So now that Gilded Shadows is wrapping up, I am promoting When Stars Collide from "Spare time project" to "Part time project"
What is the difference? Well, when I work on something in my spare time, that means it is late at night or the weekend. Literally when I am not doing anything else and just feel like tinkering with it.
As a part time project, this means that I will be spending an hour or two each day during the work week to do things for this project. It will start making more steady progress even if I'm not focusing on it full time.
This is basically taking it from me spending 0 - 4 hours on it a week to 8-10 hours on it a week.
My goal is to have the draft complete before the end of the year (by 'draft', I mean 'rough draft'). But more on that below.
Summary
Finished all scenes for the new chapter three
Finished Yren chapter 6 scenes
Started catching Kav's route up to the others
Edited Asher's CG to account for the new conference room BG
Small adjustments to Wil's first CG
Ramble
This week my big focus for WSC has been on writing. As I mentioned, I really want to get the rough draft completed by the end of the year. Currently the draft is nearly 70% complete (for those following updates in multiple places, when you see different percentages....it's because I've written more since then. Rofl).
Now, the draft was nearly 70% in the past as well but I added another route since then, so I lost some progress due to the increase in target word count. I'm also calculating things more precisely now as I created a newer and fancier writing spreadsheet to track my progress and keep myself on track.
I went back and wrote in the new chapter 3, reorganising all the existing chapters and scenes to accommodate it.
I finished Yren chapter 6 (which catches him up to Noel and Raif).
And now I'm working on catching Kav, the new character, up to Yren, Noel, and Raif. (Remember, Daaz and Asher's routes are already fully drafted).
I have written about 15000 words since my last update here. I don't expect to write that much every week and my goal is actually a fair bit more modest than that. Gilded Shadows is not 100% complete yet. I still have multiple KS related things to finish and, of course, I will be making corrections and focusing on its beta testing once testers have had a bit more time with it.
WSC is still a part time project. This was just a particularly good week for it.
I have also worked on a few other things for WSC - mostly UI related and some art related things.
I received a new BG since my last update, and realised that...I have to revamp all the existing CGs. Or at least update them to change the background elements. I've only edited one so far but I don't think it'll be too much effort to fix the others.
And I continue to streamline and adjust the UI to make it look nicer and be more efficient.
So...
Kav. The new character. Kav'isari Tiaine, a Ka'mérian crew member who works in the space labs most of the time and specialises in identifying alien technology (what species it belongs to and what it does).
To explain where Kav came from, he actually popped into my head months ago. And every so often, I would contemplate whether or not I wanted to add him. I would say I first had the idea in January or February of this year. I would repeatedly think about it and dismiss it.
I then mentioned it to a friend sort of off-handedly back at the very beginning of June. A month and a half later, I mentioned him on a voice call on my server knowing full well that if I really talked about him and had a conversation about him, I would probably end up doing enough character brainstorming that he would become "real." And I talked about him anyway.
And that's exactly how he became an actual character. I think I had his sprite sketched out by the end of that day.
But he had existed as a concept long before that. The main reason I was willing to add him instead of ruthlessly telling myself no is just that I felt there was a gap in the cast for a gadfly style character who has a little mystery to him. And I just knew I could manage another route based on the length of Asher and Daaz's routes.
So...yeah. That is how Kav came into being. His introduction into the story has caused a few minor changes to standing lore or things in the prologue (just mentions of him, etc). But the changes to the currently public content of the game are pretty minor.
Kav won't actually appear in the game until Chapter 3. He gets mentioned a few times up to that point. There are some logistical considerations to his route but I have talked about those more on Patreon.
Speaking of Patreon, now that WSC is moved into "part time" status, I will be starting to slowly release some Patreon-exclusive lore posts for this game there. Like most games monetised through Patreon content, the lore posts will not be critical to having a full and complete game experience. Rather, it is going to be comprised of additional and extra lore content.
Some of the lore content released on Patreon will be in the game (such as character back stories) but Patrons will get to see it early and will get it presented in a different format.
Much of the content can be considered "extras" rather than necessary.
I will also be updating on the development progress weekly there (available to all patrons) rather than bi-weekly, and my updates there (going forward) will tend to be more detailed than the ones here.
Once episode releases start, Patrons will be able to access them before they the public releases. But backing on Patreon is not necessary to be able to play the game and get a full and complete game experience. It's just how this particular game will be monetised as I'm looking for more sustainable release styles so I can continue to make games.
That is all for this update. I will see you in a couple of weeks to talk about WSC again!

Hello! I was just curious as to if you write every day? I know that you have a full time job and everything and things can be stressful for you but finishing such a long ass story like what you owe and updating everyday when u did kiss for Kate bishop fic is just crazy. I swear ao3 authors are just different breeds lol.
yes, I do write every day now, but I never used to. I started back in September 22, giving myself a daily goal. I then gave myself a monthly goal and then several secret goals to trick my ADHD and executive dysfunction into starting the writing process at all.
More detailed description under the cut!
This is my word output since September 22:
(Dark Yellow is Goal. Light Yellow is Actual Word Count)
December 22 to March 23 was not as productive for me, because I was on the verge of finishing What You Owe and I was getting burnt out on it after, like, 180k of working on the same thing.
I keep myself motivated by keeping an excel sheet where i track my progress:
Starting Point and End Point turn green when I reach 100 words, and Word-Count turns victory blue when I reach 201. I'll be keeping my monthly goal at 10k from now on, because that is a realistic number even for a really bad month. that way, if I ever fail to go beyond 10k, I won't be disappointed. But as you can see, the last few Months have been quite a bit better. I usually take off between 1 and 3 days in a month to recharge. Usually after I've had a really, really hard day at work, or when I want to spend a whole day with family.
These are my three secret monthly goals:
They go down as the monthly word count goes up. It's an easy =WordCountMonthCell-15000 or 20000 or 25000
I used to really, really struggle with writing every day. I usually only wrote when I was inspired, which happened once every couple weeks, maybe. Sometimes every couple of months. This excel sheet has helped tremendously.
Number Go Up = Serotonin Boost 👽💜💚
I encourage anyone who is struggling with achieving this to find something that works for them. A reward system that's easy to implement and easy to keep track of. Excel did it for me.
In terms of my full-time job: I struggle with motivation and energy after a 9-10hr shift (understandably). So during my last middle shift (where I started at 9:30am) I got up 1.5hrs to 2hrs ahead of when I needed to get up so I could write before work. That actually also helped so, so much, because I wasn't exhausted and I didn't have a headache.
Early shift is kind of the worst, though. I get up at 5:30AM, so I would probably have to get up at 4AM and... yeah IDK lol I don't think I'm gonna do that. I'd have to get to bed really early, too. My body requires at least 9hrs of sleep to function optimally... We'll see. Early shift is also the most exhausting, because the employees are there from the very beginning to the very end, and they're annoying and needy and demand so much attention.
Hope you enjoyed my very in detail explanation on how I manage to write every day! 👽🐔💜💚

