Here's a digital sketch dump of some pose/anatomy practices and some 2hu doodles, I think from now on if I don't have any big final piece to post, I'll just post sketches I liked that I did digitally (might also reblog some drawings of mine that I want more people to see, maybe idk).

Artist's Notes:

Ok so after the recent Hifuu fanart I did, I've been hoping to experiment more with how I draw faces, how I render, as well as how I stylize things. In some of the earlier sketches I did, I had an idea for a pose that I wanted to try drawing, so I took a ref pic of myself doing said pose (the leaning one btw) and then did a sketch over top of it just to get an idea for the shapes, negative space, and silhouette. After that, I wanted to do some simpler breakdowns of the shapes so I can get better at simplifying the body (these ended up being the bottom right sketches in the post). I also did some experimenting with how to push certain parts of said sketches to create a different body type (via liquify and then a more refined version based on that sketch), as well as figuring out what makes a pose feel natural and not stiff. This was also a bit of a foreshortening practice just so I can get more confident with it, and I ended up using the arms from the liquified version for the coloured Zanmu sketch I did since I liked them so much (dw I'll get to that).

The next thing I wanted to try and draw was Hisami, mainly because.... I am very bad at drawing her in my style. Last time I drew her I made her look really creepy and spindly, and it is my headcanon now that she can switch between a more human, and more creepy look whenever she wants. I'm liking where the face is going a lot, might have to refine a few things about it in the future, but it's cute (I also made the blush purple which I think is what I'm gonna do with her face from now on). I also like how her hair in the sketch turned out a lot, but the outfit..... not as much... Ever since I started changing my style to something less cartoony, I've had a hard time drawing her outfit in my style. Especially the flower veil thing she has on, which, I did try to find a way to draw, but I ended up deleting that sketch because I didn't like it. I'm also not a fan of using the colour purple, like, pure purple, magentas are fine, indigos are fine, but not strict purple. I also have a hard time with drawing all the little pattern details on her dress. I also need to find a way to draw the flower veil in a way that looks good because everytime I try it ends up just looking off (very similar to whenever I try to draw Zanmu's blue spears). I think the only solution to this problem is to do what I normally do and make my own version of the outfit, but with adjustments to suit my style while still trying to keep core elements from the original design intact (like I do with Zanmu and Keiki, and yes I am going to get to that Zanmu drawing just gimme a minute).

Ok next up is Keiki, my favourite Touhou character who I haven't drawn since the beginning of the year. Since my style has changed a lot, I wanted to just do a face sketch of her to get a hang of drawing her again, and I..... really really like how it turned out! When I drew her eyes, I realized that a good way of keeping faces too same facey can be via varying the sizes of their pupils, so that's an idea I'm gonna keep in mind from now on. I had a lot of fun with her hair, I initially was gonna do it like how it is in the official art, but I ended up not liking it, so now I'm gonna draw Keiki with wavy heir like this because it's fun and it looks nice. I also included my base sketch for Keiki's face since I was initially struggling with drawing her bandanna, and in the coloured sketch I added some more detail into her hair.

Now to finally talk about the sketches for Zanmu. Good lord was I having a tough time with her face. I also did this sketch before I figured out how I wanted to draw hair, so that's why the rendering on her hair is different (I did this soon after the Hisami sketch actually). Since I changed my art style a lot, I had to find a way to translate her face from my more cartoony style to my more detailed style, so while the face shape, nose shape and mouth was fine, I was really struggling with the eyes. I did get somewhere eventually though, and I am super happy with how it turned out. I wanted to lean more towards the androgynous side of the gender presentation spectrum, mainly because I think that makes sense for her character. Also made sure to include the silver hairs and some wrinkles just to bring some signs of her aging into her face because those are just staple features of how I draw Zanmu at this point lol. You will also notice that I gave her some scars on the right side of her face, and that's because I am a Zanmu-with-scars truther, I fucking love it whenever I see someone give Zanmu visible scars like that it just adds so much omg (I also tried to put a wolf bite mark on her arm in the full body drawing but idk if it reads well). While you can argue that her not having scars sells the idea of her being this "powerful, untouchable mastermind who is impossible to defeat," I'd say that instead of those scars representing times she got injured, they represent everyone who has failed to defeat her.

