I'm cackling, because it looks so funny. Well, people from the Anderfels are called Anders, and, well, one of them refused to say his name and ended up with Anders as his name.
But still it looks like my brain, which is hyperfixated on this blonde cat-loving romantic mage.

Headcanon:
Post-mage rebellion, "Anders" becomes a common name for the first generation of babies born to free mages. In Skyhold, for example, there will be multiple Anderses walking and toddling around, to the point that it becomes confusing. Someone shouts, "Anders, stop that!" and four kids turn their heads.
#dragon age#dragon age ii#anders#dragon age: inquisition#never mind how confusing it is for people from the anderfels#encountering all of these fereleden and orlesian children named after their country#probably also a passel named after hawke or merrill#maybe some anoras if she freed the circles#it grinds vivienne's gears to no end seeing people proudly announce their adorable baby anderses#and is surreal to varric#also little mages and the children of mages playing champion and crew

i consider the anderfels codex entry to be an anders cameo. like yeah it IS a land of shocking extremes.
#i think the codex was in origins but idc. it's him.#remember in dai when the crestwood mayor looked weirdly like anders and made a choice to try and#save people that ended up killing innocents and everyone was really mad. and the anderfels codex was in his house.#wby.

i wonder if the avvar accept converts
i just keep thinking about varric telling hawke about visiting stone bear hold and all about how they view spirits and possession, and how that could be a safe space for them maybe?? and if the inquisitor impresses the hold they can become kin to them so maybe there is a possibility for actual conversion and welcoming of outsiders in that respect too?
and then i get to thinking about how anders, despite everything, clearly still has faith in the maker and andraste but what if he learned about avvar spirituality and basically went “oh shit that’s way better” similarly to jewish converts with christian religious trauma????? like anders definitely does believe but how much of what he actually believes in is through the indoctrination he desperately needs to better unlearn to accept himself and justice anyway? and i’m absolutely not suggesting they just waltz into an avvar hold and say they live there now, i am genuinely thinking of it from a conversion perspective (and let’s be honest, also a bit from a jewish perspective) but i think this could possibly work?
and i know at least my hawke would jump at the opportunity because the avvar belief systems would make way more sense/vibe way better with her, but even with a hawke that doesn’t necessarily apply to i just feel like anders could really thrive with the avvar and i don’t know i just like to imagine my silly little scenarios that involve anders being (at least relatively) happy
#anders#handers#avvar#dragon age#i know in nwasatwog i have them living in the anderfels but it also references many times they probably won't stay forever so#i also fucking adore the avvar

NOT ANOTHER ORIGIN FOR DUNCANS PARENTS IN THE TOOLSET?
#WHAT THE FUCK IS AN ORTHLING??#orlais being spelled 'orlay' here is making me lose my mind#w. wait. were. were orlesians called orthlings... surely not...#actually by context from his codex background that should say his mother was from the anderfels not an orthling#they must have swapped it bc orthling was too close to orlesian? can you imagine if anders was called Orthling#edit: okay yeah i checked the orth/orthland/orthlings are definitely an old name for the anderfels and ander people#bioware employees have referred to it as an old name i cant find anything where its mentioned in world#so idk if its just a name from in development or if it was ever canonised as a historic name

remember when Anders was a Warden? ha ha. good times. yeah, but seriously why would Inquisition show us an epilogue of an exiled, post DA2 Anders living destitute in some cave...when they could have put him back with the Wardens?
You're telling me he wouldn't reconsider going back to them after the events at Adamant? After Justice learns what Corypheus did to the Wardens? Not Vengeance but JUSTICE. What a juicy piece of heartbreak, a necessary closure, for Anders to seek out the remaining Wardens...ugh, back in the ANDERFELS of all places. A bitter homecoming for a man who barely had a place to call home his whole life, unwelcome among mages who should show him the most kindness, brought with somber acceptance back into the fraternity of duty that he abandoned. A broken and limping faction itself.
Anders was lucky to have survived the Architect and Amaranthine. He was lucky to have survived his own righteousness in Kirkwall. Lucky to have survived the bloody conflict he sparked, that ate southern Thedas. Lucky, to have survived Corypheus' false calling and the whispering misery of the Nightmare.
Luck or Fate?
If he's still kicking around after the Breach is sealed and the Dread Wolf has risen, Anders has to wonder if there ought to be a purpose to his continued existence. If there's no such thing as destiny, then all that matters is choice. Every choice Anders has made has cost him dearly. He's nothing if not consistent! But rebels grow old, if they're lucky. They grow up, they grow into greater and more profound perspectives. The Anders who once said he'd basically rather die than go back to the Wardens, the same man who lived through the brutal widespread consequences of blowing up the Chantry, could absolutely make a different choice.
I have to believe some part of him still remembers what it was like to defend Amaranthine, to be willing to stand between the innocent and the darkness. To choose to serve, and not to run.
idk. . .of all the cameos and faction agents we could see in Veilguard, to find Anders and Justice among the Wardens would be a phenomenal and welcome plot twist.

