Future Planning (Branch Connally x Reader)
•• I hope you all enjoy! ••
Holding your phone up to your ear, you could already hear the annoyed tone of Branch's voice. He was out with some high school buddies and you'd promised not to call him. You hadn't anticipated crashing your car in the ditch and getting stuck inside. You were just happy you were tipped on the side and not on the roof.
"(Y/n)-" He started.
"I crashed my car." He stopped whatever he'd been starting to say and went still. You heard the bar's music in the background. It was a George Strait song.
"Did you call 911?"
"You are 911."
"Not three drinks in I ain't." He sighed. "Are you alright? What happened?" You winced, looking down at your legs. You knew they weren't broke, but they were trapped where the car dented inwards. You were pinned.
"The car's on its side in the ditch by Willow Creek...and I'm stuck in it."
"(Y/n), Jesus Christ!"
"An Elk jumped out in front of me! What was I supposed to do?"
"Don't swerve to avoid it!" You heard the music get quieter before ultimately hearing the door to the bar shut behind him.
"Oh yeah, because hitting it head-on is a much better idea." His lack of a response told you he got your point. The engine of his truck revved as he got inside.
"I'll call the station and get Ferg out there. I'm on my way too."
"Thank you, Branch." He huffed.
"Don't thank me yet, you're still in the car." You smiled. "I'm going to hang up now baby. You'll be alright?" You looked around at the interior of the car and took a shaky breath.
"I'll manage."
"I love you, (Y/n)."
"I love you too, Branch." He hung up and you stuffed your phone in your jacket pocket. Without Branch and with your newly broken window, you were able to hear an Elk call in the distance. Probably the one you'd almost hit. A dog howled closer. At least you hoped it was a dog. The last thing you needed was a pack of wolves to find your crashed car. This stretch of highway past Willow Creek was surrounded by acres of protected forest. It was also a great place to think, which is why you'd been driving through in the first place.
Branch was the first man to give you a shot. You'd never even been on a date until your mid-twenties. Being a bigger girl most people weren't interested, but Branch had been. The moment he'd met you as a "Secretary in Training" to Ruby at the Sheriff station he'd go out of his way to talk to you or buy you coffee on his way to work. Ruby loved having you around as she started to ease into a full retirement, and the more time she took off the more time you had with Branch. Almost a year ago the two of you moved in together at his house. Now you were thinking about the future, the future you wanted to have with him. You wanted to ask Branch Connally to marry you. It wasn't very traditional for the woman to ask the man, but you couldn't stop thinking about asking him. You'd been driving this stretch of highway to think for years. Before you made any major life decisions you drove from Durant to the next town over to think with a clear headspace. Thankfully, you weren't that far out of Durant now. Considering Branch was probably at the Red Pony, he wouldn't be much longer.
You perked up at the sound of a truck engine. The tires squealed as Branch put his foot on the brakes.
"(Y/n)! Damn it, girl, you didn't tell me it was this bad!" You laughed, tears brimming at the edge of your eyes. It wasn't that bad, honestly, but it was scary.
“I'm fine!”
“You know you can't lie for shit.” He hissed out as he attempted to turn the car over by himself. “Damn!” He huffed. “You wedged it in there, this bitch ain't budging.” He sighed. “Ferg better hurry the fuck up with that tow truck or I'm kicking his ass.” He went quiet for a minute. “You sure you're alright?”
“My legs are pinned but other than that…just a little shaken up.”
“Yeah, I bet.” He clicked his tongue against his teeth. Something he did when something was on his mind.
“Okay, say it.”
“Say what?”
“Whatever you’re thinking about. You did that tongue thing again.”
“I don't do a tongue thing!”
“Yeah, you do, I just heard it!”
“How the hell could you possibly hear that from inside the car?”
“You're like directly next to me, Branch. Come on.” He let out a small laugh.
“Fine, fine. I was-.” You both went silent as the sirens on Ferg’s Dodge Charger started to echo through the hills. “Took him long enough.”
“Don't you blame Ferg, you probably broke the law getting here.”
“Did not.”
“Oh, then how fast were you going?”
“The reasonable amount when your girlfriend calls you and says she crashed her car.”
“Which is?”
“You don't wanna know.”
“(Y/n)! You okay?!” Ferg yelled as he ran up to the car. “Oh my god!”
“I'm fine, Ferg! Just…flip me back over!”
“On it, (Y/n). The tow truck drivers hooking up the cables now.”
“Do it slow. Her legs are pinned.”
“You got it, Sir.” The new voice must have been the tow truck driver. You looked out the windshield at the sideways view of the creek bed. Your headlights illuminate the cattails and tall grass. You could see the water tricking past. Looking at that helped calm your nerves a bit, but trying to keep your head up at this angle was getting tiring.