Writing Update - January 2023
(This update brought to you a day late, courtesy of a migraine. I feel like absolute balls. Ugh.)
I'm not sure whether I'm proud or disappointed in my progress this past month. On the one hand, I did some significant writing. On the other hand, I didn't crack the 10k mark. I'm not sure why I've latched onto that as a "you're being productive!" benchmark, but there it is.
I did write 6,291 words in January, the vast majority of them in one story. And as much as I like it when my muse can focus on one story at a time, I can feel my muse wandering back to one of the other stories in my WIP pile. (*sigh*) Oh well, just so long as I don't start on another WIP. I've got four in the active pile right now; I would love to be able to finish one of them.
The one story published this month is one of the reposts: a story from a challenge compilation that I've hidden off AO3, revised, and posted. This is the only one out of that compilation that had multiple chapters (which was one reason I wanted to redo it: to put all the chapters together to make it a more cohesive story. I think I'm aiming to post one a month as I clean them up.
Posted
Lost and Found Again. 15000 words. This story was backdated to its original posting date so it didn't appear on the "front page."
WIPs
I only worked on one other story this month.
Stood Up (working title). 6500 words. New Sparkr fic. I'd really like to finish this one because it's been sitting in my To Do queue for years. XD

Personal Preferences for my own Creations, any Responses thereto &/ Transformative Works thereof (i.e. incl. Permission Policy Statement):
The Powers that Be, I and you are all aware that I don't own or make money off the Universes in which I like to play, the Concepts I like to borrow or the Characters I like to abduct for my FanWorks, even as I love to create my own Original Works, as well.
'YES' to:
Responses to my Creations (even years 'late'), such as Tumblr likes, reblogs, replies; Ao3 kudos, bookmarks, subscriptions, comments; FFN favorites, follows, reviews; . e.g. (anonymous) reviews, such as emoticons & other emojis, 'reread/ chapter hearts' (i.e. likes/ kudos) & key-smashes, quotes & other highlights ... something signed as 'whisper' (which I accordingly shan't respond to) etc. pp. . incl. polite, constructive criticism for e.g. orthographic &/ grammatical errors, missing warnings &/ mistaken ratings etc. pp.
sharing of my Creations with credit/ a link back to me;
saving of my Creations with my name/ credit to me; . e.g. downloads, screenshots, personal copy/paste & private printing
FanWorks 'inspired by', i.e. FanFics, FanArt . e.g. alterations &/ additions as Transformation, so long as you inform me &/ at least link back to me
'NO' to:
sharing of my Creations without credit, i.e. without a link back to me &/ without my name;
reposting my Creations anywhere I didn’t personally post them, such as other FanWork platforms &/ social media forums, specifically not under a name other than my own;
implying or even outright claiming my 'active' involvement in a Creation, when I did not in fact contribute to it;
touting an 'inspired by'- Transformative Work of my Creations as 'official' (e.g. a sequel, which would remain my prerogative);
feeding my Creations into AI &/ otherwise monetizing them;
Translations &/ Recordings of my Fics
🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑
Explanation of my Reasoning for my Personal Preferences pertaining to FanWorks of my own Creations:
I will certainly never complain about alterations of &/ additions to my Head-Canons, since that is what I am doing myself with my FanWorks in relation to the official Canon. However, I would like to be informed &/ at least credited for any 'inspired by'- FanWorks, as I myself publish all of my FanWorks for your enjoyment and without any compensation other than the appreciation within these Creator and Fandom spaces, in contrast to the paid, popularly known Original Creators. Otherwise, other than being acknowledged and recognized as the inspiration for any Transformative Work, I would like to avoid being perceived as involved in another's work, because we might in fact have very different Head-Canons e.g.
Furthermore, I do always appreciate and feel honored by FanArt for my Creations. Drawings don’t have any language barrier and can be understood across country borders & cultural differences, thus they are very welcome.
Having mentioned this, I would rather not have any of my work translated. The main reason for this is that I am already translating my own works by publishing them in a language 'foreign' to me, and as a capable but still non-native English-speaker, sometimes it does take half an eternity and several re-writes to get the words just right to convey the atmosphere I want, to research topics outside my former vocabulary (e.g. lots of science and slang) or remember that one word with a specific meaning just on the tip of my tongue, and I would not be able to check if this got through with any translations as well. Therefore, if I wanted something translated, I would translate it myself (believe it or not, but reading & writing FanFiction is actually the main reason my understanding of this second language of mine drastically improved - for lack of any more good Fics in my native tongue - and how my middle school grades of the formerly disliked subject English turned from the average C to As & Bs), or I would approach people known to me by myself.
Additionally, I think similarly about recordings, which I could just do on my own if I wanted to.
Also, while personal saving is definitvely treasured and sharing can be helpful to reach a bigger audience, I don’t want any of my works to appear anywhere I didn’t personally post them, specifically not under a name other than my own &/ without a link back to me. I chose the utilized platforms and forums myself and as such accept their limitations. I especially do not want my work to be monetized in any way or fed into AI.

