”
Max just looks away, running a hand down his face. “Yeah, okay, dad.”
He has much better things to think about than his dad embarrassing him. Like the way Yakko is holding onto his arm and shaking like a newborn deer in his skates.
“Okay, just step out onto the ice with me,” Max says in a sweet tone, which only makes Yakko roll his eyes.
“I’ve got it. Like I said, just walking with extra steps,” he repeats himself, stepping onto the ice only to face plant into Max’s chest. Immediately, his cheeks light up, and he looks up at Max’s smug grin. “Okay… more extra steps than I anticipated.”
“Whatever you say, ‘Ko,” Max tells him as he helps him stand back up on the skates. His legs continue to shake as Max leads them out a few more steps, trying to join the groups of people skating around in circles. “Just hold on tight and everything will be fine.”
Yakko rolls his eyes again, but his cheeks are still a bit red as Max helps him straighten out, his legs still shaking underneath him. “Yeah, sure, whatever you say, Maximilian.” But he does hold on to him, he doesn’t exactly want to fall in front of all of these people.
After a few moments, Yakko at least feels a bit more confident that he won’t fall on his tail, but not nearly confident enough to let go. He keeps a tight hold, letting Max lead him around the ice.
“Heyo, Maxie, here I come!” Max hears his dad call out behind him, looking over his shoulder to see his father with his skates on and coming out onto the ice.
“Oh no. Here we go,” Max mutters, but it seems out of place. As Goofy comes towards them, Yakko smiles.
“Wow, your dad is really good at skating, Max,” he tells him as the older Goof comes closer with practised moves. “Look, he can even do jumps.” Yakko’s smile is wide as he watches, and Max’s frown only deepens.
“Yeah, that’s how it always starts. C’mon, Yakko.” He tries to move a little faster, trying to put some distance between them and his father but Yakko’s still shaky movements slow him down.
“Why, lookit you, Yakko! You’re getting a quick hand of it!” Goofy calls up as he skates towards them. “Here, let me show ya’ a thing or two!” He smiles, reaching out to take Yakko’s hand.
Yakko’s eyes widen in surprise as he’s pulled away from Max and along with Goofy. Max can only look on with indignation, not wanting to yank his boyfriend back in case he falls.
“Hey! Dad! Cut it out!” He calls after them, speeding up as Goofy pulls Yakko across the ice.
“It’s alright, Maxie! He’s a natural.” Goofy smiles as he begins to spin, his hands caught in Yakko’s.
Yakko’s expression turns from nervous to excited as Goofy leads him in quick circles, letting out a laugh as they go.
Max only continues to call after them. “Dad, seriously, you’re going to fall!”
Goofy looks away from Yakko, over to Max. “Nonsense, Max! We got the hang of- WOAH!” Goofy’s skate hits a bump in the ice, sending him tumbling. He lets go of Yakko’s hand, and the other falls down onto the ice, landing on his tail and sliding a good few feet back.
Goofy continues tumbling, narrowly avoiding a few people before he reaches out for the handrail to catch himself. His hand only comes away with the string of lights strung to it, his body twisting and the coloured lights wrapping around him.
His fall ends with him hanging from the guardrail by the lights, doing his best to laugh it off.
“Hyuck, that’s gotta be one of my flashiest falls in a while,” he jokes, pointing to the now flickering lights.
Max, his eyes wide, skates over to Yakko’s side, leaning down to check him over.
“Yakko, are you okay? Are you hurt?” He asks, panic stricken as Yakko holds his head. It’s only a moment before he’s shaking the fall off but the worry stays on Max’s face.
“Yeah, I’m fine, Max, just a fall. It probably won’t be anything more than a little bruise on my tailbone,” he tells him, before his eyes move towards Goofy. “Is your dad alri-”
“Dad, are you serious? I told you that you needed to be careful! C’mon, Yakko.” He helps his boyfriend up off the ice, helping him over to the edge of the rink.
“I’m fine, Max, really,” he tries to reason, but Max continues off the rink trying not to look at his father as he untangles himself from the lights.
