#and to prioritize making both giving and receiving care accessible to everyone in a community
Text
perhaps it is unfair to moralize masking and make judgements against individuals when the state has failed us. sure.
but i have a lot of empathy, tons, for the disabled and immunocompromised people begging the communities around them to step up to protect them where the state has failed. it is okay to divest from the state and ask for community care instead. it is okay for disabled people to be angry that people with the means and ability to mask consistently refuse to, sometimes because they have given up bc of the failure of the govt and some because they genuinely do not care about the lives they may be endangering. someone who might die going to the grocery store has every right to be angry at someone who has the money for good masks and no pressure from the workplace to take it off and chooses to not wear one anyway. if your disabled comrades cannot ask this small sacrifice of you, how can we trust you to defend us when your lives are on the line?
“work on complete lockdown instead of telling people to wear masks” do you think it will be easier to grind the machine to a halt than to fundraise for kn95s and educate people on wearing them. do you think it will be easier to convince politicians that restaurants are unnecessary or your friends and comrades to do what they can to protect their communities. the state has failed. that is not reason to give up, it is reason to do everything we can.

Reasons to Go Local When Hiring a Plumber
Tumblr media
When encountered with plumbing issues, it's crucial to quickly find a reliable and skilled plumber to resolve them efficiently. While you may consider hiring a plumber from a larger, nationwide company, opting for a local plumber can often prove to be a better choice. This article explores the various reasons why choosing a local plumber can be advantageous over hiring a plumber from a distant corporation or a franchise.
1. Expertise in Local Codes and Regulations
Local plumbers are familiar with the specific plumbing codes and regulations of their area. This knowledge ensures that the work carried out by a local plumber will meet all the legal requirements and standards without any issues. They are well-versed in obtaining the necessary permits and licenses, making the process smoother and quicker.
2. Prompt Response
Plumbing emergencies can occur at any time, leaving you in urgent need of a professional. Hiring a local plumber increases the likelihood of receiving a prompt response to your plumbing needs. Generally, local plumbers are able to quickly reach your location, minimizing potential water damage, and providing immediate assistance when it's most required.
3. Familiarity with Local Suppliers
Local plumbers have established relationships with nearby suppliers. This often allows them to have easy access to plumbing materials, fixtures, and parts necessary for repairs or installations. They are familiar with the quality and reliability of these supplies, ensuring you receive top-notch products for your plumbing needs.
4. Support for Local Economy
By choosing a local plumber, you contribute to the growth and development of your local economy. Local businesses are more likely to reinvest their earnings within the community, supporting other local businesses and helping to build a stronger local economy. This can lead to a more vibrant and prosperous community for everyone.
5. Personalized Service and Customer Care
Local plumbers often prioritize providing exceptional customer service. They recognize the importance of building long-term relationships with their clients and strive to meet their individual needs. With a local plumber, you can expect a more personalized touch, better communication, and a higher level of customer care compared to larger corporations where you may be treated as just another customer.
6. Local Reputation and Recommendations
Local plumbers understand the value of maintaining a good reputation within their community. They rely heavily on positive word-of-mouth referrals to grow their business. By hiring a local plumber, you can benefit from their established reputation in the area. Local plumbers are more likely to have a track record of satisfied customers and positive recommendations, giving you greater confidence in their services.
7. Greater Accountability and Responsiveness
When working with a local plumber, you have the advantage of dealing directly with the business owner or a plumber who has a personal stake in their work. This translates to greater accountability and responsiveness to any issues or concerns that may arise. Local plumbers take pride in their work and are more invested in maintaining their reputation, ensuring that they deliver high-quality service to their clients.
8. Cost-Effective Solutions
Contrary to common belief, local plumbers can offer cost-effective solutions. Since they have smaller overhead costs compared to larger companies, they are often able to provide competitive pricing without compromising on the quality of their work. Additionally, local plumbers are more likely to assess the unique requirements of your plumbing needs and provide tailored solutions that are both efficient and cost-effective.
