I have honestly thought of this for a stupid long time. Given that Cindy is basically Cid’s baby girl and has been protective of her since she was born; more so after her parents’ parting. She is literally the only family he has left, so there’s some high level of protectiveness going on. Sure, he knows she can take care of herself and can no doubt put the hurt on someone if they step out of line, but still, he’s always going to be there for that added support in her corner. That being said, let's get to it. Also, you could ask Cid directly over at mastermechaniic ( totally not a shameless plug ) but it's cool x3 Hennyway...

Prompto:

I think right out of the gate, Cid would give Prompto a hard time, knowing from jump that he had a crush on Cindy. But it's mostly in a lighthearted "hazing" kinda way. Writing him opposite @battleshot is pretty fun as it seems Cid thrives on getting those nervous reactions out of him, it makes Prom seem more genuine in his eyes. He honestly thinks it's too wholesome for words and may also think Prom might not be able to handle a woman like Cindy ( We know this to be false as Prom is very capable owo ) but does see them as a good match.

Gladio: 

Ok tbh If Cid caught the way Gladdy was trying to flirt with Cindy the first time they met, on sight he'd snatch that boy up with the quickness. I think Gladio kinda reminds Cid of himself in his younger younger, and not in the most positive way. However, there's also that slight inner conflict given his connection and friendship with Clarus. Like, he knows Gladio is a good kid, that he's intelligent and would probably be as protective over Cindy as he is, but, ya know there's probably gonna be that "I'm watchin' you O.o" vibe for a little bit. And as I'm typing this, I'm not sure if I've really bugged @strictomiles with Paw-Paw yet.... should get on that XD

Ignis: 

Not as apprehensive as the rest of the boys. It’s safe to say that Iggy has garnered some brownie ( kinda pun kinda intended) points in the beginning. Knowing Ignis seems to be the more level-headed one out of the bunch ( also considering @tenebriism has occasionally.. I wouldn't say bribed Cid with desserts on Wire buuuuuut I'm not gonna say it's not a good strategy either >.> ) it puts his mind more at ease in a way. Also given how dedicated they both are to their professions, and how they carry that level of loyalty and drive, to him it just makes sense when it happens. But Iggy's still gonna get the talk cause everyone gets the talk x3

All in all, the main takeaway is while he knows Cindy can handle her own relationships, both the good and bad that come with it. What he is more hesitant about with the Chocobros is the consideration of their fealty to the crown. Working for the Lucian House in the past, knowing the path they're on and the sacrifices they might have to make, including the possibility of them dying in service to it. I think that's the kind of pain he doesn't wish Cindy to go through again. However, it does give him some comfort knowing there could be someone for Cindy when he himself has to leave her.

so you know how zeff says to sanji “you can walk right back into the ocean for all i care” after sanji threatens to walk? yeah i think about that line a lot and specifically the way zeff says back. he doesn’t just say sanji can walk into the ocean, he says he can walk back into the ocean. it’s such a simple distinction but it holds so much meaning because, for all intents and purposes, sanji came from the ocean, from that storm and that rock. that single word signifies that whatever happened before, whatever sanjis life was before, doesn’t matter to zeff and it never will because well, why would it? zeff doesn’t give a damn about his past, for all he cares this kid and responsibility for him was chucked at him by the waves of that storm 9 years ago and that was that. and as for sanji? yeah it’s even more meaningful. in his own words: “13 years ago, vinsmoke sanji escaped the kingdom of germa and died at sea”. vinsmoke sanji died and the person he is now, the one who was shaped by zeffs guidance was born. the sanji we see really did come from the ocean, from a random part of the east blue that carried the ship that took him away from germa. it was because of that ocean and that ship that he was able to live the life he deserved and be the man he was supposed to be.

Mikey and Leo episode centered around Mikey wanting to push Leo and Draxum together since Leo’s the most reluctant to give Draxum any grace (for good reason!) But, thinking on the spot, Leo says he’s gotta go do something for Hueso and “just can’t hang out right now 😔” (yes, he says the emoji out loud.)

Mikey calls his bluff and now the three of them (Mikey having grabbed a weary Draxum along) go to Hueso’s to find that yes, he actually does have a job for him. Said job asks for Leo to go with Hueso to deliver multiple pizzas to this giant yokai quite a distance away, and Hueso figured it would probably go better with Leo’s help (emphasis on probably.)

Well, Mikey decides that this would be a great bonding opportunity for them and basically invites he and Draxum along. Unfortunately for Leo, Hueso doesn’t care enough to wave away more help, though he does side-eye the wanted criminal Baron Draxum coming with them. But who is he to judge? (This choice has consequences.)

The journey goes about as terribly as you’d expect, but at least the pizzas get delivered on time.

actually it is funny to think about some travelling falconer wandering around with a king harpy who is 100% most definitely the one running the show, who thinks the falconer is like. a fun accessory to show off to others/a mouthpiece to communicate through.

i should explain more about village vs travelling falconers in the ama plains region but the gist is that large villages are usually very wealthy and very well-defended because otherwise they would not exist. crawling beasts are drawn to high population density after all - towns are rare and more like fortresses than what you're likely imagining

consider the bastion fort as a model for what a large ama town might look like (in a less temperate climate):

in some of the larger ones, the 'moat' is actually a continuous firepit which provides passive defence through the night, but the upkeep is insanely costly

anyway the towns here need defending nightly. there are constant waves of enemies it's like the most boring level of a video game, 100% of the time, 365 days a year. those in charge of the town's defence are very selective with their harpies and falconers. the harpies usually breed in the town with occasional input from wild-sourced eggs to keep bloodlines good. the falconers are either former travelling falconers with high accolades looking to settle down, or trained from a very young age in the mews. they're extremely elitist about their falconry techniques and training methods.

for small settlements, they can't afford their own dedicated defence. the resources to supply a harpy flock would be very intensive. that's where we get monster tamers like ambrose who are, for the most part, charlatans who promise they can defend a town with their barely-socialised monsters. travelling falconers fall into this category - it's usually one guy and one harpy who may or may not have been kidnapped as an egg, travelling around and offering budget defence against crawling beasties. falconers are thought to be a little more trustworthy than most because there is the possibility of promotion - if they make a name for themselves and do well, they could be offered a position in a town mews which is by all accounts a cushy job.

but their lives otherwise are very rough. long hours on the road in between spread-out population centres, just yourself and the harpy you probably love and trust but also continuously neglect.
