Why are guys who play video games so mean?

I’ve been playing video games my whole life, ever since I was in elementary school system-linking three tvs with my cousins in their own house. I have some fond memories of this. I started making not so fond memories of this when I got into high school and made my own account. The name was “angelgirl15” thanks to a nic name my dad gave me. I started noticing some funny things but didn’t really pay it much thought. Things like my own teammates bumping into me on purpose on Halo, guys messaging me online, and some specific trash talk brought my way. I chalked it up to the fact that I wasn’t the best player, no big deal. Then, it became a big deal. I was playing infected on MW3 one day, and two of MY teammates managed to corner me so I couldn’t get out, and started doing that stupid crouchy thing and hitting me with the knife. As in they were virtually raping me. I changed my name after that so it didn’t include the word “girl”, and the harassment not only mostly went away, it entirely went away. These days, I made the mistake of including the word “girl” once again on my ps4 account. Still it’s happening. Mostly on Rocket League. It ranges from a person on my own team following me around the ENTIRE game bumping me so I can’t even play, to a guy shit-talking me, singling me out, when I was literally the only person on our team to make a shot (you sir can suck my fat fucking dick. It probably gets more action than yours anyway.) My point is, just be nice to people. It's embarrassing to me to have to explain to my boyfriend when we're playing together why certain things happen, like the scandalas messages, being singled out, and even being harassed when he's never had to deal with any of it.