Conclusion
Hiring a local plumber is a wise decision for several reasons. Their expertise in local codes and regulations, prompt response, familiarity with local suppliers, support for the local economy, personalized service, local reputation, greater accountability and responsiveness, and cost-effective solutions make them a preferred choice for many. The next time you require plumbing services, consider going local and see the benefits firsthand.

Inside Duchess Meghan’s Emotional Farewell to Royal Life at a Private Engagement
It was supposed to be a quiet day off in the countryside until my phone went berserk—the staccato buzz I set for palace correspondence almost sending it off the table. “His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle,” the November 27, 2017, email read, followed by a note inviting royal correspondents to join the couple for a special photo call to mark the occasion. A few road rules may have been bent to make the 80-ish mile drive from Oxfordshire to Kensington Palace—in traffic—but it was worth it. Standing by the lily-covered Sunken Pond as Harry shared his joy at finally finding his teammate, it was the perfect start to a chapter that would finally bring the royal family into the 21st century. Over the months and years that followed, I closely shadowed the work of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, getting to know the couple better through their humanitarian endeavors, engagements, and overseas visits. Their high-energy work ethic and passion for social justice attracted a new, more diverse demographic of royal watcher to the scene. As a young(ish), biracial royal correspondent, the change was exciting. And as their popularity grew around the world, so did a new golden era for the House of Windsor. Never did I expect that less than two and half years later I would be standing in one of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace as the Duchess of Sussex emotionally bids much-loved aides farewell, with her flight “home” to Canada leaving in a matter of hours. But then, neither did the couple. After starting the year with a formal proposal to move into part-time working royal roles, and bring some much-needed privacy and safety to their family life, Harry and Meghan’s hopes were quickly dashed by an institution seemingly unable to accept change as a viable option (even though some royals across Europe—and even other members of the British royal family—have succeeded in balancing duties to the crown and individual careers). To say they were crushed is an understatement. It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received as they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily mistruths and hateful commentary. While recent tabloid coverage has made it seem like the Sussexes’ half-in-half-out bid was about wanting it all, the reality was a couple who were left with no other choice but to create their own change after being left to fend for themselves against impossible circumstances—even during her pregnancy. They knew something had to change, but they also didn’t want to stop supporting the queen. One can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if a family member or two had stood up for them during the darkest times. Despite the pain and difficulties behind the scenes, work has continued to be a priority for the duchess, who is excited to be carrying over her four royal patronages into the Sussexes’ new chapter. It’s also the reason why I was at Buckingham Palace's 1844 Room on Monday, having been invited alongside two other journalists to cover Meghan’s final engagement as a senior working royal: meeting 22 students who have received scholarships from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). As their royal patron—a role she took over from the queen in 2019—Meghan will continue to prioritize the organization even after officially stepping back on March 31, especially given her position as the vice president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and a former scholarship student herself. In fact, Meghan’s time at Illinois’s prestigious Northwestern University, where she majored in international relations and theater, is what drew her to the ACU in the first place. “The value and importance of higher education is why it should be accessible to everyone, no matter your background,” she says. For Commonwealth Day, March 9, the ACU brought together some of their brightest minds for a private meeting with the duchess, ahead of their attendance at Westminster Abbey’s Commonwealth Service, where some would bear the flags of their countries. The students are all studying masters or PhDs in the U.K. after receiving scholarships from the ACU’s three programs—Commonwealth Scholars, Chevening Scholars, and the ACU Blue Charter Fellow. “That’s what so powerful,” says Meghan, a long-time champion of the importance of universal access to higher education. “This incredible union and the ability to gain so much knowledge and to be able to take that back home.” Chatting with the scholars, the duchess is eager to hear more about how their studies will contribute to tackling the many challenges our world faces today. As she talks with the students, it becomes clear that she’s already done her research on why each guest was invited. It’s inspiring to seeing someone so prepared for these types of engagements, as opposed to just showing up for the photographs. But Meghan doesn’t know any other way of doing it. “I think it’s so important to actually engage with people,”she explains.