(Everyone else: that is somehow the most depressing bright side we never want to hear)
#my characters#oops i fell in love#I just think its really funny how i view so many of the cast as either the only child or#somehow still the only child but with twin cousins that he grew up with somewhat like siblings but is older than them#and then THESE TWO LOSERS (beloveds) are definitely younger siblings#there is no way Karen developed her personality without the help of older brothers#there is also a very funny and agonizing thing where she is super single cause she can't view a guy as more than a brother#she meets an asshole and is like wow just getting huge brother vibes from him wtf#and meets the nicest man possible and is like HOW IS HE ALSO LIKE A BROTHER I WILL NEVER LOVE ROMANTICALLY#and she has all of the guy friends and its very clear if they were interested she has long since friendzoned them#but its fine because they all are also convinced that shes exactly what it would be like to have a brother#so its fine its all good no one really agonizes over not romancing her and she just as a found family in everyone#hi my name is salmon and you may recall my feheroes experience where i want to give a certain male all of the siblings#the sibling adopter extraordinaire ? yeah thats basically karen now that i think about it#you know one time at work at my first job there was a girl who had a crush on a guy and we all worked the same shift a lot#and one day she was whining because he was so friendly to me and he looks at the girl straight faced and says#ITS BROS BEFORE HOES aint that right and im like uh huh sure thats exactly right#and later i told him i really wanted to know where she went wrong because i had a crush on him in school until he opened his mouth#and hes like yeah sucks to wanna date me you made the right choice#and i just ..... will never forget that weird guy#he saw me in a hoodie once and goes NO WAY I HAVE THE SAME ONE and then makes sure he brings it in next time we work together to prove it#he was like an annoying younger brother to me and i thought it was very funny that apparently i too am a sibling to him#i might be adopted and i might be biased but i think everyone could use an adopted sibling that they dont live with#thats a special bond ok im just sayin#also sorry its so late tonight i had some uhhhhhh problems haha

Do you have any fics with Jason just being a Bro™️? Or any with him rejoining the family after UTRH?
For the sake of this post not being too long, I am going to rec only one fic or series from an author, but all of these authors are great writers so I recommend checking their other works as well. Hope you will enjoy this fics as much as I do!
1. Jason and Damian being bros
1.1 Bet on it by Lysical
Even Damian could admit that his older siblings occasionally had their uses. __
"I need your assistance," Damian said, voice low and tense.
"No," Jason replied, and hung up.
Short but adorable story of Jason helping out Damian to hide something from their father, just like big brothers out to do.
1.2 Cracked Foundation by Cdelphiki
The last thing Damian expected to happen when he ran away from home was to spend a day crammed into a small space with Jason Todd. His father's second son was a black sheep. An outcast. An angry, insanity driven criminal who enjoyed screwing with the batfamily in every way he could. At least, that's what Damian thought. Maybe he was wrong about Todd.
Perfect hurt/comfort with a lot of family feels and Damian and Jason bodning. Bonus points: Jason actually apologizing for shooting him; exploration of Bruce’s relationships with them both too.
1.3 Good Grief by lysiabeth
“I know who you are, you know. I got my degree at GCU.” The girl says, eyes boring into Jason’s chest as if the red bat were still plastered on it, and Jason’s back stiffens.
“Right.” Jason’s teeth click together as he closes his mouth. He’s eighteen-hundred miles out from Gotham, and of all the Goddamn vet centres he could have broken into it’s probably the only one around that knows anything about his city.
WIP with 8K words so far but worth early reading and bookmarking/subscribing. Case fic, plus Damian and Jason bonding as siblings through Talia? Leviathan also plays a part in this story? Hell yeah.
1.4 Jason and the Three Terrors by Cdelphiki
One moment, Jason was peacefully sleeping, perfectly content with his life with the League of Assassins. Okay, so maybe not content content, but he wasn't unhappy, either. Then Talia woke him up at 2 am, threw three children at him, and told him to get them to America and far away from Ra's al Ghul.
