So, I decided to post these particular pictures of the triathletes finishing the cycling segment of the race and transitioning to the running segment because, for someone who is pretty new to this, I was pretty impressed with how they get off their bikes and don't stop moving! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Starting with the second photo (cause the first is me) we have @aliciakayetri . She was the first female to cross the finish line. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I posted the @andy_potts fall because whether you're a professional athlete or not, there is something to be said about someone who falls, gets back up again and finishes the race with a smile. Quite the metaphor for life don't you think? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If I am not mistaken , in the next picture we have @tc_reid , @benkanute , and @ambroselive . If I am mistaken, feel free to correct me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And the last pictures are at the finish line. Finally done, ready to hydrate and wind down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, although these are the only pictures im posting, there were so many people there that ran a great race, and most importantly, finished. With that, you are all winners and I congratulate you all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #puertorico #goodtimes #progressnotperfection #sportsphotography #photography #ironman #ironmantri #ironmantriathlon #athlete #athletes #espn #taylorreid #benkanute #paulambrose #aliciakayetri #andypotts #triathlon #triathlete #swimming #cycling #running (at San Juan, Puerto Rico)

Why Do Cats Chirp? All About Cat Chirping

If you were to tell one of your non-cat-owning friends that you overheard your cat chirping, he might look at you quizzically. After all, we all know that birds chirp and cats meow, right? But as anyone who’s lived with a feline knows, cats have a deep well of weird and kooky sounds that they use to express different feelings and desires — and cat chirping (or cat chatter, cat chattering) is definitely an ability hardwired into cats’ oratorial repertoires.
youtube
Why do cats chirp? And what exactly does cat chirping sound like?
You’re most likely to witness cat chirping when your kitty is standing guard at the window, staring out at a pesky bunch of birds or critters. The curious noise that comes out of your cat could be described as a high-octane version of a goat’s bleat. It often also has a few of those weird, rhythmic clicks mixed into it for good effect. As you’ve probably guessed at this point, cat chirping usually seems to occur as part of a feline’s esteemed hunting tactics.
youtube
What are the origins of cat chirping?
It’s been suggested that the origins of cat chirping come from kittenhood. One theory claims that cat chirping is a way for a mother to corral her clowder of kittens to follow her. It’s also said that cat chirping can be used in return by a kitten as an ear-catching way to get the mom cat’s attention.
Fittingly, cat chirping is a beguiling — and, let’s be honest, pretty darn hilarious — mix of excitement and frustration. So, think of it like the whines of the proverbial kid in a candy store trying to convince a parent to stump up for the sugary stuff.
youtube
Is cat chirping supposed to mimic birds?
Cat chirping definitely has a similarity to the sounds that birds make when they’re gleefully trilling away. But it isn’t meant to mimic the sound of a feline’s feathered foes. How do we know this? Because cats will also happily chirp away at squirrels and other potential meals. Sometimes cats will bring the chirping behavior into the homestead. You may hear it during play sessions with cat toys.
youtube
Okay, so why do cats chirp then?
Digging deeper, it seems that an element of frustration is key to understanding why and when cat chirping occurs. Out in the wild, a cat would spot, stalk and hunt his prey. But indoor cats are obviously scuppered by glass windows. The longer the feline stares at a bird she cannot put the moves on, the more the cat chirping increase.
Marilyn Krieger, a certified cat behavior consultant known as The Cat Coach and author of Naughty No More! suggests that cat chirping is “reflexive.” She adds, “[Cats] might chatter in anticipation of capturing the birds or maybe they’re frustrated because they can’t reach them through windows. Another theory is that cats chatter because they have a surge of adrenaline through their systems when they see potential prey.”

How should you react when your cat chirps?
So, how should you react when your cat chirps? Well, first of all, don’t worry: There’s nothing medically wrong with her. If she’s an indoor feline perched at the window engaging in some enthusiastic chirping, the dignified course of action is to obviously join in with her excitement, while also sympathizing with her frustration. Yep, chirp along with your cat like you’re in some sort of feline karaoke session.