“Alright, you ready to be turned right side up?”
“Yes!”
“Okay, brace yourself!” You tensed up and screwed your eyes shut as he turned on the tow truck's pulley and the car started to shift. The metal of your car groaned as the pulley slowly brought your car back to being on all four tires. You held in a yell at how it jarred your entire body, not wanting to worry Branch or Ferg any more than you already had. You’d just barely opened your eyes again and Branch was right at your window, leaning in.
“Fucking Christ, (y/n), you weren't kidding when you said your legs were pinned.” He reached down and tried unlatching the door and cursed under his breath. “We're gonna have to cut you out of there. Ferg! Tell those Firefighters to get the Jaws of Life up here!”
“Firefighters? When did they get here?”
“They came as backup in case we needed ‘em.” Branch grunted as he tried to pry the door open again. “If we couldn't get you out ourselves.” You nodded, trying to ignore how hot he looked with the red and blue lights illuminating the side of his face. Now wasn't the time to be thinking that. He smiled. “I gotta get out of these guys' way so they can get you out. You do what they ask, alright?” You smiled back at him.
“Yes, dear.” He tried to be cool as he backed out the window, but failed. He bumped the back of his head on the top of the door. You could hear one of the firefighters laugh.
After the Firefighters got you out and had an EMT give you a checkup, Branch loaded you into his truck and drove you both back home. You went to get out of the truck yourself but Branch got his arms under you and carried you into the house and set you down on the couch. He left you alone for a few minutes before coming back into the living room with a bottle of whiskey and two glasses of soda.
“Here. Figured you'd want something stiff.” You took one of the glasses and held it up as he poured in some whiskey before taking a nice long sip. You sighed.
“Thank you.” Branch settled at the other end of the couch and poured his glass. He turned, licking his lips. “Hey.”
“Yeah?”
“You never told me what you were thinking about back at the car.” He blinked.
“Oh, right.” He shifted so he was facing you, sitting on his legs. “What were you doing driving out there?”
“You know I think better when I'm driving.” He nodded. Wanting more. “I was thinking about…asking you something.” He leaned back a little.
“Ask me what?” He said, setting his glass down. Giving you his full attention. Well, this wasn't how you pictured asking Branch but…after tonight you needed to tell him.
“I…wanted to ask you if….you’d want to marry me.” You jumped at how fast he threw himself onto you and slammed his lips into yours. You felt the glass of whiskey slip from your hands and clink onto the table. Somehow managing not to spill a drop.
“Course I’d marry you.” He puffed out as he pulled away, wiping at his mouth. “That's a stupid question. You're the best girl a guy could ask for.” He smirked. “You need me to remind you how much I love you?” You could feel the blood rushing to your face.
“I wouldn't mind.” He laughed, climbing off you and whisking you up into his arms.
“Then let's get Wedding planning.” He headed toward the bedroom.
“The bedroom?” He winked.
“That's where the best planning starts.” You weren't sure what kind of planning you could get done in the bedroom, but you couldn't wait to find out.

November - Chapter 6
*Warning Adult Content*
- Oliver -
Oliver’s good mood after his hike with Cooper didn't last long once he was back at the hotel with Brad.
When he had shown his boyfriend pictures from the hike, he barely even glanced at them.
Oliver knew this trip was more his own idea than his partners but when he was honest with myself and really thought about their relationship, the young man realized Brad rarely showed interest in the things that were important to him.
Oliver felt like he was always trying to get his attention.
This morning they were headed over to Lake Crescent before continuing on to hike at Sol Duc Falls.
Oliver was excited about seeing the falls and he was enjoying the drive along the lake.
The winding road clung to the lakeshore, with trees or rocky cliffs on the side of the road opposite the lake.
"This is beautiful," Oliver murmured, staring out the window at the lake.
"Pull over there," he told Brad, pointing to a pullout along the road.
"We've already stopped at every pullout we've seen," Brad complains.
"How is this one any different?"
Even so, the older man still pulls the car over and shuts it off so they can get out and have a look.
Oliver takes pictures in every direction and makes Brad pose in front of the lake before taking a picture of the two of them.
It was going well until they get back in the car and it won't start when Brad turned the key.
"You have got to be kidding me," he groans and then tried again.
But still nothing.
"Is the battery dead?" Oliverwonders.
"It's possible, since we kept stopping and starting. Shutting the car off and then turning it back on. I knew this wasn't a good idea."
"Are you blaming me for this?"
Brad just sighs.
"I didn't say that."
Not wanting to start a fight, Oliver picks up his cell-phone.
"We need someone to come and have a look at it. I'll call Cooper."
"Who the fuck is Cooper?"
"I met him on the plane flight here. He sat next to me and gave me a ton of tips about Washington. He lives around here."
"Why do you have his number?"