What the fuck.
The last thing he wanted was to see Bruce. But with three brats relying on him and no Talia, there weren't many options for sanctuary. He just didn't expect the kids to grow on him so much in two short weeks.
A superb AU where Jason helps Damian escape League of the Assassin (against his wishes and with two unwanted additions to boot, which is half the pleausure). They aren’t brothers, stictly speaking, at the start of the fic, but become them as the story progresses.
It’s a WIP but it has 50K already and it will be so much more. I am excited with every update and I’m sure you’re gonna be, too.
2. Jason being a brother to Cassandra
2.1 Nests and Cages series by LanternWisp, Lysical starting with Needles or Pins
Jason Todd's journey back to the Batfamily. Takes place in the Frankenstein's monster of a canon I've stitched together. Each plot is rather self-contained, but the fics do flow into one another
Jay and Cass are bio siblings, and Jason’s slow return to the fold. I love this series, and I think it’s one of the greatest take on Lady Shiva being Jason’s mother too.
2.2 Didymous by Hinn_Raven
Didymous: adjective: growing in pairs or twins.
Cassandra and Jason are born twins, raised by their father to be killers. Two heads are better than one.
It’s a great AU with Jay and Cass being biological siblings.
2.3 the patron saint of the lost causes series by evanescent
Pre-Flashpoint AU based on canon what-if Lady Shiva was not only Cassandra's biological mother, but Jason's, too. Mostly focuses on Cass and Jason's relationship, and how that fact changes the dynamics in Batfamily.
It is also a great series with Cass and Jay being biological siblings and I recommend reading every fic of this series.
2.4 Rebirth by Ionaperidot
"The boy is clearly ill, and while she’s almost certain that he is, impossibly, Jason Todd, almost is not good enough. She can’t drop heartbreak on her beloved’s doorstep, and she can’t run the necessary tests when Damian is vulnerable to her father’s wrath. There’s no way around it. He’ll have to come home with her."
Unexpectedly in charge of a second son, Talia struggles to raise her children without unwanted attention from the Demon's Head.
An AU where Talia is the one who unites Cass and Jason. It also contains Damian, and he’s a little brother to them both.
3. Jason and Duke being bros
3.1 Bats are Dorks by Reah22
Duke hadn’t meant to literally trip and fall on to Jason. He really hadn’t. For the record, he blamed Steph. It was probably one of her old pranks that she forgot to take down. That, or she deliberately left it up for someone to trip over in the dark.
Just Duke and Jason, hanging out. Super nice.
3.2 oh, where do i begin? by LazuliQuetzal
“No, no, nothing’s wrong,” Jason says. “We’re a-okay. Just peachy. Good times.”
“Oh,” Duke says, lamely, working himself out of crisis mode. There’s an awkward silence for a moment before he speaks up again. “Why did you call?”
“Right, right," Jason mumbles, which seemed a little out of character to Duke. His sort-of wayward brother was generally intimidating, even when he wasn't trying to be. "Uh, Dick said that you had a guinea pig when you were younger. How do you take care of a guinea pig?” _____
AKA, not-exactly accidental guinea pig acquisition
Absolutely adorable short story about Jason going to his little brother for advice.
3.3 rockstar au series by addiebey starting with disconnect:
jason and duke bond. dick just doesn't get it, but what's new?
Another great no-capes AU. Only two fics from the series, both under 1k, are focused on Duke and Jason, but they are so great. The whole series is, actually, though it’s not finished. I am just grateful even this much exists, but I am definitely bookmarking and subscribing it in case there will be more. Please give this series the attention and praise it deserves.
There are, alas, not many Duke and Jason-centered fics. Though there is another one I wanted to recommend, about Jason training Duke, but I can’t find it for some reason. It was short and funny, and if anyone recognizes this description, I would be glad if you told me.
4. Jason and Dick being bros
4.1 i was naive and hopeful and lost by heroics (figure8)
Clark and Bruce take in a troubled teen.