“I care about these things!” The ACU has seen over 90,000 scholars come through their administered programs, and those invited to Monday’s meeting represent 11 Commonwealth countries in total. Halima Ali, a lawyer from Kenya who is currently studying for her masters in energy and natural resources law at London’s Queen Mary University, says Meghan’s role as patron is hugely important. “For Commonwealth and also Africa countries,” she says,“to see her, her interest, her participation, means a lot to us.” Meghan seems particularly impressed as she chats with Archana Kaliyaraj Selva Kumar, a chemistry student at Oxford University, who has devoted much of her time to using her research to create a new sustainable energy-storing battery that can help communities back in India without wired power. She is also an advocate for helping more women get into science. “What an incredible role model you are,” Meghan tells her. “And seeing is believing. Others see you and ... seeing someone in that space is so inspiring.” During a conversation with a female PhD student from Kenya, Meghan’s eyes light up when the subject of sustainable travel comes up. “That’s something my husband is incredibly passionate about,” she tells the Sheffield Hallam University student. “During our travels to Botswana and different parts of Africa, we’ve seen the link between tourism and how much money is going outside of the country instead of back to communities. There has to be a symbiotic relationship.” For her own travels with Harry, Meghan prefers to move around in a way that allows them to integrate with the locals. “When we go to Botswana, we grab a backpack and pitch a tent!” Meghan laughs. “It’s not much, but that’s how we like it!” Standing at the side of the room, I spot Secretary General of the ACU Joanna Newman looking on proudly. She came to know the duchess well from their numerous ACU engagements and meetings together, and is excited about their relationship continuing long into the future. “She has been a fantastic amplifier of ACU messages to much broader audiences for us,” she tells me, adding that her patronage has given the ACU coverage in places they could have never reached before, including Harper's BAZAAR. She calls Meghan a powerful spokesperson, recalling how she started public conversations about the lack of Black professors and even period poverty.>“The headlines haven’t been about what our patron is wearing or the official engagement started at this time and ended at that time and there was a cup of tea in the middle, it’s about why we are doing what we do and why ACU exists. She’s been a real champion of the work that universities do.” The ACU meeting came at the end of what Sussex aides have nicknamed a “farewell tour” for Harry and Meghan—a chance to tie up loose ends at the palace while taking on a slew of final royal engagements. The itinerary has been packed, starting when I joined the Duke of Sussex in Edinburgh, Scotland, on February 26 as his sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst, entered its next development phase. The ambitious project will be a key component of the Sussexes’ philanthropic portfolio, and it’s become extremely clear just how important the cause is to Harry, who regularly takes part in meetings behind the scenes. Chatting with him one-on-one recently, I was struck by how knowledgeable he has become in this field; his many trips to Botswana inspired the beginnings of the initiative more than a year ago. As one of the attendees at the Edinburgh work summit whispered to me after his speech, “He’s about to change the game for good.” Reuniting after five days apart, Harry and Meghan’s showstopping arrival at the Endeavour Fund Awards served as a reminder of their ability to command the world’s attention. “Nothing to see here, just Meghan Markle showing the fuck out during her final round of royal duties,” wrote a Twitter user, as the pictures of the couple beaming under their umbrella went viral around the world. Inside the ceremony, the focus was firmly on the veterans being honored, all speaking highly of the duke, or Captain Wales, as he’s better known in the veteran community. It’s that mission to support servicemen and servicewomen that has seen Harry pledge to continue to support the community in his new non-working royal life, not just in the United Kingdom but also in North America too. The first task? Bringing the work of the Endeavour Fund and Invictus Games, both of which he helped establish, closer together. Harry’s lifelong commitment is why Saturday’s Mountbatten Festival of Music was a particularly difficult moment, wearing his Captain General of the Royal Marines uniform for the last time. Giving up his royal duties has resulted in his military honors coming to an end—a particularly tough pill to swallow and something that has been just as difficult for his wife to witness. It is, a source close to the couple tells me, a wound that will take time to heal for Harry. Meghan’s surprise appearance at an East London school for International Women’s Day and more traditional royal engagements such as Harry opening an immersive British