i feel like people will start pelting me with rocks as soon as i say it but i did not like what the writers did with rhaenyra and mysaria this episode. i have nothing against sapphic representation in stories. i just think it would have way more meaning if the relationship wasn't a half-assed idea thrown in at the last minute for the sake of getting brownie points.

the decision to have them kiss makes no sense to me because a) rhaenyra did not like this woman (you know, the ex-mistress of her husband??) and only barely tolerated her because of daemon, and b) rhaenyra idolised daemon all her life and loved him way too much to cheat on him. the entire scene just feels like another attempt by the writers to appease the fans instead of wanting to stay true to the story martin wrote. there are other canonically queer characters you could bring more attention to instead of doing the bare minimum for the sake of representation.

i feel like whatever narrative choices the writers are making are either for shock value or to appease the fans. house of the dragon is just a poorly written fanfiction of fire and blood at this point. because they're not adapting the characters and the story martin wrote but creating their own headcanons. and it's frustrating to see such a good story be disrespected like that again.

pls do not hate me for this because i know a lot of you are happy and feel represented because of that scene. I'm just frustrated with the show and the writing and wanted to express it. i swear i don't hate queer people 😭.

Rant at me about Sera!

How old was she when she got married btw, because my guess is 18-19? By my math, when Trevor was born, she was probably 20?

Also, funny story (welcome to half asleep Knights of the Alder theories!):

So here’s finally a Sera rant!

I love her so much honestly. Like, she had it kinda tough and still tries to get the best out of it, still tries to make those she loves comfortable.

Much like Talon, even if not to the same degree she has been standing in the shadow of their dead brother. Especially since she was the first child after Thorin died.

Cyrus had wished for a son. Which by no means meant he didn’t love Sera, but he was also a bit… disappointed? Idk how exactly to put it.

She was four when Talon was born and immediately stripped off of the title as heir of the house. Not that four year old Sera cared much about being heir. And later on too she never wanted that title, but she felt kinda guilty that Talon had to play that part because of her.

And she loves her little brother so much. From the day he was born she was absolutely enchanted by him and she wanted to do everything she could to be a good sister to him. And she was!

She played with him a lot and taught him things and shielded him from their father’s expectations a bit (as good as a child could). Little Talon was formed so much by his sister and he really loved her.

They had that little deal that they would become guards together, because it’s been a dream and a passion for both of them. Sera was very good at sword fighting too. That’s why her father let her start guard training in the first place, she had talent and passion.

But Talon wasn’t the only one with expectations on him in the family. Sera had her daughterly duties she was expected to fulfill too. She was basically raised to one day be a good wife, a bride that you could give away to a good family.

Then one day there were words that in the neighbor court a high lord had died and that his son, the new high lord, was in search of a wife. So her father promoted that he’d be a good candidate for an engagement with Sera.

It was honestly a bad timing. Sera was in the midst of guard training. But ever the dutiful daughter and knowing that he was a good party, she agreed with it even when her mother was against the idea.

Sera met the guy and liked him pretty much. He was charming and good looking and not as much of a prick as other high lords and heirs she knew.

She married him at eighteen, before she could complete her guard training. She quit it because of her marriage and pretty much gave up her (and Talon’s) dream. Which is the reason Talon refused to talk with her, he felt left alone and betrayed and was mad she moved and broke her promise.

Sera suffered a lot from her brother’s treatment. She tried fighting for Talon as best as she could, not wanting to lose him. When Trevor was born it got better luckily.

Her marriage started out pretty good. Later it went a bit downhill, though. It’s not like he treated her badly, it’s just that he and his family again had lots of expectations that she had to fit into and it made her a bit uncomfortable. They didn’t let her continue guard training for example.

And her husband, though nice to her, grew more and more distant. After she birthed him an heir, it seemed like he spent less and less time with her. He flirted with other girls too. Sera felt rather lonely.

Trevor was her only light in this situation. She poured all the love she had to offer into him and he loved her in return. Sera is very protective of him, trying to prevent him being groomed into an heir like her brother as best as she can, even though it gets harder to do so.

People think Trevor is too soft. Sera defends him with all she got. She wants the best for him and the more time she spends in her husband’s house the more she starts to doubt that it is good for Trevor to get raised there.