Genlock being pronounced "jenlock" by most everyone we meet is wrong, and actually, Anders is pronouncing it correctly with his hard G pronunciation because the words are from the Anderfels (where Anders Senior originated before immigrating to Ferelden.)
Anders is correct because he learned it from his father, in this essay I shall-

Wynne being named after Langwynne in Bannorn and Anders from the Anderfells has me emotional in a certain sort of way because these mages are taken away so young, given a name of a place they can never remember, a home they never had and its almost cruel mocking that their identity is taken from them and then given back as their most identifiable feature.

One bit of obscure Dragon Age lore a day until Dragon Age: The Veilguard is released
The Drasca were an order of warriors that formed in the ancient Anderfels and played a part in the Ander independence movement. They fought against Tevinter during reconquest that began in -535 Ancient but were brutally hunted down. Last members retreated into the Blasted Hills that are currently on the border with Orlais. Rumours say the Drasca survived and continued to resist foreign forces occupying the Anderfels, such as the Orlesian Empire that encroached into the Ander territory following the start of Second Blight.
Source: Per description of Helm of the Drasca (DAI Unique helmet)
Fun fact: The helmet worn by Solas in the Winter Palace during Wicked Eyes Wicked Heart questline shares the model with Helm of the Drasca

If you can't see a pathway forward for Anders and Fenris' relationship, that's either a preference or a fault of imagination and empathy. There's nothing morally superior or inferior about not shipping Fenders. It is simply a relationship within a story.
My interpretation? It's a complicated relationship between two volatile and marginalized people whose trauma was used to reflect the core conflict within the narrative of Dragon Age 2. Therefore I find any advocacy for stagnation rather than growth and change between them disheartening. It's my belief that they deserved better than being reduced to a pro-mage/anti-mage standoff in-game and reduced to their worst instincts within wider online discussions.
They also have a lot in common. Did you know, for example, that 'Anders' is not Anders' name? It's the name given to him because the Templars took him from the Anderfels. 'Fenris' is also not Fenris' name. It's the name given to him by Danarius. They choose to keep these names as a reclamation or reckoning.
Anders and Fenris are rather drastic, contrary, and intense characters who value freedom above all else, and maybe they never bridge the divide between them. However, saying they couldn't feels like it does them both an injustice and drains the hope from their story. If the two characters hurt most by systemic oppression can't properly empathize with each other eventually what hope is there for widespread change and growth?

WELCOME BACK ISTA TABRIS
i missed drawing my warden so much holy shit
#the headband is a gift from leliana#it's enchanted so you can wear any hat/ head covering no matter the hairstyle because she understands how difficult slayage can be in court#leliana also helps them with their court outfits. and zevran ensures they always have hidden daggers and poisons 'just in case'#tabby hangs around ferelden for a wee bit to help rebuild the alienage and deal with the aftermath of the blight#but ends up leaving for the anderfels to a) find a cure to the taint and b) EVERYONE IN HUMAN POLITICS IS TERRIBLE. ALL OF THEM.#like they have the respect of the landsmeet and queen anora because they're the fucking hero of fucking ferelden. but they're still an elf-#-and a woman so it only gets them so far. and alistair renounced all claims to the throne and even tho i feel like there r still some king-#-theirin truthers in the landsmeet. he's alistair he doesn't care about kingly-political nonsense he's a grey warden first and foremost.#ista abandons the strategic talking aspects of politics after they hear about anders and kirkwall. but more so after they hear about the-#-inquisition disbanding because of conflicts within the inner circle#hehehehe ok i'm done rambling#dragon age posting#dragon age#origins#ista tabris#my art#my ocs#sketch#art

