One Two Three
Vecna is incensed when Pelor returns, and not because he'd been on his own. "You left them alive!" Vecna snarls, the exposed muscles of his face and neck pulled taut in his frustration. "The were right there! You could have finished them!" "They are children, Vecna, perhaps we could-" "They are a threat!" "Children!" "You need to get rid of them-" "Mind your tone, Vecna, I am not to be disrespected," Pelor growls; he can feel his eyes flashing dangerously, can feel the air grow hot with his anger. Vecna falls silent, his eyes sharp with displeasure. "I don't think we need to kill them. We can convince them to turn, they're children." "... How do you propose we do that, lord?" Vecna's response is strained, tight. Steve- er, Pelor- relaxes a bit. "They seem to be reminded of a fallen comrade when they speak to me," he announces. "I think I can show them the truth. Fighting will be futile, they'll see that if I just speak to them."
*****
"Dustin, he's gone, there's no way that he's still Steve in there, he attacked Jonathan," Mike argued, smacking his fist against the table. They'd reconvened at the Byers' home, as always; Robin and Eddie stayed with the kids, while Nancy, Hop, and Joyce took Jonathan to the hospital.
"That's not fair, Mike, you never gave up on Eddie!" Dustin shouted, shoving himself back to stand from the table.
"Eddie never tried to kill one of us!"
"Actually, I did," Eddie interrupted softly. "Twice." Mike wilted a little, leaning closer to Will.
"Well- well you never hurt us!" He tried to argue, but Eddie shook his head.
"I did, Mike. Remember? I broke Lucas's wrist, and I almost killed Dustin. If it hadn't been for Steve and El, neither of them would be here." Eddie tugged on one of his curls, expression absent. El nodded from the couch, holding up the 'rock on' gesture that Eddie had recently taught her.
"But-"
"Dude, can you chill? We know you don't like Steve, but he's one of us," Lucas admonished, making Mike blush.
"He hurt Jonathan!"
"No, Vecna hurt Steve. Steve doesn't know that he knows us, remember? When Dustin and Eddie tried his song, he stopped fighting. He ran away," Will piped up, voice soft but firm. "And when he attacked us before, he ran away as soon as he saw Jonathan. He was hurt, and Steve freaked out. He's still in there, Mike."
Mike didn't say anything for a moment, floundering for an argument. It was possibly the closest they'd seen Mike to tears since 1984. "Well- well he's still a piece of shit!" He finally snapped, storming out of the dining room and down the hall.
Silence reigned for a few minutes after Mike's departure. This time, Robin was the one to break it.
"So... I still can't tell if Mike hates Steve or has a crush on him," she noted quietly, making the kids snort (not laugh- they were all much too jaded to laugh at the moment.).
"Crush, definitely," Max decided immediately.
******
Will, Max, Lucas, Mike, and El had fallen asleep sometime during the movie Robin put on. Robin stayed in with them, waiting by the phone for any update on Jonathan.
Dustin and Eddie stepped out around midnight. They didn't go anywhere, just on the porch, while Eddie smoked a cigarette. Gods, he needed it; two Steve sightings in a week after almost a year of nothing, and both times Steve hadn't really come home. Dustin was just as exhausted, leaning forward on his knees as he watched the sky.
"We'll get him back, right, Eddie?" Dustin asked weakly. Eddie had to nod, despite his own growing doubts.
"He can't leave us, Henderson," he consoled. "He's- he's lost. Vecna's got him all turned around, but we can get him back. His song, remember?"
"His stupid, thirty-year-old Elvis song," Dustin snorted, wiping his nose on his sleeve. Eddie chuckled softly, using his whole body to nudge Dustin.
"Don't talk shit about the King, Henderson, this is the only thing we can't make fun of Steve for."
"It's a love song, Eddie."
"It's a good song, Dustin!" Eddie smiled a little wider when Dustin made a noise that could almost be called a laugh, proud to have brought Dustin out of his melancholic mood.
As Dustin calmed, his mood sank a little more. "Eddie... If he's not- not Steve, right now, than who is he?"
"Is that some kind of riddle I'm supposed to solve?"