Anyway, Sera is so strong and kind and a good sister and daughter and mother and she’s a real fighter. I have more Sera thoughts but I can’t put them in words so that’s all for now 😭

And no, Sera won’t axe murder her husband, but the idea is interesting (it might seem a bit tempting too, at times. For Talon especially) 😂

The similarities Talon and his nephew have are so sweet honestly 😭 Trevor reminds Sera of her brother a lot

I know it sounds really cool to say a character’s voice ‘dropped an octave.’ Octave is a cool word. But it is a HUGE drop. Imagine going from your normal speaking voice to almost the lowest note you can hit. Like, Optimus Prime with a sore throat kinda voice. THAT is what it sounds like when most people lower their speaking voice an octave.

This is a plea my fellow writers. I humbly offer “dropped to its lowest register” in its stead. Still cool sounding. Doesn’t conjure the thought of characters with demon hell voice. Readers who also know music will clamor at your feet in appreciation. It’s a win all around

Alicent was sent to seduce Viserys but instead she showed him compassion and sympathy and that's why she was made queen which proceeded to traumatize her. She gave birth to 4 children, suffered post-partum depression, made a dramatic entrance which was compared to declaring war without killing any innocent people, saved Criston's life and earned not only his loyalty, but his worship, raised her children alone because Viserys clearly couldn't be bothered, ruled instead of the king for years and cared for him for the entirety of their marriage and his illness, committed treason for Aemond by attacking the heir to the throne with a dagger in public and drawing her blood and stood in front of a fucking dragon for Aegon even though she was not just defenseless but she's also been terrified of dragons her whole life.

im with you 😭 i hate the reboot and the way it ruined the characters forever but theres some aspects of it which i really like and want to consider canon like cleo being explicitly wlw, some of the new characters and whatever the hell jfk and abe had going on, but there's other stuff which id rather forget or pretend isn't canon

I understand you bro! It's not like I hate everything about the reboot, it has some very interesting aspects and details and i do respect them. But yeaahhhh... Some things are just.... let's just pretend they don't exist <3

Honestly i rewatch the reboot more often than the first season and it is pretty fun in general, makes you feel strong emotions (ANGER IS ALSO AN EMOTION BTW), but i'm doomed to skip many scenes (or close my eyes during them lol) just because 1) they're not funny at all 2) they are disgusting 3) they don't make any sense and make me cringe

And if you ignore like 70% of the reboot suddenly it becomes easier to enjoy, funnier and doesn't suck that much <3

Anyways i still respect others opinion on the reboot, i know there are people who fully enjoy it or hate it completely, everything is pretty much subjective!!

Let me start right off the bat by saying that I genuinely mean NO OFFENSE with this(as sarcastic and insincere as ik that’s gonna sound 😢), but…I hope you don’t mind that I hate this take.

First off, Isabela’s character arc is about her being free from the chains of perfection, of being Abuela’s pretty dancing doll, and of only growing perfect pink flowers. Once she’s free to be imperfect, to dress how she wants, and to grow whatever plants she wants, she’s as happy as ever. But that doesn’t mean she became more tomboyish or less feminine as a result. Femininity isn’t just wearing the color pink and being delicate and dainty and docile. You can be wild, loud, free-spirited, and independent and be feminine all at the same time. So by saying she’s a “tomboy” after she stops being perfect, you’re technically saying that being her own person and not conforming to the rules set for her makes her a tomboy and not feminine. As if femininity is inherently lesser, weaker, and more constricting. Which is simply not true.

Also the creators have literally said:

So no, her newfound independence is not a sign that she’s shed her femininity or is now a tomboy. If anything, it’s quite the opposite.

The Luisa one is even weirder to me because…how is she acting like a tomboy? So she’s tall and buff and does a lot of heavy lifting around town…because she has super strength! That’s her gift! The creators had to fight for Luisa to be muscular to go with said gift specifically because the Mouse was scared that girls wouldn’t like a buff girl character and that girls couldn’t be buff because strength is a masculine trait. She’s not acting like a tomboy just because she is buff and strong. Just like Isabela isn’t “actually a tomboy” because she’s rebellious and wants to be more than just pretty.

Because otherwise you’re saying that femininity means fitting into a box and being obedient and submissive to the wants and needs of others. And that being strong and independent automatically makes you masculine. Which is hardly true.

The creators honestly did a great job of showing empowering femininity and that you can be a strong and unique individual without having to lose your femininity. Neither of them are tomboys, they are both feminine in their own way, it’s that simple.
