Note: The game’s dialogue involving the player is always gender neutral. Even though I’m writing the adventurer as female, that dialogue will NOT be changing.

She yanked the noose off the billboard, ignoring the steady clicking coming from the sign’s actively rising totemization count. A STRICT CURFEW OF SUNDOWN IS OBSERVED AT ALL TIMES 190,474...190,475...190,476…TOTEMIZED DAILY She looked at the skyline, a hint of nervousness growing in her gut. “Tch...it’s almost sundown,” she muttered, taking a quick glance at the watch on her wrist. Stuffing the rope into her bag, she began the long descent down the mountain back to Port Foozle. Those jerks in the Hall of Inquisition put that noose there as a joke, but she’d seen enough people choose death over totemization. Besides, having a spare length of rope wasn’t a bad idea...not to mention basically spitting in the Inquisition’s face was a nice perk as well. The Inquisition had shown up a few years back, destroying any and all magic they could get their greasy fingers on. They took the magic, overthrew the Flatheads, removed the Dungeon Master...and, overall, oppressed the people of Zork. She sighed heavily at the memory, picking up the pace as the sky grew darker. The last thing she needed was one of those damn guards giving her trouble for being late, and once she hit the forest edge, she broke into a sprint. “Curfew will begin in one second...CURFEEEEWWWW!” She skidded to a halt at the crossroad sign. “Ha! Made it!” she shouted, taking a moment to catch her breath. She wasn’t quite out of trouble yet; she still needed to get back home, opting to jog the rest of the way home. Port Foozle was a dingy little town surrounded by barbed wire, and covered in an almost unholy amount of Inquisition posters. A filthy looking fish market by the docks greeted her nose first, followed by a sad looking repair shop of sorts owned by the ever-popular Antharia Jack. Beyond that, all that made up this particular portion of town were some houses, an oddly conspicuous stack of hay, and what was once an enchanter’s guild, now painted “DISenchanter’s guild” by some guard. The only sounds at this point in the evening were from the shore and the fishmonger shouting about fish heads. “FISH HEEEAAAADS! FISH HEEEAAADS! GET YOUR ROLY-POLY FISH HEEEAAADS!” Now why she would choose to peddle her wares after curfew was a mystery, but it didn’t matter. Her outside cooler had fish and mead in it… and there was only one fish and mead left. “What a perfect little coincidence.” When she reached out to grab it, an obnoxious alarm sounded. “Trying to steal my fish? Get your own!” When did that old hag get an alarm system…? “Damn…” she muttered, stepping away before any more trouble was caused. Her stomach growled softly, but it was ignorable. The next available problem was a place to stay. She knew damn well her aunt wasn’t going to let her back into the house now that curfew was in place. Maybe Jack…? She walked up to the front door of his shop. “Lanterns Required”? Shaking her head, she gave the door a hard knock. The peephole quickly slid open. “It’s past curfew, and I can’t afford any trouble,” he said briskly, trying to peek around her head. “I can’t afford jack...” he mumbled, “and I AM Jack…” With that, he slide the peephole shut with a clatter. “Well, that’s just great...now what?” She poked around the back alley. Maybe something interesting would be back there? “Nope,” she whispered, finding nothing more than and empty, broken barrel and some cheap Grand Inquisitor toys. A garbled “Who is the boss of you?” sounded from it when she squeezed its midsection. “Back to the dock, then. Maybe the monger will be asleep.” She tried the herring and mead again. Once again, the alarm went off. “Look, it’s past curfew. You’re lucky I don’t call someone over for you hanging around my house! Now get lost!” “Ugh…” Stomping over to the heavy equipment on the dock, she yanked the drop lever. Perhaps she could catch a fish the old fashioned way. Surprisingly enough, the rope twitched. Pushing the lever back up, she watched as the rope slowly began rising from the water. What she didn’t expect was the unicorn fish casually sitting on the hook. “You wouldn’t be fishin’ for anything in particular now, would ya? Because, see, I’m a fish. And you’re, ya know, fishin’. So I gotta ask...YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME, DOCK BOY?! Or dock girl, I can’t really tell. All you people look the same.” With that, it flipped itself back into the water. She just stared for a moment. “What in Yoruk’s name…?” She dropped the hook once more, hoping it would get back on...which it did. “You’re just getting your sea legs, so I’m gonna say it to ya nice: DON’T DRAG YOUR STINKIN’ HOOK THROUGH MY STUFF, OKAY?!” And, just like before, it flipped itself backwards off the hook. Wait, what stuff? What kind of stuff could a fish… Then it hit her. The wanted poster by the ice bin. That fish she’d hooked was wanted by the Inquisition, right? Magic contraband. “Well, I know I’m not planning on turning in a fish...but how do I get my hands on whatever it’s hoarding…?” The peeked at the bin once again. The can of mead left was originally from a six pack, and it was still inside it’s plastic rings. “Well, I suppose killing it wouldn’t be such a bad idea, but how to - oh, I’m an idiot!” She stepped in front of a nearby control panel. “I should have just tampered with the speaker to begin with!” Pushing the green button, the speaker volume went from “SAME AS THE REST” to “THAT’S THE SPIRIT!”. Right at that moment, and announcement started. Now’s my chance! She grabbed the plastic ring and the mead, pleased when all she could hear was “Would someone turn that damn speaker down?! I can’t hear anything over that racket!”. “Alright, Mister Fishy. Time to meet your doom.” She scampered across the dock, pulling the hook over. After removing the solitary drink (which turned out to be mead light, ew), she carefully draped the plastic over the hook. Dropping it back in the water, she waited for what she was hoping was the inevitable. And right on cue… “Ack! Plastic! stuck! around neck! I sense a loooong, but - ack! - touching, death scene!” “Oh, for crying out-would you just d-!” “Whew!” It let out a sigh of relief. “Thank Yoruk for that passing scissor-fish…! That mad fish-strangler can have the dock! I’m outta here!” The rope swayed a bit, and when she lifted the hook from the water...a crate came with it! Pushing a button, it swung around the dock, tossing the crate by her feet. When the front panel fell off, it revealed...a lantern. “A...brass lantern…? This is what it was guarding?” she asked herself in disbelief. She picked it up, wiping a hand on her pants after touching the dripping thing. “Well...no matter. Magic or not, it’ll get me a roof over my head. Let’s see if Jack turns me away now!” With a renewed spring in her step, she headed back towards the old repair shop, knocking on the door once more. This time, Jack wasn’t so quick to dismiss her. “Holy hungus!” he breathed, quickly sliding the peephole shut and unbolting the door. He had to be a good six inches taller than her; adventure-looking type with a cotton button-up, brown leather jacket...were those bracers? “A genuine lantern…!” he said in amazement. “Looks like the one I had with me when I killed that troll with my rusty knife in “Great Underground Adventure IV”,” he preened, giving the lantern an almost fond look. “These things are hard to come by. Now all you get are “flashlights” courtesy of Frobozz Electric,” he grumbled. Suddenly… BZZT! They both flinched in surprise at the sudden spark. “Get in here!” he said, motioning her inside with a jerk of his head. She didn’t need the hint, but followed silently nonetheless. The inside of the “shop” looked more like an old bar or something; full of useless clutter and various items in need of repair. She meandered over to the counter as Jack stepped behind it. As he set down the lantern, she noticed an expensive (and fairly large) box of cigars. “Go ahead! I heisted a whole crate off the Inquisition.” She raised an eyebrow. Giving the cigar in his hand a quick