Florence Nightingale
Summary: WW2 has arrived and instead of staying in Birmingham, you followed them to the front lines - as a nurse
A/N: I think this is the longest fic I’ve written yet! I’ve had this idea in my head for a while and it feels good to finally get it down :)
Tumblr media
The First World War had taken a lot from you. Your whole family was changed by those events and it haunted you al.
But when the news of the Second World War broke out, you knew that your whole life was about to be rocked. Your entire family was of age and was being sent to the front. The women were rising up to take over again.
Whilst the rest of your family stayed at home, working in the factories and helping evacuate children to the countryside, you made the decision to head to the front as a nurse, helping those injured by the fighting.
As much as you missed your family, you hoped that you’d never see them until their days off or until the war was over. I’d you saw them in the hospital, your heart would break into two.
You hadn’t told your brothers that you’d enrolled as a nurse on the front line, they would’ve freaked out and forced you to come back home. You waited until they’d gone before enrolling so they couldn’t do anything.
It was a very busy day in your hospital. A bomb had reached the trenches and dozens of soldiers were injured and in need of help. All around you, bombs were exploding and the sound of gun fire over powered the screams of pain.
Ironically, it felt like Birmingham.
“Y/N!” Patrick, the doctor in charge of the hospital, yelled at you. “I need you!”
“Coming!” You called back, wiping your hands in a towel and running over to where the latest soldier had been brought in.
“Shrapnel in his arm and side,” Patrick told you as they lifted the soldier into a bed. “I’m assuming you can manage?”
“Go,” you nodded, pushing Patrick out the door to go deal with those in worse shape.
You turned around to face the soldier and froze.
“No,” you whispered, shaking your head furiously. “Arthur?”
Your brother groaned and you immediately snapped back into your nurse mentality, sitting down on the side of the bed with a bowl of hot water, tweezers and a cloth to pull the shrapnel out of your brother.
This was your worse nightmare come true.
-
Night had fallen hours ago and you were sitting by Arthur’s side, carefully changing his bandages and cleaning them.
Your brother groaned softly and you looked up to see him slowly waking up.
“Arthur?” You asked softly, moving closer to him.
“Y/N?” Arthur asked, frowning. “What?”
“A bomb exploded in your trench,” you told him gently. “You’re in the hospital.”
“What? In Birmingham?”
You paused. “No, in France. At the front line...I’m a nurse.”
Arthur’s head turned to face you snd you had told hold him down (which wasn’t very difficult) to stop him from tearing his stitches.
“No, you can’t be -“
“Arthur, calm down otherwise I’ll have to knock you out again,” you warned him and he actually listened to you for once.
The two of you fell into silence for a while as you continued to clean his wounds, holding his hands when he hissed in pain.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Arthur asked quietly after a while.
“Because you would’ve stopped me,” you said simply. “I didn’t want to just do nothing. My whole family’s here, why shouldn’t I?”
“If Tommy knew, he’d kill you,” Arthur muttered.
“He’d also be under my care so I could sedate him if I wished,” you shot back, smirking and Arthur chuckled.
“You know, Finn and Michael are under my command,” Arthur said.
“Really?” You asked, trying not to sound too hopeful.
“Yeah, managed to call in a favour and get them with me to keep an eye on them.”
“They weren’t with you when the bomb exploded, were they?” You asked nervously.
Arthur shook his head. “No, they were over the top when it happened. They’re fine, y/n.”
“I know, if they weren’t I’d know.” You sighed. “Try and get some sleep, Arthur. I’ll be right here.”
“Don’t you need to sleep?” Arthur asked as you settled down in your chair.
“Not much chance of that happening, Artie, “ you replied, smiling. You grabbed his hand and held it as he fell asleep.
Twenty years later and the roles had completely reversed.
-
The next morning came far too quickly for you. Arthur had slept the entire night, thankfully, and you had left him with Marie as you went to get him some breakfast.
“He’s our commanding office and our brother!”
You frowned at the yelling come from the front entrance. You turned around and walked back the way you came, bedding towards the yelling which was increasing in crescendo.
“Hey!” You called, silencing everyone in the room. “What is the problem here?”