As I was drawing Zanmu's face, I referenced my sketch of to help with contrasting their features since I made Keiki's face more traditionally feminine. I also didn't mention this in my commentary on Keiki's face because I wanted to save it for here, but giving Zanmu scars also plays into the fact that she used to be human, wheras Keiki doesn't have any scars because she's a god who doesn't follow the rules of normal human biology. Plus I'm thinking about the two of them interacting again (return of Zan/Keik??? (I'm a multishipper btw) maybe???) so drawing their faces together will definitely help me in the future if I wanna draw them together (again, maybe as a ship? I've kinda been ironing out the kinks in their potential interactions (romantic and non-romantic) for a while now so idk maybe expect that in the future lol).

And now for the full body drawing, when I was doing the face sketch I did this little snippet of an outfit, had a vision, and the made it into a reality. I'll admit, part of me was worried that it would end up looking too much like Yuugi's outfits in the spinoffs and mangas, but I feel like I made enough changes to differentiate them. I tried to keep a few of the major details in Zanmu's design (i.e. the red tassles and yellow lining on her shirt) while putting a new spin on it. I also dialed up the scars to 11 since without them the whole thing kinda looked incomplete. Also, while I could say that the leaves on her kimono are "a nod to the fact that technically she should be a tengu because back then people belived that corrupt monks would turn into tengu but no Zanmu is an oni and they're maple leaves because...tengu...ahahahaha" what really ended up happening was that I looked up clothing patterns from Sengoku era Japan, liked the leaves the most because the red picked up on the red from the rest of her design and just ran with it. I also always had the idea to put Zanmu in men's clothing from Sengoku era Japan and while the accurate thing to do would be to put her in a Buddhist's clothes from that era.... from a character standpoint, I don't think Zanmu is pious enough to strictly wear the proper monk uniform, and also since she's basically the king of Hell, she would probably dress herself like royalty from that era. TBH, I probably could've been a bit more historically accurate, but again, this was mainly for conceptual purposes because I had a vision and I needed to see it through.

If I were to draw her in this sort of outfit again, I should probably try and use more references, although now that I look at it, if she were to wear it properly this would maybe, probably look a bit closer to a Kyūtai sugata (a very huge stretch, but it just kinda reminds me of that) just without the layers under and over the main piece of clothing (In the website that I searched up to try and compare the outfit in my sketch to, they name the outfit pieces but don't label them on the image, so I don't know 100% what everything is called) so I will definitely have to use that style of clothing as a reference going forward.

Also, I was kind of inspired by the ToTK design for Ganondorf since I have finished the game a while ago and I absolutely love what they did with his design (it's just so fucking cool omg) and I thought that sort of look would look good on Zanmu, so yeah got some inspo from that.

And those were all the notes for each of the sketches, I'm motivated to draw rn but kinda art blocked, so doing these little coloured sketches helps a lot.

JJ with all brown hair since while coloring I forgot that I wanted to still give him his blue hair but more grown out (to kinda show the passage of time for 11! JJ to imply that he retired for a bit like 11 did after TATM/before the Snowmen.) I like how both versions turned out although idk which I like more lol. also i used an online Sherman's Gallifreyan translator for the first pic; it's "Jameson Jackson" in gallifreyan!

also yes i have been thinking about this specifically since i accidentally used Doctor Who to spot that Schneep was studying time travel equations back in 2019 and I went insane xD

Here's a bunch of ideas and headcanons in no particular order because I cannot scrape together enough sense after seeing that official art of him to make this coherent:

Leaks suggested he had a bunch of scarring on his arms and if you look closely at his hands in the official art, he has some on his hands and juuuust under some of the bandages. Imagine kissing his scars... Auuuu-

I said it before and I'll say it again he's a big ol' puppy. Big scruffy scary dog puppy man. The way he's so attentive with you and concerned for your health, safety, and wellbeing at all times. I actually don't think he'd be the biggest on PDA. However- That doesn't stop what happens when he's protective. You'd be in a crowd and in order to shield you from the hustle and bustle, he'd pull you in close with an arm wrapped around you.

