tomorrow the bell tolls. and it tolls for magical johneliad

ive been magical johneliad posting for a while now and ive been threatening his death for a lot of that time but i genuinely have to make the choice to save or kill him tomorrow. his condition has been degrading for a long time. ive had to remove his dying flower and countless dead, rotting leaves. he's also an absolute powerhouse for fungus gnats. i don't think much of him is going to remain intact after this so im not even sure how much there is to save but at least the chance to dissect him is exciting (normal thing to say)

im going to try and kickstart root growth in the fresh propagules by keeping them in water rather than soil and im moving Burdock and Chorus into the same setup because they still have no root system to speak of. this will also hopefully curb the current fungus gnat infestation of which the bromeliads are the worst affected plants

they're all named. John II and Samuel for the first and most isolated pair, Paddy and Bongo for the ones nestled in outer leaves (named by a friend of mine. what was she thinking) and Amber and 'Two for the remaining ones. i plan to give Sam and Paddy away to friends and i want to put 'Two, Bongo and the hopefully alive Amber elsewhere in the house. the rest will stay with the rest of my collection

IN CONCLUSION: the bell tolls for John but his bloodline is (mostly) thriving