"No, numbnuts, I mean, like, when you weren't you, you were Kas. Vecna's general. But Steve's not like you were, it's almost like- almost like he's being influenced, but not controlled." Eddie hummed at this, nodding slowly. "So who is he?"
"Just looking at him, he looks more like a general than I ever did-"
"Eddie, whatever they did to you, you still have fangs-"
"-but he's also not as... dark. Not as cold either; have you noticed he glows?" Eddie shook his head. "Anyway. The glowing, the warmth, the way that things grow around him, which is way different than them dying like things usually do from the Upside Down.... I'd say he's Pelor."
"Pelor? But Pelor is benign, what's he doing fighting us?"
"That's where Vecna's influence must come in. He tried to-to corrupt Steve, and he couldn't, so he just... confused him." Eddie drummed his fingers together, thinking hard. "It's like- like Vecna's cast Confusion on him. We just have to break the spell."
"But if he's never here long enough for us to use the song- he ran away last time, if we can't keep him around, how can we break the curse?" Dustin asked, face furrowed in thought. "How do we get him back if every time we try, he disappears?"
"We make it so he can't disappear," Eddie supplied. "We need to convince him that he's safe with us, like a feral cat- yeah, exactly like a cat! Baby steps, we make sure he knows he's safe with us, and we can get him back."

Wait I saw a post saying the time skip could a 1yr+
IM SORRY THAT FEELS CRAZY??? HOW ARE THEY GONNA TIE UP LOOSE ENDS FROM S4???
like there's no way within that year timeskip Mike WOULDN'T have talked about the painting to El, I wanted to see that scene so badly 😭
AND JONATHAN AND NANCY'S SITUATION??? In that WHOLE year they probably would've talked about the college thing, Nancy probably found out he lied, so they could be broken up, idk?????
Do Mike, Lucas, and Dustin become like hated by the town because of their affiliation with Hellfire?????
Is Mileven STILL together?
how are they gonna handle these things in the story? I could understand a few months in a time skip but too long just makes it harder to answer these questions which are potentially pivotal moments for specific characters story arcs, I'm sure they'll handle it but STILL. YKWIM????

Eldritch Steve
part 16
-
Nancy sits at her mother's bedside, has for hours, ever since Hopper what her happened. Sometimes she holds her mothet's hand, other times it feels too limp in her grip and she holds her own hands. She doesn't know what to do, there is si much to do. She has to tell Mike and Holly, has to prepare for how shes going to take care of them.
She doesn't know how she's going to do that. She only just moved out. She doesn't have the room, and she doesn't have the money for something bigger. She doesn't know what she is going to do.
She feels so alone as she sits listening to the steady beat of the hear heart moniter, Hopper had been kind enough to drop her off after he told her.
Nancy blinked.
She doesn't know where Mike and Holly are, it hadn't occured to her to ask Hopper this morning.
Oh. She was already so bad at this guardian thing, she hadn't even been good at baby sitting, hated that by she'd been forced to watch her siblings while her mother went grocery shopping.
What was she going to do. She wasn't ready for kids and neither Jonathan or Argyle, were either, she wasn't even sure she wanted her own.
Steve's talk had given her heebie Jeebies and she was glad he'd turned to Munson for that, even though she had realized Steve was just telling her because he wanted someone to know and not that he wanted her as the mother in his dream, she suspected that Steve might be the mother in that scenario.
Nancy let out a small noise as she buned her face in her hands. What was she going to do?
-
It was hours later that the door opened slowly.
Nancy turned and tried to smile for Mike but it didn't quite make it.
"Hey" She said and opened her arms, only a little bit surprised when mike fell into them.
They hugged for a long time, silently taking comfort in each other.
"Holly didn't want to come." Eddie said eventually, "and Steve didn't think it wise to force the issue.
Nancy looked over at him and nodded. "Okay. Thank you for bringing Mike."
"Of course" Eddie gave her a look and tilted his head toward the door.
"Hey, Mikie, I've got to talk to Eddie a moment, can I leave you with mom, maybe tell her about your day?" Nancy asked.
Mike tightened his before nodding and pushing her away taking Nancy's position at their mother's side as she left the room, leaving the door slightly open as they stood in the hall.