look, he muttered, “Well, I know a guy who knows a guy who heisted a whole crate off the Inquisition. And I paid him.” He smiled at her, shrugging. “Now...where’s my wrench?” he asked, walking off in the direction of what seemed to be a backroom. “Well, don’t mind if I do,” she said quietly, picking one up. She swiped a match off the counter as well, stuffing them both into her bag. She was tempted to dump the contents of the ashtray next to the box, but figured that would be pushing her luck. Before long, Jack had come back with his desired tool. “Looks like this lamp has seen some action,” he commented, setting his cigar down on the ashtray. “Got a lot of carbon scoring here.” He stuck the wrench under the top, grunting a little as he struggled to undo the lid of the lamp. “Let’s see if we can’t just - urgh - take a little -” BZZZT! “Whoa!” he yelped, jumping back. She flinched again as well; this spark had been bigger. And now there was smoke? “What’s making it spark like that?” His nose wrinkled as he sniffed the air. “You smell...spenseweed…?” “WHERE AM I?!” a loud voice boomed as the lamp flashed brightly, sparks flying in various directions. She held up her arms, primarily doing her best to shield her face. Luckily, the sparks bounced harmlessly against her. “What in Yoruk’s name?!” Jack popped up from behind the counter, a racket in hand. “Let me handle this!” He lifted the racket, and...whacked the top of the lantern. “OW!” it yelped. Jack hit it a few more times. “oH OW! CUT IT OUT! OW!” Much to either of their surprise, the lamp stopped. “Hope nobody saw you with that lantern!” he said in a tense voice. “I don’t think so, but why do you care? It’s not like this is…” She stopped. “Wait, is this new to you?” “Oh, don’t look at me like that,” he said, somewhat exasperated. “I’m not a real adventurer. I just played one on T.V.,” he groused, tossing the racket to the floor. “I couldn’t find my way out of a maze if you paid me.” He sighed, facing her. “Well, maybe if you paid me a lot.” She rolled her eyes. “Whatever. What is this thing?” “This thing is magic. It’s been a while, but I know it when I see it.” “Okay?” “Trust me, you don’t want this lamp. Now scram!” “What?! You can’t just kick me out! Forget the lamp, people saw me come in here! It’s after curfew!” she rambled, trying her best to fight Jack’s insistent pushing. In the end, she still landed on her rear. “Damn him,” she whined, getting back up. She pounded on the door. “Jack, give me my damn lantern back!” she growled, only raising her voice enough for him to hear. She heard footsteps returning to the door. “Forget it!” he said, sliding open the peephole once more. “I’m not giving you that lamp. It’s for your own good.” A sly smile crept over his face. “And, uh, mine.” And with a firm clunk, the peephole shut for good. “That...that...gutter rat!” she spat, stomping like a child. Oh, he was gonna pay for that. She had hoped a little blackmail would have been enough; all she’d really needed was a place to spend the night until curfew ended, but now...now, he’d gone and spited her. That lamp was clearly his meal ticket...well, not on her watch. Not when that lamp had some questions to answer. “Alright, wise guy, let’s see how you handle this.” She quickly made her way over to the back alley where she found the talking toys. Conveniently, a pretty little sign with his picture and the phrase “Only You Can Prevent Foozle Fires!” hung nearby...which gave her an even better idea than her previous one. “Let’s see how you handle fire, Mister Big Shot.” She pulled out the match she’d taken from him earlier, striking it against the side of the crate; she also pulled out the cigar, giving it a few swift puffs. “Okie dokie, Yannick...time to burn.” She carefully set the lit match onto the toy’s epaulette, grinning as it slowly caught fire. Before long, the whole thing was ablaze. “Fire! Fire!” she yelled, hoping someone set off the alarm. Sure enough, a bell began to ring. Turning on her heel, she hopped over to the broken barrel, jumping inside. She’d turned around just in time to see the aforementioned dung heap come jogging over to see what was the matter. “You were just supposed to smoke it!” he groaned, seeming to realize who’d caused the problem. He spun around at a sudden exclamation. “AH-HA!” yelled a large looking Inquisition guard. “Arrest the vandal!” he shouted to his partner, waving an unlit flashlight at Jack. “What a load of yipple dung. I’ve been set up!” The heavy guard faced his partner, ignoring Jack altogether. “Go ahead and read him his rights,” he said with a cocky smile. The taller guard dug into a pocket, pulling out a small, official looking book. “You have no rights,” he answered, clearly amused. “Hey!” he suddenly said, a look of recognition on his face. “You’re Antharia Jack! I’m a really big fan of yours! Remember that one time, when you killed that thief who stole all your stuff?” Jack rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed at more than just the burning doll at this point. She had to put a hand over her mouth to keep from laughing out loud. This is just too good…! “Yeah, sure pal. Whatever you say.” “That was first rate. Bloody good.” He faced his partner, pulling out his rapier a little too quickly. “Can I smite him?” he asked through gritted teeth, too excited at the thought. “Hey!” “Oh, I believe smi-smit-smitty, uh, smit-smitation would be appropriate at this juncture,” the he said, waving his flashlight at Jack again. “Go right ahead.” “Oh, I get to smite Antharia Jack! Oh, the guys at headquarters aren’t going to believe this…!” The taller man grabbed Jack by the shoulder, pushing him away quickly. Apparently aware of how ridiculous the situation looked, the leftover guard simply threw his arms up in defeat and walked away. She gave it a moment before climbing back out, dropping immediately to the ground in a fit of laughter. “Serves him right,” she wheezed, wiping the tears from her eyes. “Now...time to get my lantern back.” Peeking around every corner, she carefully made her way back to Jack’s place...and upon further inspection, noticed that it wasn’t a repair shop. There was actually a bunch of adventure equipment, but that wasn’t important. She was here for one thing only: the rusty lantern still sitting on the counter at the back of the store. She delicately lifted its handle. “Um...hello?” “Hey! Thanks for fishing me out of that crate! I don’t think I could have taken another spawning season. And thanks for getting rid of that Jack guy too!” She was a bit stunned at the voice now calmly coming out, but before she could even get one word in, it began speaking again. “We’ve got lots to talk about, but the introductions are going to have to wait. Get me out of this place, before anyone finds me!” Her eyebrows knitted together, but she did as she was asked. Clearly it didn’t want to be found, and she respected that, but… “So, look-” “Hey, hey, hey, not here, okay? Let’s get underground. Then we’ll talk.” “Underground?” she muttered, not sure why it chose that specific word. “Underground...wait, I know.” She gently laid the lantern on its side inside her bag. “I know a place. I just hope it’s what you want.” She didn’t expect an answer, but was a little sad it didn’t reply; so instead, she cautiously made her way outside of Foozle and into the nearby forest. There was only one other place to go: Elsewhere. There was only one thing at the end of that path...a well. She’d gone to that well a few times in the past; usually, it was just to throw rocks down it and attempt to scare the grues below. Her aunt had never liked her going near the thing...said the “MAGIC FOREVER!” graffiti was something to be worried about. Shaking the uneasiness forming in her gut, she went to work tying the rope she’d grabbed earlier around the posts positioned above the well. Giving it a firm yank, she pulled the lamp out. It wasn’t lit, but...well, it had only said it would start talking when they made it underground, right? Squeezing her eyes shut for a moment, she steadied her nerves before grabbing the rope in front of her, and dropping herself into the murky darkness below...