Hello, can I please have some sambucky fic recommendations??
okay this is gonna be long (these are all my personal favourites, if you were to ask me to choose one of them i would rather die hehehheh)
feel free to add more everybody!!
a great cuddler (and maybe more) by finnicklover69 on ao3 (word count: 2470)
Summary: Bucky doesn't convey his feelings very well. Eventually, he gets the hang of it.
still feel the pull of you by napricot on ao3 (word count: 44382) (p.s. this was written before tfatws came out, but it’s so unique and amazingly written. definetely worth reading)
Summary: "The frantic pulse of fear doesn’t ease until Sam catches sight of Barnes for the first time since the end of the battle: he’s dirty and disheveled, and still, somehow, impossibly, the best thing Sam’s ever seen. The gallop of Sam’s heart slows, and the tightness in his lungs eases so suddenly that it’s like he’s gone buoyant, ready to float away without the help of any wings. Barnes turns as if he can sense Sam looking at him, and when he meets Sam’s eyes, he smiles, and it’s the brightest damn thing on this battlefield, a shock of sweetness in the midst of so much dark bitterness and confusion. Sam smiles back, giddy with joy and relief.
He thinks, thank God Bucky’s okay.
Then he thinks, wait, what the fuck?"
After realizing there are some unexpected side effects for those who've been brought back to life after the Snap, Sam and Bucky slowly but surely learn that if they want to be loved, they must submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known [via soul bond].
When We’re Old and Gay by 42hrb on ao3 (word count: 3724)
Summary: “The paparazzi will get pictures from our wedding and call it a friendship ceremony.” Sam was frowning at his phone. “We’ll have a one bedroom apartment in the Avengers retirement community in 50 years and they’ll talk about how we’re such good buddies.”
weary traveler by mistilteinn on ao3 (word count: 15000)
Summary: come close, weary traveler,
rest your head on shoulder mine.
though your feet drag in the night,
you have crossed a hundred lands
and burned under the sun’s light.
“Coulda’ used the shield,” he can’t help but say, still half breathless. Sam rolls his eyes, tinted red by his flight goggles, and shoves him away. It’s enough to knock his equilibrium off, and for a moment, Bucky’s dazed. He looks up at the clear blue sky in wonderment.
Maybe Steve’s watching them from up there, he thinks. If he is, he’s definitely laughing his ass off right now.
What I've Been Living For by OhHelloFandoms123 on ao3 (word count: 2828)
Summary: He grabs his keys and starts heading out. He’s going to see Bucky again. He was nervous, excited…He’s never felt happier. “Sam,” Sarah teased, “looks like your boyfriend arrived.”
“Thanks, but he’s not my boyfriend.” he chuckled.
“The kids started calling him ‘Uncle Bucky’, might as well be your husband.”
OR
Post-TFATWS Finale where soft feelings and emotions happen.
Louisiana Sun by Siancore on ao3 (word count: 1499)
Summary: “Thanks for today,” Sarah said, breaking the comfortable silence. “Haven’t seen my big brother smile like that in a while.”
“He’s always happiest when he’s helpin’ people,” said Bucky with a fond smile that caused his eyes to crinkle in the corners.
“That is true, but that’s not what I mean,” said Sarah, offering Bucky a small, knowing grin. “I meant that he was smiling like that because of you.”
a thread of guessing (with goodness at the end) by milucient (hopefulChange) on ao3 (word count: 1963)
Summary: Sam comes to think that his feelings are more than he lets on. Bucky sees it too.
Static in the Dark by wickedwitchcraft on ao3 (word count: 4989)
Summary: Prompt from abc-easy-as-123 on tumblr: So prompt idea, some bad guy follows Bucky to the docks for revenge (over whatever you can decide) and Sarah gets to see how protective Bucky really is over Sam when he gets in the line of fire
where you belong by faerialchemist on ao3 (word count: 7204)
Summary: “Wait, what do you mean ‘that’s good enough’?” Bucky managed to ask, matching Sam’s stride before he could be left in the dust on the docks.
Sarah gave him a small grin that Bucky couldn’t help but return. “C’est mignon, Sam—”“No, no, we are not going there,” Sam interrupted, shaking his head at his sister before returning his attention to Bucky. “And I just meant that it’s good you don’t know French.” A smirk slipped onto his lips. “We can talk shit about you in front of your face and you won’t have a clue.”
(The Wilson family speaks Louisiana French. Bucky doesn't. He finds a home with them all the same.)
something gave you the nerve (to touch my hand) by lovecamedown on ao3 (word count: 10738)
Summary: a reimagining of the hand holding in 1.05: what if they kissed in that moment?
and the aftermath, navigating this new territory.

“She thinks it’s weird I don’t call you my boyfriend,”
“Huh,” Bucky remarks indiscernibly. “Do you think it’s weird?”

Howdy howdy! Gets who's back!
I'm feeling a little better now since I've cleared up a bit of mental space so I think I'm ready to head back into writing. I have some stories that just need some editing before I post, including the next part of Dark Nights Come With A Cost (god it's been so long since I've updated that-) and a long imagine piece I've been working on (and I mean very long. Like near 15000 words long...yeah)
So get hyped! Cause I've got stuff on the way!

