Thinking about this NONSENSE biology again my limited knowlege of anatomy means this is probably "Ax's Notes" version of andalite biology.

for the fanfic trope meme: snowed in, college au, oh no there's only one bed
Snowed in: HELL YES ABSOLUTELY. One of my favorite things about Andalite biology is that they’re apparently very temperature-sensitive, as seen in The Polar Bear Book. Ax was lucky he crashed in California. I’ve definitely thought of writing an Ax/Marco where Ax has business in New York in the winter and tries to tough it out, but eventually gets trapped with Marco in his New York apartment.
College AU: I probably wouldn’t write this one, just because I feel like my fanfiction is already kinda boring without taking away the fantastical elements. That said, it’s totally my genre and if there’s anything I like more than thinking way too hard about how Andalite society works, it’s coming up with characters’ class schedules (no really). So 50/50 chance I’d ever write a college AU. If I did, it would probably still be about Andalites because My Brand. Maybe I’d dive even deeper into Mertil and Gafinilan’s Academy days, oh boy.
Oh No, There’s Only One Bed: I feel like this only works if the ship is awkward, and Ax/Marco are awkward in the wrong way to make this work for me. (Also Andalites don’t need beds.) HOWEVER. I could definitely write a very awkward, emotionally fraught “Marco has a crush on Jake” adolescent baby fic, which is not what I think this trope is for, exactly. Literally every other Animorphs ship would be boring with this one, I think. Like “oh no, I have to share a bed with a bird; oh no, an Andalite will stand next to the bed; oh no, I have to share a bed with my best friend; oh no, Rachel murdered me because I touched her with my foot.”

!Scoop POST FINALE!
thanks for the feedback y'all. It was super good. I wanna work on Ax's earth scoop next but I'll prob take a break for sec since this was exhausting lol. Above is the thumbnail with color pallet and andalites for scale
mood boards
And the scoop art with callouts
from what i can tell, andalites have more plants than furnature.
i thought way to much about the toilet situation. I went with something ....vague

Yeah, Swedish probably
As a fan community we’ve assumed Noorlin is the Dad and Forlay is the Mom. But it never actually says that in canon. What if we’ve had it backwards this whole time? Also, apparently Estrid is a real name in Sweden. Andalites are probably swedish.

After the war ended and everything died down a little, the letters started rolling in. College acceptance letters officially, but really college we’re-begging-you-please-come-to-our-institution-we-will-literally-pay-you letters. It was funny, because most of them had barely struggled through their sophomore year of high school. Even Ax and Tobias got them, mostly addressed to either Jake or Rachel’s house, but sometimes delivered by bewildered but determined couriers wandering through the woods outside Cassie’s farm, waving envelopes and confidently shouting Tobias’ name, less confidently garbling Ax’s full name.
Marco was the first to accept. University of Miami. Full ride, housing, books, meals, everything. Marco pretends that he’s majoring in The 2 B’s (Beach volleyball and Babe watching), but really you can find him most nights and weekends camped out in the advanced computer lab, running simulations and advancing z-space travel without the help of our Andalite emissaries.
Cassie went ahead and finished high school, though she used one of those new online programs. The attention of her peers was a little overwhelming for someone who’s used to repeating their name three times before the other person finally loses interest. For college, she chose a biology program close to home. The main focus is earth biology, but every time a new course pops up in xenobiology or the environmental impact of new species, she’s the first on the list.
Jake doesn’t know what to major in. He takes a lot of prerequisites for majors that he has no interest in. He learns a little of everything. He takes a lot of history classes, focuses on the mistakes made in other wars, but aggressively avoids new classes that pop up about earth’s most recent war, rapidly deleting every email and voicemail request to be a guest speaker. One semester he forgets to sign up for classes during his registration window. He could call the office and get added to the roster of any class he wants, but he doesn’t. To fill his time he signs up at a community college trade school under a fake name. He learns brick laying and plumbing and how to wire a house.
Rachel throws herself into her studies. She was always a good student, always liked to keep busy. She joins the college gymnastics team, but finds it boring compared to ... what she used to do. Every sorority wants her to pledge, and she dodges their members on campus. One day she dodges a little too hard, knocking into another student. The other girl hits the ground, but Rachel stays standing, her feet planted in a battle stance. She starts to apologize, offering a hand to help the girl up, but instead the girl hands her a stick. Rachel joins the lacrosse team later that week.
Tobias hangs around campus sometimes while Rachel’s there. He still can’t bring himself to morph human that one final time, so he makes sure not to stay on campus too long, knows all the good spots where a boy can turn back into a bird and fly away. He audits a lot of classes, unofficially. Large classes that he can walk into when they’ve already started, walk out of before they finish. Uses the computer lab to write Star Wars fanfiction, then deletes it when he leaves. One day he forgets to delete his work, and comes back the next week to find it printed out, pinned to the bulletin board with a note attached, someone inviting him to join their weekly Dungeons and Dragons game. He throws the whole thing in the recycling bin, but he’s already memorized the time and location.
Ax thinks it’s quaint that human colleges are offering to teach him something. He never really got over that Andalite superiority complex. He politely opens and reads each letter, considers each offer, and then throws them away. Until he recieves one particularly interesting letter. Ax didn’t know such places existed, though upon reflection he really should have. How would one come up with such an elegant and unparalleled creation as the cinnamon bun without such a place? Ax takes a temporary leave of absence from the Andalite military to attend Culinary School. The teachers praise him for his enthusiasm and inventiveness during class, and meet in the store room at the end of the day to share a bottle of wine and horrified renditions of The Oily Bagel Fiasco or The Tale of a Very Buttery Sponge. But he’s improving, really he is.
i want to write an animorphs post war college au (where everyone lived this time) but i cannot A) come up with a reason why any of them would even want to go to college at all or B) come up with even the smallest bit of plot or C) decide what anyone would be majoring in

I love this whole thread so much! I was definitely thinking of the family scoops on the homeworld being very open, since it's mentioned soooo many time about opens space this and claustrophobic that for andalites... which feels so counter-intuitive because I can even sleep without being in the corner of my bed against the wall surrounded by pillow with the door closed. I would live in a hole if I could lol. I love these drawings for Ax's scoop! I definitely think he gotta have his more covered since he's hiding and TV glowing in the night is kinda obvious too lol. I liked his collapsable roof idea so I want to do some separate designs for his earth scoop. Also it mentions it's against a hill or an incline in one of the books somewhere so I'm gonna incorporate that if I can.
Big SCOOP POST!
So it started with this sketch, it was gonna just remain here... and it was inspired by the description in the Breaking and Entering series of fanfics... but then I started thinking about it more and decided to go of the very sparse book references and make it look like the same universe as my fighter designs below we have a mood board of inspiration for the scoop and surrounding landscape.
These are my favorite ideas for the shape of the lodge with a description from the andalite chronicles (in hork-bajir chronicles they use a cloth, but i figure that has more to do with it not being on homeworld.) I like middle one best.
And I have color keys for different pallets I like for the homeworld. I'm going to do a final illustration with breakdowns next, once I choose.
Let me know what color palette you like best!