"Steve talked to his mother and Claudia." Eddie started. "Claudia is going to take Mike until Karen wakes up and Emilia is going to open a trust for in him and Holly and give Claudia a stipend for taking care of him.
Nancy's mouth dropped open
"What?"
Eddie looked at her.
"Your mom had a living willn Steve gets Holly and Mike. Hopper had it Read this morning, so things could get settled and we talked it out with Mike and he'd rather not live with Steve, So Claudia was asked since she's got the room and we Got that Sorted so you don't need to worry about that, we also had a talk with the party.
"Jonathan is stopping by later with food and Argyle is going to take you home for sleep, we cleared Jonathan to stay the night with her, if anyone askes you're married and Robin's your sister and Argyle is her husband, they'll take shifts so your mom's not alone, even Wayne's going to take a few hours."
Eddie looked at Nancys wide tearfilled eyes and pulled her into a hug.
"You're not alone, we are here if you need us and you're not getting out of it. We've got your back, whether its involves monster monsters or human monsters."
Nancy sniffled.. "You think I can talk Dteve into eating Ted." Nancy asked through her tears.
"Might finally give him Indigestion. "Eddie told her and smiled a little when she laughed " but I'll give him the heads up."
"Okay, I should get back in there." Nancy said eventually.
"Remember, you've got a safety net, Nancy, We are here for you when you need us." Eddie reminded her.
Nancy nodded "Is Mike?"
"Argyle is dropping him off at Steve's, the kids are having a Sleep over and we're doing a campaign to get his mind off this, the other other guys are even going to come hang out. So, he knows the plan and he said he'd let us know if he changes his mind but he's not going to be alone.
"Robin and Joyce are going to go to yours and take you to Claudia's, where you and them along with Lucas' mom are going to have a girls night. and figure out your next steps, even if it just ends up being where you plan Ted's death."
Nancy looked at Eddie.
"Thank you, Eddie, tell Steve too, I feel better knowing Holly and Mike are taken care of." Nancy said.
"You are too, Emilia paid a year of your rent, she wanted to do more but Stevr made her hold off. So, you can just focus on taking care of Karen right now." Eddie told her, not surprised when Nancy ran into the hospital room to hide her feelings, she felt over whelmed by the support of her friends, no, they were family too.
Nancy sniffled and then turned to Mike, walking over to cram her self in the same chair, her brother turning to cling to her just as much as she clung to him.
Holly was safe with Steve, Mike was safe, had a place to sleep and go if the worst happened and she didn't have to worry about anything but her mother.
And Ted... Ted would get what he deserved.
She hoped Steve made him suffer.
And the moniter beeped steadily.

3, 6, 14, and 18 for that second st ask game
hi nons :)
3- arrange the seasons from your most favourite to least favourite
hrrmmm for the seasons as a whole i'd probably say 2, 3, 4, 1
i think season two was the most balanced, like i can watch s2 from start to finish no problem, whereas 3 is kind of like that but some of the jancy plot in s3 was so painful and dragged on a lot. then four is an absolute dumpster fire /aff, but with some really top tier moments in it. like hawkins plot? fantastic. no notes. cali plot? oh you're being gay, good job, carry on. russia plot and lab plot??? SKIPPPPPP. sorry. my b. its unbalanced. and then i don't really love season one because 1, peak mlvn season and it made it very hard to watch, 2, where is will. i know where he is but i want him back (i just think its better when the whole party is together), and 3, it was kind of smaller scale which i don't like as much. s2 felt more important. on the other hand s1 was stoncy time so i do love that. anyway i have rambled enough, sorry.
6- Which top 5 dynamics that haven’t been explored yet would you want to see?
