“please, just this once!” eijiro begged his friend. “go to hell,” katsuki sounded very decisive about it. his friend was trying to set him up with someone once again, failing of course. “plus, i’m busy with work,” he added in a gruff tone. he finished putting his jacket on and sighed, noticing it was time to go to work. “that’s just an excuse, you finish working around 9,” denki received a glare as an answer and that was enough to shut him up.

working as a delivery man was a pain in the ass sometimes, the majority of people he met were all shitty customers who always complained about him being late and stuff like that, but in reality, katsuki was very dedicated anyway and delivered everything with care, as quickly as possible.

that’s basically how he found himself standing outside your apartment door. he huffed when after his third time knocking no one was coming to open the door.

katsuki was able to hear a loud voice before the door finally opened. there was a boy standing in front of him, visibly annoyed.

“how much?” he spat, already opening his wallet. “hah, sorry man. i have to delivery this to…” katsuki then glanced down at the name on the post it, calling out your name. “fine. i’m not paying for any of this shit anyway. [y/n]!” he muttered before barking out your name, making bakugo cringe at his manners.

you rushed to the door, trying to fix the t-shirt you just finished putting on. your cheeks were warmer since you felt a hint of embarrassment because of your boyfriend’s behaviour.

“hi, sorry. how much is it?” you asked in a much gentle and softer tone, offering katsuki a smile. he found himself staring at your face for a couple of seconds more, admiring your features before he blushed and looked down, trying to hide his red face. “it’s uh, 10$,” he said, glancing at your hands moving to retrieve the money. “right… here!” you payed and took the small bag and pizza from his hands, his eyes unable to leave your face.

“um, enjoy your meal,” katsuki said then, nodding at you. “thank you so much,” you smiled at him sweetly before closing the door.

the fuck just happened?

your sweet smile and your eyes never left bakugo’s head. he found himself still thinking about you, and a part of him hoped he would have the possibility to deliver you something else in the near future.

the rational part of him knew that you had a boyfriend — a shitty one, if he were honest, but the egoistic part of him hoped you would break up, he was a douche anyway, right?

that wasn’t the point anyway, as long as he was able to see you that would do. for now.

his inner desire to see you again was easily satisfied around two weeks later.

he cleared his throat and knocked on your door, a strange feeling of excitement filling his guts as he waited for you to open the door.

when you finally showed up, you were wearing a sweater and a pair of shorts. he gulped down and tried to focus on only your words, as if ignoring your face would be possible.

“oh um, you’re the guy from the last time… thank you for your quick service,” your words caused his heart to flutter while katsuki quietly stared at you. “10$,” he spat, before cringing in his mind. “okay…” you rummaged through your wallet and then payed, retrieving your food from his hands.

in that moment your soft skin touched that of katsuki, who felt as if electricity just travelled through his body. his mind going blank for a moment before he realised you were talking.

“s-sorry, what was that?” he definitely blushed now and you found it adorable. “i said thank you, bakugo-san,” you pointed at the small name tag attached to his jacket on the front, making him nod then. “no problem, enjoy your meal,” he said as he always does after delivering the food. his eyes lingered on your sweet face for a moment longer before he turned around to walk away, embarrassed enough.

you chuckled while closing the door, finding bakugo adorable for some reason.

you saw bakugo again, and again, and again. you always tried to make small conversations, like speaking about how it was freezing outside and he was out there working anyway for example. but bakugo always kept his words short, probably because he was busy and didn’t have the time to stay outside your door to talk.

a part of bakugo wanted to push him to ask for your number or something, but another suggested that you were just kind because he was a delivery man, delivering the food you ordered — it was the least you could do, right?

on the other hand, you found him attractive and surprisingly he didn’t seem like a jerk. you recently broke up with your now ex boyfriend, convinced by your friends that he was too toxic and that it would only become harder and harder to get out of his grasp.

after a month of trying to avoid calling and getting your food delivered, as you tried to forget bakugo and focus on your life, you found yourself putting down the phone after placing a new order. you sighed and glanced at your friends sitting on your couch, chatting lively.

“you held back from calling because you were trying to avoid the delivery man?” momo glanced at you, more in a surprising way. mina was clearly judging you though. “no, it’s just that i tried to spend less on delivered food,” you casually shrugged, avoiding their eyes. “alright, but what if he’s still working there? like, would you say something more or just pay and say bye?” kyoka asked then, making your heart skip a beat.

