Revising Idle Hands... again

Final time, I swear!!!

I wasn't going to make a post about this until I actually got it all done. I was also going to write a full rewrite on the side to see which one I liked better because the structure was going to change to where the genre felt more in line with typical erotica or whatever.

But a bunch of stuff happened and I've lost the vision of how I was going to do that. XD Even though I have notes for it, they ain't really doing anything for me.

Maybe it'll come to me after I do the revisions, but either way, yes I finally have the story completely figured out now. 😅 (or the backstory, rather, which is still important. The plot is pretty simple otherwise, it's just the motivations and such weren't fleshed out and was making writing harder and harder. Basically, it just felt like I couldn't make them do what the script says they're going to do).

Currently, Naruto and Hinata don't have significant history together and I didn't realize that's what was making the story's progression fall apart in my head. Anyways, now they do and I have to go through what I already have on Ao3 to accommodate that detail. I probably don't have to do much, but I might also write in new scenes if they fit.

The other thing is Sasuke. I actually felt like he was too chatty towards the end of Ch 5 and that bothers me, on top of that chattiness being purely convenient exposition, like, it just feels lazy of me, so that's getting axed to some degree. There's also some flaws in the paint thinner scene as well. But more importantly... I am changing Sasuke to a new kid in town. I'm thinking he moved in while Naruto was out of town, so when Naruto came back, 'the sticks' suddenly became very interesting and that's why they're 'friends'. This will also open him up to be fascinated with the beef between Naruto and Hinata since he wasn't there for any of that.

Other revisions will be worldbuilding related for my own satisfaction. They'll affect Naruto's characterization to a degree. I also think that this probation shouldn't affect his ability to do what he wants as much as it's currently portrayed, so I'm going to see what I can do about that.

I started "IWGP: Ikebukuro West Gate Park" on Netflix a few days ago and it gave me ideas. I should actually try to binge it though so that way I don't have regret when the other episodes inspire me and I'm all like 'Oh no, I could have put that there'. 😅😅😅 But I'm so impatient, I want to write already!!!!!!1!111! 😤😤😤

Anyways, in the future I am going to try to write my stuff all in one sitting so this doesn't keep happening to me again. 😓 Like my Shibari AU when I get around to it, and Dissolve Me. I gotta rough draft the hell out of those for sure, and probably multiple times. 😤 I honestly kind of want to combine the current chapters of Dissolve Me into the first chapter as well, but I dunno, that kind of feels like a vanity thing eheh.

22) Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

Oooh, hmm. I think the main thing that comes to mind is First Person POV (I, me) and something with a lot of different POVs.

The first because I find it really uncomfortable to read/write in fanfic (I have no issue with it in traditional novels, but in fanfic it doesn't work for me). Hilariously, I don't mind writing in 2nd person POV, even though most people hate it. I prefer 3rd person, though.

And the second because I don't like writing different POVs and am not fond of reading it. A lot of fanfic writers struggle with clear POV delineation (either switching mid-scene or mid-chapter without clear breaks [I.e. a line break or a chapter break], switching mid-paragraph, or even sometimes switching mid-sentence), and it's a bit of a writing pet peeve of mine XD So I try to stick with one POV because I prefer it. I think I've only written fics that changes up POVs maybe twice? And it's always with really clear markers.

36) How do you write kissing scenes?

Asking the hard questions XD Okay, so, I'm going to answer this like a tutorial. Because the other answer is "both easily and with much difficulty while thinking about other people's mouths a lot" hahaha

First - think of the mood. What's the vibe? Urgency? Soft tenderness? Steamy makeout? Comfy lazy? What are the emotions - angry? Happy? Sad? Pining? As with all things, the mood and emotion inform the rest of the scene.

Second - physical details. I tend to focus on mouths, hands, and the rest of their body.

Mouths - I don't like putting a ton of physical detail on mouths specifically into kissing scenes (although, it depends on your level of physical detail, I think by some writers standards I am probably very descriptive). Like - brief description of their lips (soft, chapped, warm, cold, etc), what their mouth tastes like (stale morning breath, whiskey/coffee/cigarettes/ what have you, flavoured lip chap), and maybe a brief mention of tongues if they're involved (slipping into mouths, sliding over their tongue, etc).

Hands - Where are their hands? There are (typically) four involved, what are they doing? Resting on hips, wound in hair, cupping a cheek? Are they busy doing other sexy things?

Rest of their body - what actions came before/with the kiss? Was someone straddled, pinned against a wall, was it a gentle lean in, are they standing far apart stiffly like grade 8 kids slow dancing? How does their body match the mood/emotion?

