general thoughts is the overall story was.... BAD. LOL.

I'll start with the good. The interactions between Yashiki and alot of the returning cast i really liked, the writing especially in the first few chapters. An example being alot of Yashiki and Daimon's chatter, especially the whole weight of saving lives things that comes back at the end, alot of it was quite sweet and heartwarming similarly between him and other mark bearer characters.

I liked the choice of Hiroo and Mashita being the two that come in when he's at his lowest, their curtness and refusal to take his attitude was really refreshing, felt really like what he needed at the time lol. In that same vein i enjoyed his characterization alot in the early-mid game, and how it develops. He's such a sensitive guy lollll and it comes through well with how much he cares but near the latter chapters it kind of.... sours.

Though there were a few new characters i liked his interactions with, Abe and Maruhashi specifically i found endearing of the new cast, Alot of them just Die. Or theyre Hime and Michiho AKA the bane of my fucking existence with this game.

They are the two pushed front and center and it is truly its worst aspect, as characters they're shallow personality wise and though you could say that about others in the cast, them being in love with Yashiki on top of it makes it so much worse.

They barely have any scenes where they actually properly interact and feel like they bond at all but for some reason im expected to believe they're suddenly in love with him?? -and in the end they were also dead the whole time, and not even themselves. So it wasn't even real, and somehow any of this is meant to hold any weight to the audience...?? explaining it as the ghosts being desperate for him instead doesnt really make it.. any more compelling (lol the scene at the end where hes like maybe they just wanted those beautiful normal school days they spent by me.... when did that happen yashiki)

I understand Yashiki is probably saddened by the deaths of two young girls but they're treated with so much more weight and gravitas than anyone else in the cast and its so unearned, especially when alot of the other ghosts are somehow way more compelling in that aspect.

He also becomes borderline ooc around them like in what world am i expected to believe he emotionally dumps his burdens on the two highschool girls he barely knows because of how sad he is when hes got like how many other people he knows FROM THE OTHER GAMES he could do that with...????? (AND BASICALLY DOES... ALREADY...?) and it lifts his heart like truly wtf was i reading. HE WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THAT.JPG

Chapter six is really where it falls off the cliff with this, after hanging out with Hiroo, Mashita and Yasuoka and solving that case they just dissapear from the narrative for a day so he can......... hang out with michiho...?? i couldn't even enjoy murder yashiki in this game because of how ludicrous it felt that the rest of yashiki's companions just dissapeared to make it happen, and no one calls or anything lmfao. I cant imagine how much more compelled i would have felt if he was dealing with that situation with any of the other three around instead of HIME. LIKE I AM ACTUALLY SO INCENSED ABOUT THIS SCENARIO BEING RUINED SO HARD WHEN IT COULD BE SO GOOD BUT I DIGRESS (RIPPING MY HAIR OUT) (CRYING BC I LOVE BLOOD AND HORROR)

Even the first two games weren't as bad as writing women as this!? EVEN IF I HAD TO SEE MASSIVE TITS ON SCREEN THEY WEREN'T TRYING TO JUMP ON YASHIKI AS WELL AS A CENTRAL PLOT POINT (lol kakuya) congrats exp you have outdone yourself with the misogyny.

To continue on the topic of new characters, it feels like so many of them were given so little screen time to make you actually care about them. For how prominent Abe is he barely actually does anything, and Maruhashi instantly dissapears when shes no longer a red herring. On top of this game basically killing off any other character that appears, its hard to get invested in them as characters at all.

You have no opportunities to actually effect their fate as you do in the other two games, so there's even less attempt to immerse you there. Horikoshi comes the closest behind the other two but its because her case with Hanako was easily the strongest and most resonant of the game (lgbt win). Its not even like this is the first time Yashiki saves the lives of kids and bonds with them after, especially with the caveat of being a teacher, like how did you fuck this premise up so bad.

They either needed to commit to more scenes and writing in general to attach you to the new characters or just not have any returning ones show up so prominently if they're not also going to further interact with them.

The overall mystery suffers for it, and while i like the twist of the doll being helpful in this game actually, it is so easy to guess michiho and hime are the departed, and i already didn't even like them so it doesn't hit at all emotionally. Like, i was not feeling very betrayed or anything lol.