He totally rubs his cheek against yours like a fuckin cat as like an affection thing but also sometimes to mess with you because it's scratchy.

Definitely has a Chair. It's His Chair. By the fireplace. But he, of course, let's you sit in it whenever he isn't sitting there. And if he is? Pats his leg to you can come sit in his lap. You two often take naps there, cuddled up with one another.

Those buttons of his are fighting for their LIVES but you aren't complaining. He jolts a little before smirking at you when you slip a hand between said buttons to feel the exposed skin there as well as plenty of what the shirt does cover.

Pix and I like to think that he's naturally warm. Whether this is because he is a fire pathstrider is up to interpretation.

Also please tell me he's another guy who just straight says run them hands his hands are his weapon-

(I wonder if we're getting a character in HSR who just straight up throws hands like "time for some fisticuffs". Because I didn't even think about it, but Stelle in the new trailer didn't have her bat or lance she was gonna like Stellaron punch someone??? UNDERTALE AU INFO DUMP!!

Fineline is an undertale au that has been living in me and Bea's (writer for fineline and other stuff who is my irl bestie but doesnt have tumblr cuz shes a nerd) brain for the past 4 years and now it’s finally getting life.

Basically found family bad sanses with a lot of self inserts, random ocs I make them interact with, and a healthy dose of shipping.

Their physical designs aren’t too far from accepted fanon but I think their personalities are quite different.

Nightmare is a bit more chill and has massive gossipy wine aunt vibes.

Dust is just a tad stupid and the most extroverted of the group.

Horror is the resident chef and is a big softie with a scary face and no concept of societal norms.

Killer is the most different because he’s the calm, dead-inside always bored one, trying and failing to get the others to chill out.

I don't know much about you as a person, but from what I can gather you've had a long journey with art, but still have the motivation to continue even when its rough. I'm sure you didn't start out making masterpieces, so if its not too much trouble, do you have any advice for a 16 year old artist losing motivation? i feel like im stagnating right now and its awful

Idk man, all I can say is, draw watchu want without the care who's gonna see it or what they gonna say , commit to new ideas and care less about pleasing everyone, because I know that way too well, I started learning by drawing animals, flowers and nature, "you should draw something else", switches to furries " No you must do human portraits", draws humans *no one fuckin cares*, and I felt miserable drawing what I didn't want all the damn time just trying to please everyone and be liked, hell, I still do that sometimes cuz I'm a dumbass. When in reality, when you do your own thing is when you're the happiest, this internet bullshit? Yeah don't trust the likes and favs, people like what they find relatable, no one really knows how much time you've spent on your drawing or how much you love it, when a 5 min doodle you did could do more than a painting that took 2 whole days to complete just to be scrapped in a new speedy record, paint what you love for yourself and you only.

Don't be shy to learn new things, I have tons of stuff I don't post here cuz I know people wouldn't care about it, but here for this post, have this that I practiced when I felt too depressed to think of anything good and wanted to step back from the MD artstyle

You'll see, you'll thrive when you draw what you want, and get yourself a drawing buddy! That way you'll stop focusing on the internet and more on each other, and each other's improvement. Tbh I struggled with that one. Since everyone I had were not into art irl, I somehow managed to find someone after 10 years of drawing alone. I honestly wanted more people to join in and make an improvement circle, but unfortunately that never happened.

I found myself twice as productive now than ever, even though I'm not active here as much I am still drawing and making things, ofc giving you more comics! And other fun things in the future I hope.