The The Fosters AU no one asked for.
It’s a part of the series which is one of the best no-capes AU I’ve read, if not the best, and it’s a great family-focused fic with a good parent Bruce. The road for Jason to become Dick’s and the rest of the kids’ brother is slow but greatly written.
4.2 To Reconcile by CasualDanger
“Babs slapped me at your funeral.” Jason goes to laugh, but it’s just a cough and his mouth barely even twitches up. “She hated me in that moment. I mean, really, really hated me, like I did Talia after I found out Damian had died. And I wondered,” his voice cracks, eyes glassy now, “did you hate anyone when I was gone? Because I was gone?”
Short and emotional fic where Dick and Jason open up to each other during pressing circumstances.
4.3 Five Times Dick Grayson Read about Jason Todd in the Newspaper by Engineerd
If Dick hadn’t been special ordering the Gotham City Gazette, he wouldn’t have found out for - well. Years, at this rate.
Short and very full of emotion story. I love the exploration of Dick’s almost unchanging attitude toward Jason - well, unchanging right before the last time he would read about him (or almost the last time). They’re not really close here, and won’t grow closer, but sometimes siblinghood is like that.
4.4 The View From Jade by lowflyingfruit
Being transported to the past is not the sort of thing one normally expects. But this having happened, and with no easy way back, Jason's determined to make the most of it. Though the Bat still stalks Gotham's streets, the city's crime is run by the mobs instead of the rogues. There's no Joker yet.
There's no Robin.
Maybe there shouldn't be.
Time Travel Jason&Dick focused AU! One of the best time travel fics where they actually change stuff even if it doesn’t transit to their universe - for exception of their more strong brotherly relationships.
5. Jason and Stephanie being bros
5.1 this time, the loser wins by parkerstorms
They were two sides of the same coin. They understood each other. It was nice. It was a downright relief. She’d never had a big brother before.
There’s not a lot of Jason and Steph being bros stories I have not mentioned before, but this one is one of them, and a great one too.
6. Jason and Tim being bros
6.1 Bonding Habits of Robins by GoAwayOlivia
Giving each other shit is how the bat brothers show they care. Jason and Tim do it particularly well.
It’s a funny and nice fic with exactly what’s said in the summary.
There’s a lot of fics with Jason and Tim being bros but my memorie went blank when I tried to recall. Which is not a statement about their relationships or quality of fics that depict them, it’s just sometimes my memory doesn’t work properly. This is the case with the Jason and Steph, too. As soon as I remember or discover new fics about their relationships, I am going to update this post or maybe create a new one just for the three of them. We’ll see!
7. Batfam Jason-featured sibling relationships
7.1 If the Sky Comes Falling Down (For You) by lurkinglurkerwholurks
or, 5 times Jason Todd saved his siblings... and one time they saved him.
It was only by luck that Jason was still there when the bodies came crashing down the street. Bad luck, he would argue. He could hear them long before he could see them, their bodies preceded by the thunderous pounding of boots of asphalt and shouted curses. Three or four figures flashed by his little alleyway, a tight mob followed by a lone, slender figure in a streaming cape.
Summary speaks for itself. It’s a gradual description of Jason slowly coming back to the family after UtRH and starting feeling like their brother.
7.2 this is a long drive (for three robins who don't agree on much) by drakefeathers
(Bad Robins road trip AU!) Steph’s trip home to Gotham takes a huge detour thanks to Jason and Damian’s conflicts with airport security. She’s stuck driving the two brothers cross-country to reach Tim’s wedding in time.
Damian, Jason & Steph bonding road trip AU that warms your heart. Seriously, if you like any of these characters, you read this.
7.3 on a thin chain of moments and something like faith series by irnan
Jason really oughta know better than to talk to Bats.
Jason bonding with both Steph and Cass! Love it. It’s fluff and angst, which is hard to pull off together, but it works here. It also, in places, incredibly funny. I love re-reading it from time to time.
7.4 Tremor by LueurdeLaube
Nobody can tell Jason Todd that joking about his own death is not a valid coping mechanism.