motorsport museum alongside Lewis Hamilton (“There's nothing better than officially opening a building that is very much open,” the duke joked about the Silverstone Experience, which first opened its doors in October 2019) that rounded out what has been a roller coaster of a farewell visit for the Sussexes. Getting on with the work has always been what it’s been about for Harry and Meghan, but behind the smiles of the photos has been a vulnerable couple who are still very much hurting. Back at Buckingham Palace, the ACU students now en route to Westminster Abbey and Harry quietly slipping through the door to say hello, the reality—and the emotions—finally set in as I give Meghan a goodbye hug. She’s flying back to Canada on the last commercial flight of the day, eager to be back in Vancouver Island to be there when Archie wakes up. For a couple who only ever wanted to focus on their work and bring good to the world, it seems like an unnecessarily cruel ending to their royal lives. Forced to give up roles they’re incredibly proud of after sacrificing so much to get there. At this point, the grand Drawing Room is almost empty and tears that the duchess had been bravely holding back are free to flow among familiar faces. As she embraces some of the loyal staff she will most likely not see again, I can’t help but feel sad for the dedicated team members whose tireless efforts—to promote the couple’s work, launch landmark projects, and deal with the near-daily crises brought on by tabloid lies—have come to an abrupt end. Compared to other royal households, it was a smaller operation, with less resources than the more sophisticated offices at Clarence House and Kensington Palace, but in the short space of a year since setting up, Team Sussex had become like a family, looking out for the couple as much as they could. While the weeks and months ahead will no doubt present new challenges for the Sussexes, the couple genuinely feel a sense of excitement about what’s to come, which includes the freedom to work at a pace that suits them, no longer weighed down by protocol or threatened by toxic agendas. And while much has been (incorrectly) speculated about specific commercial endeavors they might be taking on, both Harry and Meghan are eager to get stuck into their work, which will still revolve around their humanitarian efforts and helping amplify the voices of young people around the world on a wide gamut of issues. “The terrain may be a little different but their priorities are exactly the same as before,” a well-placed source tells me. “Keeping the family, most importantly Archie, safe is what will make all of this worth it.” (x)

Political Party Action
Republican Party Platform
-A brief statement assessing the position of EACH party. If you cannot find the party’s position on your issue please state so and provide a few general inferences as to why the party may not include this issue in their platform.
-Do you agree with their position? Why or why not?
-The Republican party did not have a section directly referring to people with mental illness. Rather, they put just a sentence into a few of the subcategories that relate to mental illness. I think that this shows how the party is not prioritizing people with mental illness.
-In the healthcare section, the platform stands for removing Obama care and Medicaid. I do not agree with this, many Americans, and many of those people having mental illness or addiction, rely on systems such as Medicaid for access to treatments and healthcare. Many people with mental illness are low income or homeless and removing Obamacare and Medicaid would hurt them.
-In the criminal justice section, the platform states “Mandatory minimum sentencing became an important tool for keeping them off the streets. Modifications to it should be targeted toward particular categories, especially nonviolent offenders and persons with drug, alcohol, or mental health issues, and should require disclosure by the courts of any judicial departure from the state’s sentencing requirements” (40)
-I also do not agree with this stance on people with mental illnesses in the criminal justice system. People with mental illnesses do not belong in prison and jail and yet, this is where many of those same people end up. The government should be helping give these people a safe place to live where they can have access to medications and professional care. Psychiatric institutions are not what they used to be and our government needs to step up and help people, not just throw them in prison with slightly lessened sentences.
Democrat Party Platform
-A brief statement assessing the position of EACH party. If you cannot find the party’s position on your issue please state so and provide a few general inferences as to why the party may not include this issue in their platform.
-Do you agree with their position? Why or why not?
-The Democratic Party’s position on Mental Health is that they will expand access to mental health care and substance use disorder treatment.
-I agree with this position, more people desperately need access to treatments and care. I also agree with them wanting to expand the already existing aid to people suffering from mental illness and addiction, including medicare. I view this as a positive because it helps many people who would not otherwise be able to afford any care.