"So I can get recommendations about stuff for us to do. And it's a good thing because he ended up hiking with me yesterday when you couldn't go. He was nice and helpful and I didn't have to go alone."
Brad rolled his eyes.
"Alright, so how soon can he get here?"
Oliver gave Brad a glare as he called Cooper, hoping his new friend wasn't busy. He answered after three rings.
"Oliver. What's up?"
"Hey, so... I'm not calling for a greatest reason. I need a favor, if you have the time."
"Sure."
"Brad and I are on our way to Sol Duc Falls but the rental car quit. Neither of us are car guys and I don't know what to do or if we should call a tow truck."
"Where are you?"
"At a pullout along Lake Crescent. We stopped to look at the lake."
"I'll be there in about thirty minutes. You and Brad go sit on a log and look at the lake and just relax. I’ll see you soon."
Before Oliver could say anything, Cooper hung up.
"So? What's going on?" Brad asked.
"He's on his way. Come on, let's go sit by the water."
Brad grumbles but he followed Oliver through the opening in the guardrail and down to the little beach.
After a half an hour passed, Oliver turned so he could keep an eye out for Cooper.
A few minutes later, he saw his truck pull in alongside the rental car.
The young man stands up and Brad turns.
Cooper gets out of his truck and waves.
"What kind of redneck did you befriend?" Brad mutters.
Oliver turns and glares at his boyfriend.
"He's not a redneck and that's rude to say, about someone who is about to help us."
Ignoring Brad, Oliver walks up from the beach over to hire car.
"Thanks for coming. I'm sorry you drove all the way out here."
Cooper laughs.
"Thirty minutes is nothing on the peninsula. Now, what happened with the car?"
"It won't start. It seemed fine when we were driving."
"Could be a few things. Battery is what I'll check first."
Brad appeared at Oliver’s side and nodded to Cooper.
Cooper smiled and held out his hand.
"Cooper."
Brad shook it.
"Brad."
"I know who you are. Oliver talks about you. How are you liking Washington so far?"
"It's pretty. Great scenery."
Cooper nods and then opens the hood of the hire car and begins looking around.
Brad wanders off back towards the lake and Oliver watches as Cooper tried jump-starting the car, then looking around in the engine some more, then back at the battery again.
At one point he hauls a toolbox from his truck and starts doing something with the battery.
When he tries starting the car again, it turns right on.
"What was it?"
"The terminals on the battery were loose. I've tightened them up but the whole thing needs to be replaced. I wouldn't risk driving around the peninsula with this car, since there are long stretches of road with nothing and cell service isn't always good. You should take it to one of the rental agencies in town and swap it out."
Oliver was disappointed because this meant going back to town rather than continuing on to Sol Duc Falls but there wasn't anything he could do about it.
"Thanks for your help. We never would have figured that out."
"I'll follow you into town in case you have any more trouble with it along the way."
"You don't have to do that. It'll take you even further from home."
"Not a problem. I'm not gonna leave you on your own and risk something else happening."
Oliver smiles at him.
"You're a good guy. At least get lunch with us after we get the car sorted?"
"Sure. I'm always down for food."
A couple hours later, the three of them are sitting at an outdoor table at a restaurant.
Oliver had to endure a few comments from Brad once he found out they were having lunch with Cooper.
"He’s as big as a bear and looks like he could eat both of us."
******
"What's your plan for tomorrow?" Cooper asked.
"I guess it'll be Sol Duc Falls, since we didn't make it out there today."
"You'll love it. Sometimes if you're lucky with the light, you'll get quite a few sun rays filtering through the trees."
Brad slowly spin one of the forks on the table and Oliver could tell he was already bored.
"You were on our flight here?" Brad asks Cooper, looking up at him.
"Yep. I gave Oliver a few recommendations but it sounds like he did a great job planning the trip already. Is it your first time here too?"
Brad nods.
"I admit it's a beautiful area. I wanted to go to Europe but it was too expensive for this one," he says, tilting his head towards Oliver who doesn't miss the slight narrowing of Cooper's eyes when Brad brought up his boyfriend’s inability to afford a trip abroad but he played nice instead.
"Do you go abroad for your work?"
"Once in a while," Brad replied. "Oliver isn't a fan of my long business trips."
Oliver reaches over and takes Brad's hand in his.
"That’s because I miss not having my boyfriend around, that's all."
Brad tolerates Oliver holding his hand for about thirty seconds before he pulls it away.
The young man feels rejected whenever he does this and it was worse when he did it in front of other people.
But maybe it would make Cooper uncomfortable if they held hands, since the local man was a third wheel at the moment.
Oliver couldn't help but wonder what Cooper thought about PDA.
Brad spent most of the meal discussing his job with Cooper.
Oliver wished they could talk about something else and he was sure Cooper did too but he didn't show it.