“Awe, c’mon, Maxie, it was just a-” He pauses as he falls out of the lights and lands on back. “A little accident. Promise,” he continues to say, but Max just rolls his eyes.
“Coming out here was an accident,” he says under his breath, Yakko looking up at him with a frown as they continue to walk back to the benches.
The car ride back to the house is quiet.
Max is sitting in the back with Yakko, staring out the window as he holds Yakko’s hand. Yakko looks between him and Goofy with a frown. Goofy only continues to drive, trying to smile at Yakko but clearly feeling the animosity from his son.
When they get back to the house, Goofy goes right into the kitchen to get started on Christmas dinner, giving his son time to cool off.
“We’ll show you a good ol’ fashioned Goof family dinner, Yakko! You’ll love it! Turkey with all the fixin's!”
“Yeah, along with all the disasters that make it a Goof specialty, I bet,” Max mutters under his breath, his mouth turned down in the same frown from the ice rink.
He’s only proven right as it gets to dinner time.
Goofy is armed with a fire extinguisher, smoke piling out of the oven and filling the room with a thick grey smoke.
“I got it kids, don’t you worry!” Goofy yells as he lets out another spray into the oven.
Max only rolls his eyes from his spot in the doorway as Yakko peeks out behind him, having been pushed behind the older boy when the fire alarms started to go off.
“God, I knew this was going to happen,” Max tells him as he looks towards the turkey that had been taken out of the oven. Blackened to a crisp. “We should have just ordered Chinese or something. That’s a little harder for you to mess up.”
His words are scathing, and Goofy can’t help but to look up. A frown on his face.
“Awe, c’mon, Maxie. I didn’t mean ta’-”
“Of course you didn’t mean to, but you still did! God, every Christmas is the same, it’s a wonder I even came home, let alone brought someone back with me! Can we not just have one normal Christmas? One with no injuries, no fires, no- no- No Goof-ups!” He gestures to the turkey. “One Christmas that you don’t ruin!?”
Goofy’s face is sad, but before he can reply, another voice pops up.
“What’s ruined?” Yakko asks, looking up at Max with a frown. “A turkey? Your stove? Who cares? Do you know how many turkeys I had at Christmas growing up? None, Max! Does that mean that my Christmas was ruined? It’s food, it doesn’t matter!” He moves, standing in front of Max, between him and his father.
“What matters is that we’re together. Or, at least, I thought that’s what mattered. You’ve been so busy convincing yourself that your dad is going to mess things up, that I feel like we’ve barely spent any time with each other. At the food bank you were distracted, at ice skating you were just plain upset, and now? Now you’re yelling at your dad over a turkey! Your dad, who has been trying so hard to make sure we have a good time, and looks like he would do absolutely anything for you! God, Max, do you even realize how lucky you are? How much I would give to have a dad that loves me half as much as your dad loves you? And you just throw it right back into his face! He’s not the one ruining Christmas, the only one doing that is you.”
Max flinches back at Yakko’s words, eyes wide for a moment as he thinks over the past two days. At how tense he’s been, trying to make sure that nothing bad happens, and about his reactions when things had gone wrong. And then, to how that must have looked to Yakko.
He must have looked like a spoiled brat.
His cheeks turn red as his eyebrows turn down, looking embarrassed and ashamed for what he’s done.
Slowly, his eyes turn up to Goofy, who takes a step forward.
“Now, now, I wouldn’t say that Maxie is ruining-”
“No, dad… I am.” Max cuts him off, his voice firm in his words as he looks away for a moment then back. “I am ruining things. I- I just get so caught up in my head, about wanting everything to go perfect but… it’s never going to be perfect. Not like that. Not because there’s nothing that goes wrong.” He lets out a sigh as his eyes go back down to Yakko. He takes his hands in his, holding them up to his chest.
“Yakko, I’m sorry that I’ve been acting like this. And that I ruined our first Christmas together,” he tells him, leaning down to press a kiss to his knuckles. Then he looks back up at his dad.
He releases Yakko’s hand, walking over to Goofy with a sad smile. “And I’m sorry that I’ve been acting like such a spoiled brat, dad. I guess I just… lost sight of what really matters..”