-The Democratic Party’s position on people with mental illness in prison and jail is that, “...incarcerated people suffer from serious mental health and substance use disorders at higher rates than the general population, which is why we will support expanded access to mental health and substance use disorder care in prisons and for returning citizens.”
-I agree with this and I think that the help to those in prison is definitely a step that needs to be taken. I also realize that some of those people really needed to have been placed in psychiatric care, not in prison. So, I believe that the Democratic Party’s position as well as reinstituting state psychiatric hospitals where people can also be placed needs to be taken.
Libertarian Party Position:
-The Libertarian Party wants health care to be a free market system. I do not agree with this because while it includes people's individual rights to choose what healthcare they want, it leaves out those that can not afford it.
-The Libertarian Party does not specify people with mental illness in their position. I do not think that they really considered people with mental illnesses in their position. I think that this leaves it too open for people with mental illnesses to get abused by the current criminal justice system.
Green Party Position:
-The Green Party’s position on the rights of the disabled includes increasing public sensitivity, making it easier for those to apply for and receive supplemental security income, and funding community based programs. I agree with this and think that our government should implement some of these policies and programs.
-The Green Party stands for releasing prisoners with mental illnesses to mental illness treatment centers and ensuring psychological and medical care and rehabilitation services for prisoners with mental illnesses. I agree with this. We definitely need care systems both inside prisons and outside but, people with severe mental illnesses really shouldn’t be in prisons.
The Peace and Freedom Party Position:
-The Peace and Freedom Party’s stance on health care is that it should be free and high quality for everyone. I agree with this and I think that it would benefit many of those who can not afford health care, including those with mental illnesses.
-The Peace and Freedom Party does not state their stance on those with mental illnesses in prisons. I think that this shows that it is not high on their agenda and that they may not care about it.
Reflect:
-Which party position do you identify with the most? Is that surprising?
-Would you vote for their presidential candidate?
-On this issue, I identify most with the Green Party’s position, no not really.
-I would not vote for their presidential candidate. Although they have these viewpoints, I wonder how they would actually achieve all of it. I also do not know enough about the candidate because they are not one of the two major parties. I also agree with the Democratic Party’s position and would rather vote for them so my vote in the election counted much more and I know a lot more about the Democratic Party and know that my stance on a majority of issues aligns with theirs.
Presidential debate assessment:
-Was your civic action issue a topic during the debate? If so, summarize the position taken by each candidate during the debate; the effectiveness of their argument; whether you agree or disagree with their position.
-Explain if their debate message contradicted or supported their party platform on your issue.
-If your civic action issue was not a topic during the debate you may skip this question.
-My exact civic action issue was not a topic during the debate but, at least one of the subcategories was. This subcategory was the Affordable Healthcare Act which affects many of those with mental illnesses.
-Biden was a pro Affordable Healthcare Act. He believes that people who are very poor and really need healthcare should have access to healthcare. The effectiveness was a 4 for me, it would have been a 5 if I could have heard him better over Trump's constant interruption. I agree with Biden's position and it was consistent with the party’s platform on my issue.
-Trump was against the Affordable Healthcare Act. He just kept talking about how he could cut the price of pharmaceutical drugs which does not cover the entirety of affordable healthcare which would also include access to doctors and other medical professionals. The effectiveness of his argument was a one for me, a lot of what he said was not true and could not have been backed up by evidence. I disagree with his position, he has not done anything in office to improve the healthcare system, he has only cut what many people rely on as their only access to healthcare. It was consistent with his party’s position, he kept talking about cutting existing programs and their funding.

New Reputation: Taylor Swift shares intel on TS7, fan theories, and her next era
Snakes begone. The 29-year-old superstar is back with a new album and a new outlook on life. We go inside the pop monarch's latest chapter.