“We want to see our commanding officer,” the soldier doing most of the yelling told you. “He was brought in last night after the bomb explosion...”
You stopped listening as you stared at the two soldiers in front of you, trying to figure out why you recognised them.
“Michael?! Finn?!” You exclaimed, cutting them off.
Finn frowned at you. “Y/N?!”
You gasped as Finn launched himself at you, hugging you tightly and spinning you around.
“What the hell?” Michael laughed, joining in on the hug as you dismissed the nurse behind the desk.
You couldn’t help but cry as you hugged your twin and your cousin.
“Is Arthur -“ Finn began, pulling away.
“He’s fine, I’ve been with him the entire night, Finny. I promise you, he’s fine.”
“Can we see him?” Michael asked. You nodded and gestured for them to follow you. You didn’t let go of Michael’s hand as you led them through the maze of corridors and walls to the room where Arthur was.
“Finn? Michael?” Arthur asked, trying to sit up.
“Don’t you dare, Arthur Shelby,” you scolded, forcing him back down. “I don’t want to have to stitch my brother back together again.”
“You’ve gotten bossy,” Finn teased and you elbowed him in the ribs.
“I need to go and do my rounds,” you told them. “I’ll be back in about two hours. Don’t do anything stupid, otherwise you’ll get kicked out.”
Finn kissed your cheek as you left and you gave him a smile.
-
Your rounds had taken you two hours, but you’d yet to get back to Arthur as an influx of newly injured soldiers arrived. You’d been caught up frantically arranging the beds, stitching injured soldiers up and holding the hands of those who were dying.
They’d gone over the top again that afternoon and plenty of soldiers had gotten caught up in the rain of bullets and bombs raining down around them.
You’d been tending to one badly injured soldier when two more came in - one with bullets in his stomach and leg and another with a shattered right leg due to a bomb explosion.
Patrick had done his best with them both, but wasn’t sure if they’d last the night. You, the new Florence Nightingale according to many soldiers, offered to sit with them both during the night, just in case.
But as you headed over to their beds, which were situated against the back wall, you finally caught a glimpse of the poor soldiers.
And you nearly fell to the ground in shock.
Tommy and John lay next to each other, both pale and practically dead. Tommy’s stomach was pierced with bullets and John’s leg was smashed to pieces, a cage set around it. Your heart dropped to your stomach as you pulled a chair to sit in between them.
You carefully took each of their hands and sat there quietly. You weren’t going to tell Arthur, it would make him even iller than he was.
“You alright?” Marie asked you quietly, noticing your face.
“Basically, my entire family is in this building. Two of my brothers are dying next to me and I’ve no idea how to tell Finn or Michael if they die. Oh god, I’d have to tell Polly.”
Marie put a hand on your shoulder and squeezed it gently. “Let me know if you need me, y/n.”
You smiled sadly at her as she walked off. The evening passed quickly, but the night went painfully slowly. You’d asked Marie to let Arthur know you’d been caught up with an influx of patients so wouldn’t be back for a while and you stayed with Tommy and John the entire night.
It was early the next morning when you finally began to doze off. It was the first time you’d slept in two days and as much as you didn’t want to, you couldn’t help it.
But when someone squeezed your hand, you instantly work up. You blearily looked over and saw John slowly waking up, squeezing your hand as he did.
“John?” You questioned softly, letting Tommy’s hand go and turning to face John fully.
“Y/N?” He mumbled. “Am I dead?”
You chuckled softly, trying not to cry. “No, but you nearly were.”
“Am I in Birmingham?” John asked, slowly turning his head to look at you.
“No, you’re still in France. I enrolled as a nurse for the army.”
“Huh, good for you,” John muttered, falling back to sleep.
You smiled sadly as your brother passed out again. You didn’t let go of his hand, re - adjusting your position so that you could hold Tommy’s hand too.
You fell asleep again, only waking when Patrick shook your shoulder.
Your immediate thought was that someone had died.
“Who’s -“
Patrick shook his head. “They’re both fine, y/n,” he reassured. “I came to tell you that there’s room next to Arthur if you want to move them.”
You nodded. “Thank you, Patrick.”