The Final Experiment Chapter 20: What Now?

A/N: Well, first off, I would just like to make some clarifications. Since this is fanfic, I can do whatever the heck I want with my timelines. That being said, I know that the events of First Class through Apocalypse happened in like the seventies and eighties etc., but in TFE, Jean, Scott, and the other younger ones are all Kaitlynn's age and Alex isn't dead. The older ones like Alex, Hank, Ororo, Charles, etc. are all their FC/Apocalypse age/actors, but Bobby, Rogue, and Pyro all exist as well and are also Kaitlynn's age.

**WARNINGS**: Use of a patronizing nickname that could be taken as a disrespectful reference to a physical disability, reference to murder.

Walking out of my room, I adjusted my gloves, silently thanking Professor McCoy for the specialized clothing to help suppress my powers. I waved at Logan--none of that “Professor” stuff with him--and continued on my way out to the gardens. At the base of the old tree, my boyfriend sat waiting. It was bit ironic, that tree. See, the very guy in question had accidentally blasted it to pieces with his powers a while back, but thanks to a mutant with nature powers, dear Professor Xavier’s favorite tree was restored.

“Hey Scott!” I called with a smile.

Looking up, he held his hand out to me. It was a shame that my powers separated us from even just kissing or holding hands, but he seemed cool with the arrangement so I wasn’t going to complain. I had come a long, long way from where I’d started when I first got to the Academy over a year ago.

~One Year Ago~

I woke up to the sound of a heart monitor beeping steadily. Thanks to my new mutations, I immediately noticed several things. First, there were restraints loosely wrapped around my wrists. Second, I had no idea where I was. The most likely deduction was that the Avengers had put me in some sort of SHIELD prison, but something just felt off. I mean, the walls were blue and all futuristic, and it was cool, like I was underground.

I tried to sit up, but was stopped by the restraints. Growling in frustration, I turned my attention towards escape.

“There’s no need for that, Miss Grace.”

The sudden voice in my mind made me jump. It was really strange to hear something that wasn’t my own conscience…

“Get out of my head! Leave me alone… Talk to my face, you telepathic coward. If SHIELD wants to--”

“I am not with SHIELD. Everything will be explained shortly.”

Just then, a panel slid open; a door that disappeared to reveal a scruffy, muscled man who looked like he should be working in a lumbermill. Accompanying him were a tall, sandy blond man with glasses and a woman with a shock-white mohawk.

“Oh wow, so impressive,” I snarked. “Look what not-SHIELD dropped off. A group of freaks to make me feel welcome?” I was throwing up my defenses, trying to assess the situation as I eyed a man in a wheelchair rolling through the door. “Ah, you must be the telepath. Care to tell me the name of this super secret prison?”

“Hey, calm down there, bub,” said the lumberjack.

I responded by cussing him out in Russian. To my surprise, of all people, the timid scientist-looking guy responded with perfect fluency, scolding me for my language.

“I know a guy like you. He’s a hundred-year-old stick-in-the-mud.”

“Ah, I assume you mean Captain Rogers,” said the man in the wheelchair. “He and the others are quite fond of you. They sent you here so we can help you.”

I rolled my eyes. “I can’t be helped.”

Chuckling softly, he replied, “Of course you can.”

“Right, well rather than us agreeing to disagree why don’t you just can it and let me go, Hot Wheels?”

“Hey!” the lumberjack man said sharply. “Show some respect.”

“I think I’d rather stick needles in my eyes,” I muttered. “Or your eyes… That’s an option too.”

“Please calm down…” said the scientist, moving to change my IV. “Look, this serum should neutralize the effects of the biological parasite attached to your DNA. Your mind will clear up a bit here soon. Until then… you should rest.”

“Whatever.”

The woman was quiet through the whole interaction, for which I was glad. I didn’t know where I was, but I wanted out.

Despite my initial hostility, I did start feeling better. Eventually, the scientist, Hank, returned and released the restraints.

“You sure that’s a good idea? I might bite your head off.”