Third - What are they feeling? Does being kissed make the character angry? Horny? Sad? Happy? Where do they feel those emotions/how do they experience them? Does it well up in their chest, settle in their shoulders, in their gut, etc?

These can all help with the mood/emotion mentioned earlier. A scene involving a drunk angry kiss after a fight (bleeding split lip, tasting of whiskey and cigarettes, hard mouth against theirs as a tongue slipped desperately into their mouth, pressed back against a brick wall with a hand around their throat or fisted in their hair) will feel different from a physical standpoint than a soft morning kiss between people who've been together a long time (morning breath, a sleepy smile on their mouth, hand soft on their waist, leg thrown over a hip and blankets too warm around them). The emotional response to the kiss will be different too (maybe an angry horny response vs a soft loving emotion).

Basically - kiss scenes are a great way to convey mood and character details! But also, don't overthink it too hard. It's okay to go into as little or as much detail as you enjoy. "She kissed him softly" is just as good as a much longer kiss descriptor, in the right setting. And as with all things, variation is important! (This is also how I go about writing sex scenes, generally speaking.)

Daily Blog #15: August 22, 2021

Dollar Tree is honestly pretty fucking awesome 👌👌👌

I set my alarm for like 6:25 this morning, but it took 6 minutes for the "Horsin' Around" theme song instrumental to wake me up. I was pretty tired lol. I just dismissed it and went back to sleep.

I only went back to sleep because I knew I had another alarm set for 7:00. That got me up.

I should mention that this was still in the RV over an hour away from the house.

After I got up, I went to go get a shower, and did so successfully.

Unfortunately, I had forgotten my brush this time and had to do it afterwards after my hair had a bit of time to dry, which did make it a little more difficult lol.

I got dressed and grabbed my stuff, putting it into my car.

I made it a point to see and say "see you later" to my grandparents before I left for the flea market.

My dad insisted that I stayed to say goodbye to my mom, so I left.

I did NOT have cell service up there, as was mentioned in my previous 2 blogs of which I could only post today, so finding my way was a tiny bit difficult until I got some service to ask Google to take me to "...".

It worked and I got there.

On my drive, I listened to 1 by Simple Kid, a CD I had previously purchased at a Dollar Tree location.

I got a call from the guy at the flea market saying that I had some people there waiting for me. He asked how far away I was, to which I said "about 10 minutes." Ironically, that call made me miss my exit, as Google couldn't talk during the call, and added about 3 minutes to my arrival time lmao.

I did sell the Xbox that he said someone was interested in. I got $40 for it. I spent 27¢ on it. Pretty good return if you ask me.

I couldn't sell it with anything other than a power cord because the controller and AV cables I had been using to play it there were for my personal console. I'm just glad I can actually hook my Xbox up and stop having to drag them to the flea market along with a small library of games.

Not too long after I sold the Xbox, someone came in and asked if I wanted to see some electronics he had in his car. I went out with him. It was a pair of 3ft speakers and a Pioneer audio system with dual cassette decks (although neither of them works) and a 25 Disc CD-changer, as well as the standard AM/FM tuner. Additionally, there was a Fisher amplifier and AM/FM tuner as well as a Fisher Direct Drive turntable. He said he wanted $60 for em, but before that he casually, and probably accidentally, dropped that he was just gonna take em to the thrift store.

Big mistake.

I got em for $35 lmao. THERE GOES MOST OF MY PROFIT.

Oh well.

I tested everything. As I mentioned, the cassette decks don't work, but everything else does apart from the turntable needing a new stylus.

I posted some new photos of the shop to Facebook, and someone soon DMed me about a stereo system.

I priced everything, and it turns out I have about $300 worth of equipment from that deal, the Fisher amp and tuner being worth about $150.

The buyer will hopefully show up next weekend, for he wants to buy the Fisher stuff ($185 with the turntable), the 3ft speakers, an 8-track deck, and a Kenwood deck we've had for a week or two.

The speakers are listed for $50 (and are worth around $100-150), the Kenwood Deck for $50 as well, and the 8-track for $35. That makes it about $320 in equipment. Since he's buying so much, I'll knock it down to $270 and essentially give him the speakers or cassette deck for free lol.

Apart from that stuff, not much happened at the flea market. I sold some records, cassettes, CDs and I think 2 DVDs. One person bought a VHS tape? That money was the other guy's though. Oh well xD.

