New York World’s Fair (1939) #1
#now we’re learning more about this character’s civilian identity beyond just that he’s rich#he’s apparently a millionaire playboy and he’s an inventor who’s connected to a large corporation#which tracks with that he presumably built his sleeping-gas gun#and was shown synthesizing the gas for it in the previous story#it was startlingly to see so much of his skin visible in this story after he swims to the boat#he spends five pages with no shirt on and just the strap holster for his gun barely covering any of his chest#not that I’m not used to see male superhero characters with visible skin at all#but it’s striking for this character that’s not physicality-based at all#he doesn’t physically fight anyone he’s entirely reliant on putting them to sleep#and his costume with the full suit and gas mask and gloves otherwise completely covers everything#dc#wesley dodds#my posts#comic panels