He chuckled. “No, not anymore. You might have a more… prickly personality than before, but I think crazy-psycho murder is off the the table.”

“Great.” I rubbed at my wrists. “So… Now what?”

“Now… Time to meet everyone. Come on.”

So I followed him into a small elevator and then over to an office, probably the Professor’s. Inside, there was a grand bookshelf that made up the back wall. I moved forward and sat in the chair directly in front of the desk.

“How are you now, Miss Grace? Less hostile, I presume?”

I looked up at the telepath as he entered the room. “You’re the Professor of this… school, then? I mean, it has to be a school. Probably a school for mutants… Though that side is definitely secret. Otherwise the anti-mutant groups would’ve nuked this place ages ago.” Glancing around, I noticed the same group of people who had been in the lab before. The lumberjack looking man was watching me with a strange expression. It wasn’t quite curious, but he certainly wasn’t wary. This was a man who wasn’t afraid of anything, but why? His arms were casually crossed in front of his chest as he observed me, as if he were trying to read me like I could read everyone else. His jaw clenched and unclenched, his knuckles flexing as if habitually…

“I’ve never met a feral mutant before…” I continued after only the briefest of pauses. The man’s gaze narrowed, and I turned my attention to Hank. “And you…” I smirked. “Well you’re perfectly beastly, aren’t you?” I’ll admit it, I was just showing off at this point.

“You’ve quite made your point, Miss Grace,” the Professor said, actually looking a bit amused. “The second part of your twofold mutation is quite unique. Though there are two people with mutations rather like your other…”

I paused. “The whole…”

“Yes, that bit.” He wheeled over to the window, motioning for me to stand beside him. When I did, he continued. “I am Charles Xavier, and this is my Academy for Gifted Youngsters… We provide a home for those who are not accepted because of their abilities and a place to safely teach those whose powers are not so easily controlled.”

I nodded, beginning to understand. “And the Avengers think you can teach me. Well I’ll just say it now, you can’t. I know everything there is to know about what I can do, and what I know is that I destroy whatever I touch.”

“You mustn’t assume, Miss Grace. In my experience, mutations are often never what they first seem. Like children, they will grow and change. With you, especially. Since your mutation revealed itself late, it is extremely likely that this is not the full extent of your power. While most mutants would know their complete capabilities by now, you have only begun to scratch the surface.”

“Right…”

“Look kid,” started the lumberjack guy. “You’re definitely not the worst--” He reworded his phrase at a look from Professor Xavier. “The… most difficult case we’ve ever had.”

“Indeed…” the Professor said. “Logan here was quite stubborn as well. I’m sure the two of you will get on like a wildfire.”

I smirked at Logan’s scowl. “Interesting.”

The woman was watching me a little less offensively than before, and Hank was almost smiling.

“Welcome to the Academy then, Miss Grace.”

I tilted my head slightly. “Why do you call me that? Everyone else says ‘Agent’.”

“Because you are not an agent of SHIELD here. You are my student, and from now on, you will act as such. When you are ready to return to the Avengers, you may do so if it is what you wish. But whilst you remain at my school, you will be in the care of my teaching staff, including Logan here, Hank, and our newest addition, Miss Ororo Munroe.” He nodded at each in turn, and the woman gave me sort of a half smile.

Nodding thoughtfully, I glanced out the window to see the students going about their various free time activities. “When do we start?”

Summary: The girl was lost, not to be found. But the guidance tried to seek her, wanted to lead her future.

Amidst the busy hours of people coming and going through the main street in the day, most alleys of Numazu city always silent, covered in blissful tranquility away from crowd. That being said, however, those empty alleys are not void of business. Several houses or buildings were looking plain from the main road, with some of dealings were coming from the back alley; it has been one of activities that merchants mostly done, overlooked by people who refused to know about it or by any normal humans whom have no business with these sellers.

Takami Wondrous Shop was one among them, located far deep in alley of the maze of city houses, known by little to none, housed several items that would make you cringe – well, it was the owner’s way to make the shop sounds mysterious, which is not exactly helping.

“Good morning, Guten morgen, Buon giorno, Chika whatever-it-is-called shop!”

The orange-haired owner didn’t expect anyone to burst her back door open so early in the morning, about time she’s doing a stock operation. She didn’t recall hanging the sign of shop’s closed, so she shouldn’t be blaming the hyper guest to come in without even knocking.

“One language is enough, Mari-chan, I don’t know what you are saying, anyway,” the owner tucked down her hood, seeing her guest smiling from ear to ear. “Oh, and it is Takami Wondrous Shop for you! The almighty granter of your dreams!”

Mari, just like any other costumer, of course didn’t bother to hear Chika’s description, bolting to see the nearby box contained things the owner haven’t put to the over-capacity shelves.

Chika back alley shop is a small, cramped (but she says, ‘homely’ and ‘grand’) square contained only two shelves beside the back door to showcase her items. There’s a table by the center and a cash register by the other side of the exit-a very simple layout for the shop existed and not exactly eye-catching to any customers. Though it is called ‘wondrous’, the shop sells recycled things, hobby items for anyone practicing witchcraft and used books, not as magnificent as the name rings.

Some might wanted to ask what the purpose of this back alley shop the moment they set the foot in, really.

“What do you want today? Isn’t the morning sun burning your skin?” Chika glared Mari to put the doll the vampire suddenly took out from the box. “You’re not with that little thing today.”

“But I’m here for ‘that little thing’.” Mari chuckled, eyes twinkled. “And no, who do you think I am, chickening out for a little sunburn?”

“Bring that little thing then, I missed her pouty face when I lured her with cupcakes!”

“You sly prankster,” the blonde pureblood mused. “I want Mikan to conquer my thirst. Please. Do it quick.”

The password. Chika licked her lower lips. She then bowed before the vampire. “Certainly.”

A table by the center (mostly for Chika to throw in a box of Mikan for unknown purpose aside her several newer items) is where an access to the underground cellar located.

Mari knew there’s someone who has been supplying a creative way to administer blood to vampires around town, it took her awhile to discover the shop after a little coercing to little vampires out there, though. The underground cellar says it all: stacks of different types of sweet is there, among them also bottles of wine and beer and even canned fruits—what makes it different is that all of it is made of blood.