Cooper being able to talk to anyone about anything didn't surprise the young man.
When the waiter brought the bill to the table at the end of the meal, Cooper reached for it and started to get his wallet out.
"Oh no, you're not paying for your own meal," Oliver says, taking the bill from him.
"You helped us out with the hire car, so I'll get it."
Oliver was prepared to skip a meal or two in order to cover the cost of Cooper's food but Cooper just grinned.
"I was going to pay for everyone's meal, anyway. You two are the visitors here."
"Absolutely not," Brad said, reaching for the bill and sliding his credit card down on top of it for the waiter to pick up.
Part of Oliver was almost annoyed with his boyfriend’s arrogance.
Brad would rarely help the young man out but of course he liked to show off and be the good guy for everyone else.
It wasn't the first time Oliver had seen Brad pay for someone else's food.
He also suspected he was doing this as a show of dominance and Oliver knew he was right when he looked over at Cooper.
"What do you even do? I don't think that came up in conversation."
"Deep sea fishing for part of the year and then I help my dad with his logging business the rest of the year."
Brad nods slowly.
"Doesn’t that get tiring, all the manual labor?"
Oliver knew that was a dig at Cooper and he kicked Brad's foot under the table.
Cooper, however, was too classy to stoop to Brad's level.
"It's good, honest work. And yeah, I sleep pretty well at night. I really enjoy being on the open ocean and working with my dad and brother when I am not at sea. I don't think I'd do too well at a job that was indoors."
"There's something for everyone," Brad says.
"Anyway, we should get going and it sounds like you have a long drive back home."
"It was no trouble. I'm glad I could help out and I wanted Oliver and your trip to go well."
They leave the restaurant and walk Cooper over to his truck.
Oliver was disappointed his time with his new friend was coming to an end and he hoped he'd get the chance to see him again.
Oliver give his Cooper a hug, squeezing tightly right before he lets go.
"Thanks again for your help."
"Anytime."
Cooper shakes Brad's hand again and then gets into his truck, giving them a final wave as he drives off.
"Now that that's done with, we can go back to the hotel and relax," Brad says.
Sighing, Oliver follows him as they walked back to their hotel.
They'd probably sit in the hot tub again and then Brad would get distracted watching something on TV.
It was times like these when Oliver felt like he was missing out on the things he really wanted to do and Brad was the one holding him back.
- Cooper -
‘I hated Brad. Hated him.’
Brad was such a dick to Oliver and Cooper doesn't think Oliver even realizes the extent of it.
The young man was probably so used to it he didn't even notice how bad it was.
Brad clearly doesn't give a shit about him.
He was condescending to Oliver and basically ignored him and it was clear he didn't appreciate this trip that Oliver had planned for the two of them.
Brad didn't deserve Oliver at all and Cooper was so mad about it that he wanted to floor it down Highway 101, pushing his pick-up truck far past the speed limit.
But he didn't because he was a calm man.
He rarely got angry.
He did get sad though and right now he was sad for Oliver and sad for himself.
Oliver deserved better and it was unfair that an asshole like Brad was walking around with an incredible boyfriend like Oliver but Cooper didn't have anyone at all.
If he had a boyfriend, he'd never treat him the way Brad treated Oliver.
Instead of continuing his pity party, Cooper took a deep breath.
Honestly, he didn't know that much about Oliver.
Maybe he wasn't as great as he thought.
Maybe he had some major flaws that Cooper wasn't aware of.
He shouldn't get this worked up over a guy he'd only met three days ago.
A guy he had no chance with because not only was he in a relationship but he and Cooper came from two different worlds.
Oliver probably liked the posh city life, days filled with brunches and happy hours with other guys who looked like him and he wouldn't be interested in living in a rural town or dating a guy as big and hairy and unsophisticated as him.
Cooper shook his head.
What He needed to do was put Oliver out of his mind and focus on the people who did love him.
Instead of going home to sulk, he heads towards his parents' house

in response to Current Events I feel like playing with fire and seeing what I can still get away with, and also I can’t post any proper finished art because my car is currently illegally parked halfway to my house and I am stuck at my mom’s place until the snow melts, so here’s a very uncensored WIP of Khatte getting railed by an entire merc band of trandoshans
#it's a revamp of an old [redacted]tober sketch#I liked the general idea but it needed work and then mercury mentioned trandoshans and yknow#it's only a little illegal#it was either let people push me into the bus stop or stay stuck in the middle of an icy road on a slope#the tow company couldn't help because the roads were so bad#I'm skeptical of this though because the guy did not tell me that#he told me he was going to make a u-turn and then simply never came back and didn't answer my calls#so I called the company and they just yelled across the office to each other without putting me on hold#and then THEY told me that the tow truck couldn't get me and hung up before I could ask if there were any other options#so I called back again and they told me to call a friend with snow tires or something#so uh yeah not a great towing company#fortunately my mom lives 30 minutes away from me and has all wheel drive so I'm crashing with her until it gets above freezing#which should be about a week#I will laugh if my car gets towed

It’s Always Been Her For Him, But It’s Always Been You For Me// JEAN KIRSCHTEIN X FEM! READER X REINER BRAUNN
Modern AU!