Look at me, not being on time for my April Immersion Overview as is the usual. (・w・;
First, little blog updates to get out of the way:
I reached 100 followers! Got an influx of people checking out my 1 year update post, and got plenty of nice compliments on my data collection.
For those of you wondering just why I keep up with so much data, it's mostly because it can get really hard to notice how much you're improving in a language especially with something like immersion learning that for people who don't get it feels like a waste of time or a time sink.
Graphs showing consistency, improvement in reading speed, increasing vocabulary counts, and generally just seeing numbers grow turns language learning more fun and motivating for me, and if as a bonus, it encourages someone to try immersion learning then that would be cool!
With that said, whether you're here as a fellow language learner, graphs enthusiast (笑), or just want some Japanese media recommendations, ようこそ!
Also, made a tiny DP change - it’s チト from 少女週末旅行. Pretty sure it’s the first manga series I ever finished in Japanese (not the first one I started since ちはやふる is still ongoing), and I always felt a bit of a ☆connection☆ with her - between her book-loving personality and being a no-nonsense kind of person, there was no way for me not to enjoy her character. Great beginner anime/manga if you’re not into most beginner recommendations.
-☆-
April has been a pretty good immersion month, as I was able to dip my toes in a variety of media. A bit competitive, too! The club I joined has been pulling all the stops to get to the Top 20 Immersion Leaderboard in it’s first month. I was able to snag the 9th spot among a bunch of people of different comprehension levels (the majority being N1+ since they’re able to comprehend much more and in turn stand longer immersion hours). Lots of tiny complaints though of potential “whitenoising” content (”listening” and “reading” but not comprehending very well just to get a large number to post), but really what can you do? People lie all the time on the internet. Besides, it’s internet points that doesn’t do anything beyond being a little shiny I guess.
Enough about that, let’s get into the nitty-gritty details you came here for!
ANIME
フルーツバスケット
Might need to rewatch this one. Felt like I didn’t connect with the characters the way the rest of its fandom has. I’m kinda sad about it, since I normally love Slice of Life and Fantasy, and I know this is one of my friend’s diehard shows.
ラブライブ! School Idol Project S2
A filler anime to watch tbh. Nice and easy enough to follow for beginners. Pretty good songs. With regards to it being a show about music and moe, I still 100% prefer K-On! if I’m going to be honest, but for a show about non-toxic idols, it’s good!
魔法少女まどか☆マギカ
First read this as English translated manga when I was 13 or something. Mistakes were made. Let’s all just agree to throw キュウベえ into a pit of fire and never talk about it again. Great ending and a show that really reworked the magical girl genre. But seriously, I was traumatized by マミ’s death then and now, help.
四月は君の嘘
Already knew what was going to happen even before watching this so I didn’t ugly cry like I was expecting. Still got that awful sinking feeling though. 10/10 would recommend for a good cry. Also, I’m planning to read the manga, might enjoy that more, because I’ve always liked it more than anime actually. *shocked pikachu face*
ホリミヤ
Watched before I even finished the manga which felt like a mistake at first until I realized that it perfectly stops where I stopped reading. Nice and comfy anime, the kind I would have loved as a teen. Fun animation too, making parts very dramatic even though it wasn’t really that deep of an issue even in the manga. Just teens feeling feelings. Still salty that we lose bad boy styled 宮村, but I get why it had to happen.
AUDIOBOOKS
氷菓
Second re-listen. I understand it fine, but it’s very easy to drift off when you can’t catch all the words so I had to replay often. Will have to mine more from the anime/book.
君の名は
I mined from the anime, and was really pleased to be able to follow all 6 hours of this audiobook perfectly fine. Will need to read the book, because I realized just how seamless reading it would be after listening to it with hardly any issue.
BOOKS
キッチェン
Completed! Read my thoughts about it and see my stats on this post.
君の膵臓を食べたい
Still trudging on with this one. It’s not a bad story, it’s pretty well written actually, I just made the mistake of watching both the anime and live adaptation first, so I know exactly what’s going to happen and it’s killing my motivation to keep reading. I guess reading the book first before watching the movie still applies in any language with me. Really need to 頑張れ and finish so I can move on.
三日間の幸福
Started reading towards the end of the month, mostly because I realized that every chapter is only 5000-15000 characters long, and I was able to read up to 40k in a day with Island most days. Only two chapters read so far though because I got distracted by manga, but it’s shaping up to be a really good plot and potentially a really sad one, too, so I’m interested.
DRAMA
花ざかりの君たちへ イケメンパラダイス
Heard this was a classic so I gave it a try. Loved 生田 斗真’s character in this one the most especially all his internal dialogue acted out. Also, 小栗 旬 in anything is bound to be a good watch. Simple and fun watch. They dragged the ending so much though lmao
ごくせん
Look, I see 松本 潤, I click. Definitely the kind of show you should watch for some great life advice. Planning to watch the 2nd and 3rd seasons even if there is a terrible lack of 松本 潤, because I love my strong female protagonists, and man, ヤンクミ is such a great character. Need to read the manga, too, if I can find it.
極主夫道
Oof, this was kind of hard. The yakuza talk was throwing me off, but the rest of it was enjoyable. Not really plot heavy as I thought it was going to be. The comedy side of it was fun and predictable after the first few episodes. Overall, pretty good slice of life, family story with a twist.
MANGA
Read a bunch of manga this month, mostly because I am struggling to find the next vn to read.
おやすみプンプン
Read a couple of volumes (6-7). This manga is so good, but it’s so depressing I need to stop to take a breather every once in a while. Please don’t leave any spoilers. The club has been reacting to me reading this, and it has mostly been a lot of crying emotes. It’s both been enjoyable to see and really worrying. 笑
チェンソーマン
Club recommendation. Only read the 1st volume so far. I really need to get into more 少年 anime/manga. That’s currently my 苦手 genre which is awful because literally all the top anime/manga is 少年 help. I just can’t enjoy it much still even though it’s comprehensible to me.
ちはやふる 中学生編
Read Vol. 1, chill read to me at this point after reading 45 volumes of the regular manga. Look, it’s my favorite 幼馴染 manga in baby format, of course I’m going to read this! 太一 has been a flake way before season 3 confirmed. Don’t come at me たいちはや stans bc I also like his character.
約束のネバーランド
Volume 7. I’m taking my sweet time with this one, because I heard the anime for season 2 sucked, so I’m avoiding it like the plague. This is 少年 how am I enjoying this and not everything else what.
ヲタクに恋は難しい
Enjoyed the anime hated the movie why did they make it a musical that sucked (ps i normally love musicals hated this one)
The オタク jargon is kinda hard to read suprisingly but I do enjoy this ship very much. It’s a lighthearted take to otaku culture which is great because seriously it’s scary out there.
ツバサ -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE-
It’s my childhood ship, obviously I will read this again (read in English several years ago). Still as plot twisty as I remember it being (now at a bonus hard level reading it in Japanese 笑). Really enjoyed reading this one (I finished it this May).

I’m starting to really dislike furigana in manga. It was a great help as a beginner, but now it’s like training wheels that you can’t take off. I feel like the gains I’m getting from manga is much lower than it was when I first started which makes me both proud of how far I’ve come, but also sad because I love manga. Sad that I might have to start choose VNs over it, because it’s not going to challenge me as much going forward. I mean it didn’t stop me from reading a lot of it this month, but you get the picture.
VISUAL NOVELS
ISLAND
Completed! See my stats and read my long spoiler filled post here.
ファタモルガーナの館
Picked up this VN and finished two doors (15 hours) before stopping. On the fence about it, because it has been kind of predictable so far, and I don’t particularly enjoy the horror genre. That said, this is more psychological than anything, so it’s probably not that that’s putting me off. The language is not exactly difficult, too - maybe some oddly specific words because it is after all historical fiction (which is one of my favorite genres, btw), and 敬語 is definitely interesting to read for once after encountering so many お嬢様 characters in anime/drama so far.
I think maybe it’s the conversations that are kind of dull - dots (silence) every few clicks that keeps breaking the flow of reading. Probably judging it really harshly too early, because it’s rated so high everywhere, and I just have high expectations. Definitely not dropping it yet though, just taking a break and testing a couple of other VNs before I settle with whatever I end up choosing. It is, after all, going to be another 50+ hour read, and I just don’t want to not enjoy the process, because having fun with the process is a huge part of immersion learning.
Let me know if you’ve read Fata and if I should continue!
-☆-
That’s it for this month!
If you have any suggestions on what to watch and read next, please send me a reply, especially for VNs because I’m struggling over here.

writevale replied to your post “i have so far only updated one story this month and i’m so fucking...”
arc!! you’re a key worker in a time of international crisis, it would be weirder if you were 100% fine and working long and stressful night shifts and then churning out 10000-15000 words of insanely good fic. part of what makes your writing so incredible is the level of fine detail in your stories and that obviously takes a lot of research and a clear mind to cast it down onto the page. you’re doing a 100/10 job at the moment and you should put yourself and your health first, people will (cont) come running to read your stuff whenever it’s ready to be read and the fic will come flowing out of you when it’s time, I’m sure!! tldr: you’re great, don’t beat yourself up!!!!
i’m gonna cry
thank you..... i know all that stuff, but i just want to make good stuff for people to enjoy, and it’s so hard now. i have three docs open but it’s like.... 200 words a day in a different one each time.
thanks for being kind about it. i still hope to wrap up something soon.

