#what it says about marginalisation and like. gahh #the way that othello and desdemona’s love stems from this shared desire to be multidimensional PEOPLE in a racist sexist society #and the conflict that comes with assimilation (shout-out to the rsc production with a black iago i think about u always)#and how othello becomes violently misogynistic towards desdemona and des and all other white charas become violently racist towards othello #like……. it’s so cruel and so tragic and i think about it all the time #god do i love othello and desdemona. god do i love them #and othello’s racialised gender troubles…… again the assimilation the inadequacy and insecurity he feels #it’s just so INTERESTING to me. like do i think billy thought about all of this??? certainly not in the terms im using #but it’s THERE and it’s INTERESTING and i THINK ABOUT IT #you know one of my big things with lit is how it serves history. i think othello’s great for that #just sososososososo interesting to me #one thing about billy shakes is he will write tragic het couples and they will make me feel crazy #like love his comedies to death but nothing does it for me like a tragic shakey couple #shut up daisy