Madwheeler. MADWHEELER. M A D W H E. E L E R !! ! ! ! !
og party. they've kind of been explored, but not enough!!! give me lucas mike dustin and will back they were literally babies the last time they were all together for the main plot :(
will + nancy// mike and jonathan. come on. the drama. the angst. will and nancy stuck somewhere dangerous and mike and jon stuck somewhere else dangerous and they can't get to eachother. and nance/jon are like 🤨 why do you care so much. gay.
robin and mike. HE NEEDS A GAY MENTOR. COME ON. ROBIN AND MIKE FRIENDSHIP!!!!!
hopclair. elumax gang it has been confirmed for season five this is hOW WE CAN STILLL WIN--
14- Which romance are you indifferent too or just hate? (Fanon and canon)
y'all know my feelings on like, stncy, mlvn, hrringrove, stddie, but idk if there's many im actually indifferent to. i mean, kind of rockie at the moment (just because they haven't fleshed vickie out at all, once she gets a personality and more screentime i think they'll be really cute), probably like, steve/argyle, jon/argyle, + all the chrissy ships. like, im not sure about that, but you could probably convince me. im open to it. stargyle is a pretty ship name though.
18- Which season of st do you think had the best balance between character dynamics/character growth and plot line ?
oh season two for sure. hop/el bonding, byler centric, lumax + dustin + steve, jancy teamup, it was just great with the pairings. the plots were also the best balanced. good job s2. ily.

could you talk some more about why you think s3 and 4 are some of the worst written tw
Hoo boy there's a lot. Off the top of my head:
Bottom line their biggest problem is they completely overstuffed the show with way too many characters and locations. This is a basic problem that feeds into so many other problems like the pacing being thrown off (remember how smoothly they cut between different plotlines in s1?) and several characters (mainly Jonathan, Mike, Will) being completely sidelined.
In s3 they focused more on memes (Scoops Troop, Alexei etc) than anything else.
In s1 character moments and character development drove the whole season. Now the character moments we get is only crumbs. As for character development, Steve from s3 and on has been reduced to nothing but a walking meme, Jonathan is completely sidelined, Nancy gets some badass moments but they screw her over by tying her up in the mindnumbingly dumb love triangle writing. If they make Stancy happen in s5 they'll have completely walked back any and all character development for three characters.
Further, especially in s3 think several characters acted very out of character. Like some of the stuff Nancy said to Jonathan when they fought in the car came off as very OOC to me (the Oliver Twist dig etc). Dustin is nothing like the sweet smart boy in s1 who kept the peace and cared more about the party all being friends than anything. But most of all, I hated Hopper in s3, how mean and cruel he was to Mike, Joyce, El. Go back and watch s1, he's so much softer. Also ridiculous that he doesn't flat out believe Joyce right away in s3 after s1-2, esp since he comes around to believing Joyce easier than you think in s1. Also his letter voiceover end of s3 that was supposed to be emotional was just trash.
They can't write relationships for shit. Once a ship is canon all the writers can think to do is "let's have them fight and break up!" which is so cheap and dumb.
The spoopy Russians in s3 and that whole plot was so lame, over the top and bad. It was completely unbelievable (yes it's a show where monsters are real but that doesn't mean the human stuff doesn't have to make sense. The realistic human storylines in s1 was what made the monster stuff work so well against it), incomprehensible and just *so* hokey.
They had a full on Coke commercial in an s3 scene. Yes product placement has been part of the show since s1 but the New Coke scene was another level, completely shameless.
The Never Ending Story musical number broke the Geneva Convention and should be investigated and prosecuted as a crime against humanity.
In s3 they give so much screentime to Billy and give his racist abusive ass a sort of redemption by the end.
In s4 they waste soooooo much screentime on the incredibly one note Jason the jock character while the likes of Mike, Will, Jonathan don't get anytime at all. They're not even in ep 7 and spend the climactic fight watching from the sidelines.
The Byers move makes no sense.
They completely don't give a shit about the Byers family anymore when for me and many other viewers they were the emotional heart of s1. It all started and ended with them. In s3 Jonathan and Will are in the same plot line for a bunch of time but we don't get any Byers bros stuff even then, and at the end of the season we don't even get a family hug, Joyce just hugs Will even though Jonathan is there too (and the Duffers told Winona there "was no time" for her to hug both her sons...) In s4 Joyce abandons her kids to go off on her Hopper rescue mission. We get the Jonathan and Will talk and hug which was great (and completely shocking to all of us that they allowed for that) and a family hug at the end but like... please let Jonathan and Joyce talk at some point?