Camp NaNo Day 9
After not being able to write yesterday, and a long day today, progress has slowed a bit, but words are words!
Month Goal: 15000 Daily Goal: 540 (up a bit, since I didn’t get a chance to put any words down yesterday) Words Written Today: 250 Total Words: 3,121
Excerpt:
Jackson found himself dreading lunch that day. Not because Tyler was going to be there, but because he was actually growing fond of Tyler, not that he’d ever show it. He didn’t want to lose the company at lunchtime. He knew how it would sound--hey, just so you know, I think there’s some dude trapped in my bedroom mirror--but he couldn’t bring himself to keep it secret.
It wasn’t a lie--there weren’t many other things that could explain the strange man he kept seeing. Almost himself, but not quite. He’d taken to drawing pictures of the man. Long hair, pale skin. That was about where their similarities ended. This man was shorter, his hair was often pulled back in a braid, and he was always holding that same magnificent sword--the blade was black, with flecks of silver.
His notebook sat beside him when Tyler joined him at lunch. “What’s up?
“A lot of things. The sky, for one.”
Tyler laughed, a bit too hard. “I didn’t know you told jokes.”
“Not a joke,” Jackson mumbled, folding his arms over his chest.
Tyler picked up on his especially gloomy, overprotective tone, and frowned sympathetically. “What’s wrong, Jackson?”
“I...no, no. It’s stupid. I’m stupid.”
“You’re not stupid. Is it the math homework? I’m sure you can do it, let me help…”
“It’s not the freaking math homework!” he snapped. “It’s...I think there’s a...a man, in my mirror.”
Tyler stared blankly at him. “That’s...that’s called a reflection.”
“That’s not what I meant.”

what are some good comments to leave on FF? Also, are there statutes of limitation on the relevancy of commenting on a fanfic? Like if something was written in 2012 and you left a comment like "holy shit I fucking love this! Do you think you'll ever revive the fic and write more or is it dead forever?" would that be encouraging, or would it be more annoying and out of the blue random? (basically, what is good FF reader etiquette?)
Well, full disclosure here, I'm not really one of the people who's running around yelling feedback is dead. I've always witnessed about the same amount of small interaction on the other end of my work, and I always just try to realistically expect a small percentage, so if there truly is something widespread going on, it doesn't really look any different to me. Things change depending on popularity of pairings and genres and fandoms on the whole and I've noticed that difference as I move between subject matter and time passing, but I'm not sitting here crying about the fall of fanfiction civilization or anything. I hold tightly onto the strong interactions I've received from a few people and I'm cool. I do like the ideas that the person in that post proposed though, because I think it allows for authors to see continuous support for long works, which are the sort I tend to make, and it makes it easier for that support to come from people who don't like or want to comment, which seems to be the sort I tend to attract, haha. And that's fine, no judgement here. I've probably made a single digit number of initial comments for a variety of anxiety and conditioning reasons, so I get it. Anyway, on to what you actually asked...I don't know about anyone else, but I personally like seeing comments that cite favorite lines or ones that mention emotional reactions. Also questions or people pointing out details, because then I can talk your ear off in return! Comments are so few and far between that I really don't think I should be saying I would prefer to get one type over another type but... My inclination is to beg not to receive comments that just say, "more please" or "update soon" and absolutely nothing else after I've updated a 15000 word chapter. It makes me feel like some sort of paragraph vending machine. I would also like to stop receiving comments that just comment on the fandom. Even a comment like, " there aren't enough fics in this fandom," makes me feel like, "okay? Because mine was unsatisfying? Or so you're grateful to have mine? Or did you even read it??" Ones that say, "god i love this show" are confusing to me because yes, I do as well. That is why I have written 26000 words about it. I assume that's also why you read those 26000 words. Soooo...?You try not to be ungrateful and you know that that means that they enjoy what you put out enough to want more of it but it is hard to look at these kinds and not feel like all of your effort is not enough. As far as leaving comments on older things, I say go for it. I think a lot of people have work that they made a long time ago that they thought was under seen or underappreciated, so you may be giving them the boost that they were hoping for back when they made it. I know I personally pretty much stopped making something when the only feedback I got was some website in another language tearing apart every aspect of it, and I dropped another thing like a stone because somebody sent me a message telling me how many of their kinks I had managed to set off. I'm sure other people must have abandoned old things too because they just didn't get back even a little bit of what they put in for whatever reason. And again I don't know about other people, but for me getting a comment that says oh do you ever think you update this again is nice, and it'll make me pleased, but will probably just make me nicely say " yah, maybe someday!" Because it's likely to be something that I've moved on from because of lack of stimulation or something. If it's something I've written from like two fandoms and seven years ago, a better way to inspire me to make more of it would be to talk about what in that work you really love or ask questions. I realize this sounds kind of indulgent. The way I function though is very much that I follow Passions, so I'm likely to write (or paint or make) whatever I am feeling passionately fueled by. So an enthusiastic discussion of the pairing or the story or the genre or something is more likely to get me back into something that may have been sitting for a few years than just a "hey, would you do this again?" might. The words are fueled with more words.I never stopped loving anything that I've loved enough to write about, sometimes you just need other people to be breathing life into it too.

Hey, fun fact, so far Ryan’s chapter is the longest yet. I’m currently a bit over 13000 words and I’m not finished yet (I think I’m getting close tho so stay tuned if you give a shit) where all the other chapters have topped out at about 12000, Michael’s being the longest at about 12800. These chapters just keep getting longer and longer as I’m going and it’s ridiculous.
To be fair tho, it takes over 3000 words to get Ryan physically fixed up, and over 5000 before Jack even learns his name, and over 7000 words before the poor guy even meets Geoff. There’s a lot going on with Ryan, especially with how I originally set up his backstory, so I feel like it’s reasonable that it’s long, especially since I have him a good bit older than the other two boys (I have Gavin and Michael as about 20 in this fic as of Ryan’s chapter, Jack’s 27/28 [I’m undecided on the exact age] Geoff’s 30, and Ryan’s around the same as Jack, the 27/28 range, so if you ever wondered about ages in this fic, there you go, the Gents aren’t as young as you may think) and I want to fit things in that I wrote about in his solo headcanon from my OG set as much as I can, so I have a feeling this chapter is probably going to top out at around 15000-ish at least, if not more, so it’s also going to be really worth the wait (I know, I’m going on almost 2 months without an update but it’ll be worth it I swear!)
I have a feeling tho, with my deep, deep love for my idiot Not-A-Chameleon son Jeremy, his will probably be the longest.

