'Enjoy it despite its flaws' is one thing, but Mass Effect somehow invented its own category: 'simultaneously one of the most flawed and the most well-crafted sci-fi stories I've ever experienced'. These games are incredible. They’re the worst. All the women are sexualized. All the women have deeply flawed and complex personalities without being either demonized or romanticized. The first available f/f ship seems to be written along the guidelines of 'what would a straight man find hot'. As the games go on, they effortlessly include multiple same sex romance options given just as much care and development as the the opposite sex ones. You can play as a xenophobic murderhobo asshole. You can play as someone genuinely caring but also harsh, who inspires growth and co-operation wherever you go but who makes hard choices when you have to. You can kill civilians and punch reporters and commit genocide. You can stop a generational war and mediate peace and save several species from extinction. The robots are stereotypically evil cannon fodder. The robots are deeply complex with a tragic history. Your team mates are assholes with xenophobic opinions or justifications for police brutality and genocide, or they just want excuses to Do Murder. You team mates are deeply flawed and can be urged to grow alongside you. The most important aliens are all humanoids. There are plant aliens and jellyfish aliens and insect aliens and elephant aliens and aliens who can’t share an atmosphere with us. You have to drive around countless identically boring planets with little to show for it. You get to discover hidden secrets and civilisations millions of years old and live through some of the most emotionally harrowing scenes in storytelling history. I am going absolutely insane about it.

Hey hey!

The Mass Effect Community is now up and running! 🎉

I made the community as a general catch-all for Mass Effect! So anyone who makes art, or fanfics, or memes or writes headcanons, or yells about their favourite character or literally anything feel free to join!

The community is also open to ALL Mass Effect games and not just the Trilogy.

The community is also not excluding any ships (the romance kind not the Normandy kind) or characters. Because I didn't want to gatekeep anyone or their content and wanted this community to be open to everyone 💖

At the moment while communities are in beta there is a population cap of 500 but we can increase that as needed and I believe the population cap will be phased out once communities goes out of beta.

I'm not a 100% sure how this works but we'll see as we go.

Seeing everyone else pre design their white rooks and be all like “I can’t wait to create them in the game !”

Meanwhile me, a negro, who’s been suffering through Bioware’s character creation and having to give my black Shepard’s, Ryder’s and Inquisitors those ugly ass braids or fuck ass bobs because those are the only hairstyles that look semi decent and having all their skin tones be the same one because all the other skin tones were way too light or way too ashy looking, will wait until the game comes out because I don’t have high hopes. Like Davrin looks beautiful and I love the fact they took the time to design a beautifully designed black character but after dealing with so many fuck ass bobs, un moisturized afros, boneless braids and those ugly ass generic fades, I think I’ll wait until the game comes out to picture what my rook will look like in my head because I don’t want to take the time and energy to design and draw a rook who’s a total baddie and then I go and create them in the game and then history repeats itself and I have limited options and I have to wait and save for a pc so I can play with mods to have a decent looking character while the white players get to have beautiful looking characters right out the box

Ашла`Мира нар Тейр - девушка, только-только покинувшая Мигрирующий Флот и отправившаяся в Паломничество.

Не смотря на то, что к Паломничеству кварианцев готовят относительно незадолго до его начала, Ашла заинтересовалась им ещё в детстве, когда его прошёл её названный брат. Ведь вернувшись, он рассказал ей столько, сколько она не мечтала и услышать: о далёких звёздах, новых расах, что на их корабле были нечастыми посетителями, - причём это ещё мягко сказано - о всём том, чего у них попросту не было. И почти всё, о чём он рассказывал, заставляло Ашлу слушать с разинутым ртом. Она всегда славилась своими любознательностью и любопытством, из-за чего часто попадала в отнюдь неблагоприятные ситуации. Ашла обладала и до сих пор имеет довольно рассеянный характер: она любознательна, но при всём при этом так же и невнимательна из-за своей мечтательности, а порой и гиперактивности. Так же Ашла очень доверчива по меркам других кварианцев, что глядя на неё, просто качали головой. Это ей приносит много проблем, как, собственно, и окружающим её, из-за чего отец с братом даже невольно задумывались о том, чтобы оттянуть срок её Паломничества как можно дальше: придумать какую нибудь причину продержать её на корабле дольше, привить хотя бы какую-то осторожность и понимание того, что всем подряд лучше не доверять, но, к сожалению или к счастью, благодаря разговору с другом семьи, они решили не вмешиваться во что-то подобное. В конце концов, Паломничество на то и нужно: чтобы самому изучить реалии мира, познакомиться с ним и его обитателями как можно ближе, а так же проявить себя и свою истинную суть... Но что-то обоим членам её семьи подсказывало, что Паломничество Ашлы будет длиться... дольше обычного.

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not (also idc either way) but I would love a sequel for Andromeda. One where the Kett don't have a plot (maybe a few pockets to fight or something), but that's just focused on exploration and settlement. Figuring out how to use Remnant tech to go beyond Heleus. The Kett are busy regrouping after the Archon and start to get worried about the expansion and that can lead into a third game. I just think that would be neat.

The more time I sink into andromeda, the more I suspect the biggest reason it ultimately failed commercially was because of the massive tonal shift I've already mentioned, and how there was probably a pretty big chunk of original trilogy players who simply no longer fit as a demographic, while the game failed to reach the people who might’ve enjoyed it.

The original trilogy, much as I love it, feels a little bit like a wishfulfillment power fantasy for a very obvious demographic. Almost all women are overtly sexy in design and the f/f relationship in the first game seems to be written along the guidelines of 'what would a straight man find hot'; you play as someone cool and confident and powerful, the most specialest human ever, and maybe you aren’t always respected but YOU and the NARRATIVE always know you're right and you get to be rude to and sometimes punch/murder people who disagree with you so it’s fine. The game then salvages all this by means of genuinely well-written characters and arcs, really cool sci-fi tech and lore, a fantastic story, and meaningful and hard-hitting choices and consequences (which also allow and often encourage you to steer away from that exact macho ideal).

Enter andromeda. Instead of being a super powerful supersoldier from the start, you're the kid of one. You barely know what you're doing. Everyone doubts you, including yourself. You don’t get the assuredness of knowing you are Right and Cool that you have as Shepard. You don’t demand that same respect. And I'm sure there are a lot of people who hated that.
