lot of morons on this website don't understand the concept of resource allocation.
#i've had the cops return stuff stolen to me on a few different occasions#including a car#like just imagine you're in charge of a police department for one second#and you have limited resources#and you have people asking you to find their stolen iphones or bicycles or whatever#and they have little to no evidence to narrow down who the suspect might be#yeah you could probably redirect the entire police force to tracking down each individual phone#but the effort and costs associated with doing that is not remotely worth the effort#that is borderline a negligent use of resources#on the other hand if you have video footage of someone burning down a 30k vehicle#that was paid for with taxpayer money#seems like it's pretty reasonable to place higher on the ladder of priority#if you want police to do shit you need to give them more funding and more resources#more officers means they can do more work#if you disagree with me you're wrong and stupid as fuck#hanlon's razor and all that#also another big reason why cops don't do anything#is because in many jurisdictions they've been totally defanged#and sometimes there are explicitly laws that prevent them from doing anything about property crimes below a certain value#and even if they do go after the guy chances are a soft-on-crime DA will just let them go