“w-what?! of course i would simply do that,” you felt your cheeks warming up and momo chuckled, seeing through you. “you don’t have to feel bad about finding another man interesting, y’know? it’s not cheating or anything,” she said then, her voice was soft and soothing. “momo’s right! plus, no one said you have to marry this delivery man,” mina patted your shoulder in encouragement.

your friends were right, you shouldn’t feel bad.

“i wanna see him though, can i open the door?” kyoka begged, making everyone laugh. “of course you can’t,” momo said between laughters.

you were interrupted by the doorbell and you literally jumped on your feet, an anxious feeling growing in your chest. mina noticed and pushed your wallet into your hands before rushing you to open the door.

you took a deep breath and opened it, preparing yourself to meet bakugo’s face. your growing smile suddenly fell when you met a redhead boy standing outside your door.

“oh, hello! you’re [y/n], right?” he asked in a cheerful tone, smiling. “y-yeah,” you nodded, a bit taken aback.

did bakugo really stopped working there?

“alright, then these are yours!” kirishima smiled even more. “it’s 16$, miss,” he informed you and you nodded. you gave him the money and took the pizzas from his hands, thanking him with a smile. “enjoy your meal!” kirishima waved at you before turning to leave.

“uh, wait!” you called for him, biting your lips. “is um… bakugo-san still working there?” you found the courage to ask him, pushing the feeling of embarrassment aside. “oh, kacchan? yeah! but he caught a cold, so i offered to cover him at work. a common friend owns the place, so…” he explained with a genuine smile, as a sense of relief filled your chest, your heart beating fast. “right, i see. thank you,” you smiled at the redhead, he nodded and then waved at you.

your friends heard the whole conversation and started cheering you on, promising that you would be able to see him again very soon. they also convinced you to call again in a couple of days and hope you would see this bakugo guy again.

you were sitting on the couch while fidgeting with your fingers, an anxious feeling growing in your belly as you waited for your dinner to arrive. well, more like for bakugo to arrive.

you felt stupid for a moment, you were a grown up not a teenager anymore. why were you acting like a middle schooler who has to meet her crush? that’s very, very stupid of you.

what if he doesn’t like you at all?

you jumped in your seat as you heard the doorbell and basically rushed to the door to open it, almost tripping over you feet.

there he was.

bakugo turned his head to look at you and noticed how nervous you were. “h-hello,” you gripped the doorknob tightly as you swiftly checked him out, before meeting his vermilion eyes. “is everything alright?” katsuki found himself asking, tilting his head to the side as to study you. “yeah, no. i mean, yes!” you covered your face with your hands, sighing deeply as you felt like your heart was about to jump out of your chest and run away to hide. you should be the one hiding somewhere in shame.

katsuki smirked and pulled his hat lower, trying to cover the growing blush on his face. he thought you looked cute, all flustered for some reason.

“so… the usual,” he said then, gulping down. he was here to deliver you a pizza after all, not to make conversations. “uhh,” you tapped your pockets for the wallet and a fresh sense of embarrassment filled you as you realised you forgotten the wallet in the kitchen. “w-wait, okay… i’ll be right back,” you glanced at his face and then turned around, running to the kitchen.

katsuki took a deep breath and bit his lip, trying to muster some courage to ask if you wanted to go out with him sometime.

you gripped the wallet in your hands and closed your eyes, praying to stop being clumsy and embarrassing and actually succeeding in asking him for his number. you then quickly went back to the door and cleared your throat.

katsuki watched closely your every action, as his heart started beating faster and faster as the moment to leave approached.

it’s now or never.

“listen, i think that–” “can we exchange ph–”

you two stopped talking and simply stared at each other for a couple of seconds before averting your eyes, your cheeks growing hot as katsuki’s whole face turned red. katsuki mentally kicked himself and then cleared his throat.

“what was it you were tryin’ to ask?” his eyes searched for yours, even though you were too busy staring at your feet. “i thought maybe… we can exchange uh, phone numbers?” you asked timidly as your fingers tortured your old wallet due to your nervousness.

bakugo fought himself from reaching for them and stop you and simply nodded, feeling a sense of relief. “yeah, sure,” he offered you his phone and watched you saving your own contact and send yourself a message.

“alright, here’s your dinner,” he said as he retrieved his phone with a hand and giving you the pizza with the other. you nodded and then handed him the money too.