If you're struggling to draw something just do it, man commit, i was uncomfortable drawing men and male characters for years, I've wasted so many years being "too uncomfortable" and draw a naked person like yeesh who fucking cares, it's for studying.

And ofc if you feel like you're not improving at all please, please experiment with your artstyle and try something new, please refresh your mind, I was stuck for years doing the same thing over and over, same colors, same 2px brush, drawing like a machine same shit over and over, I felt so stuck and lost, but also afraid to do something new, idk why, I guess I never felt good enough or deserving of it. I also didn't go to art school, I am NOT a professional, nor will i ever be in my opinion. Hell, me feeling like I'll never be good enough left me afraid to try and apply for art school, they were asking for sculptures, different mediums all that scary stuff and I was like, I don't.. know.. how to do those things... I can't build a portfolio in less than 3 months?!?! I don't even know how to use half of what they're asking for!!

In reality at the end of the day, art is what you make of it and no one can stop you, search for inspirations and don't be afraid to try, yes you'll fail fist 2 or 10 or hell even 100 times, but you'll come back with more knowledge than ever.

When I first did this, I kept adding random headcanons instead of summarizing it.. I think I'll make some hc posts for these characters soon

Day 1 — A character you hc as a regressor:

Twilight Sparkle

Of course I have to start off with someone from my favorite piece of media to ever exist. Twilight Sparkle is a very busy pony, lot's of tasks to do every day. One with her being a princess, and two her need to organize every task and make countless lists.

She really really deserves a break from all those things, and regressing would be a nice way for her to end the day when she can.

Day 2 — A character you hc as a caregiver:

Kankri Vantas

This one seems kind of unlikely I know. I feel like realistically yes he might be kind of bad at being a caregiver. But I'd love him as one nonetheless. This is more of a comfort thing because I really like his character.

I feel like he's the most likely to warm up to this kind of thing out of all the dancestors. He would make a decent cg, trying to make sure your needs are always met.

Day 3 — A ship you hc as regressor x caregiver:

Fluttercord (Fluttershy x Discord)

They're just so sweet and I know Discord would do everything he can to make her feel safe. (While also making it fun and chaotic when Fluttershy feels up to it) I can see how much Discord cares for Fluttershy. I can't see him being judgemental of her regression or needs while regressed.

Day 4 — A character you hc as a sitter:

Aphmau

Aphmau would be an AMAZING sitter. She's so kind and understanding of all her friends, she knows everyone, and she loves to take care of kids already. She's perfect for the job, and I know she would have so much fun being a sitter for the people she loves.

Especially considering that one episode of MyStreet (season 3) where Zane turns into a baby because of a potion. She was so happy to take care of him and I know she would be for all of her friends.

Day 5 — A character you hc as a flip:

Scraps

I don't know why this is one of the characters I got so drawn to when first playing dw, but I definitely see her as a flip. She's really good with kids already, especially in terms of keeping them entertained with crafts and activities. I think she really enjoys taking care of Goob when he's regressed, as well as regressing with him.

As much as she enjoys arts and crafts already, I think when regressed she loves it even more. If that's even possible. I think Goob would help take care of her too when he can. But I also really like the idea of Tisha and Poppy acting as cgs for her

Day 6 — An "unfitting" character (A villian, someone from horror, etc) that you hc as a regressor:

Newton

He's really just a kid who wants attention and spotlight. He wants a place in the world (or Planet) I think regression would really help him after all of the doom he unleashed on the world. I really like that he's a redeemed villian, it leaves opportunity for a lot.

Like yeah that guy DID kind of unleash three evil titans on an unsuspecting planet, sucking all the life and creativity out of it so he can feel some sense of power and attention. But all he needed was a good coping mechanism. Who knew!

Day 7 — An "unfitting" character (A villian, someone from horror, etc) that you hc as a caregiver:

Edolon Vryche

I think he would be really good at finding time for you, and making sure you feel comfortable and safe during that time. He'd make sure that it goes uninterrupted and peace is held.