Further critiques -> though running around is very fun, the horror in this game really didn't at all compare to the others with the loss of that first person perspective for alot of the exploration, sad.

I also feel like we got more horny shit than we did in NG which is also like lol one step forwards two steps back. Even the gore wasn't as good............... kind of mid in every regard there. I did like the mushroom and scissor stuff, but the bugs and mold ended up just kind of ..... eh...

Mary continues to be the best antag in these games, she slayed and she continues to keep slaying. The sisters were really kind of a letdown in the end, especially since i think i could have enjoyed it if they pulled them off better.

As for my yaoi cocaine score though thats a 10/10 they made yashiki and mashita meow and hiss like cats in this game for some reason, i genuinely think that shattered my mind a little.

Like they both clearly stated that they like you in a more romantic sense when you stated that you two were friends, but if you somehow still didn't get the hint they would be clueless about what to do other than scream their love. Ace would be a lot more flirty and teasing than Luffy, mostly because the latter isn't interested in it lmfao. Also Luffy is oblivious too, he isn't that interested in having a love relationship, while Ace not at all, and would notice things pretty quickly.

Sabo isn't that bad. But I feel like he could be quite oblivious too, making the situation both funny and annoying to everyone else. You both like each other, flirt even, but still convinced that the other is just being friendly koala is screaming into her pillow please. Luckily Sabo braincells would connect and realize what has been happening for a while, also thanks to Koala, so everything is well. Kind of. He has no idea how to make you realize his feelings without screaming like the other two

Zoro is both oblivious and straightforward. He lives in his own world of training, not noticing it your flirting or his own until it's too late. Drives him a little bit insane how oblivious you are even if he thought it made things pretty clear; he likes you and wants to take your relationship further, but maybe his wording wasn't the best and you misunderstood... Somehow.

You just think that Sanji is being, you know, Sanji. So you don't think too much about it. Expect the fact that he is being much worse when it's about you; he knows your favorite food, drink, book and he is always, always thriving for your attention and praise. Not also very shy about it, will remind you time and time again that he likes you. Without batting an eye. Maybe tearing a little bit considering how you constantly reject his feelings by calling him friends, although you didn't mean it

I like to think that Izo is into a more traditional way of courting, so your misunderstanding of his gestures is pretty normal, considering that they both be seen as platonic and romantic. However, he is gonna make stuff pretty clear soon while slightly teasing you, finding your obliviousness simply adorable. He won't mind it that much, using it mostly to tease just a tiny bit. My sweet boy Cavendish is so confused and perplexed. He honestly thought it was pretty clear, considering how clearly he favors you over anyone else. He doesn't do it with malice and would clarify pretty quickly his feelings, waiting for you to get embaressed over the situation with a smirk.

Poor Trafalgar has no idea how to work in this situation. You can literally hear the gear in his brain trying to work out, because, in all honesty, he thought his feelings were all over the place. He's glad that it isn't the case, but he has no idea how to confess his feelings without secondhand embarrassment. Especially with how many times you have called him a dear friend in his face, ignoring his groan and grunt.

1. How many are you happy with?

I like most of them. I’ve always had such trouble with titles, so like how I feel about them changes pretty regularly, but in general, I’m happy with most of my titles. it isn’t often that I come up with a title that I consider to be brilliant, and if I do come up with one, it’s before I start writing the fic, and then I end up having to change it bc it just doesn’t fit anymore. the same goes for chapter titles, tbh.

2. How many are… not great?

I think I’m the most unhappy with To Train the Chosen but that one was initially written on a tumblr roleplay blog with no intention to give it a title. I’m also not the happiest with Temples and Truths. it just seemed to be a title that suited the story I (eventually) want to tell, and I couldn’t come up with anything more clever.

3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute?

Well... hmm. I mean, in one way or another, all of them. definitely A Solitary Mourning and To Train the Chosen. pretty sure I scrambled somewhat for Temples and Truths. and definitely For Better or Worse, I just wanted to get (part of) that one up for the fic exchange it belongs to, and that title just so happened to Work.

4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning?

Ash and Ember I knew going into it, since the fledgling ideas for it were plotted out before with the help of a former writing partner of mine. Back Against the Wall was... I think early on, or at least partway through. I fiddled with a couple ideas before settling on that idea in the end, but I think the title came once I figured out where I was going with it. technically you could count Penumbra, since it’s a oneshot collection, but I do generally have a vague idea of what I’ll title the oneshot itself before or as I start writing it. the end result might not necessarily be the original idea, but I at least have a starting point.