“Lollipops, right? For Ruby-chan?” Chika confirmed the items to Mari before she waltzed to the shelves of candy and snack bars. “How much?”

“One dozen stalks will do for now, I think.”

Mari wondered how Chika’s business has grown this big, all she was doing to the once-nearly-closed-fixture is to give the mikan-loving shopkeeper the access to Ohara’s blood bank. Chika always say that she’s ‘only an occult geek passing by that loves thrills’ but it really surpasses Mari’s expectation. The Duchess of the Old Mansion was elated by the discovery of a human crafted another way for vampires to enjoy their palate, though there is times when Mari asked herself why she gave Chika a chance for this long. Maybe her vampire ego—one to seek solace—is dulled, or it is of pure curiosity, Mari doesn’t know the answer.

“A blood wine?” Mari pulled one of the casket to get a better view. “It is, like, 100% pure blood in?”

“Of course not, I’ll be bankrupt in no time,” Chika said. “It has more of grapes, but I tell you that most customers loves it. You might want to take one home.”

“Maybe later, I’ll take you up on it.”

Mari continued to examine nearby shelves on her reach, watching in awe that Chika got bigger and wider selection. Some of it already have a ‘reserved’ tag, also there’s a label for trial products. Chika is really thorough with her items.

“You know, there’s something odd going on in the city lately,” Mari shot her eyebrows up. She turned to see Chika has yet moving from the sweet shelves on her left, digging to several boxes for candies. “This one vampire customer of mine, he suddenly had an outbreak during the night, five hunters needed to take him down.”

“Oh, really?”

“You don’t know?” there’s a tint of surprise in Chika’s voice. “Though you’re considered to be the vampire’s ruler here?”

“Come on, Chikacchi.” Mari strikes with a playful tone. “Sometimes humans will not inform me if it’s just a single outbreak. He must be really hungry and went out of control.”

“Well, there have been several cases with this kind of outbreak lately, newborns were worried and come to shop often—not like I’m complaining, though!” the shop owner laughed. “Can’t say that it’s ‘usual stuff’ anymore.”

There has been no new information from few of her informants around the town, or news from Elder Kurosawa either. Mari feel the need to ask around bars and shacks she frequently visited, but she wasn’t there for it today.

Chika got back with a carton bag, twelve stalks of said lollipop popping from the opening. “Here. On the house.”

Mari hummed, “Now it’s rare for you to be generous.”

“You need to bring that little one next time, say that I have a bag of thousand candies or rainbow cupcakes or something!”

For now, she should keep Chika’s information in mind. She could gather more later about this ‘odd vampire outbreak’ or she could wait until someone come to tell her everything from her information web. Although, the ‘vampire movement’ Chika mentioned is suspicious, Mari doesn’t want to indulge more today, she’s in a mere ‘picking candy’ errand today.

“I’ll take my leave now, then, I’ll see you next time, Chikacchi. I hope some new information from you later.”

“Takami Chika, at your service!”

When opening her eyes, the first thing she saw is Yoshiko up-close, squinting her eyes.

“Ah, you’re awake.” Yoshiko said with a sulk.

Ruby reflexively covered her face. “P-Pigii!”

“I said I’m not into eating vampires.” There’s a groan, before she continued. “My lady ordered me to check up on you since you’re ... well ... sleeping a lot.”

Yoshiko floated away as Ruby got up, seeking for any clock available or windows open to tell her about time. Finding none except books’ shelves and closed curtains, Ruby turned, “W-What time is it?”

“Afternoon, I guess? I didn’t check,” the devil shrugged. “I’ll call my lady to say that you’ve woken up. Stay there.”

Ruby watched Yoshiko left, before she let out a sigh. Is there a point to go back home, really? she thought to herself. The face of hatred on her sister’s face is engraved in her memory and doesn’t cease to disappear.

Her eyes tried to find a comfort through the silent library she is in. Surrounded by bookshelves lined like a maze is something new, though she could say she’s getting dizzy to try and look at how many books available in one shelf. Kanan’s presence and smell are nowhere to be found near, the doctor must’ve been returning to her duty by the city since Yoshiko said that it is already past the noon.

Not long with her reminiscence, the door swung open revealing Maru with Yoshiko and the tray containing two cups of tea. Seeing the crease on Ruby’s forehead, Maru took her seat right beside the vampire, holding the cold hands that stayed on her lap. Yoshiko put down the respective cups and floated back, staying idle.

“Are you okay now?” is Maru’s first question. Ruby watched those chestnut-colored eyes were clean, sincere. It was like when the first time they met.

“I’m okay, thank you for your help, Maru-chan.” Ruby clasped Maru’s hands back, entwining their fingers. “Oh, umm ... don’t you find it strange to touch cold hands of mine?”

“Is it?” Maru tilted her head. “I find it nice. It’s a great discovery to get in close with a vampire.”

“Really?” Ruby squeaked. Maru nodded in response.

“Though it must be hard for you, right?” the chestnut-haired woman fiddled their tangled fingers. “You’re the pride of Kurosawa’s hunter family, too.”

“It’s Onee-chan, not me.” Ruby gave a curt reply, feeling a bitter tang on her tongue as she spoke about her older sister. The woman beside her must have noticed, for her to give Ruby another squeeze.

“Ruby-chan,” Hanamaru shot a knowing look. “No one will hate you of how you changed, believe me. You are doing it of your free will and good reasoning. Please don’t hate yourself over it.”

It was as if Hanamaru knew everything without bothering to ask, or perhaps her behavior and uncertainty were too easy to read. Maru has been enigmatic during her librarian duty as long as Ruby remembered, she would be elated by the new discovery yet she is having a great knowledge about past history that would make anyone astonished. There were several times when Maru being called out to fill in the task of deciphering old archives or explaining history of hunters to the new recruits; Maru has this air of a sage, while showing herself to be a perfectly plain librarian.

The friendship they shared during that short time of working together in the library is like a miracle for Ruby, to see herself now being saved by her hospitality and bits of advice.

Yoshiko, who remained static as a third party all the time, spoke, “Enough about this sappy mood, why don’t you two drink your tea and calm down?”

Both Ruby and Maru looked at Yoshiko in unison, turned to the waiting tea and back to the groaning devil. “Why are you giving me that look? The tea is getting cold, y’know?”