Day 8 — An obscure character that you hc as a regressor:

Animal

i'll make you a few sketches based on your prompt, number of which will depend on how specific it is. ill send you them and you can request as many changes as youd like.

once we've decided on a final sketch and rough color palette, i'll proceed to rendering, and send you a heavily watermarked mostly-finished version for final edits. side note, i have had people take advantage of me to get multiple works for the price of one by making me redo things entirely based on issues that should have been pointed out in sketch stages, so i ask you try to be as descriptive as possible during sketching and keep final edit requests to around like 2-5 things, but that's not a hard line as i know those people are rare. as long as it's clear you're trying to work with me and not run me in circles, we'll be good dw.

once we're happy with the final draft, i'll finish up the remaining details and remove watermarks. if you're going through paypal, this is the point where i'll ask for payment, but obv if you're going through ko-fi that'll have already happened.

Annibirthday Comment Fest

It's our comm annibirthday on Monday - the be_compromised livejournal was created 6th May (first post 7th May) 2012. We are 12! Inspired by the Zero Comment Challenge and a chat on our comm discord, we'd like to gift comments to creative works with zero (or few) comments, hopefully spreading some joy, appreciation, and encouragement in our corner of fandom.

How Does Comment Fest Work?

From the 6 to 31 May, to comment on creative works with zero, or only a few, comments. (We're not setting a limit on this but maybe 12 or less in keeping with the theme if you're the kind of person who likes a guide.) We'd like to focus on clintasha works, or works featuring Clint and/or Natasha to support our corner of fandom. One way of doing this is to search works on AO3 for clintasha and sort by comments, but we're all ears for other ideas. We appreciate recs of any works featuring Clint and/or Natasha which will boost those comments! You can leave recs in a comment to the DW post, on the comm discord recs channel, or link to a rec on tumblr and we'll reblog on the comm tumblr.

Of course if you're inspired please feel free to comment on works that could use more comments in any fandom, and to keep going after May! Those just won't count towards...

Comments - YESSS, BEEN 20 MINUTES AND HERE YOU ARE 😭😭 so, this is mostly world building, BUT, laios stuff too dw. You are a mind reader lmao, I was JUST thinking about a modern au sometime today! This ended up being about the main 4 on accident, but I tried to make it mostly about Laios 😭

Modern!Laios

So, the golden kingdom is sort of how the modern world would be like, everyone is in harmony, no deaths (except old age depending on species race??), everyone has phones, internet, no more dungeons

So modern, but with a touch of fantasy, kinda like Onwards! (Such a good movie go watch it rn)

And jobs are more modern now, like Laios is a sous chef in a well known underground restaurant that's owned by a dwarf named Senshi! Chilchuck is a lockpick, then Marcille is a teacher! Falin is doing some out of state studying, wanting to keep the art of magic alive, Shuro is a fencing teacher, and Nimari does construction!

But let's focus on the main 4 😋

Laios and Chilchuck met when Laios locked himself out of his shared house with Falin several times cause he left it at work, in his car (had to pick that too cause the doors locked on him) and so that developed a small friendship (not that Chilchuck would call it that) between the two

Marcille knew Falin while they were studying magic together (like in the anime but modern) and so Marcille met Laios through her

Before Falin went away to study abroad Marcille and Laios held a going away party for her and Laios invited Chilchuck, where he may Marcille and Falin (Nimari and Shuro were there too but I'll say how they met everyone in another modern post if someone wants 🫶)

Now back to the restaurant- Laios and Senshi works at (Senshi owns it btw) Laios had always been a good cook while growing up, also taking any and all cooking classes he could while in high school

And he was amazing at it!

So good that THE Senshi, owner of the famous underground restaurant that turned monsters into FOOD, groundbreaking isn't it?? Sent him an invitation to come WORK DIRECTLY UNDER HIM

Laios had always wanted to cook monsters, and after visiting the restaurant once or twice growing up?? HELL YEAH HE WANTED TO WORK FOR SENSHI

This all happened in the span of about 7 years I suppose?