Words counted: 2365
~~~
She knew it wouldn't have lasted, she can tell that he still has feelings for her but she loved him to much. Y/n L/n, she's in love with the horse face boy, Jean Kirschtein. The way he looks at her, the way he treated her, the way he talked about her to her and his friends, was nothing the way he did with her. The fact that it's her best friend, and she knows that her best friend doesn't like him. The girl I'm talking about is Mikasa Ackerman. Y/n boyfriend is in love with her best friend and she didn't feel the same.
And that day hit her like a pile of tow trucks. Y/n went to go surprise Jean for his birthday, and from that plan went down hill when she arrived at his house. His mom let her in, telling her that his best friend Marco is here and they both will be happy to see her.
As the h/c girl walks to the outside of her boyfriends room, she hears his confession. "I feel so awful! I been dating her for almost two years and I'm still in love with Mikasa." His voice booms on the other side of the door. "Just the way her hair flows, the way her eyes glow, the way she can take charge and just everything about her." One tear falls from the girls face. "I don't know how- I don't know how to break up with Y/n... I mean I do care for her but it's different, I don't know if it's more than Mikasa or less... I should tell her..”
"You should, you been leading her on for about two years." A voice that didn't sound like Marcos, which is in fact Reiners. "It's kinda of a dick move."
"Haven't you done it?" Marco questions it.
A huff escapes from the blondes lips, "for a few months, not two years. Look man, she's probably coming over later and you should tell her."
"We been telling you for the past year." Marco agrees with their other friend.
A soft knock is heard from Jean's door. "What is mo-" The three boy's face drops to see Y/n standing there in tears.
"Happy birthday." With that she drops the things she bought him and ran out the house. Jean stood frozen, he couldn't believe that she was there listening to that.
He grabs the two bags to see what were inside, his widen to see the new game system he's been wanting since it came out, along with a few games he also wants. "She's really in love with you, just like you are with Mikasa." Reiner states after seeing what she got him.
The first thing Y/n did when she got home was call her friend. When she came over, she brought over some f/f(favorite flavor) ice cream and the two of them watch her favorite movies. "Do you want me to beat his ass?" Her best friend bluntly states.
Y/n shakes her head, "If you do like him, Mikasa, it's okay."
A small giggle escapes her lips, "Even if I did, I wouldn't. For one, you know who I like. Two, you bought him the new game system that cost over four hundred bucks, along with some games, I deserve to beat his ass. It'll be my birthday present to him." A sigh escapes Y/n lips, "You don't deserve him, he didn't realize how much you love him."
"It doesn't matter now, now does it?" She questions her friend, stabbing at the ice cream with her spoon. "Am I heartbroken? Yes. But am I surprised? A little, but I'll get over it. It might take a few days...or weeks... or months... eventually I will." She places her best fake smile for Mikasa, so she doesn't have worry.
~time skip~
Y/n walks into her last class, and only class she shares with her ex boyfriend. Jean tried to speak to her but she has most of her classes with Mikasa, and she refuses to let him talk. And with the classes that Y/n doesn't share with Mikasa, she shares with Eren and he tried to get into a fight with Jean a few times when he walked into class trying to talk to you. But of course, this is the only class you didn't have with either of them.
Luckily, she has Historia and Ymir in her last class too. "We heard what happened..." the blond female asked.
"I'm okay." Y/n flashes a fake smile, a smile that Jean notices as he stares at her instead of listening to the teacher. His heartache after you left, he even told the two friends he had in his room.
Ymir lets out a laugh, "You're not. He admitted his feelings for your best friend yesterday."
"I mean..I'm still in love with him, but I- if he wants to chase after Mikasa when she clearly has feelings for Eren as everyone knows it, he can. If he's happy with it, then I'm happy. I just want him to be happy, even if it's not with me." She rants to her two friends.
"Class!" Their teacher shouts, causing everyone to get quiet.
After class, Mikasa, Eren, and Armin stand next to Y/n last room door. When she walks out, the four walk to their lockers. "You should switch classes-" Eren started off.
"-I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to loose this class because of him." Y/n stated, then sighs. "I know you guys are looking out for me."
This went on for months, "We can always tell your dad-" once again she cuts off Eren.
"That's not right, just because he's the principal doesn't mean I'll use the power of it." She states.
Mikasa sighs, "Why do you even still love him?"