THE PALM TREES ARRIVED IN FEBRUARY, seven in all, set against a pastel blue backdrop with superimposed stars. It appeared that a new Taylor Swift era was upon us — that the old happy-go-lucky Taylor was not, in fact, dead. Or did it? It wasonly an Instagram photo, just one more picture in an infinite content scroll. But it also came from a pop star known for prodigious hint-dropping, whose fans turn every piece of info into an online archaeological dig.
As expected, the summery post sent Swifties sifting through each detail with a fine-tooth comb. What did the trees symbolize? An overdue vacation? A recently purchased beach house? A secret palm-frond collection? Or maybe, as many surmised, it was new music. One Twitter user predicted that the number of stars in the background of the photo hinted at a single drop: “There’s about 60/61 [stars]️. There’s 61 days until April 26, FRIDAY, a SINGLE RELEASE day!” Another said it was the unofficial announcement of her next LP: “Okay so in this picture there are 4 palm trees on the left (4 country albums). There are two palm trees on the right (2 pop albums). There is one large palm tree in the middle. This represents her new album.” These may sound like ludicrous conspiracy theories — for the record, they were mostly correct — but they fit firmly within the Taylor Swift Musical Universe (it’s like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but with more guitars and fewer Stan Lee cameos).
“I posted that the day that I finished the seventh album,” says Swift about the photo. “I couldn’t expect [my fans] to know that. I figured they’d figure it out later, but a lot of their theories were actually correct. Those Easter eggs were just trying to establish that tone, which I foreshadowed ages ago in a Spotify vertical video for ‘Delicate’ by painting my nails those [pastel] colors.”
It’s now April, and the 29-year-old pop star is in a Los Angeles photo studio, giving her first sit-down magazine interview in three years. She wants to discuss the art of placing hints inside her work, as well as the upcoming record, which she recorded as soon as she finished the Reputation Tour. She’s also keen on detailing her own obsessions, talking up the TV shows, books, and songs that help shape her outlook on life.
Over the past 13 years, Swift has perfected the pop culture feedback loop: She shares updates about her life and drops hints about new music, which fans then gobble up and re-promote with their own theories, which Swift then re-shares on her Tumblr or incorporates into future clues. It’s like a T-Swift-built Escher staircase of personal memories and moments that tease what’s next. “I’ve trained them to be that way,” she says of her fans’ astute detective work. Swift is a pop culture fanatic herself (see: the jean jacket she’s wearing on the EW cover) and has an innate understanding of the lengths her audience will go to be a part of the original creation. “I love that they like the cryptic hint-dropping. Because as long as they like it, I’ll keep doing it. It’s fun. It feels mischievous and playful.”
Through this approach, Swift has designed the ultimate artistic scavenger hunt — and it’s easy to get swept up in its drama, even if you don’t listen to her music. Her moments aren’t always hidden, either. Sometimes Swift highlights aspects of her world just so fans feel like they’re on the journey with her. Like the time in March 2018 when pop singer Hayley Kiyoko was accused of shading Swift after mentioning her name during an interview. On Tumblr, Swift re-shared a fan’s post, adding commentary that defended Kiyoko, which immediately dispelled any conflicts between the two artists; Swift’s post subsequently received more than 29,000 notes. Four months later, she invited Kiyoko on stage during the Reputation Tour to sing her hit “Curious.” Kiyoko returned the favor when she had Swift join her that December at a benefit on behalf of the LGBTQ organization the Ally Coalition to perform “Delicate.” Fans of both artists were elated by the mutual support.
The feedback loop also extends outside of music. In October 2018, Swift broke her silence about politics by publicly endorsing two candidates for office in her adopted state of Tennessee, while encouraging her followers to register to vote. She kept up the civic momentum through Election Day when she asked fans to post selfies after voting; Swift then eagerly re-promoted her favorites on Instagram stories.
This practice of sharing and re-sharing and sharing again is why listeners consider Swift one of the world’s most accessible pop stars, someone willing to not only interact with her audience but invite them to secret listening sessions, or make the occasional surprise visit to their wedding or prom. It’s a symbiotic relationship, one that, as Swift tells EW, helped her dig out of the darker era of reputation. “It’s definitely the fans that made that tonal shift in the way I was feeling,” she says. “Songwriters need to communicate, and part of communicating correctly is when you put out a message that is understood the way you meant it. reputation was interesting because I’d never before had an album that wasn’t fully understood until it was seen live. When it first came out everyone thought it was just going to be angry; upon listening to the whole thing they realized it’s actually about love and friendship, and finding out what your priorities are.”