Destiny Update Stuff
So, here's what the graph looks like right now. ... For some reason, I seemed to have picked 40 as an arbitrary end for the x-axis. ... And 24 as the end for the y-axis. Apparently I had hopes that the review count would reach that high. Heh. I guess the graph looks neater, though. Don't want a data point to be on the very edge of the graph. Well, no matter.
The average review/chapter is about... 12.5, and I currently post the review response when a chapter receives at least 10 reviews, or a week has passed since the update, whichever one comes first. The last time I posted the response with more than 10 reviews was... chapter 31, which, according to the Tumblr post I made, was... in May 2016. A year and a half of disappointment. Ehn. Based on the graph and the review response posts, it seems that I have to wait approx 2 months before the count even gets close to the minimum acceptable number. So, here is what I'm going to do.
Destiny will end at chapter 40. I apparently decided that a long time ago, so I will trust my past self until I realize that my past self has screwed me over. Heh. So, chapter 40 will be the end. But there's still quite a bit of stuff to do in the story. And I will probably not update this story this year. I would if the count reaches 12, but... yeah right.
So, 3 chapters to go, a lot of stuff to do in the story. What does that mean? ... Time for some 15000 word chapters. If I'm going to update once every 3 months, then I might as well dump a sh*tload of words into each chapter to get as much sh*t done as possible. ... I would probably have to aim for 20000 word chapters, though. 4 chapters in 1!
I'm also doing this because I personally dislike Destiny's pacing. It's like... I see an objective in front of me, and no matter how much I run towards it, it's not getting any closer. And I would like to finish the story before I run out of chapter titles in the title scheme I'm using.
... If, for whatever reason, the story refuses to end within the next 3 chapters... ... I'll allow the chapter count to reach 43. But no more than that. 43 because SA has 43. 37 chapter, 5 intermission, 1 preview. I don't want Destiny to go beyond that count. I don't know why, but I just don't.
So... there you have it. Expect few but very lengthy updates... in the far future.

What is Ecommerce Marketing?
According to Shopify, “Ecommerce marketing is the practice of using promotional tactics to drive traffic to your online store, converting that traffic into paying customers and retaining those customers post-purchase.”
I hope you agree with the above statement..
Now the question is ‘why we need to do eCommerce Marketing?’
Before I’ll answer this question…comment below why we do Marketing for anything?
I think, to grab attention…means people should know about our product or service.
Right?
Now comment below how will you grab attention in the situation where millions of people are doing the same thing that you are doing?
Now come to our topic i.e digital marketing strategies for eCommerce business.
TOP 15 Super Actionable Digital Marketing Strategies For Ecommerce Business.
I guarantee!! if you apply these Top 15 Super Actionable 15 Digital Marketing Strategies to your eCommerce business it will help you to increase your eCommerce sales immensely fast.
So without wasting any time let’s start with the first one…
#1. Focus on Your Product
Before focusing on any marketing activity you must focus on your product.
Sit back and think again “is your product/service provides enough value to the buyers as per price they are paying?”
If your inner heart says NO, then you have to create or produce product or service that satisfies your buyer.
Because without quality product you can not stand in the market for a long time. You may stand in the market with low-quality products/services for a shorter period of time but in the long run, you can’t stand.
No matter how good your marketing strategy is, it will not work until and unless and until your product is not good enough to satisfy your customer’s needs.
Now one more thing to be noted is, your product must be up to date with modern technologies and trends.
You will see the number of examples where most branded and reputable companies like Nokia, Kodak, Xerox, etc they got out of the market because they didn’t update their product as per market.
And you will see the number of examples where companies perform outstandingly well just because of the product. Example Xiaomi.
Manu Kumar Jain has explained the importance of Product in the below YouTube video.
#2. Define Your Audience Buyer
The next eCommerce marketing strategy is know your buyer.
Because, if you don’t know who will buy your products and you are promoting your product taking the help of any marketing channel then you are aiming in dark.
You must have a complete defined buyer persona like
Age
Gender
Location
Job titles
Family size
Income
Major challenges
and many more
Now the question is ‘why it is so Important?‘
Let’s understand with an example:-
Suppose you are selling luxury watches on your eCommerce website Minimum amount ₹1,50,000 and the Maximum amount goes up to ₹10,00,000.
Think about it:
which type of person can afford your watches?
Can a normal salaried person with a salary amount of ₹ 20,000 can afford you watch?
No…
Here INCOME matters. RIGHT?
So, it is a waste of marketing effort, time and money on those who can’t buy your product.
Like this, you have to categorize your potential buyer into
Age
Gender
Location
Job titles
Family size
etc.
In the below video Mr. Kirtiman Sharma talks about what is a buyer persona and how to create a buyer persona? You must watch this video also.
Helpful Content
Must Read: What is a Buyer Persona and Why is it Important?
#3. Analysis of Your Ecommerce Website
Well said by someone, before entering any war you must prepare with your weapons. Because without strong and powerful weapons you can’t win any war…Right?
Similarly, before applying any marketing strategies to your eCommerce business you must have to build well functioning and eye-catching website design.
Now the question is Why?
As we all know, the customer engages and order their product through a website in the eCommerce business.
Now let’s take an example from our day to day life…
Suppose you want a shirt. So you visited the nearest cloth shop. OK, Now you enter a shop and you suddenly see that the shop doesn’t look good.
On the other side, you entered another cloth shop and you see the decoration, lighting, and the clothes are arranged in well mannered and a proper billing system.
Comment below… From which shop will you buy a shirt?
I will go with the second one and I think also you.
Now, Relate this whole example with your eCommerce website.

#5 Convert You visiter into Customer Through Display Advertisement
The next Digital Marketing Strategy For Ecommerce Business is Display Advertising. It is the BEST digital marketing strategy that helps you in converting you visitor into your customer.
Now the question is What is Display Advertising?
Comment below…from the word “Display Advertising” what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?’
If I am not wrong then Advertisement through Visuals like Images, Videos…Right?
Now Display Advertising is nothing more than that.
According to instapage.com, “Display advertising refers to the process of advertising a product or service through visuals like images and videos on networks of publisher websites such as the Google Display Network and Facebook, etc.”
Now let’s understand with the basic example from our day to day life…
I hope you had visited on amazon or Flipkart. And you have shown interest in any product, for example, a shirt.
Now I hope you have experienced that amazon or flipkart continuously displays that shirt on your mobile phone…Right?
This is display advertising.
Now the next question comes to your mind
Why Display Advertising is so Important for eCommerce Business?
Again I am saying display advertising is BEST digital marketing strategy for eCommerce business. Because it has the potential to convert your visitors into a customer.
HOW??
Let’s understand with our real-life example…
Suppose, I want a mobile phone under ₹15,000. So I visited on google and search for a “mobile phone under ₹15,000“. Now I see the best mobile phone for me on Amazon and I clicked on it.
Now I am just checking specifications but suddenly something struck my mind and I clicked the home button or close the tab and went for that work.
After some time I forget which mobile phone specification I was seeing and planning to buy.
Here, Display advertising plays a very important role. Because as we discuss above how amazon re-target its product through display advertisements on our mobile phones.
Similarly, amazon retargeted me through the display advertisement that strikes my mind “which mobile phone I was planning to buy?”
Here what I am trying to tell you is that at many times your website visitors are ready to buy your product but due to some reason they didn’t complete the buying process. So it is your responsibility to retarget them smartly and help them to buy your product.
At many times display advertisement is used to create interest in a product in the user’s mind.
How?
Let’s understand with the same above example but situation change… Here I don’t require a mobile phone. But Some other reason I visited on amazon. And I saw an amazing mobile phone so I just clicked on it and read the specifications and I went back without buying. But as usual, amazon retarget me continuously. So I start seeing that mobile phone continuously. Therefore my mind triggers to buy that phone and eventually I end up buying that phone.
Here, amazon uses display advertising for creating interest for that mobile phone.
Now relate these two examples with your eCommerce business. And apply this marketing strategy to your eCommerce It will help you to convert your visitor into a customer.