“Awe, shucks, Maxie.” Goofy smiles before opening his arms and pulling his son in for a hug. “We’re together, that’s all that matters to me.”
They stay like that for a moment, arms wrapped around one another in their disaster of a kitchen, before Yakko speaks again.
“Hey, if you pull back the skin the rest of the turkey is fine,” he tells them, leaning over the table and picking at the meal.
“Well, would’ya lookit that! Christmas is salvaged after all!” Goofy cheers as Max just sighs, looking over at his boyfriend with a smile.
“Yeah, I guess it is."
The next morning, after a feast of turkey, mashed potatoes and everything in between, Max and Goofy drive Yakko to the bus stop. Max had offered to bring him back home but Yakko wouldn’t let him drive three hours both ways on Christmas Eve just so that Yakko could get back a little faster. It’s only an hour difference by bus.
They get out of the car with him, Max pulling his bag out of the trunk before they walk him over to where the bus is loading.
Goofy smiles and immediately bundles him into a hug.
“It was real’ swell meetin’ ya’, Yakko!” He tells him, spinning him around once before he releases him back onto the ground.
“It was really nice meeting you too, Goofy,” he replies before he looks up and meets eyes with Max.
Goofy looks between the two of them and nods. “I’ll meet you in the car, Max.” He says before patting him on the back and making his way off.
Max offers a smile, reaching up to run a hand through his hair.
“Look, Yakko, I really am sorry that I made this Christmas such a disaster. I just got so nervous, and when I get nervous I get-”
“It’s alright, Max. Really. You apologised last night, and I know you mean it,” Yakko says before looking up with a smile. “And hey, all this really means is that you get to make it up to me next year, right?”
Max’s face brightens. “Wait, really?” He asks, and Yakko nods. “Really.” He tells him before he pushes himself up onto his toes to press a quick kiss against Max’s lips. As soon as they part, a Hyuck sounds from the others lips, immediately turning his cheeks pink while Yakko can only laugh and shake his head. “I’ll see you for New Years, Max,” he tells him before turning and loading into the bus, ready to get back to spend Christmas with his siblings.

h u n g r y...
Context: this drawing was part of a Halloween challenge on Discord to make one of the Warner brothers look scarier and/or creepier, so I chose the middle brother, based on an episode from the last season of the reboot where his belly is shown open as if come to life, looking like he is very hungry. The idea was to build on that by taking a more gloomy style with big fangs and everything kajshsjsk
I had already finished it for weeks but I couldn't decide whether to publish it before the 31st or last week, nor am I saying that it was the best when I did it, I wanted to get back to making creepy drawings 👁️👁️
.
ENJOY!!!

Not sure if you've already done one like this, but would you be up to writing a prompt about the first time Max sees Yakko having a (bad) panic attack and tries to help him through it?
Sure thing!
TRIGGER WARNING for panic attacks
*
Max knew Yakko had panic attacks. It wasn't like Yakko kept it secret; he was actually pretty open about it. Max had even seen him panic a few times.
But those had been minor panic attacks. There and gone in minutes.
This was worse. Yakko was crouched against the wall, tugging on his ears and gasping for breath. His eyes were squeezed shut, his every muscle was clenched and his fur bristled like he was expecting a threat.
Honestly, it made Max want to cry. It was awful seeing anyone like this, let alone his boyfriend.
There was no chance of making Yakko laugh to snap him out of it this time. He knew he should probably call someone, an adult, like his dad, Hello Nurse or Uncle Mickey, but...But he wanted to help. He wanted to try.
You can do this, Max told himself, kneeling in front of Yakko. You've got this. Just try. If it didn't work, he'd call for help.
"Yak?" He put his hands on Yakko's shoulders and winced when Yakko flinched. "Yakko, it's just me." As gently as he could, he pulled Yakko's hands off his ears. They were trembling.
Still going slowly, still being as gentle as possible, he placed his hand on Yakko's heart and put Yakko's hand on his own.
"Can you feel that?" he asked, taking an exaggerated deep breath. In and out, in and out. Finally, Yakko cracked an eye open and gave a jerky nod.