Not about Jason being a bro per se but about Batfam and Jason so I hope it counts!
7.5. the lost sidekick society by redtruthed
The batkids make a group chat.
Chaos ensues.
One of the best groupchat AU for Batfam.

Past 1, 3, 6, 8 for Jason my beloved and Present 5-8 for Jenny annnd Future 2, 5, 7 for Helena! 😏
─ JASON
1. Briefly describe the way their parents grew up, and how it affected the way they raised them.
Both his parents were two regular middle class new yorkers, Frank (his dad) grew up in New York's suburbs and had a very conventional upbringing, he was the middle child of three siblings and thus kind of ignored so he usually just minded his own business... that very much carried over into adulthood, he was very reclusive and didn't really bother spending much time with his family -_-
Jason's mom, Gina, was a 2nd generation italian-american who grew up in a huge family with a billion siblings and cousins who are all very different from her husband. She liked it in the beginning but she became more and more unhappy and kind of underwhelmed. She really projected all her dreams of ever becoming someone on her kids that failed with her because she was stuck in a boring marriage with the most unambitious and boring man ever 😑
3. Describe their family. Who raised them, and who had the most impact on them? Did they have any siblings? Who were they closest to? What were the family dynamics like?
This ties in with the previous question but Frank was a bit of a loser, not particularly attractive and more timid & shy.. he was a very unambitious guy who worked a boring office job all his life without any intention of climbing the ladder. He really spent most of his time off work with his boring little loser hobbies :/
Gina was a much more spirited and lively person than her husband, Jason takes a lot more after her than his dad. She wasn't a great mother by all means due to the fact that she was unhappy in her marriage and with her life and kind of took that out on her kids, in a way where she placed certain expectations on them which Jason never really met. They weren't particularly close due to Jason's more.. rebellious nature he had as a kid, which in turn made him cause more trouble because that was the only way his parents gave him any attention at all :/ He also has an older brother, Richard, who their mother very obviously favored. Frank didn't really give a fuck about either of his sons -_-
He had a very close relationship with his mother's family though, particularly with one of her brothers. Carlo (said uncle) was a lot like him and never had any kids on his own so he became somewhat of a father figure to Jason :-)
6. Did the location they grew up in affect them significantly? Do they still go there?
He grew up in some little house in New York's suburb, not the prettiest house there because they didn't make enough for one of the nicer looking ones. He's not that fond of the boring suburbs (even in Boston), he spent more time in the city with his relatives and preferred that over his actual home. Other than that it didn't affect him much 🤷♀️
8. What was their childhood/teenage bedroom like?
A small little room with an ugly sports wallpaper that his parents never bothered to replace as he got older. It always looked a little messy and had a few mismatching mid-century decorations and furniture in there. As he grew older he started to cover the walls with random posters he had, to hide the ugly baseball wallpaper.
─ JENNY
5. What kind of people do they usually interact with? Who are their friends, the people they look up to/trust, and who are their “associates”?
She interacts with all sorts of people in New Bordeaux' criminal underworld - if you do anything illegal chances are you'll know Jenny. As for her actual friends, she's friends with the 3 other criminal 20 year olds in town, Danny, Lincoln, Ellis, unfortunately Giorgi (frenemies would be more fitting) and Lena. Her closest and best friends would definitely be Gavin (of @dannyburke fame)and Juliet (of @jennystahl fame) though, they're also pretty much the only ones who would fall into the "people she trusts" category... they're the only ones she'll have long weed induced therapy sessions at 1 am while the monkees are on tv.
6. What is their current relationship with their family?
Complicated... the love is there and all that, it's more of a business relationship though rather than a parent-child thing, especially with her dad. It's nothing that she ever questions (until aforementioned therapy sessions with her friends), she grew up in an environment where affection isn't really something she sees often and almost all her friends have messed up relationships with their parents too so while there is some resentment she never really questions that the way they raised her might not be ideal :c
The relationship with her siblings is complicated as well, especially because they're both a LOT younger than her. She was an only-child until the age of 13 and moved out of her childhood home when they were eight and six years old so there's this weird disconnect but there's a relationship nonetheless, which is weird. Eldest daughter AND only child disease 😓Not to mention that her parents are looking to make her little brother head of the family because he's a boy or whatever.. drama!