Flipkart Instagram Profile Screenshot
Amazon Intagram Profile Screenshot
So why not you? Again, I strongly suggest you build a strong social media presence on social media platforms.
Now the question is, which social media platform? Because there are dozens of social media platforms available on the web like Instagram, Facebook, any many more.
So the answer is very simple… that depends on which product or service you are offering.
For example, if you selling fashion Product like watches, clothes, shoes, etc then you should focus on
Instagram
Facebook
At the end, what matters is, on which platform your audience spends time.
I hope you understand.
The next question comes to your mind that which type of post you should do on these Platforms?
Again, It depends on your product and platforms (Social media). But for understanding… Suppose you are selling clothes for men and you are planning to post on Instagram then you should post attractive images, your product, offers, etc.
And If you in the fashion industry then the best example is Myntra & Power Look. Just See how well they managed their Instagram profile and other social media platforms.
Another thing you should do is Boost up your posts. Means go for paid social marketing for building your brand.
Here I am not telling you to do this on every post but occasionally you should go for that also. It helps your brands to reach your target audience.

#7.SEO(Search Engine Optimization): Give Ease to Your Customer in Finding You
The Next Digital Marketing Strategy for eCommerce that help you to become brand and increase your sale i.e SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Why I am saying this?
Study shows…
Recently Semrush study different sources of ecommerce website traffic. In this study, Semrush use 13 categories of eCommerce websites like Sports & Recreation, Electronics, Fashion, Jewelry, etc.
In this study, Semrush found these eCommerce websites get
50.12%Search Traffic (SEO)
28.2% Direct Traffic
10% Referral Traffic
6.83%Paid Traffic
4.79% Social Traffic
So, if you are not focusing on SEO then you are losing 50.12% traffic here without any doubt.
Means, You are losing potential customers.
Right?
At present every eCommerce whether small or big they all are focusing on SEO because they don’t want to lose any customer.
So why? You are not focusing on SEO. Rank your web pages higher in search engines especially in Google and increase your website traffic means an increase in your sales.
Why on Google?
Because, as we all know Google is the most preferred search engine by the people.
And According to PowerReviews, 35% of consumers start their shopping journey on Google search.
You can do your SEO for your website by own or you can hire an SEO agency. But I strongly you to hire an SEO agency.
Why?
See, everyone is not perfect in everything…Right? Everyone take help from anyone for anything.

The Next Digital Marketing Strategy for Your eCommerce Business is Creating helpful content for your potential buyers.
In today’s world, you need to create demand for product by educating your potential customers. And the best way to educate your customers about your product is Blogs or Articles.
Now let’s understand with an example…
Suppose I want a mobile phone. Therefore I want a list of mobile phones with the specification. So as usual, I searched on Google’s best mobile Phone under 15000 and on google SERP (Search Engine Result Page) I saw results like this.
I clicked on the third result 91mobiles.com.
Now in this blog, I get a list Top 10 Mobile phones under 15000 with the specification and price.
If any mobile phone I like from this list I will buy it from here (Trough Affiliate Link).
Now here 91mobiles.com they are not running an eCommerce business but they are doing affiliate marketing.

The most interesting thing is most of the eCommerce business they are not focusing on creating helpful blog or content or article.

Now one more thing you need to keep in mind that creating a helpful content or article or blog is not just enough. You need to write SEO friendly article that rank.
Why? Because, there billions of articles on the web. And we all know people’s tendency is not to move on the second page of SERP.

#9. Video on YouTube: Try to Help Your Potential Customer With Valuable Content
The Next Digital Marketing Strategy for Your eCommerce Business that help you to increase your sale is creating engaging content in video format and upload it on specifically on YouTube.
Let’s first understand…why you need to create video content?
According to the wyzowl.com study(2017), 63% of businesses are using video as a marketing tool. And this number has increased from 63% to 85% and this data is increasing day by day.
So, what you are waiting for? Everyone says video content will be the future, but I say the video content era has arrived.
Now come to your audience’s perspective…
See, video content is easy to understand by your audience. It is interactive also. Therefore the impact of video content is more impactable then other forms of content.
And in video content, you can explain your product in a very effective manner.
Now Which type of content you must create…
As I said you should create demand, interest and solve all the queries related to your product by educating your customers whether in written content or video content.
Let’s understand with the same example above…
I want a mobile phone. Here I prefer youtube instead of google. And I get numerous videos on youtube related to Best Mobile Phone under 15000.
And I saw different videos after that I bought a mobile phone from here.
Again they are doing Affiliate Marketing.
Here what I am trying to tell you some people prefer video content and some people prefer written content. You need to focus on both.
Now you can convert your written content into video format. You need not to generate different content ideas for video and article.
Now, what thing you should avoid while making Videos?
How to Edit Video?
How to Grow Your YouTube Channel?
#10. Email Marketing: Invite Your Customers With Sending Personalized Emails
Email Marketing is another Digital Marketing Strategy that helps you to increase your eCommerce sales.
Why?
Before answering this question, comment below… how you can contact your customers again? And How you can convert your customers into regular customers?
By calling? once or twice it’s ok but again and again, it’s creepy. Because people don’t like it when someone calling them and try to sell their product. Even you must have experienced this, Right?
By Text Messaging? People tendency they don’t read this type of message because of what’s app has come into the market. Even I don’t. Because if you open your message inbox you will get numerous unnecessary messages, Right?
Then think … How you can contact your customers again? And How you can convert your customers into regular customers?
The only option you can choose for contacting your customers again converting your customers into regular customers is EMAIL
Because people read emails. Even I used to read email daily because there are lots of Important messages come over there.
And one more thing, you might be observed that (if you are using Gmail or yahoo) that these platform classified all the emails into 3 categories namely
Primary
Social
Promotions
Spam
Right? So if you send promotional emails (most you send these type of emails) then these email goes to the promotional section.
Now if anyone goes to the promotional section means they are ready to see promotional offers, Right? means they are ready to buy something (maybe your product). In this scenario the conversion rate high, Right?
This Marketing Strategy used by most of the eCommerce businesses whether small or big like Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart, etc.
Now the question is what type of email you should send your customer?
I will answer this question. But I want you to do some research because you will get better idea what type of email you should send your customer.
Here are the steps you have to follow
Create a fresh email (preferable – Gmail) account. Remember, you will use this account only for this purpose.
Subscribe all the big eCommerce websites so they can email you about their products and offers.
Subscribe to all your competitors also.
Now, wait they will send you emails.
After collecting enough email means 10 -20 emails analyze them deeply. Means, what type of emails they sent you? When? Which type of words they have used? etc.
After analyzing all thing build a strong email marketing plan and then apply it.
Now, why did I suggest you to do research? Because I don’t know which type of product you are selling? Who all are your competitors? and many more things that I don’t know. So instead of giving “what type of email you should send your customer?” I believe you should research according to your business that gives a better idea.
Pro Tip: Send Personalize Email using Name and Try to come on Point as soon as possible.
Caution:- Don’t send an email daily. Send an email once a week and never forget to offer an email during the festival (depend on the product).