I don't do many workout classes but when I do, I do them with megastars. Today I run and rowed with #andypotts. You know, he won over 45 #triathlons, including a few #Nyctri. He literally said "we run together". "Someone" seriously kicked my butt but the class was amazing and exhausting, which is awesome. You know my pace wasn't his pace!! @orangetheorynyc had a special #powerworkout as the event was organized by @powerbar to show us their new products they're lunching in April. The studio is amazing and it's quite an interesting class. @CoachLeeNYC was right on top of us, not letting us rest a bit, which was great! Great way to follow up yesterday's intervals, with MORE intervals. I am DONE. HELP Thanks @DirtyOldSneaker for the invite!!! 👏😄 (at Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea)

Athletes have now completed preliminary events all over the world to qualify for their shot at being crowned the IRONMAN world champion! The World’s toughest endurance athletes gather in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, to compete in the IRONMAN World Championships.
Beginning in 1978, the IRONMAN World Championships occurs annually in Hawaii. The original course combined three athletic events already featured on the Hawaiian island: the 2.4-mile Roughwater Swim, the 115-mile Around-Oahu Bike Race and the 26.2-mile Honolulu Marathon. The bike portion has since shortened to 112 miles — resulting in the 140.6-grueling miles these world-class athletes experience now. In 1980, they moved the race from Oahu to the barren lava lands of Kona on the Big Island creating a hot, hard and challenging event.
LifeProof athlete, Andy Potts, qualified for his 7th IRONMAN World Championships and looks to improve on his personal-best finish of 4th place last year.

Why Do Cats Like Boxes?
The post Why Do Cats Like Boxes? by Angie Bailey appeared first on Catster. Copying over entire articles infringes on copyright laws. You may not be aware of it, but all of these articles were assigned, contracted and paid for, so they aren't considered public domain. Cats and boxes: never has there been a better match since peanut butter and jelly. They just go together, right? Anyone who knows the feline mind can attest to the magnetic power of the box, no matter the shape or size. Although we’re quite aware of this love affair, what’s the reason for it? Why do cats like boxes?
First, why do cats like boxes?
Why do cats like boxes so much? Photography ©Aksenovko | iStock / Getty Images Plus.
There are a couple of answers to the question, “Why do cats like boxes?” First off, seeking out confined spaces is instinctual behavior in cats. In the wild, it allows them to hide and stalk prey. We don’t often get to see cats exhibit this behavior in the great outdoors, but they still look for ways to replicate this behavior inside our homes. This is where the box comes in.
When we introduce empty boxes to our domesticated cats, they first carefully investigate the object. They’re completely familiar with every square inch of their domain, so when something new enters, they’re obviously curious. Once their curiosity is satisfied, the instinct kicks in and they hop inside.
Some also note that the security of a box could mimic the snuggly warmth a kitten feels while cuddling her mother and littermates. As a result, it’s possible, that while box-sitting, a cat’s body releases endorphins that cause pleasure and reduce stress.
What kinds of boxes do cats like?
youtube
The next question you might have after, “Why do cats like boxes,” is — “What types of boxes do cats like? Do cats like boxes of any size, shape or form, or do they prefer some boxes over others?”
Although it would seem that cats would only like boxes that provide complete concealment, they enjoy time spent in boxes of any size, and even in representations of boxes. Remember this experiment that showed cats plopping themselves inside a circle created with tape on the floor? The theory behind its success is that cats still felt secure and enclosed, even though the “box” had no sides — or even a bottom. It wasn’t even a box!
Why do cats like boxes made out of cardboard especially? Cardboard boxes are the most popular and readily available types of boxes that cats like. Some experts say that cardboard might effectively retain the cat’s body heat, creating a cozy environment.
In a Dutch study, researchers gave one group of shelter cats empty boxes to use as retreats. Those cats adapted to their environment and appeared more relaxed than the control group who did not have the boxes. Science!
Are boxes just for domesticated cats?
youtube
When wondering, “Why do cats like boxes?” you might also wonder, “Do their big-cat cousins like tigers like boxes, too?” Domesticated cats aren’t the only ones who enjoy a nice box. Big cats are also fans, which makes complete sense, right? The only difference is — bigger cats, bigger boxes!
What types of boxes should you / should you not give your cat?
Make sure recycled boxes are safe for cats. Photography by kmsh/Thinkstock.
Another thing to consider when thinking, “Why do cats like boxes?” is what kind of boxes you offer to your cat. Giving your cat boxes is a great way to provide an enriching environment. Cat trees with high-up boxes and elevated hidey holes are feline favorites, while some cats prefer hideaways closer to the ground. Experiment to see what your cat prefers.
If you offer recycled boxes to kitty, keep her safety in mind by removing all hazards like staples, tape, handles, string and loose pieces — they could be choking hazards or, if ingested, could cause (sometimes fatal) damage to her digestive tract. Also, never shut your cat inside a box and leave here there. Cats don’t like to feel trapped and their anxiety produces feelings of insecurity — the opposite feeling they seek from the box.
So, go ahead and provide enrichment by offering your cat boxes of all shapes and sizes. Even stick some tape to the floor and see what happens! Just make sure your tiny tiger is safe while she enjoys her “secret” retreat.
Tell us: Why do you think cats like boxes? What sorts of boxes do your cats like best?