“They made it through the night; hopefully they’ll get it through the next two days,” Patrick told you.
“Tommy hasn’t woken up yet, but John briefly woke up last night,” you told him, standing up and yawning.
“That’s good,” Patrick replied, smiling. “Go and check on your other brothers, I’ll have John and Tommy brought through shortly.”
You got up and walked through the corridors towards Arthur’s room.
“Hey, y/n,” Michael called as you walked past him. “You ok?”
That was all it took for you to completely break down in front of your cousin. Michael quickly caught you in his arms, guiding you to the floor as you sobbed.
“Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” He asked softly, stroking your hair.
“Tommy and John came in last night,” you told him through your tears. “They’re in a bad shape and I don’t know if they’re going to survive -“
You cut yourself off as a fresh wave of tears hit you and Michael sighed sadly, hugging you tighter. You and Michael may have had your arguments the past few years, but you’d never been so grateful for your cousin before.
“You don’t have to be strong all the time, sweetheart,” Michael told you. “I know that your brothers are injured, but Finn and I are here and we can take up the slack. It’s ok to not be ok.”
You nodded, trying to calm yourself down as Michael kissed your head. “They’re being moved into Arthur’s room, if you want to see them.”
Michael nodded, helping you stand up. He put an arm around your shoulders and guided you down the corridor to Arthur’s room.
-
Michael watched you sleep next to Arthur, your brothers arm wrapped over your shoulders, holding you against him tightly. Tommy and John were in beds next to you, both still unconscious.
Finn and Michael had forced Patrick to sign you off your job so that you could spend time with your dying brothers and had take up the job of looking after you all.
Michael looked up as a groan came from Tommy. He stood up and headed over to his cousin, sitting down next to him.
“Tommy?” Michael asked quietly, trying not to wake you. “Are you with us?”
“Michael?” Tommy asked, scrunching his face up. “What?”
“You’re in hospital. So are John and Arthur.” Michael caught his cousin as he tried to sit up, forcing him back down. “They’re fine, Tommy. They’re right here.”
Tommy looked over and saw John, visibly relaxing. He turned his head the other way and saw Arthur and then you.
“What? Why is y/n here?” Tommy demanded, his voice still holding an air of authority despite the pain he was in.
Michael sighed. “She enrolled as a nurse on the front line. She’s been here since Arthur was brought in three days ok. First time she’s slept since.”
At the mention of your name you woke up, rolling over and spotting that Tommy was awake.
“Tommy!” You exclaimed, jumping off the bed and walking over to your brother. “Are you alright?”
“I’m better for seeing you, sweetheart,” Tommy said, smiling broadly.
“Thank god,” You muttered, bowing your head in relief.
“Tommy?” John grumbled, waking up to all the noise.
“What’s going on?” Arthur asked, also waking up.
“Oh, now they all wake up,” you muttered to Michael and he giggled.
You were so grateful that all of your family was safe and well. Yes, there were still years left of a war that could still kill them all, but for now it was all perfect.
You laid down next to Tommy, curling up into his side as he, Arthur and John caught up with each other. Finn and Michael joined in, Finn sitting down next to John.
“I missed you, Tom,” you whispered to your brother, kissing his cheek.
“Missed you too, gorgeous,” your brother replied and you smiled.
“Just, next time you want a family reunion, don’t fucking kill yourselves in the progress,” you said, loud enough for them all to hear. “I don’t think I can cope with it again.”
“She’s gotten bossy,” John muttered and you threw a cushion at his head.
“That’s what I said!” Finn exclaimed and you threw another pillow at your twin.
“I’m regretting being nice to you now,” your grumbled.
Tommy smiled in response, holding you tightly against him and pressing a kiss to your head.
“My little sister, the nurse,” Tommy said softly, smiling broadly.
“Y/N Shelby, the new Florence Nightingale of France,” Arthur announced and there was a murmur of agreement from your family. You just smiled happily, snuggling into your brother for the first time in months.