"Think you can try and match your breathing to mine?"
A pause. A few strangled gasps. Yakko opened both eyes and nodded.
Max smiled and continued with his exaggerated breathing. Slowly, awkwardly, Yakko tried to copy him.
"You got this," Max told him. "I'm right here, okay? I'm not going anywhere."

Autism headcanon: Runt (Animaniacs)
Tumblr media
Maybe this is cheating. Maybe this is less of a headcanon than it is canon in all but name, because Runt's voice and verbal tics are based on an explicitly autistic movie character: Dustin Hoffman's character Raymond Babbitt from Rain Man. This is probably why he and Rita were left out of the 2020 Animaniacs reboot, since it's not very PC to have a goofy cartoon dog caricature an autistic movie character's speech patterns.
Still, I've always liked Runt and I still do. Until I saw someone else point it out, it never occurred to me that his autistic-seeming mannerisms could be offensive. As a person on the spectrum myself, I've always found him relatable.
Here are the reasons why:
*He compulsively repeats sentences and words – especially his favorite word, "definitely."
*He often talks out loud to himself.
*His physical actions can be compulsive too. For example, when someone throws a ball, he has to chase it. Or when he sees a dangling tablecloth, he has to charge at it and tug it with his teeth. And almost every time he hears the word "cat," he goes into a wild, snarling rage, threatening to tear it to pieces... yet never once realizing that his best friend Rita is a cat.
*While he doesn't usually show the savant skills of his Rain Man counterpart, he does show a hint of them now and then. For example, when he points out that a rock pile contains 147 rocks, or when he instantly identifies a dish of fish as Mahi-Mahi.
*He's very literal-minded and doesn't understand sarcasm. This causes headaches for Rita, since he constantly misunderstands her sarcastic remarks.
*He tends to be oblivious to the world around him, and he often doesn't recognize danger or notice when a seemingly friendly person is behaving suspiciously. This is why Rita needs to look out for him. That said, he's not completely clueless, and rises to the occasion whenever Rita or someone else he cares about is threatened.
*His debut episode implies that he's never responded to normal training methods. Despite being an adult dog, he's still not housebroken and still chews things, which is why his owner abandoned him at the pound.
*Despite his sweet nature and devotion to Rita, he sometimes shows an innocent lack of empathy and obliviousness to Rita's discomfort. For example, when he shakes rain water onto her, or eats food that she was about to eat, or doesn't notice when a human is mistreating her as long as he's being treated well. This is all naïve and unintentional, however, and in the rare moments when he realizes he's upset Rita, he's always contrite.
*Sometimes in scary situations, when the obvious thing to do would be to spring into action, he freezes up instead. For example, the first time Rita fights the Nazi dog in "Puttin' on the Blitz," or when Ross Perot almost falls over the waterfall in "Icebreakers." That said, he always comes through and takes action when it matters most – namely whenever Rita is in danger.
*He seems to particularly like music and find it comforting, especially Rita's songs. He can even hear the word "cat" without going into a berserker rage as long as Rita sings it. But then, who wouldn't be soothed by her beautiful voice?

PINKY WINKY AND BRAINY WAINY MEET THEEEE PINKY AND THE BRAIN B)
I can’t decide if I like pinky winky and brainy wainy having the circles around the hearts on their tummys or if I like just the heart on it’s own? something about the simplicity of it makes me smile but the circle tummys def give off carebear vibes which is highkey want I wanted but gfjgknfd I think I’ll mostly be bouncing around using both since I think they’re both cute!
also brainy is taller than brain sorry I don’t make the rules. Though pretty sure P.W and Pinky are the same height

Trump won and the Republicans have a majority in the House and Senate.
I'm an American. AO3 has not made an official statement and I don't think they will, but I do think my likelihood of being imprisoned is high or at least nonzero if Yakkolicious and my real self blend too much. I read parts of Mandate for Leadership (aka Project 2025) a while back, and I know it is very anti-LGBTQ. I don't want to take any chances, and I have the idea of changing the ratings on all of my fics tagged as M/M and F/F and some others to Mature or Explicit to avoid problems, but I want to hear your opinions first. Everyone is welcome to chime in! Here are my fics and how they will be changed if people say I should do it:
Impetuous Fire (Three Caballeros) will go from General Audiences to Explicit for intense slow burn and unambiguous same-sex crushing.