“thank you as always for your service. please take care, it’s pretty windy outside,” you timidly said, holding his gaze for a couple of seconds before looking away again. bakugo blushed and cleared his throat before nodding. “ah, ri– thanks, enjoy your meal.”

you closed the door and pushed out all the air in your lungs, as you could finally relax. you walked over the kitchen before realising he was about to say something too, but you didn’t asked to continue too.

a notification from your phone caught your attention and you reached for it, opening the messages app.

how abt friday at 7 pm ?

you smiled as you looked down at the message, feeling a warm feeling filling your body. your fingers moved quickly over the screen to type out your reply to bakugo’s message.

And you know what? I was gonna keep this a secret, but just for you I’m gonna yap and spill a little about the Style engagement-

So a lot of the au in general revolves around a “do it now because you never know what could happen later” dynamic. Everyone is unwell and health is a very fragile thing.

The actual engagement happens when they’re 24. I wrote their entire relationship to be built heavily on puppy love (ahaha get it? I’m so funny). Both boys would literally do anything for each other. Stan is the one to propose and it’s at this really fancy restaurant which is kinda awkward since it’s during a period where eating as a concept is just fucking Kyle over. This is not that big of an issue for Stan though, he’s just freaking out over purposing in general.

I should also mention that this takes place during round two of dogs. Stan’s SDiT is a Rottweiler and her name is Saffi, Kyle’s is an Australian Shepherd named Pallas (Greek/Greek mythology themed names bc I’m insane and can’t stop😔)

Stanley, oml this boy really almost has a panic attack over this as if he doesn’t know that they’d both die rather than not be with each other. He is just completely shocked when he pops the question and Kyle says yes.

They are so giddy and stupid in love on the car ride back to their apartment. Kyle keeps looking at the ring (their initials are engraved on it and he’s about to sob). Stan is over the moon, he’s so excited about getting to marry Kyle. And they kiss-

Strange, I have always thought it was spelled as Wasayago. But recently I've realized, I can't read very well.

I want to send appreciation today, to you.

You've taught me a lot about art. You've taught me a lot how to draw certain things, and you have opened my eyes to new perspective of art, ever since I started following you. Colours are brighter, I experiment more, I can see a specter of visuals that was previously hidden from me. It's like gaining shrimp colors.

Your art feels like an art classroom. There's sun pouring in from the windows, and there's tree leaves in front of them. Every time you come in you see different art projects. Paints add on to the tables, that will never scrub off again. There's dirty cups with paint water, and brushes, in the sink. It's lunch break, and there's people here. Some are just doing their math homework right before class, some are working on their sculpture, some are picking out paints, some are working on their new piece, on a fresh canvas. And it is so alive.

Your art feels so alive. Like the leaves, the people, the stains. It's really nice to see, every single time you post, how lovingly you bring a character into the world (My favorite so far is that one doodle of Modern au Gillion eating noodles, I have it in my favorites gallery).

I would like to see some unfinished, maybe forever to be so, doodles that you weren't especially proud of. We'll love it all.

im happy to know that you feel this way about my art, and im glad i could help you with some advice! it feels a bit weird to show unfinished or scrapped art under such a nice message, but yeah why not. and its funny that you mentioned the gillion eating noodles one, because its also one of the pieces that i really didn't like and didn't want to post hdgsh. i dont have that many unfinished drawings left because i delete or redraw most of them, but i have a couple that might be fun to share... and i guess it's gonna be a long post bc i wanna tell a little about each one or at least name them.

there's this art of chip, the first time i properly tried to figure out a way to draw him back when i just started listening. redrew this piece later, kept the sketch on the left, but the right one i changed completely because i didn't like the vibe this one has.

there's this attempt at redesigning caspian after i found out he was a water genasi, plus the first version of that art of caspian, pretzel and gill. this design didn't feel "caspian" enough, it looked too soft and kind where i wanted him to be more layed back and chill and sarcastic and with a bit of an edge. redrew both pieces later. the underwater drawing also has an unfinished background in this version, i added some fishies later so it didn't feel that empty.

some random sketch of gillion to show off how the lightning scars look on his face and neck. i quite like it, but it didn't really fit in the post with three proper drawings and one sketch so i decided to scrap it.