"Why does he even still love you?" Y/n snaps back, giving shock to the trio. "Sorry.. I just... it's been hard to get over him. We been together for almost two years... I don't think I'll ever get over him."
As the tension rises of jealousy, Armin spoke up to cut it. "Are you going to the Christmas dance?"
The e/c girl shakes her head, "I don't think I am."
"Come on, lets go together." Mikasa offers, a sigh escapes the girls lips before agreeing. "Great." After school, Mikasa and her go to Y/n's house to get dressed. "I know that you don't want to go because you know who will be there, but I'm glad you are. It's been a while since the four of hung out."
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't let Jean get to me to much. Tonight it won't happen." After those sentences, someone knocks at the door. This causes both her and Mikasa to quickly put shirts back on(since they were changing).
Both girls walk to the door, opening to see surprisingly Reiner with flowers and chocolates, blushing looking away from the two girls. "H-hey." He clears his throat. "Can I talk to Y/n?" A smirk appears on the the raven haired girl before walking into a different room.
"Reiner? Wha, what are you doing here?" A blush comes across her face as she looks at the flowers he brought. Her favorite, along with her favorite chocolate.
"I know that you're not really over Uh Jean, but would you like to go to the Christmas dance with me?" He asks, handing her the flowers and chocolates. Before she can answer, he spoke once more, "It's okay if you don't..."
"I'd like to." She cuts him off with a smile.
"I get that I'm his friend but- wait you said you will?" Y/n gave a nod, holding the smile on her face.
"Of course. Where are we going to meet?" She asks him.
"I'll stand outside the school, waiting at seven." He smiles widely, wrapping his arm around the small girl. "See you later." He pulls away then walks off to his car with a huge smile on his face. Even though he has admit he has done what Jean has done to Y/n, but it was because he's in love with her. Reiner Braunn is in love with Y/n L/n. And he hoping to change her mind of his friend and have her fall in love with him.
Once y/n closes the door, a blush and smile is stuck on her phone. "Does someone have a date to the dance tonight?" Mikasa asks as she notices the smile on her face.
She giggles, "Yeah..." she spoke in a loving tone, something she hasn't done in months. Y/n always had a liking in Reiner but hasn't really spoke to him only when he was with Jean. "Let's watch a movie? We have about five hours-"
Mikasa shakes her head, "I have two hours, Eren and Armin are going an hour after it opens." Y/n gave her sad eyes, trying to have her stay for the five hours. "Your puppy eyes won't work on me like the other two. I'll see you later. Maybe you'll kiss Reiner, I heard there's a lot of mistletoes." Mikasa winks before walking out the door.
A groan escapes the only person in the house, "What to do..." she whispers to herself before going to her room and turning on Netflix. As she watch a her favorite show, she started to drift off the sleep, so she quickly set an alarm in two hours before knocking out.
Once she woke up, she felt pain through out her stomach. Y/n quickly ran to the bathroom, only find it was her time of the month. Tears fall down her cheeks as the pain was so bad, she takes some aleve to light up the pain.
After she got dressed into her (color) dress and black wedge, the pain stayed as it's only a few minutes before she has to leave to meet up with Reiner. "I need to tell him I can't go.." she mumbles to herself. Y/n takes out her phone and clicks on his name, calling him.
"Y/n, are you on your way?" His voice sounds excited.
As tears falls from her face she spoke, "I-I'm Sorry." She stutters our.
"What's wrong?" He asks in a concerned tone.
She shakes her head, "N-no. My st-stomach hurts so much. I don't th-think I can make it. I'm s-so sorry."
“It’s okay, I’ll swing by-” Y/n cuts him off.
“-You don’t have too. I’ll see you Monday.” She sniffs before hanging up. The e/c girl climbs onto the bed, curling up into a ball of pain and tears. Still with her (color) dress on and heels.
After thirty minutes her door opens, “Dad please not now.” She mumbles, pressing her head against the pillow with pain going through her stomach.
“It’s uh, not your dad.” A familiar voice spoke.
She lifts her head to see her date. “Reiner? Why are you here?” She spoke with glossy eyes.
He chuckles before sitting next to her, “Well, since your stomach hurts, and as you always say that for your period, I wanted to make sure your okay. Here,” he hands her some of her favorite chocolates and candy.
A blush runs across her face, “Reiner, you didn’t-”
His finger goes to her lips, “I wanted to-I wanted to tell you at the dance. But since you couldn’t make, I’ll tell you now before you find someone else.” A confused look runs across the girls face after he removes his finger. “I’ve liked you for a while. Well, more like love you for a while. Before you were dating Jean.”
“But the other girls- the girls you used-” His places his finger on your lips once more.