Dia busied herself to clean her sword when there’s a knock to the front door below. She has been locking herself since morning to check several untouched reports the Guild sent to her and cleaning her sword, took her some time before she noticed that someone knocked. She thought Ruby is back and that she’ll open the door herself when she knew the door is unlocked, but the knocks keep on going.

“... I wonder who.”

Messengers from Guild never knock the door, just to slide the paper beneath the door, so it is highly-unlikely that the guest is from her line of job. There has been no one from Kurosawa family bothered to give her a visit after she moved in there with Ruby, so it might not be them. The raven-haired huntress promptly descended from her room to welcome the guest.

One click. The door is open. The day already breaks by the orange sky and on her eye level, a certain blonde smiling back at her.

Dia quickly shot the door close reflexively.

“Dia~” she could hear the whine outside.

What is the vampire doing here in broad daylight? It is in the afternoon but still a bit far from nighttime, the vampire shouldn’t be walking around and even visiting her, it’s ridiculous—

“Dia~ open the door~”

She heaved a sigh, Dia leaned to the door. It’s not like Mari would go away with her warning, she knew how dense the vampire sometimes. “What do you want, Mari-san? You know that I’m not even close to forgive you.”

“I need to give something important~”

“Talk to my sword."

“I’m serious!” her voice is nowhere near that, though. It’s more like her usual teasing, high-pitched tone which made Dia cringed. “Open the door, please?”

Even when Dia came out with her sword ready, Mari has the same goofy grin ever. Maybe for an old vampire like her, being threatened with weapon wasn’t something new; she must have lived during the dark days of war between supernaturals, or something Dia won’t love to pry.

Mari about to take her step, “One step and this blade will take your head.”

“Okay~” the vampire walked back.

“You have five minutes to state your reason for coming here.”

Mari opened her paper bag, showing the content to Dia, stalks of candies. “Trick or treat!” Dia is ready to slice her silly hair twirl into half. “Wait, wait, wait, I’ll stop joking!”

With a grunt, Dia gave Mari another glare, lowering her sword to Mari’s relief, tucking it back to the scabbard.

“I take that Ruby is not home because of the full moon yesterday,” the vampire began, Dia’s eyebrow twitched at the mention of ‘full moon’. “So I’ll give this to you for your little sister.”

Mari handed the paper bag, Dia quickly took one stalk to see the actual shape of the candy inside. Round red lollipop wrapped in plastic cover with mikan mark on it, with an orange-colored ribbon tied.

“Don’t eat it, Dia. It’s a candy made with blood!” Mari warned. “I have it specially made because Ruby refused to drink from a human when she transformed.” Dia squinted, watching Mari with disbelief. Though, Mari paid no mind on it and continued. The raven-haired hunter examined the candy once more. “Candy is Ruby’s favorite, right? So I asked for the supply of it to my network.”

It took her back that Ruby has a sweet tooth. She’d be back with sweets, be it little candies to confections along with her other things every time it was her turn to shop for dinner. Ruby won’t forget to buy something for her sister, too, and it would make a good dessert after the dinner.

“Yeah ... she loves sweets,” Dia murmured, closely taking notes on how Mari gestured. “So, that’s it?”

Mari nodded. “That’s that.”

How many times has passed since both of them had been living ... happily?

After the tea and several times of pondering inside her mind while talking casually with Maru (and Yoshiko occasional interruption and silly remarks), Ruby decided that she will be going home. She had left her sister with no certain explanation, not to mention that it was of her will to live this way.

The vampire couldn’t say to Maru that she has a bit of worry swelling inside her heart after the light and happy talk. A part of her doesn’t want to share about her sister and how hard her life have been. Ruby acknowledged Maru as her friend; she’s able to express herself openly in front of her, but she felt that the issue between her ‘identity’ and her ‘will to live’ are for her to resolve, not for her to share.

They passed the road of flower garden in Maru’s front yard. Collection of small flowers bloomed coloring the garden, it was a beautiful sight in the eye of winter. No speck of snow or coldness covering the front yard, Ruby wondered whether it was one of Yoshiko’s power of illusion or something along the line. Ruby crouched down to try pick one of the shrubs. She thought that the flower will disappear, but it was real, it felt so real that she couldn’t help but to try and grasp it with her palm.

“Aren’t you curious how to make these bloom?” Maru asked when Ruby looked around her garden in awe.

“What flower are these? It’s so pretty. I never know there’s a beautiful flower growing in Winter.”

The chestnut-haired woman nudged at Ruby’s arm. Ruby turned to ask when Maru, who’s sitting beside her on the lush of the garden, tucked her hair behind her left ear to place some pink flowers on its wake.

“Azalea,” Maru breathed. “These flowers bloom in spring. It’s my power enables me to grow flowers outside of their season.” Ruby reached for the pale pink petals, slowly her lips stretched into a smile. “This flower suits you, Ruby-chan. I hope you’ll grow like how these petals bloom.”

Maru was sending Ruby out alone, Yoshiko is nowhere to be seen accompanying them. The crimson-haired vampire sensed the urge to hurry before the sun disappeared from the horizon, but she found herself lazing around the green garden, lying herself down and Maru plopped right next to her.

She wasn’t ready to go home, but-

“So, have you calmed down?” she asked so suddenly.

Ruby tried to give Maru the widest smile she could as an answer, “Mm. Thank you for everything, Maru-chan.”

“It’s the least I can do,” Maru said. “You’re always welcome for the tea, Ruby-chan.”

-she must return, she doesn’t want to make her sister worry. After all, it is also her drive to stay living.

Dia and Mari exchanged silence for some time, Dia still checking up on each and every stalk that Mari brought for Ruby.

How many times has passed since both of them had been living happily?—the question popped inside her mind, swirling without her bothering to answer. Ever since that night coming, she’s no longer seeing Ruby as the same; she didn’t know what to say, what to ask, what to do with contradictions living in her heart.

“Mari-san?”

“Hmm?”

“How’s she after she’s being turned?” Dia wasn’t trying to be thorough in her question, she didn’t want to.

A soft smile played on the vampire’s lips, Dia held her stare sharp and unfriendly. “She’s miserable,” Mari paused to see Dia’s expression stays. “She’s not suitable to be a vampire, she wanted to stay human.”

The raven-haired hunter response is a blink, unfazed.