there's this drawing where i tried to figure out how the capital of the undersea looked like. i really didn't know where i was going with it and didn't have a good idea when i started drawing, so its a mess of things with nothing to really focus on. i tried to add a character on it later to breathe some life into it, but it didn't work out since i didn't focus it on the character from the beginning. plus i don't like how the colors turned out, and the entire concept of the environment feels weak and boring to me. i still want to draw more concepts of the undersea and try a couple other ideas, but probably at a later date...

the first version of whatever try it was to design gill's armor. (fun fact, i have more armor designs scheduled for tomorrow). this one i redrew almost immediately, i really didn't like how it turned out and how the legs were cut off and it looked so messy with no real accent point or personality. plus the smaller copy of the drawing in the corner just didn't look good. im not exactly proud of the redrawn version either (that's why i did another one yesterday lol), but im glad i redrew it anyway, it looks a lot better than this one.

the first sketch of that one gillion drawing. i couldn't figure out the colors for it for so long and wanted to drop the idea entirely. but i left it to sit for a couple hours and eventually got the motivation to come back to it and finish it. for most of the illustration pieces i did for jrwi there were multiple versions, where i just didn't like the first one and redrew the whole thing with a different composition and colors. didn't save any of those drawings tho...

this drawing of jay but with green wings and a slightly different color shirt. it was actually the first version of this drawing, and i changed the colors to blue later. wanted to post both of them side by side but then decided against it. that's why this drawing survived and was properly saved and not just deleted.

more recent attempts at designing the chaingel. i like the concept, and the pose in the second sketch is pretty badass, but the execution is just not there. it doesn't feel right, doesn't have the right kind of vibe that this character gives off. so im sure i will try and draw her later when i figure out what's missing and how to show her personality in the way it feels in my head. but these two sketches were never going to see the light of day, so now they're here.

aand this is it, this is everything that wasn't deleted in the past month for one or another reason. i feel like im more chill with deleting and redrawing things, so a lot of initial sketches and concepts never get saved or seen by anyone. im also on mobile so i can attach only ten files lol. not that it matters, the last two were just random figure drawings for warm up, not much to talk about.

Leaving Wally with no face sewed in - Wally is the face of welcome home. His smile and eyes are iconic. He may not be able to see. But wally can sure hear well. Also home is incomplete and not safe to be in. (Cue, Wally falling through holes in his floor everyday)

Eddie is missing his arms. Bc he uses it to carry packages and things. However he makes up for it with his legs bc he runs/a mailman and relies on his legs to get to designated destinations.

Howdy ...was originally going to be missing most of his arms. I later changed it so he has two heads and more arms. Combining his earlier concepts together instead of taking away. His is technically in a way not missing anything so he doesn't hunt for spare parts.

Barnaby doesn't have a mouth either like Julie. Meaning he can't do jokes. He's morbid and less friendly. He talks via through a puppet that he made from a scrap piece of fabric.

Frank is missing an arm Because he gardens a lot. Frank is frankly far from being complete. On surface level he may seem closer than most to perfection but he lacks the cotton insides like the rest of the neighbors. His love for bugs has unfortunately added into his incompleteness.

Julie tried replacing his bugs with flowers but the bugs ate them

Julie can't speak, because her ability is to talk to flowers. This leads to her being down in the dumps a lot. She doing way better off than her siblings however.

Sally is missing her rays. Making her incomplete and not special. She says in dark areas for the most part.

Poppy doesn't have wings meaning can't bake and hug people (Poppy is probably the most colorful one ngl/pos) she also has rows and rows of SHARP teeth.

this AU IS dangerous to go in, because all the puppets are going a little wacky trying to rip off the limbs they need off of the people that go in

and since one body only has so much on them (that being only one mouth 2 limbs etc...) they all fight with each other to claim the parts

2. do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?

in my early fic-writing days of 2017/2018 i had concepts which i felt were best suited to multi-chapter works but, once i got writing, i either lost momentum/enthusiasm/didn’t have a solid plan or structure, so i’ve kept to oneshots and, as part of this, i tend more to write as i go. however, sometimes for a particular concept i have a strong idea of a couple of key scenes so will write them out briefly first before i return and deal with them sequentially

7. how do you choose which pov to write from?

it’s usually sometimes i either feel a particular pov is the one best suited to a particular fic or the fic exists because i want to get in a particular character’s headspace. like, in maternal instincts, i wanted to look at a genderqueer thomas specifically so had to do it from his pov (which was fun!), then in he has stood the test, jirv’s dead when the fic starts, so it similarly had to be from malcolm’s pov. though, i have noticed that, despite my love for him, i haven’t published a fic that centres on ned’s pov so i’m making a direct effort to rectify that!