I can't say that I didn't miss my wonderful partner while on the trip. I actually brought along the stuffed animal they gave me (who's name is Greg) and snuggled with him both nights.

I was very happy to hear from them UwU.

They let me rant and I let them rant.

I honestly give them too much responsibility over me xD. I'm like, "Okay, I'm gonna do this. HOLD ME TO IT."

I know I can't hold myself to anything I personally say (this blog being the only exception apparently), but I listen to them pretty well I think 🤔. If they tell me, "No, you don't need that VCR," so long as it's not some weird specialty thing, like a worldwide VCR 🥵, I'll be like "Yeah, you rite bro."

So part way through the flea market day, I went over to Dollar Tree to buy some snack, but ended up looking through the CDs to see if there was anything good. I took photos of about 18 CDs and flipped through them online for the remainder of the flea market day.

I deleted the photos of the ones I didn't want and kept those that I liked. Surprisingly, I ended up buying 13 CDs there, but not before dropping them on the floor like the dumbass I am.

Also, sorry for all the nerd shit I spilled on your lap earlier. No one cares about amps and tuners xD.

I already transferred over to my online library on iBroadcast and put the disc into my CD changer, which is now holding 164 CDs.

It's 37 Everywhere by Punchline. Def give it a listen; it's pretty heccin good.

Another notable album I picked up was Page One by Steven Page. I very much like the first track, "A New Shore." It's quite catchy and he has a great voice imo.

Also at dollar tree, I bought a regular bag of Fieras and 2 bags of Fieras Sticks, which were marked down to 75¢/bag because they're expiring soon.

I honestly like the generic Dollar Tree version of Takis more than actual Takis. They're a lot more flavorful when it comes to the lime, but also hotter at the same time.

Don't get the hot nacho ones tho. Hot nacho? More like hot pile of shit.

I got home and started working on putting the CDs onto my computer, and then onto iBroadcast, but not without first adding The Music Man to my digital library, something I had neglected for a month or two. The CD had just been sitting there lol.

I also switched my digital file for "The Black Parade" to that of the uncensored CD, which I had purchased before I event started working over 2 months ago.

MAN I'M LAZY

I eventually get around to shit tho lol. I guess it's just a matter of priority.

What usually takes priority is digging through everything to find something that I forgot about but then remembered, making a mess in the process that I would then have to clean up, at least partially.

I think the album just ended. I've been writing for a while xD. I'ma start "I Made You Something" by The Island of the Misfit Toys.

I'll tell you where that album came from in a minute.

In the meantime, where was I?

I kinda lost my train of thought despite reading up to see where I was. Oh well. On I go.

I ate dinner and kept working on those CDs, eventually putting my clothes from the week into the washer.

My clothes are in the dryer now. I don't think I have the time (or energy) to fold them tonight. I'll leave that for tomorrow morning before work.

And God. Fucking. Damnit. I start school again on Wednesday. NOT looking forward to that, and neither are my 2 coworkers. We already have low enough staff, but only the two of them working is gonna be a pain in the ass.

I'll still work Saturdays.

I need to contact my guidance counselor to get out of the gym class I signed up for. I scheduled this shit before I found out I was trans, and I don't wanna deal with the fucking locker room situation 🙄 I have far more important matters.

Okay so anyway, the album I'm listening to came from a cassette. I bought this cassette a few months ago at the flea market along with a few others. The reason I bought them? They were all newer cassette releases from the 2010's, and they're all actually pretty good music from very indie bands.

Currently getting mad at iBroadcast's compression algorithm. It's unnaturally fucking anything over -10db up. Oh well, there's not really anything I can do about it.

I have like 13GB of music on my phone btw. That's about 3.5k songs on 268 albums.

I'm kind of an audiophile, but I'm too cheap to pay for a lossless service. Oh well.

They do actually have a lossless service on iBroadcast, but once again, too cheap.

Hi, what made you so certain that Lucrecia recently gave birth during her confrontation with Hojo about Vincent? I'm still a teen with no sexual experience whatsoever so I'm curious.

Hey there! This actually isn’t something that requires sexual experience to figure out, just comprehension of the plot. xD; It’s not like I went, “Ah yes, due to my sexual experience I can certainly deduce that Lucrecia has just had a baby.”

Firstly, we all know it’s not in question that Lucrecia had a baby, yeah? I mean, basically the plot of FF7 can be boiled down to “Lucrecia had a baby, and it went badly.” Ok? Ok.