5. How many are quotes from songs or poems?

two are song titles lol. Ash and Ember and Back Against the Wall. largely bc those songs are ones that just sort of... fit the fics themselves, and I find it easier for me to focus my writing when I have musical inspiration. the chapters in Ash and Ember are also song quotes. I blame @ladyvader23​ tho, since she likes to have songs in the notes that go along with each chapter. BATW was a gift fic for her to begin with, so of course I had to, and that method has helped me keep focused for A&E so I can’t feel too bad about it.

6. How many are other quotes?

Hamlet is a play, not a poem, so I guess Perchance to Dream counts here lol. 

7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?

probably Back Against the Wall and A Solitary Mourning, since in the former, Luke is pretty literally stuck between Vader and the wall, and he’s literally just mourning his father on his own in the latter. Temples and Truths is pretty literal as well, though I still have to write the “truths” part of it. Perchance to Dream is also pretty literal since it’s, well, about dreamsharing (as is the Penumbra oneshot called Dreams lol.)

8. Which best reflects the theme of the story?

I do like Penumbra for my oneshot collection, bc it does have that light/dark dichotomy that Luke and Vader possess. Ash and Ember, especially given the song I stole it from, reflects a lot of what is going to go down in the story to come, if not directly than for sure in an overall “character journey” sort of way. and Legacies of the Chosen One works in that it’s focused on Luke and Ahsoka, who are both part of Anakin’s legacy in some form, and even if it isn’t technically a “theme,” per se, their relationship with him and increasingly one another is the whole point of the fic. Of Loyalty and Royalty also fits really well, given the sort of tug between the royal duty Luke has and his loyalty towards both his family and Han.

9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/POV of the story?

prooooobably The Boy With Starlight In His Veins, just bc, well, it’s all about Luke, and that’s sort of how I like to refer to him. in an entirely poetic and metaphorical manner, of course. you could also make arguments for A Solitary Mourning and Back Against the Wall, though.

10. Which is your favourite title?

hmmmmmm.... I think I’m generally most proud of Penumbra, Back Against the Wall, and Of Loyalty and Royalty. they just sorta fit the best, and even tho BATW is stolen from a song title, I still like it and how it suits the oneshot itself.

Taylor did the 80s sound with 1989. She can barely play guitar, she can’t even do fret notes. She’s terrible at playing piano. Has written some horrendous songs with some of the worst lyrics in the industry. Cannot hold a note, and is mediocre at melodies, which is why she barely has hits compared to her contemporaries (Katy, Gaga, Rihanna, even Ariana have more hits and bigger across more years). She’s good at lyrics when she tries and even then, some of her songs are so try hard they become exhausting.

She’s good at marketing herself, she’s conventionally pretty, and got both legs up in the industry thanks to her parents and her Aryan looks and choosing to be a country artist despite being born in fucking Pennsylvania.

It’ll never fail to amaze me how up your their own ass her fans are because she has some Grammies and sold some records. Guess what? So did Justin fucking Timberlake and he’s a slimeball and a cringe machine, one trick pony anyway!

Btw, I’m not even a huge fan of Harry Styles. I think he’s mediocre in a musical environment that’s gone to shit and that’s the only reason he stands out. But I seriously cannot stand the airs of superiority the fans of that white devil are when she lacks talent on almost every front. Taylor *is* a mediocre vocalist. We all know this. So is Harry. Neither have incredible voices in the way Ariana or Miley or Justin Bieber tbh or Zayn and tbh people can hate it but Liam’s got a great fucking voice.

Taylor’s exceptional because she is able to work across genres and different musical styles, writes all her own material and solo writes a lot which is unheard of at that level, has popularized a focus on lyricism across the board tbh, has popularized confessional and personal songwriting, has given a model for female artists that’s quite unique (Madonna/whore shit that she toys with and we see girls like Olivia looking to that), has made major moves behind the scenes that have impacted streaming and artists’ ownership and pushed for improved transparency, and along with Beyoncé has been key to popularizing album artists. Bey arguably did more on that but Tay has also been key to it.