15. how do you write smut scenes? do you get visual or detailed? how important is it to be realistic?

for me it comes down to what i like reading in smut! i think it’s hot when specifics like body sweat/hair/muscle aches are described so i always try and include at least some of that. generally, i think as a writer i tend to prioritise dialogue so i always include some sort of dirty talk. in terms of realism, i think it can be hot to get into the specifics of stretches/aches, especially when writing about penetrative sex; i’m also a convert to the inherent sexiness of bad/mid sex so in terms of that (i.e. moments of discomfort, first times, being sore afterwards) i like writing in. but on the whole i don’t really get bogged down with realism in regard to, like, good bdsm practice or the use of condoms/other contraceptives. also i write a good bit of breeding kink so don’t usually highlight birth control there! also i don’t pay that much mind to types of lube in smut fic. is spit ideal? no. is it sexy? very!

25. what fic do you wish you got more of a response on?

all of them. i’m gagging for validation and praise. but seriously, probably scenes from a marriage i think? i put a lot of work into the whole maternal instincts series and sfam has the misfortunate of being written a good bit later on the other two, but it’s also Way more substantive, i think, than hunger pains which is more popular. i also have a couple of really new terror fics, shoulder to tender shoulder and he has stood the test, but they’re only a week old so it’s probably not fair to compare them with stuff i’ve had out for longer. there’s a couple of other fics i’ve written for the silmarillion fandom but i think my terror fics are better written? probably because they’re newer. oh! also borne through the clouds, for any hotd enjoyers. i wanted to do a bit of an introspective piece for helaena and her grief, focusing on her bond with dreamfyre but, especially considering my other two hotd works, the girlies did Not like it as much! possibly because it focused on helaena and not aemond but what can you do

31. do you start with the characters or the plot when writing

probably the characters i think? i usually have a scene or an exchange i see very vividly that i write down and go from there and, while it usually revolves around a particular au/plot/conflict, i think i tend to prioritise the characters in fic because i enjoy writing dialogue and examining dynamics/relationship

What’s a headcanon you can’t stop thinking about? i have a very specific headcanon for a tattoo ian gets post-canon for mickey, and i hesitate to even explain it now bc i think one day i do wanna write a fic about him getting it, but whatever--my headcanon is that he gets an M tattooed on his left ring finger and it's a subtle yet sweet nod to his husband. (i could talk about this for 9 hours but i will limit myself and stop here)

What’s a fanart you love looking at? i've spent an obscene amount of time staring at this fanart by @doodlevich it just checks all my boxes (domestic, husbands, fluff, etc.) and it's so well done, i'm obsessed with this pieces

What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration? listen, i have this idea for a rock band au that lives rent fucking free in my head, and if i can find the time and the inspiration to actually turn these vibes and unorganized plot points into actual words and a coherent story in the new year, then maybe it'll see the light of day in 2024 but no promises. for now, i leave you with this: four milkovich siblings are in a rock band that is rising to success with the launch of their second studio album and subsequent tour, and ian gallagher is lead singer mandy's (fake) boyfriend--at least in the eyes of the public--and he spends some time that summer touring with the band and hooking up with their lead guitarist in secret until the band's manager/father catches wind of what's going on behind closed doors

Something else? i've always been a post-canon enthusiast for almost all of my ships, but i think before gallavich i always envisioned them with a very cookie cutter standard american dream family with the house and the careers and the 2.5 kids, which usually fits a lot of my ships, but with gallavich i... don't have that same vision ?? i think they're actually my first ship that i hc more often than not without kids in their post canon life, which is a new vibe for me entirely but i kinda love reading/writing it. idk if that answers the question you asked, but it definitely answered a question

What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of? honestly i want more s9/10 prison era gallavich fics (and/or fanart). i think it's a gold mine era with so much untapped potential, and there are very few fics/series/whatever that really get deep with it and get to the good stuff of these two boys who haven't spent any significant time together in years but still love each other like they did way back when

What’s your favourite season? And has this changed after multiple rewatches of the show? it flip-flops for me between s4 and s5, like right now i think it's s5 but idk if i could actually pick one or the other as my absolute favorite