Huck's Secret Side (Jellystone) will go from General Audiences to Explicit for a same-sex kiss.
Petals for PJ (Goof Troop) will go from General Audiences to Explicit for a same-sex relationship between tween characters.
Music in the Mist (Papa Louie) will go from General Audiences to Explicit for a same-sex kiss.
Bicycle (Clone High) will go from General Audiences to Mature. It gets to be M because it's more about the concept of bisexuality than a same-sex relationship. Carl and Wally appear, but they're adults and there's no kissing.
The Apple of My Eye (Animaniacs) will go from General Audiences to Explicit for same-sex kissing done by a teenager.
Don't Go Chucking My Heart (Super Mario) will go from General Audiences to Mature. It gets to be M instead of E because it's crack, Luigi and Chuckya do not get to first base, and historians could argue these two were just good friends (/lh) while it's more unambiguous with the others.
The Ghost (Papa Louie) will go from General Audiences to Mature for Vincent suggesting a potential same-sex relationship between Maggie and Prudence. It will be M instead of E because Maggie quickly shuts this down and Prudence isn't physically present.
Dumped (Clone High) includes Carl and Wally and JFK outright states he's bisexual (well, a bicycle, but same thing in his mind), but since it's already rated Mature for legitimate reasons, its rating will remain unchanged. None of my other fics include same-sex relationships and no trans characters actually state they're trans, so my other fics will keep their ratings no matter what.
TAGS AND AUTHOR'S NOTES WILL BE ADDED TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THE ORIGINAL RATINGS OF THE AFFECTED STORIES BEFORE TRUMP'S VICTORY. With that out of the way...

The Obituary
Tumblr media
"Graveyard at Night" by Rennett Stowe, Modifications: Resized to 3000x1055 pixels is licensed under CC BY 2.0.
Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Family Fandom: Animaniacs Central Relationship: Yakko, Dot, & Wakko Warner Wordcount: 2,612 words Summary: Yakko knew something was off about today, and he was right. Today, a certain "special friend" of the Warners, one Yakko didn't like to think about, made his way into the morning paper, forcing Yakko to confront his regrets with how he dealt with the situation. With Dot and Wakko's love and support, can Yakko realize that one mistake, no matter how severe, does not determine his worth as a person? Warnings: This story discusses death and uncomfortable implications of "Chairman of the Bored," a segment of Animaniacs 1993. Rating: T. Not suitable for younger audiences.
AO3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/56754184
This is probably the single most angsty fic I've written. Lately I've been struggling to continue Animaniacs (I actually haven't seen the full series yet), but Chairman of the Bored is my single least favorite segment, mostly because of Pip Pumphandle, the special friend the Warners have in that episode. If you haven't seen Chairman of the Bored yet... brace yourself. It's something, to say the least. I wrote this fic to give myself some closure so I can get back to watching the show. I hope you enjoy this!
There was something off about today. Yakko didn’t know what it was, but he could just tell something was off. Everything seemed normal in Burbank today: the morning sky was a peaceful light blue, the sun shone just as brightly as it always did, the birds sang happily, and the Warner Bros. staff were just as busy as ever. Surely anyone else would’ve said this was a normal day. If the day seemed so normal though, then why did Yakko feel like something strange was going to happen?
Yakko jumped out of the tower and grabbed the morning newspaper. Yakko liked to stay informed, and his way of doing that was reading newspapers. Maybe it was a little old-fashioned, but he liked the way the papers felt in his hands, and seeing the words in print made them easier for him to take in. Yakko smiled at his unread paper before jumping back up to the water tower and opening the door. He saw Wakko and Dot sitting at the kitchen table. Wakko was busy scarfing down a copious number of grapes, while Dot adjusted the cute little yellow flower in her ears: normal sibling stuff. Yakko closed the door behind him and grinned at the paper.
