Las normas religiosas prohibían a las mujeres actuar en las iglesias católicas, lo que contribuyó al aumento de los castrati, sopranos masculinos que fueron castrados antes del inicio de la pubertad. Entre los castrati más célebres, Pasqualini es coronado en este retrato por el dios Apolo, que había salido victorioso en un concurso musical con el sátiro Marsias (en el fondo, derrotado y atado a un árbol con su gaita a su lado). Pasqualini se unió al coro de la Capilla Sixtina en 1630, y a partir de 1632 fue protagonista de muchas óperas producidas en el Palazzo Barberini, para las que Sacchi diseñó decorados.