Like does that make Taylor perfect or the greatest thing since sliced bread? No to the former, for me yes for the latter. But it’s a biased opinion. I like her a lot and I think her impact has been notable and has inspired other artists I also like.

Has Harry had that kind of impact? Not yet, no, and unless he develops his own sound he won’t.

anyway this list is my top ten worst otome boys ever.  time to maKE EVERYONE MAD.

10. V / Kim Jihyun (Mystic Messenger)

I was very hesitant on putting V on this list because I have a bunch of followers and mutuals who are V fans but I did it anyway and because of that I’d like to offer a formal apology to them for betraying their trust LMFAO. Anyway my dislike of V mellowed out throughout the years and after playing Saeran’s route, I don’t really have as much beef with him as I used to. But even still as far as him being a love interest goes, his route made me cry tears of genuine frustration and made me want to bash my head against the wall if it isn’t obvious from the montage above. I’m probably giving him more grief than he deserves but nevertheless his route left me very unamused and very salty.

9. Chojiro (Nightshade)

Like V, Chojiro isn’t a bad guy but his route and personality makes me cry genuine tears of frustration. His route was terribly written; there’s no character development, no closure is given, and the angst and tragedy felt cheap and flavourless. Gekka’s route deals with almost the exact same plot points as Chojiro’s route except... one hundred times better. I honestly wish Ieyasu got a route instead of Chojiro, and it hurts to admit but I think Nightshade would have been a better game if they omitted Chojiro’s route entirely. 

8. Kim Yoosung (Mystic Messenger)

I remember when I first started playing mystic messenger, back when I didn’t know anything, I thought V was shady af  so I was genuinely respectful of Yoosung because he seemed to be the only one with any damn common sense and didn’t just trust V blindly.

But then V’s route dropped and it took Yoosung’s very grounded suspicions of V and cranked it up from “suspicious” to outright “whiny victim blamer” where he outright accuses V of being the reason why Rika committed suicide. What the fuck? That’s horrible. He constantly implies that V didn’t do enough for Rika, that he should have tried harder, he should have saved her, that him being a bad boyfriend was what pushed Rika to suicide and LIKE????? how about you S t o p @ Yoosung??? And I get it, he’s 18/19, his wounds from Rika’s death are still fresh and he can’t help but deal with his grief in an incredibly harmful and immature way. But just because I understand that that doesn’t mean I have to forgive him for it, let alone like him LMFAO.

7. Kagiha (Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly)

Apparently Kagiha is pre well liked from what I’ve seen LOL. But once again, other people may like him but that doesn’t mean I have to. His entire character revolves around the heroine and he has no motivation or wish outside of his love for the heroine, a love which honestly felt incredibly shallow. He refers to Ai as “the woman he loves!” but like??? fam you barely even know her. He latches onto their childhood promise of marriage and it almost feels like he’s using it as a tool to corner Ai so she can’t reject him. And it didn’t end up catastrophically because Ai did reciprocate his feelings, but what if she didn’t? What if she grew out of that childhood promise and didn’t want to be more than friends? I don’t even want to imagine how he’d take it because I doubt it’d be pretty. Everything about their relationship felt superficial and shallow.

6. Ikki (Amnesia) 

There is a fine difference between “making someone wait” and “standing them up on every single fucking date” and this fucker very much adheres to the latter. His character is uninteresting and his route ended up being a chore to get through. He’s not a bad guy at heart but as far as him being a love interest goes, I wouldn’t have a one night stand with him even if you paid me to.

5/4. Meyoyoyoyoyo & Orange Juice Von Garibaldi (also known as Mejojo and Auger) (Black Wolves Saga)

Meyoyoyoyo and Auger are freakishly crazy cat twin princes who have a fetish for spending violin playing sessions beating people half to death in torture chambers. How Romantic. Why need OST when you have Auger’s fiddle?

I postponed this post because I had to finish their routes before putting them on this list. I literally reserved a spot on this list for them. Now these two go together because I can’t talk about these motherfuckers unless they are together. Then again, I think I can safely let the montage above do the talking for me. The only reason why they’re not at the top of the list despite making Rika creating a cult look like child’s play is because weirdly enough, their insanity is what makes this game so good. But good writing isn’t going to stop my impending heart stroke when I think about them. Their routes are pretty much there so the writers can not-so-kindly tell us that “love does not redeem everyone” and “some people never change”. Like Ikki, I wouldn’t have a one night stand with either of them even if you paid me to.

