Chapter Six: You've Got To Hide Your Love Away

August, 1957

It had been a month and a half since John had met Paul. They'd hardly seen each other between that time, so around 10:00 pm, John had rang Paul up asking to meet him at the park between their neighborhoods.

Paul walked through the dirty alleyways that was Liverpool. His eyes wide, looking around him. It was unusually cool for an August evening, so he had his leather jacket on. He arrived at the park to see John leaning against the wall of the brick building where the loo was, smoking a cigarette.

John glanced upwards. "Hey Paul."

"Hi John." Paul replied.

"Want a ciggie?" John offered.

"Yeah, I'll take one." Paul said. John handed him a cigarette out of it's box and gave him a lighter.

"So what did you want to see me for?" Paul asked, lighting up his cigarette.

"Well I just thought that because we were becoming closer friends, we should get to know each other more." John said.

"Uh, alright. Full name?" Paul asked.

"John Winston Lennon." John replied.

"Winston?" Paul chuckled. "You mean like Winston Churchill?"

"Yup, exactly." John said with a smirk.

"James Paul McCartney." Paul said shyly.

"Wait, your really name's James?" John asked with a confused look.

"Yeah, my parents gave me the first name of James, but always called me Paul. Not sure why." Paul shrugged.

"Alright, birthday?" John asked.

"June 18th, 1942."

"October 9th, 1940."

"Favorite food?" Paul questioned.

"Cornflakes." John said.

"Pot roast." Paul said.

"Any other questions?" Paul asked.

"Not really." John said. "But I was thinking about something more along the lines of this!"

John suddenly scooped Paul up into his arms, supporting the backs of his knees and his lower back in his arms.

"Oy! John! Put me down!" Paul shouted and struggled to get out of his arms.

"Ah come on Paulie! Let me have my fun!" John teased.

"DON'T CALL ME PAULIEHEHEHE!" Paul's sentence was cut off by a fit of giggles when John began to tickle Paul's sides.

"JOHOHON! KNOCK IT OFFHAHAHA!" Paul screamed as he tried to keep himself composed. But it was no use, as John wouldn't stop. He adventully did. But he hardly gave Paul enough time to catch his breath before John pinned him against the wall with his hands above his head and stuck his other hand under his shirt and scribbled his fingers all over his belly.

"JOHOHON! STOAHAHAHP IHIHIHIT!" Paul yelled through laughter. He tried to turn his face away from John as he felt a blush creeping onto his cheeks.

John did eventually stop, but only for another surprise to come. Out of nowhere, John suddenly planted a kiss onto Paul's plump lips. John shut his eyes, and so did Paul. But only for a second, as they opened widely again and he wiggled out of John's grip to shoved him away.

"Bloody hell John! What was that?" Paul shouted.

"I-I don't know. I just... I think I'm..." John was cut off by Paul.

"Johnny, it's illegal. This can't happen." Paul stuttered.

"Paul, I can't help it." John said with loving eyes. "I'd never had feelings for another guy until I met you. But something about you. I just feel different when I'm around you."

"But John-" Paul was cut off.

"And don't pretend you don't feel the same way!" John yelled. "I've seen the way you look at me and smile. I know you also like me."

Paul let out a shaky breath. "You're right. I do."

"See? I knew it!" John said.

"But it won't work out." Paul said solemnly. "If someone found out, could you imagine what they'd do to us?"

"The hell with them!" John scuffed. "Screw them, all up on their high horses because they have a police badge! They're wrong!"

Paul sighed. "You're half right. They'd be wrong to hate us if they found out, but what could we do? They'd still arrest us."

"Then we'll just have to hide it." John smirked. "During band practice and anything else during the day, we'll appear as just friends. Then we can meet here during the night."

"You think it'll work?" Paul asked.

"People do crazy things for love Paulie." John smiled. Even though it bothered Paul the first time he called him 'Paulie', Paul couldn't help but feel a shy grin tugging at his lips.

John caressed Paul's slightly chubby cheek with his finger tips. Paul sweeped a bit of John's hair out of his eyes and leaned in to kiss him against the wall. That brick wall would forever be a special place for the two of them.