7. Do they have a partner? How did they meet, and what’s their relationship like now?
Yes.. she and Ellis met on some random job in the Hollow in 1963 that her dad was taking her along with (he and Sammy did random deals together and were also good friends 😌) and Jenny was like wow how boring. What if I just talk to this this guy's sons instead.... she thought he was some annoying teenage guy and only really talked to him whenever necessary (when her dad's business trips to Sammy's got REALLY boring). She forced herself to hang out with him more after Lincoln went to Vietnam and realized he's not so bad so they became friends :)
In actual game canon nothing really happens because he dies, Jenny just becomes sad that her friends were killed (him, Danny, Sammy and maybe Michael too because of Juliet connection.. she doesn't give a fuck abt Giorgi anymore that little rat can die) and wonders if she liked that goofy little guy with the ugly shirts, but in any case it's too late now.
We're doing au's here though (also this is as of '68) so in the good timeline they get together in 1968.. sort of. It's not a friends with benefits thing, more that sort of relationship that you know will end sooner or later for various reasons, so you're kind of living in the moment and have fun while it lasts. It IS genuine and not just about hooking up from time to time of course, it's just not the kind of thing that was built to last because it's based off of a dumb 20 year olds friendship and one of them (Jenny) doesn't really plan on sticking around in New Bordeaux. But well, who knows what will happen 😏
8. What hobby or pastime of theirs do they consider most important to them and why?
Well, she's big on making music, she plays the guitar and sings (she has a pretty nice voice c: ), she grew up in a pretty fucked up environment so that was her sort of escape in her youth, to be a normal kid who's playing the guitar very very badly. She doesn't play it badly as a 23 year old anymore of course and it's a little thing she shares with her best friends so that means a lot to her 😳
─ HELENA
2. Are they content with their future situation? Is there anything they would change?
Well, she's certainly not happy with the whole vampire situation - her dreams of becoming famous for acting were pretty much ruined, now she's legally dead and nothing more than a photo on true crime blogs and conspiracy theory websites... Famous but for the wrong reasons, in a way she's more bitter about "dying" before she had the chance to become famous than about the whole vampirism thing herself. There would have been something incredibly poetic about a beautiful young actress dying at the height of her career, now she's just some random nobody :/
It could be worse though. She's known among L.A. vampires for her lack of loyalty to any of the factions (despite her working for the Camarilla earlier) and her just helping whoever she feels like which is fine to her, most of them will just leave her alone. In any case, she's not in Los Angeles anymore after the events of Bloodlines!!
5. Did they get married or have a family? Why? If otherwise, why not?
See she would like to get married eventually, making a promise to love someone and be with them for eternity (literally... because... vampires) is incredibly romantic and she would love that (THIS is her wedding... not really because she's not that cringe but also.. yeah), so who knows what might happen.
Family though, no!! Starting one isn't possible, at least not with biological children since she's a vampire. It doesn't bother her that much, she always did envision herself with one child in the future but she's not desperate to be a mother anyway so she doesn't beat herself up about it. She does wonder what it might be like to have children and laments it from time to time (she's a little overdramatic) but overall she doesn't mind that much.
7. Are their friends still a part of their life? Are there people they are no longer in touch with, or newly important people?
Yes, sort of! As I mentioned before she's not in L.A. anymore post-bloodlines and she never had many friends there to begin with so she keeps in touch with the few she has there. She miiight make a few new (or old) connections once shes out of Los Angeles too, who knows!