How Much Does Professional Website Design Cost?
How much does it cost to have a website designed in the UK?
In this article, we'll take a detailed look at just what it takes to build and maintain a professional website. We'll look at the following:
Buying (and renewing) a domain name
Comparing Web Design Quotes
DIY Websites
Benefits of Professional Website Design
Running Costs (including maintenance and updates)
Let's start off with some fun statistics, shall we?
The most expensive websites are often our own government-based organisations. This post isn't about politics but it may surprise you just how much our governing bodies manage to spend on professional website design.
The latest HMRC website cost £35 Million (yep that's six zeros!) to build and maintain for 3 years.
That may sound like a lot but it pales in comparison to a business link website built a few years ago which cost an eye-watering £105 Million.
This included:
£6.2m for strategy and planning
£4.4m for design and build
£4.7m for hosting and infrastructure
£15.3m Content Provision
£4.5m for testing and evaluation
The above costs were repeated every year for 3 years!
Moving back into the realms of normality, what about a typical small business website?
Well, it could cost you anything from £0 up to around £15000. Many websites do cost more than this but most small businesses will fit within this price bracket.
Domain Name
The first thing that you'll need when you're setting up your website is is a domain name. This is relatively inexpensive (unless your purchasing premium domains from a reseller).
It's a common misconception that (that domain registrars are only too happy to prey on) that when registering a domain, you should go and register every domain suffix under the sun.
There are now so many domains suffixes available you could purchase 20 domains and still not cover them all.
.co.uk
.com
.net
.org
.biz
.london
.tv
+many more
What you need for your website will depend on the type of business you own and how what you intend to do with it.
If you have a standard small business in the UK that serves UK customer primarily then it's best to start by registering a .co.uk domain. If it's available, get the .com version too (particularly if you plan on selling overseas). In most cases, you won't need anything more than that.
Domain Auto-Renewal
When purchasing your domain, make sure that it's set up for Auto-renewal. If it isn't, and you forget to renew, you could end up with your website going down, loss of email addresses and even loss of your domain name permanently (there will always be a grace period to give you a chance to get your domain back). Keep your credit/debit card information up to date with your registrar.
If you have a good web designer that offers after-care, they can manage this for you as part of your support package. So, if you're a busy entrepreneur just pay your web designer to manage the domain and billing for you so you don't have to worry about it. At WDM we manage domains on behalf of all our clients. It just takes the stress and hassle out of it. We can automate the billing so there's very little work involved on your part.
Comparing Quotes
If you're having a site designed in the UK by a professional website designer, they will be happy to draft you a full proposal which details everything that's included and exactly where costs are going. We provide full proposals for all of our bespoke websites. If you're unsure of costs, it can be a good idea to compare quotes. But...
Make Sure You're Comparing A Like-For-Like Specification!
This is extremely important. On the face of it, a £500 quote may offer the same as a £5000 quote. It's not until you question the designer and compare properly that you realise why the fee is so different. Generally, cheap quotes tend to equal a cheap-looking website. The more money you spend, the better quality product you're going to end up with.
There are some really great web designers out there that will be cheaper than large agencies but make sure they fully understand what's required before you start, and drill down into the feature set to check if those cheap quotes include the same set of features as the more expensive quotes that you're getting. It's not uncommon to receive a cheap quote but find out further down the line that your designer has missed something really fundamental.
What about a DIY Website?
A DIY website may be a good choice if you simply don't have the budget for a web designer. However, it's worth bearing in mind that if you want a fast-loading site that's optimised properly to draw organic traffic or provide features like analytics, then you should probably steer clear of DIY websites.
Also, if you consider yourself a complete technophobe and you struggle to open a word document or navigate your phone, then you may struggle with a DIY website.
As your business grows you'll find that (in most cases) you'll have to get your website re-built by a professional designer or pay somebody (who specialises in whichever platform you use) to add features for you.
A Professional Website Will Pay For Itself
If you find a good, professional web designer that understands CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) and the customer journey, then the increased business that brings will pay for itself and provide you with a healthy ROI in a relatively short time-frame (depending on your business model of course).
We're not magicians and we can't provide you thousands of customers just by having a good website on its own. But, if you can convert and extra 20% of visitors into paying customers (or verifiable leads), what would that be worth to you?
The majority of our professional website designs by WDM cost between £1000 and £5000. If you could convert an extra 20% of your visitors into customers, how long would it take you to recoup that investment and see an ROI?
Running Costs
We've already spoken about domain names but there are other costs you will have to factor in if you want to keep your website running smoothly.
Web hosting - Hosting costs can vary from £5 p/m to £50k+ p/m. The right hosting for you will depend on the size of your website, the number of visitors you have, the location of your target audience, and how resource-intensive your site is.
At WDM, we host all of our clients' websites. Costs usually range from £10 monthly to £100 per month. Although we can offer web-hosting separately, it's usually sold as part of a website care package. This allows us to ensure your website is well looked after and properly maintained at all times. This helps to prevent downtime and potential issues over time.
This brings us neatly onto updates.
Just as your phone software needs updating, so does your website. Fail to keep things updated and you risk errors, slow-loading, security issues, and even customer data breaches. Unless you're confident in maintaining this yourself, it really is worth allowing a monthly budget for this. We provide care packages from £35 per month.
Get A Fixed Price Quote!
At WDM every proposal we write is fixed price and we detail exactly what's included for that price. The only time the price will change is if the job itself changes (for example, if you require an additional feature that wasn't originally requested).
The quotation for professional website design should always be a fixed cost (unless it's an on-going project that you are planning to develop over a long period of time).
When you talk to your designer, make sure that everything you need has been included in the quotation and make sure that the cost is fixed, not just an estimate.
Have a project you'd like to talk about?