Nancy and Mike spent a lot of time in s3 in the same plot too but we didn't get any sibling bonding between them.
They straight up just abandoned Will's arc halfway through s3. In s4 they repeat the "Jancy has communication issues" which was their arc in s3, negating that s3 arc. And they refuse to complete the arc in s4 to drag the dead love triangle into s5.
The meat monster in s3 was a super lame monster and s4 revealing the big bad as Vecna aka edgelord 3000 I'm not a fan of.
The cgi looks so bad. Vecna being tossed into the UD/whatever that place is in s4e7 takes the cake.
Them retconning so much of s1 in s4 is trash writing.
The s4 scene of El being bullied at the roller rink was really bad, like completely over the top and hokey.
Overall I'm not a fan of the direction they've taken the overarching plot in, with the spoopy Russian, Vecna etc.
Them repeating the same seasonal structure year after year is so boring. Separate cold open. Checking in on all the characters going about their lives. Supernatural stuff slowly starting to happen. Everyone being split up into different plot lines. Plot lines converging towards the end. El fights the monster of the season. Aftermath epilogue. Rinse and repeat.
The human threat of the US government makes no sense anymore. Owens and his super loyal agent men being some sort of good guys for no motivation, the spoopy Russians being set up as more evil than the Good Americans, together with the Bad Americans now being some army branch it's all just... what happened to s1?
They make cheap, dumb and so easily avoided mistakes like forgetting Will's birthday, having the cops interrogating El (a minor) without a guardian present etc yes these may seem like small things but there's so many small little mistakes like these.
They don't have a script supervisor, the Duffers openly admit they don't watch the previous seasons. Which explains a lot of why later seasons don't make sense with earlier ones.
Basically I just think it's like a completely different show compared to s1, and the writing is the main cause of it. Go back and watch s1 and see how the plot develops organically, character driven, at such a nice pace, Will and Barb going missing and El being found setting everything off and then it's all driven by the characters growing and developing and they cut between all the plot lines perfectly before they all dovetail nicely at the end. Compare it to s3 and s4 and it's just like night and day.

Ahh cannot believe we’re nearing the end of the curse reverse fic!! Truly wild the passage of time, and also all the twist you threw in. I for one, am very curious as to how everything will shake out in the s3 rewrite since Things Are Not The Same, But Still a Little Bit The Same. Also I love how you give each group equal emotional weight (Dustin and mike!! Robin and Barb!! Joyce and Hopper and Bob!!) (also I love the way you capture that everyone is messy in their own way and that no one is perfect and also Nancy and Jonathan are an innately messy couple, bc I feel like the fandom does not account for the fact that they absolutely are the drama) Anywho! Very excited for tomorrow’s chapter!! I’m considering it a belated bday surprise and rooting for some fun hijinks. I may even treat myself and reread some road goes ever on bc Monster Steve, my beloved.
The end is too close and I am not prepared! (Well. I'm mostly prepared. Sort of.)
It's funny you should mention All The Twists, because I feel like this second fic (put your curse in reverse) sticks the closest to canon out of the three fics I've got written or planned in the series. It's possible I've just been too close to it for too long. I will say this though (and may have already said it once before, but shhh), I've made some major overhauls to the plot of season 3. I have a plan and I am tapping the pads of my little raccoon fingers against each other in evil glee about eventually getting to share it. Now to finish writing the darn thing...
I'm so, so glad to hear that the groups feel balanced, emotionally! One of the things I hate most in writing is when you have a clear set of "A" Characters, who Matter, and then a clear set of "B" Characters, who Don't Matter As Much And Are Mostly Here To Be A Punchline. I love all of these idiots and I want to give them all the kind of storytelling they deserve. And even if I don't necessarily like every character on this show (*coughcoughMurraycough*), somebody out there does, and thinks one of my very favourite characters is just the worst and wishes they'd drop off the face of the earth.
(And, you know, there have been times when trying to be fair to a character I have no particular feeling toward or even dislike, in my writing, has led to me finding a new appreciation for them. And...also, sometimes, accidentally convincing myself to ship them. You will not find any fic for Murray Bauman/Sam Owens on AO3, I'm sure, because I have not written it yet...but oh my god. You guys. Have you thought about how much potential for both hilarity and angst this pairing could have? Because I have. Against my will.)