People Pleasing
My dad stayed mad at me my entire child hood. No running. No bike riding. no sleep overs. I remember many times I would be slapped for getting excited for some reason or another. Prim & proper always. Stay in my room. Don’t be loud or bother anyone. No playing with toys: lay on your bed. If I didn’t clean my plate I didn’t get dinner. My grades in school were never high enough. Stupid. Dumbass. Little Shit. Just to name a few. The only friends I had were the ones who’s parents he was friends with. Forced to have friends I didn’t want. My every movement was tracked and controlled because I could never be trusted. I could never do ANYTHING right.
I don’t believe my mother hated me but I did think that she saw me as an inconvenience. She didn’t stand up for me until I was in my teens. By doing that, he focused more on her. I was so scared I didn’t do anything to help. My mother hid the truth about herself for 16 years of my life. She wanted to see women...... And she hated men. Who could blame her? She was molested as a child by her step-dad and my father was mentally and physically abusive. She felt trapped by society in the 80′s and 90′s.
As an adult I continued trying to be what everyone wanted me to be. I married thinking that it would help financially in their eyes instead of trying to raise my daughter on my own. The marriage lasted about a year only because he moved me to New York and I began to try my hardest to please both families. They contradicted each other so often that I finally just gave up and ended my marriage. In my mothers eyes, all men were bad so I had serious relationships with few men snd the others were just fly by nights. I tried being on my own without my mother but I always seemed to struggle financially. I couldnt afford to divorce either so that I could ever remarry.
A few years ago, I had an epiphany so to say. Im never going to please my family so I have stopped contact with both my parents. I will never live the life my father wants because its way too late for that and my mother will never be happy as long as I choose men. As soon as I started making changes that didnt involve their input, I started to feel more like myself. More comfortable in my life and where I wanted to be. Leaving the state solidified it. No one meddles because they have no clue what Im up to.

My lovely mom
Tldr: It took all day but she was able to have me burst into tears
So
I wake up on my own happy and well rested. Get dressed in a grey basic sweater and christmas leggings, dad mom and i go into the car to go food shopping. Mom's on a random cleaning spree so she HAD to clean the car. I got a letter for jury duty but I can't do it cause technically im in ohio.
So we get to Walmart and mom and dad are already fighting, nothing new. We get inside and its 10:59am, we walk around and mom is being a bitch. I saw cute pajamas for $15 but mom said no, that's fine. I got this honey i wanted because they never seem to have it and its my fav. Mom bitches the entire time how everything I buy goes to waste and says, "YOU will pay for this, not us!" Whatever, it's honey. But she says how entitled I am for getting the honey. We are down every single aisle and mom blocks the aisle every single time and refuses to get out of the way for others. This gets us all pissed, us at her and her at us for asking her to move to the side.
In the middle she decides she wants a sweat suit even though she got one yesterday at Boscov's. Well, she wants this other outfit, appeoximately $35. That takes forever and she yells at me for not being by her side the entire time, I hung around dad instead since he's calm. She finally meets up with us again and we go to the hygiene products. We are waiting for her snd she apparently was yelling for me, in a busy store, to help her find a product but I didn't hear her so now she's fuming. We go to check out and she forces the coupons in my hand saying to give them to the casheir NOW. I tell her, no, at the end. She flips and storms off to the car. Whatever.
We get to the car and because she decided she HAD to clean the car at that exact moment she somehow locked the keys in the car. We have a cart full of cold meat. Bright side, it's cold and sprinkling outside.
She bitches because she wants dad to go inside and get her cigarettes, he gives in and does.
We call for a guy to come help us out and dad has to go take money out, I go back into the store with him because I am freezing! She starts to yell and 'cry' because apparently dad and i are just going to talk bad about her behind her back. She always thinks this, idk why. She tells dad to fuck off and he calls her pathetic. And might i add she's been a bitch to us this entire time, dad has had enough. Mostly with her freaking out over me getting a cheap item while she spends everything else and acts like im the problem.