“Didn’t I say to you don’t be too hard on her?” Mari hummed. Dia was still, rigid. “Though it’s ... up to you. I never experienced to be an older sister who lost her little sister before.”

“... you know my creed, Mari-san.”

Behind the vampire’s back, the sun is about to go down. Loud beaks of birds leaving the forest could be heard from afar, the forest grown quieter as the afternoon current swept branches of trees and clouds darkened.

“Oh, the little girl is home~”

Dia moved to put away the bag when Mari turned to see the crimson-haired huntress coming from the direction of the forest. Her clothes a bit tattered but it wasn’t dirty or torn, she was okay from head to toe. Mari pressed a bit about full moon earlier, maybe Ruby sudden outburst last night is due to the moon. Dia doesn’t want to indulge for details, though, at least not today.

“I’ll stop here for today,” Golden speck of dusts warmed to her once before the vampire bowed, setting her foot aside and ready to leave. “Good day, Dia.”

Ruby was baffled to see Mari there but she didn’t raise any voice to greet the vampire guest as she brushed past. The crimson-haired huntress looked at the door way to see Dia stood still, blandness colored her facade.

“Good luck, little vampire.”

The little vampire didn’t look back to where the whisper went; with the small hope she clenched in her fist for everything to be okay, she steeled her way.

“I ... I’m back, Onee-chan.”

Not even a minuscule shift of the usual warm, welcoming smile was present, of course, that has to be expected from her sister. Those emerald examined her, then Dia handed the paper bag she’s holding to meet her gaze; Ruby only blinked.

“It’s for you, from Mari-san,” it was off, void of any emotion. “So you still have your sweet tooth.”

Ruby received the bag, checking the popping stalks of candies from Takami Wondrous Shop inside. Dia turned back to hug the direction of her room, but with a pause. “How long do you intend to stand there? Come on in. The night will be here soon.”

The raven-haired huntress finished her part, Ruby was beyond surprised, watching the back disappeared to ascend the stairs and to the door of Dia’s room.

How many times has passed since both of them had been living happily?—the question popped inside the huntress’ mind, swirling in the direction where her heart speaks.

Dia clutched the contradiction in her heart, her staggering mind, and her own answer.

Electra Rah Kai, Chapter Master of the Sister Repentia

“My Lady served loyally, my Lady served bravely, and my Lady was forgotten. We remain my brothers and sister. Fight by my side, and our enemies will never forget us!” - Lady Commander Electra Rah Kai addressing the Twilight Repentia after their awakening.

Lady Commander Electra Rah Kai is the current Chapter Master of the Twilight Repentia, former lieutenant within the Imperial Army, a founding member of the Sister Repentia and the Legion’s greatest hero. She is idolized by her fellow Arbites, short of their Primarch, and serves as an example of how far one can achieve regardless of how were born. She is arguably the oldest human living since she spent the majority of the past ten-thousand years within cryosleep. She and her Legion have recently been awakened by the Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes.

Biography

Early History

Electra was born into a lesser noble house of Gyptus, who was spared the horrors of war by siding with the Emperor early on. She was the youngest of six siblings in her family, therefore, according to tradition goes, she joined the Emperor’s Imperial Army. She served in serval campaigns during the later years of the Unification Wars, most notably in against the Panpacific Empire, earning rank and accolades. After serving for 8 years, she and one hundred other women were transferred to the Emperor’s personal retinue. They became candidates to start the first female Adeptus Astartes Legion to give to his missing daughter. Of the One-hundred candidates, eighty percent died during the transformation while another ten were so damaged that they had to remain in stasis. Electra and ten other women were the only candidates who survived the transformation into Astartes.

They were tested on minor campaigns against the remaining micro-nations on Terra and then later fighting the Xeno and mutant life-forms in the Sol System while the Emperor created more Astartes to fill their ranks using males instead. Because of this the Twilight Repentia - then referred as the Sister Repentia - had very limited combat exposure and would only be used as support units or as garrisons on newly conquered worlds. Electra was elected by her peers to serve as the leader until their Primarch was found, and was able to procure useful equipment for her slowly building legion.

Daughter of the Oracle

When their Primarch was found on Hope’s Landing, Electra was the only one who was not filled with joy. Instead, she saw the finding as too late to do any good that late in the Great Crusade. She was not moved by Artemis’s speech and went so far to challenge her to an honor duel over the leadership of the legion. Artemis agreed and fought her Chapter Master unarmed and unarmored while Artemis was encased in Power Armor. She lost to her Primarch who simply danced around her attacks. Ashamed at her loss and arrogance at the hands of one of the Emperor’s children, she asked Artemis for her resignation. Artemis refused, stating that Electra only thought of what was good for the Legion. She remained as Chapter Master of the newly named Twilight Repentia and was trained in the same ways Artemis was. Soon the Twilight Repentia received the glory they felt they deserved and Electra became a part of Artemis’s personal guard, the Valkyries. From there she became Artemis’s protegee’s, and they developed a close relationship.

Electra battled Gorzkull da Face-Rippa during the Orais 3 campaign, which robbed the Second and Eleventh Legion the glory of Ullanor. She fought the Ork Warboss in single combat and had almost won if it was not for the Ork’s latent weird abilities at the last minute. The following psychic blast knocked Electra out and at the mercy of the Warboss. Unfortunately for Gorzkull, the Primarchs soon took his skull. For her courage in battle, Electra was gifted with Tartaros Pattern Terminator Power Armor with an Iron Halo of Invulnerability and a new power-sword called Faithful Guardian

Battle Against Temptation

Electra and the rest of the First Company accompanied their Primarch to the surface of Eden Superior. In the shadow of pyramid-temples of the planet’s main city, their Primarch went to the tallest temple to meditate while the rest of the Company explored the surroundings. With their Vox network blocked, teams had to go out and report back in regular times. They found several underground caverns that were filled with treasure and skeletal remains of the indigenous Xenos lifeforms, locked forever in sensual embraces. Electra ordered her Company out of the caverns when the top half of the Grand Temple exploded in a shower of the city below in heavy stones. Electra saw that her Primarch had been fighting a Grand Deamon of Slaneesh, and was currently unconscious due to the psychic blast. Lifting Faithful Guardian high, Electra cried out “Nos Soltare” and lead the charge.