“Morning paper!” Yakko exclaimed in a singsong voice.
“Yeah yeah,” Dot said, “you got your newspaper.”
“Sis, it’s important to keep up with world events and the news,” Yakko explained, “it keeps ya smart, and knowledge is power.”
“But it’s so depressing!” Wakko whined.
“Yeah, sometimes,” Yakko replied, “but sometimes there’s something sweet in here! Or something really satisfying.”
“Satisfying.” As Yakko said that, he felt his stomach drop. Why? It was just a word. What was his body trying to tell him? Should he not have said that? Was something satisfying going to happen? Was something unsatisfying going to happen? There were so many things that it could be that it just left Yakko confused and worried. This day was shaping up to be anything but normal, and not in the “having fun with his siblings” kind of way.
Yakko sighed and opened the newspaper. As he flipped through the black-and-white pages, he saw the usual stuff: political news, the weather, sports coverage, comics with art styles that screamed that they’ve been going for a while, and the daily crossword puzzle, Yakko’s favorite. Yakko took a moment to examine the crossword and its clues for a moment, his tail wagging as he did so. Dot looked over at Yakko, saw his tail wagging, and giggled.
“Aw, does Yakko love his crosswords?” Dot asked.
Yakko promptly grabbed his tail and only let go when he was certain it had stopped wagging, not saying a word to Dot. Then, he resumed looking through the newspaper. Eventually, Yakko saw the obituaries. Obituaries, though not as gloomy as the political news, were still quite depressing. Usually, Yakko would skim through the obituaries with a frown before moving onto something else, just so he could have the knowledge, and that’s what he tried to do today. Yakko looked at the obituaries and saw if there was anything interesting. At first, everything seemed normal: a seventy-eight-year-old man who died of a heart attack, a ninety-year-old woman who passed peacefully in her sleep, a forty-two-year-old father who died of cancer. Yakko didn’t know any of these people, but they seemed like fine people who were very loved, and he felt sorry for their loved ones. This is why the obituaries were so gloomy: it was always the better people who ended up on those pages. Sometimes someone who was a bit more morally dubious ended up on the pages, but it wasn’t too common.
As Yakko read through the obituaries, he saw something unusually interesting. A sixty-three-year-old man was hit by a bus. His eyes bulged, alerting Wakko and Dot.
“What did you find, Yakko?” Dot asked.
“This is the most interesting obituary I’ve read in a while,” Yakko began, “this old guy got hit by a bus!”
“Whoa!” Wakko said.
“Is there anything else?” Dot asked.
“Let me see,” Yakko replied.
Yakko began to read the obituary in more detail.
“He was hit by a bus on July 15th,” he began, “he was known for his rich life experiences and his strong desire for human connection. Family members remember his stories about his many meetings with celebrities fondly for how they aided their sleep. In his spare time, he could be found socializing at parties and bonding with people over cheese balls.”
The Warners’ faces sunk. Now, Yakko knew why today felt so off. Yakko read the title of the obituary. It read “Pumphandle, Francis ‘Pip.’” He looked at the photograph next to the obituary, and there was Pip’s face. The same droopy eyelids, slightly wrinkled face, and bald spot on the top of his head as there was when the Warners first had the misfortune of meeting him. Wakko and Dot leaned over to read the newspaper, and they saw Pip’s photograph as well.
“Pip died?!” Wakko asked.
“Looks like it,” Yakko answered.
“He was so young!” Dot cried, “well, actually, not really, but still.”
“Whoever wrote this sounds like they couldn’t come up with a lot of nice things to say about him,” Wakko said.
“Yeah, I think you’re right, Wakko,” Yakko replied, “seriously, who would actually put that he ‘bonds with people over cheese balls’ in an obituary unless you had nothing really nice to say about him but don’t want to be mean? That’s like saying a cult leader had great people skills!”