What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough? personally i think the promise ring scene in 10x09 is criminally underrated and not talked about nearly enough, like you don't understand how happy that scene made me (stay with me here) seeing mickey stand up and fight for the future he really wants with ian and not settling for anything less

What line/dialogue/description from something else (a poem, a book, a tv show, a movie, or something else) do you feel describes Ian and Mickey’s relationship? can i do song lyrics? i'm gonna do song lyrics--i've always thought the song godlight by noah kahan was very gallavich, especially the chorus, and especially during s4/5/6 era and it may or may not be a piece of inspiration for my big bang canon divergent fic

thoughts on inktober/drawtober as someone who just finished it without missing a single day

it's fucking exhausting.

okay but for real here are my complete thoughts:

overview of my experience:

firstly, the way i approached this drawtober challenge was a bit chaotic bc i was trying to do a dbh drawtober here while also maintaining an inktober challenge on my other art blog. keep in mind, this was my first time trying a month-long daily art challenge type thing. so very ambitious (and a little stupid) to try to do two at the same time. for awhile, i was able to maintain it. i hadn't missed a day for dbh drawtober while for my inktober i had only missed 3 days by day 20. but i was starting to really feel the exhaustion at that point and dropped the inktober prompt after day 20 completely. i just focused on dbh for the last 11 days.

i did not prep anything in advance. though the first couple days i kinda started brainstorming ideas for the rest of the month. some days i would work on future prompts if i had extra time. some prompts fit for unfinished wips from september. but largely i was producing new art the day the prompt was due.

i haven't drawn this much in literal years. so my art was rapidly changing as i was figuring out my style and my brain was just raring to come up with ideas. which presented a problem later in the month when i had all these complex ideas i wanted to execute. instead of keeping the drawings simple and achievable to finish in a couple hours, i wanted to create pieces that would take days for a prompt due the next day. it was impossible. my desire to execute complex pieces conflicted with the strict daily turnaround.

by the end of the month i was sleep-deprived trying to finish works. a couple times i had to stop working on the piece because i realized i wouldn't finish in time. and then i would have to start a new one with a simpler idea and post a messy sketch with some color thrown on. towards the end i posted some of them late.

overall, it was a tiring experience.

what i liked about it:

i really liked coming up with ideas based off the prompts. it was fun having a guide for my art. it helped me think creatively and think of aus and concepts i normally would not have. i felt encouraged to draw characters i normally don't and just really stimulated my creative juices.

what i hated about it:

it's exhausting!!!! especially if you are doing fully illustrated pieces and starting a new one every single day!!!! i felt like i couldn't take my time on anything. as soon as it was done i had to post it. a bunch of the stuff i look back and i'm like oh i wish i had time to fix those proportions. or i wish i could have rendered it out more. or that is not to the quality of standard i have for a piece but i had to post it cause deadline!!!! i was sleep deprived for most of the month trying to finish things!!!!

granted, if i just stuck with simple line drawings i probably could have been fine. but what's the point of purposely making quick and mediocre art????? i'm supposed to be inspired to create nice pieces so why would i purposely lower my standard just to finish a piece on time??????

the daily turnaround was a terrible grind and left me posting art i wasn't really super satisfied with or scrapping wips i wouldn't finish in time in favor of simpler pieces.

would i do it again?

hell no.

don't get me wrong. love the prompts! love that it encourages me to think differently and try different things. but i don't need to be pumping out art every day to get that benefit. i think a weekly challenge may be more up my alley. or something where i'm not drawing new pieces and immediately posting them every single fucking day. idk. anything but the daily grind for 31 consecutive days jfc.

final thoughts:

i understand there's a reason the original inktober was specifically for traditional artists working in ink. its easier to not get lost in the details and coloring when just using ink compared to digital art where things don't feel finished unless you render it out or clean it up.

i understand the original inktober was really meant for people feeling blocked and unmotivated. if you already are drawing everyday, this challenge can feel like a chore bc you won't be able to work on the wips you actually want to bc you're too busy working on your drawtober pieces. i have like 15 wips that i wasn't able to touch because of drawtober.

i think this challenge has a place for certain artists, but it's just not for me. at least not at this stage in my life.

sigh. anon i'm not publishing that bc i get the vibe you are kind of young, so i'm going sidestep and instead say:

the entire concept of June Egbert is a little fraught for a lot of reasons, and I am personally uncomfortable with it and don't see a lot of difference between that and JKR's Dumbledore Is Gay act of retroactive representation. Except that for me, it's a step worse because JKR, heinous though she is, might have even intended Dumbledore to be gay the whole time before Word Of God-ing it, but given how the June thing happened, I am pretty confident in saying Hussie did not.

