no, they were not "cowards", they were not any more cowards than people that wrote tos who didn't make spirk canon

they were simply people writing a show in the latter half of the 1990s, and writing a lesbian couple then is hardly the same as writing one now - or fifteen years after voyager concluded

would it have been amazing, brave, progressive, and very much in line with star trek's general message? of course. would it have helped an already struggling scifi show in late-90s america? highly doubtful

#this is not the first time i've got this sort of comment on a j7 post #and i do find them incredibly annoying #they just show how people consume media without understanding #the context it was created in #as if it had no impact #and yes sure i'd have loved canon j7 on voy too #but it just couldn't have happened #remember that the first - i believe - long-term lesbian relationship on tv #was still a couple of years out at the time #st stuff