Likelihood of companions showing up in Veilguard: my thoughts
So, I was thinking about Veilguard and who I want to come back, so here’s my take on who I think is coming back!
Warden: lol no bitch, we’re never seeing them again. That would require giving them a voice and personality. Likelihood is we get another letter.
Alistair: We’re pretty far from Ferelden, if you made him king I could see him getting a mention but not marching his ass up to Tevinter/Rivain/Antiva/the Anderfels. Possibly another letter. If you kept him a warden, he’s either dead or could possibly show up in the Anderfels? I could see whoever got left in the fade tying in with the Veil Jumper plotline, maybe.
Morrigan: Possibly? Theres a possibility if she drank from the well she’s now bound to Solas because of him killing Mythal. I could see the Veil fuckery doing some weird shit to Kieran though.
Leliana: If you made her Divine, definitely. If you didn’t, I wouldn’t say so. She had such a big role in Inquisition, I don’t see her playing a huge role here.
Zevran: We’re in Antiva, we better see the boy! He is canonically with a romanced Warden in Inquisition, but I could see him taking a break from that to take care of Antivan things for a bit.
Wynne: canonically dead. Sad for her. RIP mage granny.
Sten: He’s the Arishok now, I see him tying into the Qunari plotline.
Oghren: please god no.
Shale: I hope so, but since she was DLC I would doubt it.
Loghain: He’s dead babe. Either you killed him in Origins or I’m assuming like nobody saved him in the Fade in Inquisition, and see what I said about the Veil Jumpers in Alistair’s section.
The Awakening Squad (minus Anders/Justice): doing this as a collective cause I’m not typing all that out. Probably not. Might see a couple of them if we go to Weisshaupt while we’re in the Anderfels.
Hawke: If you left them in the fade, again, could show up with the Veil Jumpers. Since there is a possibility they’re dead, I could see them just sending a “hey I’m fine in Kirkwall” message if they’re alive.
Anders: maybe, maybe not. This game seems like it’ll have less emphasis on the Mage/Templar conflict, but we haven’t seen him since 2, so who knows.
Fenris: We’re in Tevinter, I’m hoping he shows up! Let us help him kill slavers please.
Merrill: Seeing how Solas’s agents use the eluvian network, I could see her showing up again. Possibly with the Veil Jumpers
Isabella: I don’t think so. If she shows up, might be part of the Lords of Fortune plotline.
Sebastian: No. Might get referenced, but he is DLC.
Aveline: I don’t think so either. I think she’s too busy keeping things together in Kirkwall. Also ACAB includes Aveline.
Carver/Bethany: If you made them wardens, possibly show up in the Anderfels? But seeing how customizable their appearances are, I doubt it.
Blackwall/Rainier: Again, possibly in the Anderfels. Or elsewhere if he didn’t get recruited into the wardens.
Bull: I hope so, I wanna see the chargers for at least one mission. But since he can be dead if you kept him loyal to the Qun, don’t have high hopes.
Cassandra: if you made her divine, sure. I could also see her leading remnants of the inquisition if she isn’t divine.
Dorian: We’re in Tevinter. If Varric or Harding don’t mention they have a magister friend that can help, I’m going to be very disappointed.
Vivienne: Again, if she’s divine, yes. If she’s not, probably a letter writing cameo.
Cole: I could see him having a very cool plotline with the Veil breaking down and him either being a spirit with human elements or a human with spirit elements.
Sera: I could see the Friends of Red Jenny playing a role, if not her specifically.
Bonus Advisors:
Josephine: Maybe. Could see her helping with Inquisition remnants like Cassandra.
Cullen: No, cause Greg Ellis is an asshole.

i wonder if anders’ family had, like, beef with the wardens. moving all the way from the anderfels to ferelden is kind of insane as a random farmer but it’s very noticeably going from the biggest stronghold of warden power in thedas to the nation they were exiled from for centuries