And while I am genuinely very happy for people who take that concept and run with it, it is wholly a product of fanon and should not be mistaken for canon. Not because I'm a meanie trying to take away vitally needed trans rep from people, but because it needs to be clear that fans are doing all the work there, all the heavy lifting, all the actual creation and exploration of a trans female character.

What I aggressively side-eye is the assumption that June Egbert was legitimately canon because frankly Hussie didn't have the thoughtfulness or open-mindedness or intention. None of it came from them. So don't fucking give Hussie credit for your work.

The entire thing feels at best like fans having fun with a popular shared AU (good for them) but at worse feels like a gotcha to try and foment discourse with people who don't really dig that headcanon.

I frequently think about Austin Walker talking about the way marginalized groups start to view famine as a feast, how we have a tendency to attach ourselves to any and every morsel of representation we are offered and hold it aloft and... frankly sometimes tear it to pieces in our fervor. Because we are starving. We paradoxically both lower our standards and raise them to unattainable peaks because we are so fucking deprived that any and every instance of Ourselves we see in media has to account for everyone's hunger.

My point in this is that... genuinely, if you vibe with the June Egbert thing, that is awesome. But one: do not give Hussie credit for work he did not fucking do. And two: I personally think we deserve better examples of trans people. Like, I don't know, characters who are actually canonically trans and not Dumbledore'd later. And by corollary, three: someone not writing John as trans doesn't mean they are transphobic. As someone who really loves both reading and writing trans characters, the June headcanon makes me goddamn uncomfortable for a lot of reasons and I don't vibe with it. Have your fun and I will have mine.

franky has relatively weak natural psionics, and i think that in this au, instead of getting hit by a train, maybe it was a psionics-related accident.

i dont have any ideas for Chopper or Brook yet, given that they're less humanoid than everyone else. I have a few ideas for Jinbei but only vague concepts, since I haven't actually met him yet.

i also have some ace and vivi concepts though!

ace is mutated bronze (hes a very light brassy-bronze color rather than orange/brown) and vivi is violet :3

gosh, honestly?? this guy!!!!

like.. it's gotten zero attention, and i'm sure a fair amount of it is i made beshelar GINGER, but 1) i was a dingus and didn't account for the warm light brown i actually made his hair when i chose the filter i then laid over top of the piece and then i spaced out on fixing the issue and 2) god i have so many complaints about the concept of an entire nation of one single skin tone and one single hair color, so he can be GINGER if i WANT him to be ginger

and just. there's. four hands in this. there's FOUR HANDS and they all RIP, plus their facial expressions, plus the draping and design of cala's AU'd robe (in the pirate au, cala isn't an Athmaza, he's a hedge maza in the republic of pirates, so i wanted the robe to be more like a smock!!), the perspective on deret's right hand, the TEA CUP, and deret's scars and proportions, like!!!! idk, this is one of those drawings that grabbed me by the throat at like 10 at night and then i came out of a fugue state about an hour and a half later with undoubtedly the best anatomy i'd ever drawn (and arguably still some of the best, though it has its issues), plus the softness the idea of such an ecstatically happy, sleep-ruffled deret instills in me..... i just. am so in love with it still. weeping crying etc etc

as for ur question about the setting, i kind of get into the geographical setting some more in later chapters, but no this isn't an "on-earth" au. it's not necessarily in the GFFA, either. i am imagining it's the kind of story that could happen in "any" city so that's why i haven't given it a name. however, the "FDO" stands for the Federal District Orphanage, the Federal District being a district on the city-planet (ecumenopolis) of Coruscant (and where the Jedi Temple is!). outright calling the city "coruscant" is kind of a turn-off to me, though, so i'm just calling it "the city" and using generic names for streets, etc.

that said, starbucks and looney tunes and emoji and the black keys and walt whitman and brazilian jiu-jitsu and two-shot americanos and the concept of OSHA and calling one's calcaneal tendon "achilles" and teddy swims and .HEIC image files are also in this fic so it's not not an earth fic. LOL