The Warners smiled and laughed at Yakko’s joke and how ridiculous the obituary was. However, after a moment, Yakko’s smile faded into a frown and his laughter died. He looked away from his siblings as they hooted and hollered, Dot occasionally cackling like a witch on helium. Wakko and Dot didn’t seem to notice that Yakko stopped laughing, and when Yakko noticed that, he sighed. He handed the newspaper to Dot, who took it without hesitation, and sat crisscross on the sofa.
Yakko had a lot of feelings about the day they met Pip. To say that day was a good one for him and his siblings would be the worst lie ever told. Pip would not stop talking about the time he met Bob Barker, and he would do anything to finish his story. When the Warners tried to leave, Pip was on the bus they were on. When they got home, Pip was inside the water tower. The Warners got no sleep that night thanks to Pip. Pip even decided he would take part in their bedtime routine at the same time as the Warners. Why Pip thought that was a good idea is a mystery that Yakko will never know the answer to. What Yakko did know was that Pip decided to sit in the bathtub with him and Wakko, and when it was time for bed, Pip had claimed Wakko’s bed before Wakko could, forcing the brothers to share Yakko’s. The Warners didn’t do anything to Pip other than make sarcastic jokes at his expense: he wasn’t outright hostile to them in the way a lot of unscrupulous figures they met were. Even then, Pip was so determined to tell his story that he didn’t seem to care that the Warners didn’t like him. Pip eventually left, but the silence he left was so deafening that the Warners chased him down, begging for another story: they didn’t find him, much to Yakko’s relief looking back.
It was only after Pip had been gone for a few days that Yakko let what he did to him and his siblings sink in. Pip had basically stalked him and his siblings, got in the bath with him and Wakko, and stole Wakko’s bed all for a story that ended in Bob Barker eating a bologna and cheese ball sandwich. Yakko was horrified that he let this happen. The Warners didn’t have any trusted adults in their lives. The closest was Dr. Scratchansniff, but he could be a killjoy sometimes. Yakko wouldn’t dare tell Scratchansniff about Pip anyways: it would only tell him that he was a failure of an older brother. Without any trusted adults, Yakko was often seen as the guardian of the Warners. He didn’t like to be seen as a father figure, just a cool older brother, and Wakko and Dot helped to take care of him too some days, but as the oldest of the Warners, he felt it was his job to make sure the chaos that he and his siblings got into wasn’t too much for them. This was absolutely too much. By not hitting Pip with a mallet or crushing him with an anvil when he had the chance, Yakko put not only himself, but also his siblings in danger. Most days, Yakko tried not to think about it, but now, Pip was relevant again. He was gone, but he only recently died, meaning that Yakko had to think about Pip and their fateful meeting once more. He hated thinking about it. It was a cruel reminder that something needed to be done, but nothing was done. For Yakko, it made him feel like the worst person on the planet.
It was only when Dot realized she was holding the newspaper that she realized that Yakko moved. She stopped laughing and looked around the tower before seeing Yakko on the couch. She elbowed Wakko to get him to stop laughing, and he too looked at Yakko.
“What’s wrong, Yakko?” Wakko asked.
“Why’d you move?” Dot added.
“I’m thinking about when we met Pip,” Yakko said, “how he wouldn’t stop shaking our hands… we traded each other off… we tried to run away from him but he followed us home… he… he got in the bath with me and Wakko! He stole Wakko’s bed! And I did nothing about it!”
Wakko and Dot’s eyes switched focus between each other and Yakko as he ranted. Yakko’s eyes filled with tears, and his fists were clenched in balls of rage. Why did he let that happen? Why did he put his siblings in so much danger? How could he sleep at night? Yakko got up, stormed to his room, and slammed the door behind him. Wakko and Dot’s eyes shrunk when they heard the slam. They exchanged glances, but those glances were all they needed to know that they knew what they needed to do. They jumped out of their chairs and ran to Yakko’s room. They knocked incessantly, Wakko with both of his fists.
“Yakko, open the door!” Wakko cried.
“We’ll bust down your door if we have to,” Dot began, “and then we’ll replace it, because we love ya!”
Dot and Wakko only stopped knocking when they heard Yakko’s footsteps. Yakko opened the door. He looked a lot more tired than he did before he ran off. His eyelids drooped, as did his slightly reddened face. His frown looked plastered on, and it caused his entire face to sag. Wakko and Dot both gave Yakko their best puppy eyes.