We get the car unlocked and go to Sam's Club. I see a great blanket but its $15 so mom basically laughs at me for wanting it (i didnt want to buy it, i just said it was super soft and warm). We pass pajamss and clothes and she gets ANOTHER $20 sweatsuit she doesn't need. She does this thing where she will buy new clothes, wear it once (if that) snd throw it in a room never to be worn again. I find these cute pajamas I like but they're $20, mom said I can get it if I pay her back with the only $20 i have to my name at home. I just put them back, whatever. Just pajamas. She was going to buy more but I got her out of the clothes section and we finally went food shopping. I also got some pads but she flipped because the coupon she had wasnt for the brand I use. Whatever.
We check out and go to Martins.
Well she wants to stop by Kmart real quick to run in and grab perfume. She goes in, time passes. I go in and pee, see her nowhere. Ok. She comes out 45 minutes later with perfume she said she didn't even want ($40 in total) and bitches over the line (which wasn't as bad as she said).
We finally get to Martins and mom says there is a Starbucks but I can't get any because I didn't bring my card. Dad gives me $5 to get a drink anyway and I get the drink and she flips out on me the entire time walking around the store.
She makes us stop by Sheetz after to get her a drink then we finally head home.
At home dad and I carry everything in and put it away, I ask mom if anything else needs done before I go upstairs. She says no.
I go up, clean the litter and finally sit down. She then goes into the room yelling about me to dad how I went straight to my room
So i put the clothes in the dryer and pee
Go back upstairs and 5 minutes later shes flipping a fucking shit downstairs screaming because she cant find thos fucking spray she uses. I look everywhere. She left it in the kitchen.
She then points to her mess pile and says, "uh, i think you can throw this away"
I go get moms clothes from the dryer and fold them all and set them on her bed. I then pee and moms talking on the phone, doing dishes in the kitchen, shit she only does when she has pills. She yells she wants the steps vacuumed TONIGHT. I forgot to do them yesterday, that is my bad.
But dads trying to sleep, ill do them tomorrow when she's gone and vacuum my room.
She flips. She said im lazy, i dont do anything in this house. Of course i wont vacuum, i dont do anything. I cant complain about my cousin not cleaning because i dont do shit. And so on. All screaming bloody murder.
"Just go upstairs and go on your phone like you always do! Dont help out like always!"
I go upstairs and now im crying. She just yells up shes done with my shit and i better not be watching tv

Reader in labor HC with Sincerely Three!
I’ve never done HC’s before so I apologize if this is crap but this is my first ever request!!! SO lets get started
Lets start with the meme boy Jared
- ok so jared n u have been together since ur senior year of high school
- you now live together in a cute little apartment
- I feel like jared would be the funny guy in an office job so that’s what he does
- he works in an office and you don’t work right now because YOURE REALLY PREGNANT
- As the days get closer to ur due date, Jared is like ’ hhhh maybe I should stay home with you today babe what if u go into labor AND IM NOT HERE’
- u make him go anyways
- but one day this actually happens n you go into labor while Jared is at work lke 30 minutes away so you call his mom first to have her come get you
- she rushes you to the hospital and once youre there, you finally call Jared and are like ‘ so uh remember how I kept telling you I wasn’t going to go into labor while u were at work? Sike, got u.”
- Jared FREAKS OUT
- ‘waIT WHAT?!’ he screams so loudly his mom can faintly hear it across the room like this boy has a loud voice anyway but holy hell when he yells
- ‘ I TOLD YOU I FUCKING TOLD YOU DIDNT I FUCKING TELL YOU’ Jared screamed and you could basically hear him running out of the office until he gets stopped by the lady at the front desk
- ‘no i have to leave my partner is pushing a CHILD out right now. well Brenda i don’t care if ur son fell and broke his arm, my child is being BIRTHED.’
