literally everything else - i don't really do open endings or sad endings! in the words of the great philosopher, skepta: "nah, that's not me."

i used to, but i haven't in ages! thank god for that.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

yes, although i have to say i've been moving away from pwp lately. i feel my best smut is written into longer fics where the sex serves a plot or characterisation purpose within the frame of the overarching narrative.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

yes, a RWRB/LS but i never finished it. ALTA is a veronica mars inspired tarlos fic which kind of feels like a crossover at times.

not to my knowledge :)

yes! Phonography (Lone Star) has been translated, as has Baby, Make Your Move (Lone Star) and Warm Whispers (Lone Star). I'm very grateful to the incredible people who have made these translations happen - you are so talented.

yes, many with @dustratcentral. I also wrote a chapter of a co-written fic with a whole bunch of incredible RWRB authors called never the same twice.

I do have one unpublished Tarlos ficlet that's kind of a Queen Charlotte inspired future fic that is the saddest thing I've ever written which is the result of @howtosingit saying "whatever you do, don't think about X" which of course meant that I did and I wrote it in a fever dream, cried then buried it in my gdocs.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't like to say never, but probably the SC paint & sip au

based on the comments I get - smut with feelings, banter/dialogue, characterisation

What are your writing weaknesses?

World building, pretty metaphors, I'm far too fond of run on sentences to the point where if I was beta reading my own writing there are SO MANY sentences that need to be cut down so that the reader can breathe.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

If it fits the character, I love it! I generally ask a native speaker to help me with translations for accuracy

I've gotten a few rude comments and one comment that accused me of internalized misogyny on a fic where a female character actually saved hundreds of people which was pretty funny. I just usually delete them.

Bleh I'm horrible at miscommunication! I also hate editing.

If it fits the characterization then sure! If I'm not fluent or can't have someone who is read through it then I just write in English.

Random toughts 911 Lone Star Edition.

Post-episode 4x01 I have decided to approach this season of LS with as much detachment fandom-wise as I can, meaning a "yes" to the pretty gifs and a "no" to most meta!post and fanfics of the hour. Because I remember too well how the last summer went for me and I don't really want a repeat. 

See, last summer, I watched the fourth and last season of Roswell New Mexico and I had an horrible time lol

It was really frustrating to watch how people treated Alex's absence and entire existence on and off screen. It was an eye-opening experience to realize how a character can be heavily misunderstood and mistreated if it doesn't serve the main protagonist or the main story in the way some people want. 

So, me being aware of this, I knew that Carlos' secret would have been accepted poorly. I don't particularly like the storyline because I find it unoriginal but, again, LS doesn't shine for his unpredictability (unless it about the most gross rescue of the week possible 🐸). In the show universe though, I can understand Carlos' actions e I don't have a problem justifying the reasoning who led two lost, unhappy, and scared kids to make that decision. We know Iris' troubles and we know Carlos' mindset in regards to the relationship with his parents. Every single one of his insecurities stem from the chasm that his coming out created with his parents, who loved him but didn't know how to treat their son's truth. It's not a situation who inspires the best decisions 🤷🏻‍♀️ 

I agree that it's hard to believe that Carlos kept this secret for so long but I can buy it, with a little effort on my part, because this is a character that doesn't talk about his problems unless it's inevitable. 

Now, with eight weeks before a possible wedding's date, it's inevitable. Before this, I can imagine Carlos wondering for a right moment to speak but never finding it, what with all that happened to T.K. and to them as a couple. And let's be real, in real life the more you put off a thing the more you end up not doing it at all. It's a very human thing. And this is the real problem with certain people treating Carlos like a cheater and paragoning him to Alex or to the poor parenting of Owen. 

For a side of the fandom Carlos is wrong and terribile the very moment he steps out of the line of the "perfect boyfriend" he has to be for T.K. The same people who justify every mistake of T.K., with his past and trauma and everything in between, don't allow the same courtesy to Carlos. Because everything has to be about T.K.: his storylines, the Tarlos ones, even Carlos'. G*d forbid, the attention shifts just for a minute to someone else's mess. 

Carlos has a moment of doubt after they get drugged? How unfair for T.K., how dare Carlos? Carlos made a rash decision and got married "in name only" when he was young and afraid and struggled to find the right moment to tell T. K? How awful, he's a cheater, he doesn't want to marry T.K., he's the worst. Carlos, the one who has been steady and present and never wavered in his commitment to T.K., even when T.K. ran and self-sabotaged at every turn for a long time. Do you see my problem with this kind of famdom's reasoning?