“When Jean dated you, and kept tell Marco and I how much he loves Mikasa made my blood boil. But I also did that when I was dating those girls, I kept talking about how much I love you to Bert but you were dating Jean.” He sighs as the blush goes to his cheeks, “I really wanted us to be under the mistletoe tonight so I had a reason to kiss you.”
As it’s a very emotion roller coaster for y/n, her response was to cry. His eyes widen trying to figure out what to do to fix this, apologizing. “Don’t apologize, I’m just emotional right now.” She wipes her tears away before grabbing Reiner hands. “Well, um, I kinda painted the ceiling above me with a mistletoe when I was dating Jean so we could always make out for a reason.” She points above him, with a blush on her face. “There’s a mistletoe.” His head tilted up, to in fact see a painted mistletoe, not a very great painting but it was the thought that counts. “I wanted to take it off because of the memories every night, but you can help me make new ones.” Blush burns into both the their faces.
“You sure?” Reiner asks as his face is red, but luckily is dark enough to not be able to see it.
“Yeah.” Y/n smiles as does he. “I’m guessing that you’re going to help me get over him?”
“I hope so, but this will sound harsh, but you need to understand that it will always be her for him, but it’s always been you for me.” With that he captures her lips in his with his hand holding her cheek and other holding her back.
She wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. She loves the way their lips move together, like nice and soft clouds. Reiner slowly places her back on the bed, with him hovering above her, without breaking the kiss. The more they kiss, the less clothes they kept. “I’m so in love with you.” He mumbles against her lips.
“Good. I may be in love with you.” She says back, bring their lips back together.
Car Ride Confessions
"Come on, come on," Rain muttered, waiting on any kind of response from their ride home. They'd just worked a double shift the day before, then got no sleep due to Edgeworth calling for a second autopsy. They had just finished their regular shift, and felt their bones aching.
Finally, an answer. "Hey dude, I know I was supposed to pick you up from work, but my car broke down, I gotta get a tow truck out here. I'm so sorry!"
Rain bit their tongue to keep in the groan of frustration that they felt throughout their whole body. It wasnt their friend's fault that his car had broken down, things happened. This was just some bad luck all around. "No worries, I can just take the bus or something. Thanks anyway." They hung up the phone, then glanced at the bus schedule they kept pinned in their office, skimming it.
"Are you kidding me?!" They really did groan this time, seeing the big red x over the date. The busses were down for some kind of holiday and wouldn't be running. Their apartment wasnt too far to walk home on a good day, when they hadn't been awake for a day and an half with no sleep, but that day was unfortunately not today.
They glanced down at their cell phone again, remembering what Dick had told them previously; "If you need anything at all, pal, just call!" But did they really want to bother him at work for something so trivial? Maybe if they just sucked it up and tried to walk it, it wouldnt be so bad.
They stifled a yawn, dragged their body out of their rolling office stool, and made their way towards the exit just as a clap of thunder roared and rattled the hospital windows.
---
"Hey, pal!" The old and nearly shoddy car pulled up outside the hospital, and detective Gumshoe got out, holding an umbrella to keep the sheets of rain off. "I'm glad you called me, you wouldnt want to walk home in this!" He walked with them to the car door and opened it for them as well, making sure they stayed dry on top of it all. After they were securely inside, he ran around to the drivers side, closed the umbrella, and climbed back in. He'd managed to keep mostly dry, save for the bit of rainwater that had gotten his hair wet, though it was a minor amount. He shook his head like a wet dog once he was in the car, "Woo! It sure is wet out there, huh?"
Rain couldn't help but smile at his nature, but they were quite drained from both stress and lack of sleep.
"Ah, hey, I get it. You're tired." He gave a sheepish grin and rubbed the back of his neck, "Why don't you get comfy over there, I'll get you home quick!"
"Thanks, Dick," They yawned, "I really do appreciate it. I'll pay you back for the gas."
"Nuh-uh!" The detective insisted as he pulled away from the hospital, "This one's on me, pal! Think of it as a favor for a friend!"
Rain settled back into the car seat, resting their eyes for just a moment before they heard a familiar snicker. "Mh? What is it?"
"Nothin'!" Dick responded, but his grin said otherwise, "Its just... here it is, a rainy day, and I'm driving home Doctor Rain E. Day!"
The sleepy doctor couldn't help but laugh at this as well, "I think we've been spending too much time together, Dick. That sounds like a joke just bad enough for me to tell!"
"Hey, I thought it was good! I happen to like your jokes!" He kept his eye squarely on the road, knowing that he had more precious cargo than usual. He even waited for them to stop at a red light before speaking again, noticing the way the doctor hugged themself. "Are you cold? The heat isnt working right now but uh," He turned just a bit to reach into the back seat and put up a beige trenchcoat, not unlike the green one he was currently wearing, "You can cover up with this if you want!"