Now, summer time ⛱️

Laios definitely invites everyone to go to the beach, even his sister when she comes to visit from her studies!

And while Senshi is hesitant in leaving his restaurant (he kinda.. lives there too.) to see the beach he caves and says yes, but refuses to wear swim trunks. He looks like a barbeque dad lmao, full on Hawaiian shirt and some tan shorts, and some sandals as he's making some summer themed monster food for everyone

Marcille is the one trying to get him to wear trunks, gives up, but wears a super cute 1 piece to make herself feel better

Chilchuck is kinda in the same boat as Senshi, but wears trunks and the Hawaiian shirt, but sheds it later to go play chicken with the twins and Marcille out in the ocean while they wait for the yummy food

Marcille and Falin are going against Laios and Chilchuck!

Who won?

Chilchuck very quickly got pushed into the water, damn near drowned cause he wasn't prepared to swim after being knocked off of Laios' shoulders by Marcille (who he was talking trash to)

But after he stopped dying and held less of a grudge with Marcille after she dried him off, Senshi finally finished the food!

It was some grilled kraken skewers with some veggies, each customized specifically to everyone :D

They all spend the rest of their time at the beach telling stories, enjoying the skewers, and having general fun lol

I'll take the time here to talk about it a bit, hope you don't mind

So things for the past few months or so have just been unpleasant to the point of sucking a whole lot, for me and for the people closest to me, so I've been thinking back on stuff that makes me happy, like how I'd literally spend all day, from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed, just doing stuff for this blog, and it was one of the happiest times of my life (not joking)

And while talking to CL today, she brings up the idea of a reboot button on here. At first it was just a little ha ha thought, but again, thinking of how happy this blog made me, I started really thinking

We back and forthed some ideas, and I actually got really excited, thinking of all the stuff I could do and all the fun I could have

I won't spoil the major changes, but I was thinking that like, for a blog called "ask-edd", we don't really ask Edd a lot. The roster is over 40 characters strong, which is impressive, but it's a lot of characters that were just kinda sitting there bc they weren't being asked things. Really it was just spread too thin, so I'd like to downsize (dw, plenty of characters are still askable, it'll just be different)

And it'll be a bit different in that it won't technically be just an ask blog, though the main focus will still be answering questions. It'll just leave room for things like original posts :)

I will say though, if you wanna see more of the blormas (Binyot, Jobel, Crusty, Manny, etc) they're moreso gonna be housed on my EW art blog @hoodies-n-cola, though I'm at least 80% sure I'll keep them here too. I just feel like they can have more focus over there since Edd is supposed to be the focus here

But ye I really look forward to the grand re-opening, I hope y'all enjoy it as much as I feel like I'm going to, and thank you all so much for your support over the past 3 (4 in March!) years <3 <3 <3

This way I can remember what's going on in the thread, which will lead to an overall better rp experience. If posts don't get trimmed, I'll just have to make the reply and hit that big red X button that deletes everything before my response, so take that as a warning.

RESPECT MY FUCKING BOUNDARIES. I've had some issues with one individual who sucked me into this Fandom, they refused to take no for an answer, and forced me to rp an incest ship. This has scared me away from the rpc for years. If I say no, it does not mean "convince me," it means no. I have a three strikes your out policy.

I have a full-time job as a daycare teacher. I am not always online. Do not pester me for replies.

I like to talk in the DMs!! Please don't think that this is a passive aggressive attempt to get you to reply, as eager as I get, this is a hobby, and I will not rush you intentionally!! Please tell me politely if I make you feel rushed or don't want to talk via dms. (I personally just think that writing is more fun when you know your partners.) That being said, I do not want you feeling like you are responsible for my personal feelings, and vice versa. You are allowed to say no, I am allowed to say no. If you try and guilt trip me, that will count against your three strikes. (And I will warn you dw.)

I have kept up with the lore moderately well, but if I don't know something, or have forgotten something, do not bully me. I have zero tolerance for it. You respect me, and I respect you.