#THANK U ❤❤❤#three hotties..#i got SO many for Jenny i'm gonna end up having to replay mafia by the time i'm done with this#queennymeria#ask#c: jason#c: jenny#c: helena

Yes, I Mean Aside From the Fact that She Doesn’t Exist
Before you say it, you observant fans you, Daybreaker is just a product of Starlight’s nightmares. Not even Celestia’s herself, which could arguably reveal some deep perception of her greatest faults, but in fact Starlight’s imagination run wild.
I chose the title knowing I’d get that sass (and people who comment before reading), and I’ve made my peace with that.
What I really wanted to examine this summer solstice was, as FimFiction’s Dusk Raven put it, how to break the day (by the way, the topic of the editorial was definitely heavily inspired *cough cough* by the premise of that story, and while I’m going to avoid just straight up ripping off Dusk’s idea for how it could happen, I suggest you check it out if you’d like a good read).
What would break Princess Celestia? How has she stayed strong for so many years in the face of tragedy, heartbreak, and was there ever a temptation to give into those feelings?
Celestia’s a Loser
I of course mean that in the Guardians of the Galaxy sense: a character whose lost a lot.
Only Luna’s isolation could rival Celestia for just how tragic she is. I said in this editorial that in a show called Friendship is Magic, exile is the worst punishment imaginable, but the sheer number of ponies Celestia’s had to lose that were important to her is heartbreaking.
Her mentor, Starswirl the Bearded. Her sister, Luna. Her lover, the Good King Sombra (in the Reflections arc, which I seriously need to stop bringing up...). Her (unfaithful) student, Sunset Shimmer.
And, to a smaller but still meaningful degree, her most faithful student, Twilight.
And lest we forget the fact that being immortal and/or having a long lifespan inevitably means the loss of thousands of friends.
I think more than anything else, these losses are what taught Celestia the value of friendship.
She first seemed to know friendship in The Journal of the Two Sisters, during the time when she and Luna first became princesses and came under Starswirl’s tutelegde. Here, we the see the emergence of her sense of duty to her subjects, something that sticks with her throughout her entire life.
Later, the first issue of Legends of Magic depicts a young (seemingly teenage) Celestia: arrogant, insensitive, and hesitant to show the love and respect for her sister and mentor that’s really there. Quite the jump, but then again, teenagers have a lot on their plates and usually develop quite a lot from when they were younger.
So, while earlier depictions in The Journal of the Two Sisters actually heavily imply she was more like Twilight when she first took the throne (a worrier by nature, yet excited to take on the responsibility with a reverence), here we see an older Celestia whose perhaps a bit too used to her tiny crown and little shoes.
Would it be too on the nose to make comparisons to Icarus? ... Probably.
Next in the order of events, Discord takes over, and I think given the timing, it was Luna and Celestia’s love of their subjects and their kingdom that gave them enough to bond over to use the Elements.
Discord may have initially taken advantage of the fact that at this time, the sisters would’ve been drifting apart---after all, it can’t be long after that Luna becomes Nightmare Moon (both were banished/trapped in stone for one thousand years). So even if their sisterly bond wasn’t as strong as we know it to be, they still managed to come together thanks to a love of how Equestria used to be before their lives got flipped, turned upside down.
Speaking of Nightmare Moon, I know some fans prefer to believe Nightmare Moon is 100% Luna’s fault, no nightmare forces or environmental factors about it. And while I think the choice and the blame should ultimately fall on her, there was a part of the original myth in episode one that was left out. How much Celestia noticed to growing bitterness and depression before it was too late.
Her Legends of Magic depiction implies that even if that teenage arrogance was a just a phase, Celestia’s inability to support her sister only contributed to her eventual downfall. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t supportive or kind at all, just that she couldn’t/didn’t help when Luna needed her.
Most of the blame absolutely still falls on Luna, but given the usual themes of the show, this makes sense as a cautionary tale of what can happen when love and friendship aren’t offered in someone’s time of need.
It’s still my thought that Celestia was able to use the Elements of Harmony by herself because she was acting for what was best for her sisters and her subjects (not just that she’s a one-pony friendship god who doesn’t need others to use the elements). The act of using the Elements of Harmony completely alone makes me think her reasons for using them were why she could pull that off.