- even though he was 30 minutes away, he got to u in record time
- he basically kicked the door open and jumped into the room
- he is def doing a super man pose and winks at you
- you threaten to throw him out of the room before hes even sat down
- fast forward a little bit n your contractions have gotten pretty bad and youre laying on your side with your eyes closed, your hand gripping on the side of the bed so hard jared think you might break it
- ‘ babe ur joking to she hulk the bed and I CANNOT AFFORD THAT’
- you flip him off but go back to aggressively squeezing the bed until this contraction passed for a few moments and you were able to release the bed
- BUT LIKE TW MINUTES LATER THEY WERE BACK AND YOU WENT TO REACH FOR JAREDS HAND INSTEAD OF THE HOSPITAL BED AND HE LIKE PULLS HIS HAND BACK FROM YOU
- ‘youll break  my hand are you crazy I NEED THIS HAND TO DEFEAT ZOMBIES’
- you grab his hand anyways and squeeze it even harder than you had been the bed jut out of spite
- ‘OW OW OW YOU BITCH OH GOD MY HAND’
- u look up at him with these deadly eyes and he instantly shuts up and is just like ‘ i love u (y/n) ‘
- a few hours later and it was time to push so u make sure that Jared’s hand is laced with yours and you squeeze it every time
- hes trying to say encouraging words but its more like ‘wow babe - ow - you’re doing so - fucking ow - wonderful - god my hand is going numb - just keep going babe!!!’
- about an hour later the doctor places a baby boy on your stomach and Jared literally fucking cheers
- the doctor has jared cut the chord and after that they take your son off to clean him up n stuff but the whole time jared sits by your side with that big goofy smile on his face as he tells you that he loves you
OK NOW THE LEGS CONNOR MURPHY
- Connor and u were sitting at home when you went into labor bc it was late at night
- ur watching some movie and u glanced up at connor and are like ‘ hhh either i just peed myself or my water just broke’
- the boy literally JUMPS up from where he was sitting and glances at you before he grabs your hands and pulls you up
-he tells you to go out to the ca so you do that while he gathers the bags that you two had spent the time making up in the previous weeks
-he walks outie trying to be as calm as he can but once he gets in the car he just glances over at you and says ‘holy fuck’ before he starts off towards the hospital
-at this point your contractions aren’t close together but when they do hit they fucking hurt like nothing you have ever experienced before so when the first big one hits you groan in pain and COnnor looks over at you all worried and is lik e
- ‘is everything ok, goddammit I’m going as fast as i can without being pulled over but all this fuCKING traffic is making it hard to get FUCKING anywhere.’
- you put your hand on his leg and are just like ‘connor stfu its fine i was having a contraction buts its passed right now so its fine ok’
- he eventually gets you to the hospital and you get into the bed with all the chords attached to your stomach
- i feel like connor has been super nervous for this because hes so scared that hes gonna be a bad dad that when he sits down next to you he just kind of like shuts down and starts to completely doubt himself
- but ofc you know whats going on so you just grab his hand and tell him its all gonna be ok bc obviously neither f you have any real idea how to be a parent yet and youll figure it out together
- he looks at you with those super pretty eyes and u just smile at him
- he loves u so much and he feels so lucky to have someone  like you who makes him feel like this is all going to be ok instead of the way his father had been making him feel by like teling him hes gonna be a bad dad
- a few hours later and its finally time to push and Connor lets you hold his hand the entire time and hes just completely ignoring the fact that youre basically breaking his hand and he just keeps telling u how great youre doing
- ‘youre doing great (y/n), squeeze my hand all you want. Take all the fucking anger out on my hand its fine’
- the doctor puts a little girl on your chest and you tear up as u look at her
- and so does connor because ike ffuck he has a daughter and someone who is going to love him and that he already loves so much?? like he didn’t think he could love anything this much other than u until he saw his daughter
- the doctor has connor cut the chord and he does it really slowly before the little girl is taken away to get cleaned up.
- connor sits down beside of you and he rubs your hair out of your face and kisses your forehead gently
- that boy loves u and his little family so much and he swears that he is going be ten times better than his family ever was to him
OK NOW EVAN
- SO LIKE- Evan and you go over to Heidi’s every Tuesday for taco Tuesday and game night right??
- so you guys are sitting there eating and playing uno when suddenly you have this weird pain in your stomach and it’s not at all like when the baby kick so you just kind of pause and it’s your turn so Heidi and Evan both give you a confused look- ’ uh (y/n) are you ok?’