As she and the First Company charged up the temple’s step, strange visions began to alter her vision. Soon Electra could not tell reality and fantasy, finding herself back her ancestral on Terra. These visions did not last long as odd being began to dance around the Greater Daemon, distracting it enough for her Company to begin firing on it. Soon, they found they were no longer alone as Eldar began to appear and fire upon the daemon as well. Electra charged forward and plunged Faithful Companion into the Greater Daemon’s heart, sending it screaming back into the Warp and repaying the life debt she owed her Primarch.

Afterward, uneasy truce came between the Eldar and Astartes. Though grateful for assisting them against the daemon, she was unsure what to do with them. The protocol called for their annihilation, but she found it unhonorable to attack an ally who was not openly aggressive. She tried to communicate with them, but to no avail, and soon tensions started to grow. Before battle could start Artemis awoke and started to speak in the Eldar tongue, much the Electra’s and First Company’s surprise. Artemis called for an alliance with the Eldar who raised her, and though Battle Chaplin Jane Borella argued, they agreed when Artemis pointed out the hypocrisy of the Imperial Creed in the changing times

Alliance with the Eldar

Electra was unsure working with the Eldar of Tir-Xala, however, they proved to be stalwart allies when Artemis went to confront the Wolf and Dragon. With Artemis’s approval, the Bonesingers and techmarines started to reoutfit their Legion. Infusing their power armor with wraithbone to make them lighter and more flexible without losing their defensive capabilities. When asked if what they were doing was heretical, Electra responded that everyone is a heretic now.

Twilight on Terra

The Twilight Repentia fought their former allies on Terra, going through Chaos Daemons and fallen Astartes like a scythe through wheat. Electra commenced with raids against corrupted supply routes and assassinate major targets. She and the remaining Legionaries were called back to the palace to assist Artemis in defending Malcador the Hero while the Emperor fought Horus on the Vengeful Spirit.

When the Emperor was placed on the Golden Throne, Artemis gathered her Valkyries and told them that they would be placed in cryogenic sleep, and would only be awakened if the Imperial Palace fell to the Ruinous powers and the Throneworld was threatened. She would go into the Warp and take the fight to Chaos. Electra insisted that she should accompany her Primarch, but Artemis refused to state that the Twilight Repentia would need a leader when and if they were to be awakened. Though broken at first, she understood that Artemis only wanted to protect her Legion.

The Awakening

Currently, the XIth had been taken out of cryosleep. Their motives and goal remain unknown but await the arrival of the Primarch of the XIIIth Legion, Roboute Guilliman.

Personality

Electra Ra Kai is a typical Astartes: proud, valiant, faithful, protective of her Battle Brothers, Sisters and trusted allies and the bane of any who dares stand against the Imperium. She is a hard worker and strongly believes in following orders. She is generally reserved and has a completely different personality to her Primarch who is arrogant, fat and greedy. Unlike most the other Valkyries she doesn’t show any outward compassion to any of her subordinate, as she believes that personal struggle builds character, however, she is more than willing to do whatever it took to ensure their safety. Like most Imperials, she loathes and greatly distrusts aliens; it is for this reason she displayed incredible disdain for the Eldar in her initial encounters during the Great Crusade. However, over time, her disdain for them gradually lessened as she learned of her Primarch’s upbringing and realised the Eldar and her Legion shared a common goal.

Appearance

Before her transformation to an Astartes, Electra had classical Gyptus features: light brown skin, amber eyes, red hair, and sharp facial features. On accepting the gene-seed, her features changed, becoming more like her Primarchs. Her skin turned to a copper hue and her red hair turn black. Electra found that her hair might be a distraction under her helmet so she repeating shaves it off.

Wargear

Wraithbone Infused Power Armor - This pattern is issued to the Veterans of a Chapter’s 1st Company and is considered the most advanced form of Tactical Armour. It shared many systems with the Mk IV Maximus-pattern power armor whilst providing greater mobility for the wearer compared to the Indomitus with no loss in durability. While on Tir-Xala, the Bonesingers were able to infuse the armor with psycho-sensitive material which reacts instantly to Electra’s movement by and molds and reshapes itself to provide a tight fit, making it ideal for Electra’s combat style.

Iron Halo

Faithful Companion - It is a massive, one-handed swords, nearly as long as an average man is tall and extremely devastating both in open field and in narrow confines. It was awarded to Electra after the war with da Face-Rippa.

Storm Shield

(So another OC made. I figure to do the Chapter Master of the Twilight Repentia, just to give an idea how powerful and badass these lady marines are. I origanally based Electra off the gerudo from Legend of Zelda, and she still has a few of those features. Also… I am aware that no way in the warp would the Eldar share their tech with us stinky mon’keighs, but these are my ocs and with Guiliman coming back, Ynead doing whatever she wants, and a possible Chaos incursion on Macragge, I figure waithbone infused terminator armor actually sounds semi-plausible.)

New cities for GTA San Andreas thanks to a mod

A team of fans wants to move the cities of all Rockstar games to GTA San Andreas.

Zack Zwiezen from Kotaku has made an interesting article in which he collects the great effort of different fans to integrate through different city mods to GTA: San Andreas. Throughout the years different amateur initiatives have been appearing that try to gather, in the same map, different locations of the games of the GTA franchise, although most of them have found problems on the part of Rockstar. Perhaps the best known was the case of OpenIV that tried to add Liberty City, from GTA IV to GTA V, but it is not the only one. GTA Underground is possibly the most important project of its kind, as it plans to add the entire 3D Universe of Rockstar to a giant map that can be played at GTA San Andreas. A very ambitious idea that Rockstar himself studied in 2012 and which meant being able to travel from one city to another in each of his games. The interesting article points out the challenges that these fans are facing in such a huge task. For example, when recreating areas that were not originally planned as parts of a map within these scenarios. The problems multiply when these fans try to even add elements of Bully, Canis Canem Edit, which are not designed to interact with the player in the same way that happens with Grand Theft Auto. It is a work plan that has also been growing in ambition, also increasing the challenges and complications that this team of fans must face. Initially, it was only intended to add Vice City and Liberty City to GTA San Andreas but now it intends to add the entire 3D universe of Rockstar. GTA Underground is currently working on a beta version of this mod, and interested fans download a previous version and know all the updates about the project can follow the development of it from ModDB.
