⭐️!!
Hello, George!! Thank you very much for sending this star - and sorry it took me so long to respond to ;w;
(source: this post by sennamybeloved)
send me a “⭐️” and i’ll use a random thing picker to choose one of my F/Os, and i’ll reply to the ask with a small infodump about my selfship with them! - Alright, for this one, the F/O that was selected was Yoimiya!
Yoimiya is a 5-star playable character in Genshin Impact, and the current owner of her family business, Naganohara Fireworks; fitting her work as a pyrotechnician, she is in possession of a Pyro Vision, which she uses to help make fireworks as well as in combat situations alongside her bow. She is known as the Queen of the Summer Festival in Inazuma, and is very well-liked by many for her energetic and excitable personality. The self-insert I use to selfship with Yoimiya is called Lamia! She also has Pyro elemental powers, although it isn't entirely clear where those come from considering her lack of a Vision, and she fights using a sword in combat. She does not originate from Inazuma, but is currently living there with Yoimiya, helping her out in her fireworks shop. There is something uncanny that can potentially be sensed about her, but she is nevertheless a curious and kind figure who always means well.
Yoimiya and Lamia met some time after Lamia came to Inazuma, as she was first seen on Watatsumi Island before making her way northeast onto Narukami Island. As a wandering traveller that appeared during the Vision Hunt Decree (..despite the nation being closed at that time..), Yoimiya was happy to take Lamia in alongside others she was hiding in her fireworks shop, and the two of them naturally started to become close over time as they got to know each other better and Lamia got to learn more about Inazuma in general from Yoimiya's positive perspective. As an example of the trust the two share, Yoimiya is one of very few people who knows Lamia's true form, as she once unintentionally walked in on Lamia having temporarily shed her disguise in order to hide from people searching for her. While this accidental reveal may have potentially been a serious source of conflict in the growing relationship, it isn't here; Yoimiya doesn't mind it, because she knows who Lamia is really trying to be and supports her trying to live her life like she wants to. Besides, as she might say - when you have a girlfriend that can turn into something the size of a big plushie, you can hug her just like one too! ^-^
I hope that this was alright as a description! Maybe I shouldn't have tried to write it at what is now gone two o'clock in the morning, but.. it's done now! Thank you very much again for sending in the star!!~

akshgfb someone wants to hear my theories/headcanons? This is the best, okay, @lewistheeditor ask ye shall receive
Although thinking back on it, I guess not a lot were dashed, only one really, but it's a whole connected thing in my head so it meant many details had to change, which felt like a lot to me.
Dashed Theory
He was found by Egeria in the human world
So originally, I imagined that after the hydro sovereign withered away and died, Neuvillette was born as an heir to the sovereign. He was born as a human (enkanomiya prophecy), but he quite obviously doesn't look completely human so his parents freaked out and just tossed him into the sea (what else do you do with what you think is a cursed child? come on people, this is me we're talking about, we need angst). Time passed, Egeria found him all alone, and she took to raising him as her own.
New Theory
He was found by Egeria in the Light Realm (or wherever it is the vishaps disappeared to after the fight with the Primordial One)
With this, hydro sovereign still withers and dies, Neuvillette is still born in the human world and gets tossed into the sea, BUT he is found by the vishaps very early on (like, same day or a few days after instead of after quite some time). The vishaps take him back with them to their world/realm and try (and fail) to raise him. Egeria is exploring this realm (why? idk, reasons. to study or something, idk), which I imagine to be very very dark and near impossible to see in, when this little kid finds her and starts to talk to her. She makes a connection with this kid, figures out he's the hydro sovereign's heir but he really isn't that bad at all, he's just a kid. Stuff happens (I could elaborate but man i gotta get it all straightened out in a google doc first), but the important thing to note is that after a few years he goes back with her to the human realm, and she raises him as her own.
Explanation
The whole reason I had this change is really inconsequential when it comes down to it, but it's the line "You will see much in the human world". That, to me at least, implies that he is going to the human world for the first time or is otherwise experiencing the human world for the first time; basically, that he didn't live there originally and was either brought there or travelled there himself.