3. Jiyeon (Dandelion) 

I have literally nothing more to say other than he’s an abusive asswipe and no lukewarm, “tragic backstory uwuwu” is going to make me like this fucking asshole. like wow “boo hoo someone I loved was murdered right in front of my eyes so I’m gonna take out my pent up anger on this innocent girl who has nothing to do with me :(” “boo hoo I don’t want to get close to this girl I like because I’m scared she might get hurt so I’m gonna be a insufferable jackass so she stays away!” gee where have I seen that before. My bleeding heart can’t take it.

2. Toma (Amnesia)

Haha I bet everyone thought he was going to be first, but nah, he’s second. I’m going to let the montage above do most of my talking. If it isn’t obvious enough by the giant montage above, I bitch about Toma a lot //bricked.

1. Nesso (Black Wolves Saga)

He’s objectively not as abusive or as bad as the douche twins mcGee but unlike the twins, he doesn’t have the proper writing to justify him being gross. Plus, those two get hit with the karma bus if only Rika suffered half as bad of a fate as them while most of Nesso’s antics are swept under the rug, thus he ranks higher than them.

Older brother to the heroine by blood? Check. Madly in love with the heroine to an unhealthy degree? Check. Constantly makes unwanted advances towards her, even when she was a child? Check. Touches and kisses her without her consent all the time in his route??? Check. Does not value the heroine’s autonomy and believes that she can’t think for herself or make her own decisions? Check. Asks the heroine for sexual favours in his good ending because he knows she won’t refuse???? CHECK.

This guy’s behaviour towards the heroine is full blown predatory zone and coming from someone who has an “anything goes” attitude in otome games, his route is so wrong on so many levels. It’s even worse because Fiona never actually gives her consent to any of this, and every time he touches or kisses her she’s just like “why are you doing this to me? aren’t we siblings?”. Nesso’s route is pretty much a glorified encyclopedia on “why incest is bad 101″ and thus he wins the platinum trophy for grossest and worst otome boy I’ve encounter thus far.

8/9/19 1:15am Super Update 2/?

Yknow I really thought hard about naming this one “there’s something about mary.” it would’ve been delightfully tacky, right? Maybe not.

Nah.

Anyway, first let’s start off with tempering some of that unabashed dicksucking I just did. I still feel overweight. I don’t feel Fat per se, I’m gaining a little bit more confidence in myself (especially now that I’m hooking up with girls again), but I don’t really feel as attractive as I was a year and a half ago. I’m much Happier, don’t get me wrong, but it is a simple truth that I’m not quite as sexy as I was then. Baby steps, we’ll get there.

Anyway.

So here’s where we’re at then. Super skinny me, doing karaoke every week, I think I’m still blonde, Mary asks ME out, we start fucking. Sorry, had to take care of some patients and then I got distracted watching twitch the rest of the night. Mostly it’s laziness. But pacing these out seems at least a little more respectful to put the amount of thought and reflection on each that they deserve lol. 

I’m also gonna try to dig up the paper-diary posts that I was writing at the time. They’re hidden in some notebooks so I’ll try to go back and find them and insert them where they’re appropriate retroactively.

So Mary. Mary was fun. I remember her making me chicken noodle soup when we hung out and got wine drunk at her place before having lots of raucous sex. I remember getting snowed in at her place and building a snowman with her the next day, pouring wine onto the snow on the roof of our cars and eating it off like little wine popsicles. Mary and I were never exclusive, she made it abundantly clear that she was seeing other people. In fact, she was seeing one guy in particular who she was like... dating? Who I Think was under the impression that they were exclusive or something. In so many words, I was her side hoe lmfao. It was fun. Anyway, yeah that’s about it with her. We would still see each other once in a while and she was snapping me for a bit just as friends. We’re still really cool. I think her and her boyfriend are doing well still too, so that’s sweet. And I’d see him out at bars and he wouldn’t kick my ass, though I still don’t really know if he knew if I was fucking her lmao. I remember shaking his hand a few times and still being like “I fucking wonder lmao.”

But yeah, having a girl ask me out was a huge ego boost. Mary was a gem. <3

What’s more, is she gave me faith that maybe dating is worth my time. Maybe there’s actually someone out there in the world who’s as weird as I am. Maybe.