- you just nod your head and shrug your shoulders b are like ya just a pain but it’s gone now- so you start playing again
- Until the pain comes back and it’s worst that before so you once again take a deep breath and just sit there for a moment and this is when evan starts like getting really nervous and yoy can tell because his starting to pull on the corner of his cards- Heidi asks you if you’re sure you’re ok and you just nod your head
- until ur water breaks and ur just sitting a small puddle of water in your seat-u don’t wanna freak out evan so u ask him to go get you a drink from the kitchen and once he leaves, u whisper to Heidi that u think ur water broke
- AND SHE LIKE SQUEALS- Evan comes back in when he hears the squeal and is like ???? what??? -AND HEIDI IS LIKE “(Y/N) THINKS THEIR WATER BROKE”
-and evan drops the glass of water he had in his hands and it goes everywhere and u snicker- ‘now Evans water has broken’ and Evans eyes go wider than before
- ‘this is uh no times for jokes!! we gotta go!!’ Evan says and you nod your head and get up-Heidi drives u to the hospital and drops you and evan off before she goes back to the your and Evans house to get the bags you had packed
- the doctor gets you all situated and checks you and is like ???- had u waited any longer to come in yoy might have been having the baby at home because you were like 8cm
- ur like ??? I barely feel anything what the fuck-the doctor shrugs and chuckled
-evan is sitting by your bed and he’s obviously an anxious mess
- his leg is bouncing and his face is all red and his fidgeting with the bed sheets- bc like what if the baby doesn’t end up liking him and what if he’s a bad dad and messes up when it comes to taking care of the baby and goodness the boy is just a mess
- but u just smile at him and place hand on his and just whisper calming words to him- Heidi shows up with the bags you had packed and she just smiles at the scene of her son and the person he loves all lovey dovey and about to be parents
-the doctor comes in like 20 minutes later and tells u that it’s time to push so you get all situated-evan grabs your hand and is squeezing it WAY tighter than you’re squeezing his and you can’t help but laugh
-it takes like 3-5 pushes and the doctor puts a little girl on your stomach and asks evan if he wants to cut the chord and he nods-but when the doctor puts the scissors in his hands and they’re shaking like crazy and he takes one step into doing it before
- he passes out-like he drops to the floor and you burst out laughing because you knew he was nervous but not that nervous
-Heidi laughs and helps evan up and he cuts the chord with her help and he just keeps staring at the baby and he just can’t comprehend that he made that- he just loves you and his baby so much snd he’s so excited to be a dad now

Venrohyr's Findings, Part 1
The last time I visited my old friend, the most I expected was the usual that any one of his peers could: A complete disarray and chaos-filled study. Though upon this visit, I found it empty.
Almost down to the dust on the floorboards.
Not even dear Venrohyr would be able to tidy up the place as much as it had been, the vivid memories of him constantly disregarding to clean the place at all quite fresh in my mind.
Hence where this tale begins. A simple recounting of my findings of… Well, Venrohyr’s findings. Suppose he’ll get the credit for this then, eh?
The blunt old man hardly spoke up about his own research, quite skeptical of his colleagues and peers, but for good reason. I have it on record that damnable Duergood has stolen at least two of mine own essays, both on the subject of spell decryption. They say dwarves are stubborn, but never cheaters.
Perhaps this was the biggest concern, that him and his belongings had somehow been disposed of almost entirely, and that no one had said a word on the matter since. I knew better than to inquire the magisters, as they were too preoccupied with more pressing matters, such as the Burning Legion. But that should go without saying.
I brushed back my crimson bangs, the feeling of cool air hitting my sweat-beaded forehead like a godsend. I had sprinted, blinked, and propelled myself with the use of a quick fire stream incantation, to the only other person I could depend on for reliable assistance, Alilar Brightstead.
You see, at this critical interval of time, she and I had a sort of special understanding. Nothing like what most of our peers had, sharing both research and beds, but more along the lines of if something could get us out of doing boring work, such as guarding over the enchanted chicken pen (an incident wrongly pinned on one of the higher-ups), then we would immediately involve the one on such pointless activities.