Even more 'cause I don't think T.K. has to let this go without telling how he feels, considering it's a huge secret to be faced with. But, at the end of the day, if he can make sense of things and understand that it's not a menace to him in any way, how people - who knows it's just another insane and useless road step to the tarlos' wedding - can't? I mean, it's not like we are talking about a romantic ex, it's a platonic relationship stranded in the past, it poses no real threat to T.K. 

It's a dumb storyline, but if it paves the way to a Carlos heavy string of episodes I'm gonna be happy. I've waited a long time to see him shine for himself and not only as half of Tarlos. Everything else it's going to fall in line and lead to the wedding and everyone will be good with Carlos again. Like with Alex in Roswell NM. Ah, the power of the ships…

Feeling so conflicted about the last scene of 911 LS last night.

First reaction was happy - I was glad to see that Owen took the step, went over, visited and told TK that he loved him. It felt like we were coming back to that father-son relationship that we all liked back in season 1.

But then the more I thought about it...I really think the only reason that Owen even thought about going over was because of his conversation with O'Brien, and watching that family grieve and hug.

Yes, it was a step in the right direction, but if the only time Owen reaches out to TK is because someone else plants the idea in his mind, that's not really being a good parent. And if the main inspiration to visit your son is to relieve your own guilt...then that's something that also needs to be worked on, a lot.

Anyways...random thoughts.

🔪 - what’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Mostly related to animals- weirdest recently would be “are zebras able to climb stairs” (yes, they have hard, pointed hooves they use to climb mountains) and can you ride a zebra (no their backs aren’t strong enough for heavy loads. If you meet a zebra, do NOT ask him for a ride!)

🐚- do you like or dislike surprises?

Strong dislike I’m sorry to say- I used to say I wouldn’t mind surprises but the job I have every day there is a surprise of oh so and so didn’t come to work do his job that no one showed you how to do or oh the manager who left a half hour ago wanted you to do this even though you don’t know how and no one still here knows how to do it lol- so now I would say I’m deathly afraid of surprises 🫣🫣

🦴- is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?

My writing is currently all 911 Lone Star - based, different moments form that inspire me when I’m writing about it- also I’m always soft for sweet father-son relationships and one of my favorite examples outside of LS is Stiles and Sheriff Stilinski from Teen Wolf.

9-1-1 Lone Star Season 3x05

How did everyone enjoy the episode last night? It had a lot of great moments and a couple not so great (cough Owen) but overall felt like a decent follower from last week’s episode.

My favorite moments:

1. Tarlos! We got the cutest domestic scene with them on the couch. TK scaring the living crap out of Carlos, trying to coax him back in bed, then staying with him listening to the creepy audio, falling asleep somehow listening to it...I would have had a nightmare if it were me, but hey, maybe Carlos being there was enough to scare them off haha. Loved the little arm grab too ;)

2. 126 back in action! “Charlie’s not losing her daddy tonight”. When Cap is on, he is on. He fits the Captain role so well and it was great to see the 126 back together and working so well as a team again. Top moment for sure!

3. Mateo!! He has grown up! Love seeing him be a bit more assertive, great character growth. 

4. Detective Carlos Reyes!! Love to see it, Carlos getting individual cop storylines. Him working with Detective Washington was a breath of fresh air. I feel like this is what everybody wanted...him to have his own storylines with Tarlos sprinkled in there to compliment. So so so good. I hope we get to see more of his character in the next episodes. 

5. And lastly Grace. She is the type of woman, wife, Christian I want to be through and through. It is inspiring how she takes thing strife while acknowledging her own pain. Such a good character. I see Grace and Carlos having an amazing friendship if the writers allow it. They are both so patient, emotionally grounded for their partners (and themselves), and just overall really strong people. 

Moving on to my least favorite moments....

1. OWEN. Why does he have to play the hero of everyone’s story?!?!?!? Just why. Why couldn’t Carlos take that win 100%. Yes, I’m happy to see him bring the child back to her parents in the hospital but seriously why did Owen have to do the rescue.

2. Judd’s reaction to Wyatt. I don’t know, maybe I’m just a bit sensitive but it kind of felt a bit gruff in my opinion. But it fit the character I guess. I just couldn’t imagine being the kid and getting that type of reaction from my potential father. I feel like it’ll work out, but I just wished Judd had been a bit more sensitive.

All in all, great episode. Kept the fire going while still giving us breathing room from episode 4. Thank you for making my Mondays exciting 911 LS!