“Can we come in?” Dot asked.
“Sure,” Yakko said, “why not.”
Yakko walked back into his room, Dot and Wakko not far behind. Yakko plopped onto his bed, grabbed his pillow, put it against his face, and began to scream into it. Wakko sat next to Yakko and patted his back gently. Dot stood up with her arms crossed.
“Jeez, Yakko, you’re a mess,” she said.
“Dot!” Wakko glared at his little sister.
“OK, OK, maybe that was a little mean,” Dot said, “I’m sorry, Yakko. It’s just… I’ve never seen you this upset before.”
Yakko lifted his head from the pillow and sniffled.
“I hate myself,” Yakko said.
“Don’t hate yourself, Yakko!” Wakko replied, “we’re not mad at you.”
“You should be,” Yakko began, “I’m supposed to be looking out for you guys. Of course, we’re all supposed to look out for one another, it’s what good siblings do, but… I shouldn’t have let him so close to us. I understand he wasn’t exactly a jerk in the same way a lot of the people we meet are, but there’s a point that shouldn’t be crossed, and Pip crossed that point and we did nothing about it. I did nothing about it…”
Dot put her hand on Yakko’s shoulder. He looked at her and sniffled.
“Yakko,” Dot explained, “we’re not mad at you. That was a long time ago. None of us knew what to do with Pip. He was just so… strange, you know?”
“Yeah,” Yakko replied.
“You know, I was mad at you in the moment when you swapped our hands out and made me listen to Pip,” Dot said, “but I don’t think I would’ve done anything differently than you, especially since I swapped myself out for Wakko.”
“Yeah, you did do that,” Wakko replied, “but I probably would’ve swapped myself for one of you two if I had to talk to him first. After eating all those cheese balls, that is.”
Dot, Wakko, and Yakko chuckled, Yakko wiping a tear from his eyes with his finger.
“I just… I just wish things went a little differently that day,” Yakko said.
“Pip drove us crazy, Yakko,” Dot replied, “when he finally left us alone, we wanted to hear more from him! For some reason!”
“Oh yeah, definitely,” Yakko agreed, “but either way, we’ve got each other now, and Pip… well, considering what happened that one time we were in Sweden, I don’t think we’ll be seeing him again anytime soon.”
Wakko and Dot hugged Yakko as tightly as they could. Yakko smiled at each of them for a moment before wrapping his arms around them as well and closing his eyes. The Warners hugged each other for ten minutes straight until they decided they had enough.
“I think I’ve had enough news for one day,” Yakko said.
“Me too,” Wakko added, “all that thinking made me hungry.”
“But you just had a ton of grapes!” Dot replied.
“I know! I’m hungrier now!” Wakko explained.
“I’m a bit, uh, too shaken, right now, to uh, make breakfast or anything like that,” Yakko began, “so why don’t we get dressed up and go out for waffles or something?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah!” Wakko answered.
“Sounds like a plan to me!” Dot added.
Wakko and Dot ran out of Yakko’s room, and Yakko beamed. He couldn’t change the past. He couldn’t change his feelings. If Yakko could make it so he and his siblings never met Pip Pumphandle, he’d do it in a heartbeat. However, that wasn’t the way the world worked. Life was full of experiences, some fun and others not so much. All that Yakko could do was be the best older brother he could be. He felt he wasn’t perfect by any means, but even after what had happened with Pip, Wakko and Dot still loved him dearly, and that was enough for him. Whether Yakko deserved forgiveness or not was something he wasn’t sure if he would ever know, but if Wakko and Dot felt he did, then that meant the world. Pip was gone now, but Yakko, Wakko, and Dot were still here, together, on the Warner Bros. movie lot, in the water tower, just the three of them. Now, they could enjoy some waffles together, and hopefully, Yakko could move on from the day he and his siblings had the misfortune of meeting Pip. It wouldn’t be easy, but with the two best younger siblings he could ask for by his side, Yakko knew that he had people to lean on.