Then, during the Reputation Tour, she had an epiphany: that despite the caricature that she thought had been created of her, there were many people who saw what others had simply refused to. “I would look out into the audience and I’d see these amazing, thoughtful, caring, wonderful, empathetic people,” she says. “So often with our takedown culture, talking s— about a celebrity is basically the same as talking s— about the new iPhone. So when I go and I meet fans, I see that they actually see me as a flesh-and-blood human being. That — as contrived as it may sound — changed [me] completely, assigning humanity to my life.”
At tour’s end, she channeled that positive energy into the studio, recording the new album in just under three months. But the fast pace won’t mean a short LP. Swift confirmed that her seventh record (she hasn’t announced a title yet; the working nickname among fans is TS7) will include more songs than any of her previous releases. “I try not to go into making an album with any expectation,” she says. “I started to write so much that I knew immediately it would probably be bigger.”
The project will also feature a mix of old and new collaborators (on the candy-coated lead single “ME!” Swift brought in Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendon Urie and coproducer Joel Little, both of whom she had never worked with), but she is unsurprisingly coy about doling out much more information, as if doing so would break the carefully honed T-Swiftian feedback loop. “There’s a lot of a lot on this album,” she says. “I’m trying to convey an emotional spectrum. I definitely don’t wanna have too much of one thing…. You get some joyful songs and you get the bops, as they say.” There’s also, she adds, some “really, really, really, really sad songs,” but “not enough to where you need to worry about me.”
She gives us one more clue: The true distinction between TS7 and reputation is in the delivery. “This time around I feel more comfortable being brave enough to be vulnerable, because my fans are brave enough to be vulnerable with me. Once people delve into the album, it’ll become pretty clear that that’s more of the fingerprint of this — that it’s much more of a singer-songwriter, personal journey than the last one.”
The past month has seen a deluge of Swift activity, from the release of the new single to dropping more hints in interviews about the record and its title, which is apparently hidden somewhere inside the “ME!” music video (current fan guesses include Kaleidoscope and Daisy). But if the Easter eggs from the pop star seem like a business-as-usual routine, she says this album does indeed mark a new era of her life, where she’s been better able to prioritize what’s important to her.
“Our priorities can get messed up existing in a society that puts a currency on curating the way people see your life,” she says. “Social media has given people a way to express their art. I use it to connect with fans. But on the downside you feel like there are 3 trillion new invisible hoops that you have to jump through, and you feel like you’ll never be able to jump through them all correctly. I — along with a lot of my friends and fans — am trying to figure out how to navigate living my life and not just curating what I want people to think living my life is. I’m not always able to maintain a balance, and I think that’s important for everyone to know about. We’re always learning, and that’s something that I also had to learn — that I’ve got to be brave enough to learn. Learning in public is so humiliating sometimes…. Do I feel more balanced in my life than I ever have before? Um, probably yeah. But is that permanent? No. And I think being okay with that has put me in a bit of a better position.” Strong words to live by, to quote, to re-share, to tweet back to her, and see if she’ll respond.

New Reputation: Taylor Swift shares intel on TS7, fan theories, and her next era

New Reputation: Taylor Swift shares intel on TS7, fan theories, and her next era
Snakes begone. The 29-year-old superstar is back with a new album and a new outlook on life. We go inside the pop monarch's latest chapter.
By Alex Suskind May 09, 2019
THE PALM TREES ARRIVED IN FEBRUARY, seven in all, set against a pastel blue backdrop with superimposed stars. It appeared that a new Taylor Swift era was upon us — that the old happy-go-lucky Taylor was not, in fact, dead. Or did it? It wasonly an Instagram photo, just one more picture in an infinite content scroll.