Speaking of "A" Characters and "B" Characters, part of that dichotomy that I've noticed is that "A" Characters aren't allowed to fuck up. They're always ultimately proven right. Or, if they do do something wrong, it's always because they were given the wrong information, or intentionally misled, or someone else forced them into it. They never just...make a bad decision, or miss a shot, or act on a negative emotion and do something stupid they'll regret, or just plain trip and fall on their face. And "B" Characters basically can't not fuck up. They're there entirely to cause the problems that the "A" Characters have to solve, and then go 'oh the cleverness of you' at the "A" Characters. This is my least favourite kind of storytelling, and if you want to see a textbook example of it in the wild, just watch Thor: The Dark World. (Except don't actually do that, because I wouldn't intentionally inflict that on anyone.)
The best and easiest way to break down the dichotomy between "A" Characters and "B" Characters and get characters who start to live and breathe and act like Actual Human People, in my experience, is to make sure that every single one of your characters is a bit stupid about something. Something that matters enough to come up, not, like, something that will never affect the story they're part of. And if you've created a character who can't take a pie to the face and continue to be interesting to read about, you're probably not there yet.
Anyway! Thank you for that opportunity to soapbox. That very long rant all to say: yes Jonathan and Nancy are messy as hell, and they're much more interesting that way. Happy belated(?) birthday, enjoy the hijinx, and an enthusiastic hell yes to Monster Steve!

volume 2 spoilers!
i was enjoying volume 1 (apart from the stancy bullshit) but volume 2 was just too sloppy. so many things didn't make sense. (this is just me rambling)
you can't tell me the kids + steve, nancy and robin didn't have any reaction to eddie dying. also why did he die, literally for nothing
i totally believe that steve dreams of having happy big family, i feel like it's natural for him to want that, but to be still stuck on nancy like that and dump all that on her??? what?? when they're down in the upside down and robin had just ran ahead alone????? what?????
whats up with the lack of steve and dustin scenes? the most popular duo? i understand dustin had eddie this season also but.. how did steve not show any concern for dustin besides that small scene of them outside of the upside down trailer??
steve is such a good character and i feel like they've just ruined him in these last two episodes.. they watered him down to a pining idiot for a girl that treated him like shit in the past. it's like his only character trait is like nancy and be a badass sometimes. i would love if we got to know more about him, his backstory, how he's dealing with all of the things happening, how responsible he feels for all the kids and how much he worries and i know for a fact i'm not the only one.
why didn't jonathan confess to nancy about his college troubles? nancy is mature enough to not be angry, to help him. i feel like keeping him lying to her will create a strain in their relatioship and i think this will lead them to break up in season 5, which okay, it's normal for people to grow apart, she will go to college, shes young she doesn't have to be stuck to someone she liked when she was a teen but im afraid they'll use their break up as a way for her to get back to steve (unless all the stancy this season 4 was for nothing), which i hate.
i get that steve is dreamy and kind and just generally an amazing guy but nancy getting back to him would be 1. erasing his character development, he learned season 3 to be single, to have friendships 2. nancy isn't at all the type of girl to just be a mom and have 366473848 kids, she wants to study, learn and work, and not that you can't do that with kids but... 3. why do we have to go back to the basic love triangle plot.. they're not teens having a normal life, i feel like they're mature enough to not have this type of drama (for the 2nd time)
i won't even get into will, mike and all that- mike is awfull, will deserves better from him and the writters.
i love max but why not kill her off at once why does she have to "be alive but not". do they plan to miraculously bring her back? (and erase all the tension and pain her death brings to the characters, watering down a death, erasing all the stakes, like they love to do so much)
also what happened to enzo and murray?
stranger things is so disappointing rip
#just rambling#this vol2 may have ruined st for me idk#i will watch the last season but just bc steve is a favorite of all time for me#stranger things#stranger things s4#st4 volume 2#st4#st4 spoilers#stranger things spoilers#stranger things 4 spoilers#steve harrington#will byers#eddie munson#nancy wheeler#stancy#max mayfield#jonathan byers#jancy