Her pregnancy is established in the scene that begins with “Is it true?”, when Vincent confronts Hojo and Lucrecia about experimenting on the unborn child. In English, he says, “But using your own child for an experiment?!” but in Japanese it’s something more like “Using the child inside your stomach for an experiment?!” that implies that she is already pregnant.

Later, we see Lucrecia and Hojo arguing in front of a pickling Vincent (sorry, I love referring to deadTurk!Vincent as “pickling”) inside his tank. She says, “Give him back! Give my son back!” This establishes that Sephiroth has already been born.

So, we know she had a pregnancy and gave birth at some point between those two scenes, but not exactly when. There would also need to be some time for her to recover from the childbirth before she could be up and about and before she would look non-pregnant again.

My deduction that the entire pregnancy and birth took place before the shooting scene rather than after it is a result of generously allowing the storytellers the concession that she doesn’t look pregnant when she walks into the library and stumbles upon Hojo shooting Vincent because she isn’t pregnant, and not because they were just lazy af about their game models. (Not airtight logic given the antics of Squeenix, I grant you.)

Due to the rate at which the scenes following that progress, as well as later dialogue like “What’s wrong with me…? Maybe I’ve been working too hard lately” when she collapses (instead of attributing her physical weakness to, oh I don’t know, a pregnancy that she knows she currently has), I think it’s more likely that the pregnancy we don’t see occurred before the shooting than after.

We’re talking about like 6 months of visible pregnancy that we never see, after all, and maybe about 2–3 that could feasibly be visually undetectable before she starts showing and after that scene where it’s mentioned that she’s pregnant and they’re going to experiment on the baby. It doesn’t seem likely that Vincent’s death, Hojo experimenting on him, then Lucrecia stealing him from Hojo and working on him herself, and all the scenes we see of her in the lab could have happened during that time—and that then there would be 6–7 months during which we don’t see Lucrecia in any scenes at all, until many months later we see her in the lab again, arguing with Hojo about the baby?

No, it’s far more likely that the storytelling lull during which not enough happened to show Lucrecia in any scenes for 6–7 months occurred between the pregnancy being established and Vincent being shot. Because after he gets shot, all hell breaks loose. (Um, kind of literally? Lawllll sorry Vince. >.> )

Also, in the corresponding OG flashback, the order of these events is this:

shot of Lucrecia alone in a room rubbing her tummy, establishing to the player that she is pregnant.

Vincent runs up to Hojo and says he’s against the experiments.

Vincent narrates that the child was born and he was named Sephiroth.

Lucrecia collapses.

Vincent confronts Hojo and gets shot.

So, as long as it is accepted that DoC is trying to tell more or less the same events (even if they reinterpreted them a bit), then it would follow that the pregnancy mostly occurs during a span of time between Vincent voicing his dissent about the experiments and Vincent getting shot.

But you probably heard me claiming that she had just given birth in that scene while making a case that she was emotionally and hormonally compromised. (I don’t know which posts of mine you just read that you’re asking about, but off the top of my head that’s the context I can think of me pointing that out in.) And even if you headcanoned that she was still pregnant (which isn’t really heavily supported by canon but isn’t outright contradicted by it either), then those statements would still apply.

For what it’s worth, I have never been pregnant myself either, nor does sexual experience give you magical insight into pregnancy. From what I understand, pregnancy is usually detected around 1 month or a little later from the start of the pregnancy (which is actually counted from the first day of the last period, not ovulation or conception), and when a woman starts “showing” can vary but is usually around 3 months or so? (Lucrecia is a pretty thin woman so it seems to me that concealing a pregnancy on her would be like trying to hide a grape on a popsicle stick.) I could be slightly off about the timeline of a pregnancy, but not by a significant enough amount for it to make any difference in arguing that her visible pregnancy + post-childbirth recovery time would have taken too long to occur at any time between Vincent being shot and, say, her collapsing in the lab and wondering what’s wrong with her health (at which point I believe we can rule out that she is still pregnant, because then she wouldn’t be wondering).

Oh, but what I do posit which is a little more open to interpretation is that she was actually only just recently “up and about again” when the shooting happened, rather than the birth having occurred quite some time before this. This is primarily because Hojo expresses that he heard someone in her lab but didn’t immediately know that it would have been her, and I believe this may be because it was the first time she was back to working in the lab since being out of commission having a baby (and maybe even sooner than she should have been returning). This is also congruent with her holding her stomach when she ambles into the library, experiencing poor health and being surprised by it like these developments are new to her, and also gives her a distraction from Sephiroth’s absence from the outset. But then we’re getting into headcanon. :)