And if that’s the case, it seems the biggest lessons she’s had to learn in friendship are how to let somepony go for their own or the greater good.
Just thinking about how many of her loved ones she’s lost or said goodbye to out of a sense of duty, you start to wonder what more could be done to break her spirit (or maybe that’s just me).
Humanize that Horse!
It took us 7 years to get a proper Celestia episode... 7 long years...
For the vast majority of the show, we’ve known Celestia as Twilight knows her. The wise, mysterious, kind, (if mischievous and cake-obsessed) mentor and leader to all Equestria. Because of that, we’ve relied mostly on her backstory and the hints scattered about in her appearances to infer the depths of her character.
She’s played such a nurturing role as a teacher that she’s become quite beloved in the fandom, but the demand for an episode always went hand in hand with the demand to further develop her character.
So, this season we began from a familiar place: her student-teacher relationship with Twilight. But for the first time since Celestia’s Ballad, we got to flip the perspective, and it was so refreshing!
We’re so used to seeing Celestia put trust in Twilight to handle dire situations that it can be easy to assume she never worried about her or their relationship, but it’s heartwarming to know just how much Celestia loves her student. And that she even can get that worried, even if she knows Twilight (whose cutie mark is on the Tree of Harmony) could ultimately be somebody she places a lot of faith in.
In the past, I’ve felt that the IDW comics have often captured more emotion behind the royal sisters than the show has, but with this move, it’s starting to feel like a better balance.
Especially given her next appearance, in A Royal Problem. Here, the sisters have fallen back into the habit of unknowingly neglecting each other’s feelings because of their duties, but this time on a much smaller, less serious scale.
Their sibling rivalry bond elevates it into a fight when it’s brought to their attention, but the solution of A Royal Problem is quite excellent in addressing the flaws fans are fed up with, and the true strengths of both of the royal sisters.
Celestia and Luna not doing enough has been a complaint in the fandom for a while. Even though they’re the countries leaders who by all means should be protected (the vast majority of world leaders aren’t on the battlefield), since they seem really powerful, we want to see them kick ass! Be heroes themselves! If they have the ability to help, it’d be a nice way to show they care at the very least.
But not being the focus of most of those types of stories... well, you’ve watched the show. Finding roles for them can be exceedingly difficult without either taking their power away to prove the severity of the threat.
But here, even when they can’t rely on their powers, Celestia and Luna prove a love for their subjects and for each other gives them the strength to fight on until the day is won. That, more than anything else, is Celestia’s greatest strength. As I’ve said in past editorials, she’ll do what’s right for her subjects and loved ones even at great cost to herself.
So, they’re proactive, capable, and ultimately extremely caring. Throw in a few kick ass show of power (which were illustrated by the dreamscape counterparts at least) and you have exactly what fans have been dying for for years!
Perhaps even more importantly, Celestia and Luna are given the freedom to be characters. They’re allowed to be a little bitter, they’re allowed to be a little anxious, and have minor, silly problems that they need perspective on. They’re both self-centered in their approach to connect with the other, which causes the conflict. Even immortal princesses are still ponies.
So, pardon the phrasing, these two episodes this season have been extremely humanizing. So, coming back to our question at the top, we now know very well that Celestia isn’t a perfect, untouchable goddess, and that things---whether they’re as big as losing a student or as small as her sister not having pancakes with her---can hurt her. She can feel broken.
But unlike the imaginary Daybreaker, Celestia’s managed to keep focus on what would really be best for her subjects by putting them before herself. Because of the sacrifices she’s had to make again and again, Celestia’s learned what it means to be a truly great leader.
What? Editorials? Pony editorials? Oh yeah, I’ve got those! I also have episode reviews (though they’re a biiit behind), and to split the difference, here, have the latest three things I’ve done:
Starswirl Theory, Dr. Wolf Reading of Theory, and Parental Glideance Review
