#and while their commentary was about different subjects (Stuart's: environmentalism fittingly; Eddie's: police brutality and racism)

I was just listening again to Pearl Jam's cover of "Rockin' in The Free World" at Pinkpop in 1992, and I just remembered that one time I read the Youtube comments on a video of Big Country covering "Rockin' in The Free World" and at least one person commented something along the lines of "eat your heart out, Eddie Vedder" and, ignoring the fact that BC's performance was from a year before Pearl Jam covered the song at Pinkpop, I thought that was pretty callous and inaccurate. What Pearl Jam lacked in instrumental perfection (someone's guitar was out of tune during that particular performance, lol), they more than made up for in energy, and I'M SORRY BUT ARE YOU TRYING TO SUGGEST THAT STUART ADAMSON COULD OUTSING EDDIE VEDDER? GOODBYE. Every single time I listen to the way PJ intro that song (in that particular performance from Pinkpop), all the hairs on my arms stand up. Eddie's passion in singing it and the energy from the band playing it is just INSANELY GOOD - way too good to suggest that anyone else, even Big Country, could do better.
#welcome to my twisted mind where I regularly pit my favorite bands against each other and see who wins.#the interesting thing too is that each of those guys made (valid; necessary) social commentary during those performances#and while their commentary was about different subjects (Stuart's: environmentalism fittingly; Eddie's: police brutality and racism)#they were both clearly passionate and cared a lot about what they were singing about via the song. which is amazing tbh. I love that.#but Stuart wouldn't ever have been able to outsing Eddie. as a vocalist myself I can assure there are many factors that prove that.#like musically as in instrumentally BC did do better but VOCALLY + passion + energy-wise I'm sorry but...no. PJ win that.#also that one particular live cover that PJ did with Carrie Brownstein (and St. Vincent) beats Big Country's cover of it any day too. lol