It was a nice way of bailing each other out, and often ended with one of us passed out in the Legerdemain Lounge and the other trying to find our misplaced Hearthstone Cards while completely wasted. Too bad it wasn’t looking like it was going to be one of those nights. I knocked on the doorframe of the dorm, the door itself missing and the singed hinges looking like they had a tale of their own. “Ali, Arille tells me there’s a new drink that apparently blasted someone out of the window after consumption. Want to-“
Before I could finish, the woman tackled me back from the room, startling me and throwing us both off balance as she stammered for a visit to the bar. “When did she tell you that?!” She brushed aside her strawberry-blonde locks, gazing up at me with two bright grey eyes. A devious grin appeared on her face then as she tapped her chin in amusement. “You been making secret visits to the Lounge without me? Might be I’ll let you run the full shift at the hen post..”
“N-no! None of that, I swear. Look, just follow me. It’s a limited time offer.” And so I led her to Venrohyr’s, to which she uttered the usual rant of how I’ve somehow betrayed her trust as a friend when I revealed my tale was too tall.
“Should’ve known that drink was too good,” she blurted as she crossed her arms under her bust, her small form practically radiating with anger. Pouty as ever.
“But you didn’t. Now, don’t make it out to be more than it ever is.” I rolled my eyes as I shoved open the door to Ven’s place, a cool air rushing past us as I did so. “Something has gone awry with Ven.”
She eyed me as though I’d gone insane. “You do realize you’re talking about the man who thought he could actually cure his baldness by mixing a botanical growth ritual and a clump of centaur fur, right? The man’s only ever -been- awry.”
“Shush. He’s not what he seems. You’d know if you took the time to talk with him. He’s an excellent debater, should you ever feel the need to argue about something. I know it’s something you specialise in.” I felt the thump of the tome on my forearm, Ali’s brows furrowed as I threw her a small grin. “What? Just lightening the mood.”
As I turned to step into the room, my ears perked at the crackle of flint on steel, of the sparks sent flying from the collision, snd the ignition of the explosives hidden within. I quickly grabbed Ali by her shoulder, much to her dismay as she was left compeltely confused as I blinked us away just in time. The explosion shook the dormitory to it’s foundations, rattling the entire complex as the flames lept out of the room and into the hallway, sending debris and ashes in all directions.
The both of us managed to pull ourselves behind a corner where the hallway split, diving to the floor as it was obliterated and seared by the blast. My ears rang for a few long moments before I could hear the yells, the cries for assistance. Ali was already on her feet, the magical shield she cast upon us dissolving. She held a hand to me for assitance, and I took it reluctantly. “Never seen a fire mage so scared of fire,” she spat with a smirk.
I sighed, getting to my feet as I brushed some of the dust off her white cowl. “Now’s not the time for bragging,” I finished, glancing around for any in the nearby vicinity who needed assistance.
One of the magisters stepped through a portal of bright blue rays then, their sleek and fitting armor flawless as their long grey cloak fell to the ground gracefully, their stern gaze turning towards us. A quarterstaff made from black steel phased into existence as they held out a hand, their fingers curling around it tightly as it pointed towards us. A low but feminine voice escaped the full helm. “You two. You need to evacuate to the ground floor immediately. The upper floors are unstable. I’m suprised you survived the blast, honestly.”
Was that a hint of sarcasm in their voice? And such a familiar voice, at that… I rolled my head, feeling my neck pop as I did so. I waved a hand to them nonchalantly, “Sorry, we came to see an old acquaintance of ours and-” But the quarterstaff landed directly in front of my chest, prodding my upper torso as the magisters was now standing just in front of me. Their voice was now filled with daggers as they spoke up once more, clearly annoyed they had to do so. “I said. Evacuate. Immediately.” They seemed to be speaking through gritted teeth.
I let loose a small huff of breath I didn’t realize I was holding in, giving a more sincere nod this time, staying silent as Ali’s eyes darted back and forth between the two of us. The magister gave a dry cough, turning towards the remains of Ven’s study as they left us, and we didn’t decide to linger any longer for that very reason. Down in front of the Violet Citadel, the both of us, alongside countless other students and teachers, gazed up at the aftermath of the attack, murmurs of fear and of betrayal erupting in the chorus of gossip. Whatever Venrohyr found, it clearly was meant to stay hidden.
((Whew, first chapter done! I know this is definitely not canon-friendly for the most part, but I hope you readers can still enjoy it! >_