While he could at least. It breaks him when Solar dies and there's nothing he can do about it. He's just so numb and hollow without a purpose and just rots in his cell for months (mostly Nexus's fault, who said he'd "take care of him" but he's a little bitch who just gave up the moment Ruin showed resistance and neglected him henceforth bc he was pissed at him anyways for killing Solar - also pissed at the fact that Ruin was dating solar prior to his death and doubly pissed that ruin then KILLED HIM???). Months later the someone goes down to check on them bc they're sus of Nexus (lunar) and finds the animatronic equivalent of a corpse. Nexus loses Ruin priveledges and a lot of his siblings trust for lying to them for months. And ofc Ruin's just like completely out of it and unwilling and he's very prone to self-harm for a while so someone always has to be with him. And when Nexus does earn Ruin priveledges that silly little virus is kicking in already and feeding his intrusive thoughts and he tortures Ruin for months 👍. Ofc someone finds out about this too and Nexus is booted the fuck to space while they go through panic mode because WHAT THE FUCK. Helios (Dark Sun) comes to retrieve him and that's more or less the last they hear of him for months.

Enter stage left Old Moon. Or just Moon for sake of ease. Ruin's become toxically attached to Nexus after months of being under his thumb and here's this person that looks and sounds almost exactly like his abuser. And it's really uncomfortable all around because Ruin is so fucking broken for a while and just not there mentally and skittish but also he's trailing after old Moon like a kicked dog because he doesn't know what else to do with himself. Consequentially they get to know each other, and become best friends ironically enough (Moon also goes out of his way to make sure he's easily distinguishable from Ruin's memories of Nexus, changing his wardrobe - nexus had horrible fashion taste anyways - his optics, his casing slightly. Making himself more him and less who Nexus was and less who he used to be. And it helps.)

Best friends turns into Ruin crushing on Moon. Because Moon is so much like Solar sometimes that it just hurts. But he's nervous as fuck and doesn't want to feel like he's betraying Solar (who he's still really attached to after like a year? Two years?) so he just keeps it to himself as best as he can (which is better than it should be because moon is really fucking socially stupid sometimes). But then they get Solar back (Moon brings him back for Ruin's sake, he really doesn't care about the 'consequences' and it's fairly easy for him since he's willing to use magic) and Solar encourages him to be open with Moon about how he feels. So he does. And they all have a happy fucking ending with lots of healing (except for Nexus, who comes back to the family sometime after Solar's back, and he feels like such a toxic piece of shit and so horrible about what he did now that the virus is gone that he willingly goes back to Helios).

The other is a little too explicit for me to really talk about on this blog (which is why it's under this cut). It can be wrapped up as more or less Monty brings back Old Moon (they quickly have a falling out over this when he finds out how Monty treated Nexus). He's like "man I'm actually kinda curious about this whole sex thing now that I've experienced death without getting laid" and it would be weird for him to fuck anyone he knows (since he literally only knows his family and Monty who's dating the chick that's supposed to be his sister (but he's literally never met her, the word feels weird when all he's ever had is Sun) and yeah it would be kinda weird if he fucked one of them. Hence, he defaults to the only other person (kind of) in their circle, Ruin. Because you can't have a falling out with someone who you never really knew to start with and hell if the amalgamated freak says no that's not sweat off his back, he's only mildly curious anyway. And then they slowly develop feelings (tm) for each other and start dating because they've found someone to be their equal (Nexus hates this so fucking much bc of course dark sun told him). Eventually, they get Nexus back and he's like Moon's lil brother bc we love them. And it's mostly a really sweet and fluffy au besides (besides the falling out between Moon and Monty because that is a very heated argument with lots of gaslighting and manipulation and threats).

Anyways, in both of these they're both on aroace spectrum still, just not pure romance or sex repulsed (like a lot of people hc Moons as in this fandom). Moon more demi-ro and aceflux and Ruin's a romance-favorable aromantic and sex indifferent asexual.

God I love being insane. I have two whole-ass AUs about Old Moon/Ruin that I made with Ellery. We're so fucking feral about them it's not funny.

They both get dark and fucked up at some point because that's just how it is when you're a dark fiction creator, almost everything ends up fucked up and twisted in some way shape or form, even the nice shit. But they're really sweet AUs and I really love their dynamic.