Rain hesitated, but they were a little chilly... and the thought of wearing his old coat carried an air of a kind of intimacy they craved but wouldnt admit to. "Sure, uh, thanks." They splayed it over their lap, but eventually they pulled it up over their bare shoulders, cursing their habit of never dressing for the weather. His coat was surprisingly warm though, and they wondered if he'd worn it recently. It certainly smelled like him still, and that was strangely comforting to them as they curled up a little bit more, letting their eyes rest yet again.
"Oh no," Dick frowned, "We might be here for a little bit. I think the storm knocked out a couple traffic lights and flooded the road." He slowed to a stop behind a line of cars that didnt seem to be budging at all, "Sorry about this, pal. I know how badly you wanted to get home to bed. You must be exhausted." He gave a concerned glance to his friend in the passenger seat, but the sight he got caused him to double take, eyes softening as a smile played on his lips.
Rain was curled up in his old coat and hugging onto it like a comfort item, head rested back against the seat, and they snored just a little bit.
"Poor kid, you really need the rest." His eyes scanned the cars around them, noticing that most drivers were getting frustrated with the stagnant flow of traffic. He, on the other hand, couldn't be more content. The sound of the rain against the car windshield and roof was almost relaxing, as was the steady and rhythmic breathing of his friend beside him.
He stole another glance down to them, frowning as he realized that their neck seemed to be at an uncomfortable angle. He thought about reaching out to move them, but he felt that might be a little awkward, moving them while they slept. The more he looked at that angle though, the more his own neck began to feel sore in sympathy. A quick nudge wouldnt hurt, he assured himself reaching over to turn their head to a less painful looking angle.
Rain, in their sleepy state, readjusted on their own, towards the arm that had just stretched over them. They were scooting closer to him now, snoring turned to sleepy groans and grunts as they tried to get themself into a more comfortable position. Eventually they found their position, and it was with their head right on Dick's shoulder.
Frozen, the detective didn't know what to do. Should he move them and risk waking them up from the rest they needed, or would it be weird for them when he woke them up at home, all snuggled up to his side? He got his answer when the tired doctor's arms locked around his own, making him the comfort item now.
Had the car suddenly gotten warmer? Dick was sweating a bit... And blushing. He was definitely blushing. To say he didnt enjoy one of his closest friends cuddled up to him was a bold faced lie, and actually, he was a bit touch-starved, himself. The gentle warmth of the feelings that spread through his chest was really hard to ignore, and he found himself smiling, too.
"Y'know pal," He spoke quietly for fear of waking them and losing this tender moment, "I always feel like I can say anything around you... You tell me all the time that I can. But there's one thing I've never been able to tell you..." Even with them fast asleep beside him, the words seemed to stick in his throat. What was holding him back? Was it the fear of rejection? The embarrassment? The habit of stuffing down his feelings for too long coming back to bite him?
He felt the words with ever fiber of his being as Rain shifted and let out a whimper in their sleep, and his free hand brushed some rainbow-colored hair from their face.
"You don't make this easy, y'know. The whole, 'Keep a professional work relationship with the pathologist, detective Gumshoe' thing." He thought about the chief's words, and how strange they had seemed at first. Of course that was before he had realized that the funny feeling he got when he spent his lunch hour with Rain wasnt just hunger. Now, here they were, snuggled up together in the middle of traffic and a rainstorm, his whole body aching to spill everything to them, as he so often would.
They knew everything about him; About his past, about his dreams, about what his favorite brand of toothpaste was, but there was one thing they still didnt know. One thing he wished with all his heart he could find the courage to say out loud.
"I..." He took a deep breath, tilting his head down so that it rested on top of theirs, "Have feelings for you. And I can hear it now," He did his best impression of Rain, which was really just a voice a few octaves higher than his own, "'I have feelings for you too, Dick! You're a great friend!' But hear me out, pal. I dont know what it is or what it means, but whenever I see you I feel..." he thought for a moment, "That feeling you get in a restaurant when you see your food coming! Yknow that? Its... its like that. Like I see you and everything is so much more exciting!" He let the words tumble out, unable to stop once he got started, "When you smile, it makes me smile. When I tripped over myself that first lunch date and you laughed, yeah, I was a little hurt that you laughed at first, but then I couldn't stop smiling. It kept echoing in my head, and I knew I'd do anything to hear you laugh like that again."
He took a deep breath, letting out a sigh. "I know you didn't hear any of that, but... Thanks for listening anyway, pal. You always listen to me."
In attempts to clear his mind from the muddled feelings that swam around and the butterflies that were now freely flying around his stomach, he turned on the radio just loud enough so he could hear it. This was gonna be a long ride...
He looked down at Rain and found their peaceful sleeping face with a smile on it.
Then again, maybe this ride wouldn't be quite long enough for him.
