tonight, i made posole. tired AF, perpetually out of time, and always with a bajillion things i should be doing but today is the last day of muertos. so i made posole. we used to have big celebrations for dia de los muertos with food and drink and friends, but this year is just the [fill in EVERY expletive] ever and who comes out on a tuesday night? and when do i have time to plan and throw a party (that is not for my corg's birthday)?? but it's important to remember, to celebrate, and do something on this day...so i made posole.  my mom sent the good chile ristras from new mexico, made the time to simmer everything as long as possible for the best flavor. my dad used to make posole all the time, for special occasions, for the super bowl, sometimes we'd have it for thanksgiving dinners when we had those, and just when you needed it. my dad made the BEST posole, hands down, in the world. this is indisputable, true fact. i'll never be able to make it as delicious, but he gave me his recipe, taught me how to make it, and damned if i can't at least try (though i didn't have a corona after every other step)...so i made posole.  i don't always do well with death, dead things, cemeteries... i never really have, but when i got older the more i learned about the history and tradition of muertos: the importance of the celebration, and how it changes death into something a little less scary and makes everything a bit easier and focuses on celebrating everything you love and cherish about someone. it is joyful. and even if we don't have the time for a full-blown bash, and it's still not the easiest to think about loved ones that are gone, but taking the time to make something that has been loved in my family for years, that brings back many good memories, and happens to be delicious is a great way to have a low-key celebration that makes the depth and breadth of loss a little easier to bear.  and so, i made posole.💙 #DiaDeLosMuertos #Familia #VivaMexico #Comida #TLDR #ICouldSayABunch #AboutTradition #AndCulture #OrWhatever #ButReallyIJustMissYou #AndYou #AndYouToo #MissYou #LoveYou #MissYouEveryday #CookingLove #TeamFATLIFE #LikeMyDaddyTaughtMe #AndMyGramMadeMe

I walked by the other day and saw this and wondered what in the world it was, so I asked and a kind fellow told me it was a "HATE WALL". He said that every year they put up a wall with hurtful things that people have said and pull it down, signifying the breaking down of hateful words and bullies. May I just say, that things like this upset me because with or without this wall those words are still going to be said, hell if you have to put it up every year then that's a signal that there is no progress at all! The problem is way more deep rooted than that. I mean there is an innate morality problem with the human race. Perhaps it's the way our parents raised us, or the people we coexist with, or the conscious choice we make every day to be horrible, or perhaps the nonchalance of the society we live in, the celebration of no consequences in the words and actions we exhibit day by day, the lesson thought to the younger generation that any of this is okay. Mind you HUMAN RACE! The world you live in and call home, will continue in a downward spiral as long as you constantly choose to use a bandaid to treat a cancer patient. YES! I went there, the world is sick with cancer and it's spreading like wild fire. Our insides (human) is turning against our outsides and eventually if not treated, it will kill us. And just chemo rips the body apart to build it back up again, I'm afraid that's what the world needs. Those aggressive cells need to be shut down and even if we die trying at least we went down fighting for a better world. Ok I got a little too passionate there, but the point remains that, the world will always have hateful words as long as we aren't willing to acknowledge the fact that the problem starts from us and not the next person who said a hateful word. After all they must have picked it up form somewhere it didn't just miraculously combust out of thin air.