I like to think that line and the whole phrase it's a part of is a summary or paraphrase of a prophecy made in Fontaine surrounding the heir to the hydro sovereign. Enkanomiya has it's prophecy, who's to say other regions, especially the region of hydro, won't have their own prophecies concerning the hydro sovereign's heir?
I like to think it was Furina paraphrasing Fontaine's prophecy to Neuvillette at some point after Egeria came back with the hydro sovereign's heir following after her. Why? I'm not sure, maybe she was trying to connect with him, or tell him he's destined for great things to bring his spirits up, who knows.
Of course, if it's a prophecy, and a paraphrase at that, he still very much could have been born and stayed in the human realm, but it's much more fun to imagine this little dragon kid living in the world of vishaps and meeting his first human (or human-like figure) and being completely fascinated with her, and sort of just following her around like a puppy.

would LOVE to learn more about lamia... 2 9 and 14 mayhaps? 👀👀
!!! I am more than happy to oblige, friend, thank you so much!!
(question source: "ask game: self-insert lore" by inserthaven)
2. when in canon does your self-insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance? - Lamia can technically show up at any time because she's a playable character freely available from wishes, but in terms of the actual story, she appears alongide Enjou when the Traveller first goes down to Enkanomiya! She is introduced as his assistant, but decides to stop working with him (or more specifically, for the Abyss Order) and make her way out to the surface instead after hearing about Teyvat and its people from the Traveller and Paimon. There’s a reason her title is “Abyssal Curiosity”, after all - she finds people interesting.
At the moment, I have it so that Lamia doesn't make any indication of her true identity to the Traveller even after Enjou reveals his, but maybe there's like one camera angle right at the end focusing on the back of her neck (where you can see her scaled spine) to kind of clue the player in. Maybe once Enjou transforms and sheds his disguise, Paimon can be like "uhhh did you know about this?! he lied to us!!” and maybe Lamia just says "What do you think? ^-^" and walks away and that's where that quest ends, hahaha. I’d like to integrate her more into the Inazuma arc of the storyline, possibly by moving the first entrance into Enkanomiya to during the second act so that she can be in Inazuma for the third?, but this is all I have for the moment~
9. who are your self-insert's closest friends? - Lamia tries to be friendly with a lot of the people she meets! It's her way of trying to fit in with others and so hopefully be accepted amongst them more easily. However, she's naturally quite enigmatic, so I wouldn't say she's actually close with a lot of people other than Yoimiya, since not many people actually know much information about her (it’s one of those dynamics where people think of course they must know a lot given how often and well they interact with her, but if you asked them lots of questions about her, they wouldn’t actually know any answers).
However, I have established that she and Sayu are quite close, since Sayu feels she can confide in Lamia and Lamia can always see through Sayu's disguises. I don’t really know what Kuki Shinobu is like yet since I’ve yet to meet her in-game, but I could see her and Lamia also being friends based on what I do know, perhaps inexplicably. Additionally, she was close with Enjou and looked up to him and his skills a lot, hence why she pestered him to teach her how to disguise as a human (though she didn’t quite get the magic as accurate as he did) - she hasn’t exactly seen him for a while though, so she hopes he doesn’t bear any grudge against her for abandoning their mission..
14. what hobbies does your self-insert have? - Lamia doesn't particularly enjoy combat, but she does like using her powers a fair bit, just to play around with them. She also uses them to help Yoimiya correct and test things like firework trajectories, changing their courses by either using her air powers or making very tiny and short-lived portals to send them through. Lamia is also naturally very curious, and loves learning new things about the world around her - for example, she wanted to go to Liyue when Yoimiya went for the Lantern Rite so that she could experience a different nation of Teyvat and see how things were different there (as well as to help Yoimiya with the fireworks and festivities, of course!). She isn’t overly academic and studious, but she does enjoy reading, as well as collecting flowers that she likes.
I hope that all of these answers are alright!! Thank you so so much again for this question, friend, it was very fun to write out the answers to ^-^
